For a continuous function s\sigma defined on [0,1]×\mathbbT[0,1]\times\mathbb{T}, let \ops\op\sigma stand for the (n+1)×(n+1)(n+1)\times(n+1) matrix whose (j,k)(j,k)-entries are equal to \frac1 2pò02p s( \fracjn,eiq) e-i(j-k)q  dq,        j,k = 0,1,...,n . \displaystyle \frac{1} {2\pi}\int_0^{2\pi} \sigma \left( \frac{j}{n},e^{i\theta}\right) e^{-i(j-k)\theta} \,d\theta, \qquad j,k =0,1,\dots,n~. These matrices can be thought of as variable-coefficient Toeplitz matrices or as the discrete analogue of pseudodifferential operators. Under the assumption that the function s\sigma possesses a logarithm which is sufficiently smooth on [0,1]×\mathbbT[0,1]\times\mathbb{T}, we prove that the asymptotics of the determinants of \ops\op\sigma are given by det[\ops] ~ G[s](n+1)E[s]     \text as   n?¥ , \det \left[\op\sigma\right] \sim G[\sigma]^{(n+1)}E[\sigma] \quad \text{ as \ } n\to\infty~, where G[s]G[\sigma] and E[s]E[\sigma] are explicitly determined constants. This formula is a generalization of the Szegö Limit Theorem. In comparison with the classical theory of Toeplitz determinants some new features appear.  相似文献

We propose an algorithm to sample and mesh a k-submanifold M{\mathcal{M}} of positive reach embedded in \mathbbRd{\mathbb{R}^{d}} . The algorithm first constructs a crude sample of M{\mathcal{M}} . It then refines the sample according to a prescribed parameter e{\varepsilon} , and builds a mesh that approximates M{\mathcal{M}} . Differently from most algorithms that have been developed for meshing surfaces of \mathbbR 3{\mathbb{R} ^3} , the refinement phase does not rely on a subdivision of \mathbbR d{\mathbb{R} ^d} (such as a grid or a triangulation of the sample points) since the size of such scaffoldings depends exponentially on the ambient dimension d. Instead, we only compute local stars consisting of k-dimensional simplices around each sample point. By refining the sample, we can ensure that all stars become coherent leading to a k-dimensional triangulated manifold [^(M)]{\hat{\mathcal{M}}} . The algorithm uses only simple numerical operations. We show that the size of the sample is O(e-k){O(\varepsilon ^{-k})} and that [^(M)]{\hat{\mathcal{M}}} is a good triangulation of M{\mathcal{M}} . More specifically, we show that M{\mathcal{M}} and [^(M)]{\hat{\mathcal{M}}} are isotopic, that their Hausdorff distance is O(e2){O(\varepsilon ^{2})} and that the maximum angle between their tangent bundles is O(e){O(\varepsilon )} . The asymptotic complexity of the algorithm is T(e) = O(e-k2-k){T(\varepsilon) = O(\varepsilon ^{-k^2-k})} (for fixed M, d{\mathcal{M}, d} and k).  相似文献

Abstract. For natural numbers n we inspect all factorizations n = ab of n with aba \le b in \Bbb N\Bbb N and denote by n=an bnn=a_n b_n the most quadratic one, i.e. such that bn - anb_n - a_n is minimal. Then the quotient k(n) : = an/bn\kappa (n) := a_n/b_n is a measure for the quadraticity of n. The best general estimate for k(n)\kappa (n) is of course very poor: 1/n £ k(n) £ 11/n \le \kappa (n)\le 1. But a Theorem of Hall and Tenenbaum [1, p. 29], implies(logn)-d-e £ k(n) £ (logn)-d(\log n)^{-\delta -\varepsilon } \le \kappa (n) \le (\log n)^{-\delta } on average, with d = 1 - (1+log2  2)/log2=0,08607 ?\delta = 1 - (1+\log _2 \,2)/\log 2=0,08607 \ldots and for every e > 0\varepsilon >0. Hence the natural numbers are fairly quadratic.¶k(n)\kappa (n) characterizes a specific optimal factorization of n. A quadraticity measure, which is more global with respect to the prime factorization of n, is k*(n): = ?1 £ ab, ab=n a/b\kappa ^*(n):= \textstyle\sum\limits \limits _{1\le a \le b, ab=n} a/b. We show k*(n) ~ \frac 12\kappa ^*(n) \sim \frac {1}{2} on average, and k*(n)=W(2\frac 12(1-e) log n/log 2n)\kappa ^*(n)=\Omega (2^{\frac {1}{2}(1-\varepsilon ) {\log}\, n/{\log} _2n})for every e > 0\varepsilon>0.  相似文献

We consider the space A(\mathbbT)A(\mathbb{T}) of all continuous functions f on the circle \mathbbT\mathbb{T} such that the sequence of Fourier coefficients [^(f)] = { [^(f)]( k ), k ? \mathbbZ }\hat f = \left\{ {\hat f\left( k \right), k \in \mathbb{Z}} \right\} belongs to l 1(ℤ). The norm on A(\mathbbT)A(\mathbb{T}) is defined by || f ||A(\mathbbT) = || [^(f)] ||l1 (\mathbbZ)\left\| f \right\|_{A(\mathbb{T})} = \left\| {\hat f} \right\|_{l^1 (\mathbb{Z})}. According to the well-known Beurling-Helson theorem, if f:\mathbbT ? \mathbbT\phi :\mathbb{T} \to \mathbb{T} is a continuous mapping such that || einf ||A(\mathbbT) = O(1)\left\| {e^{in\phi } } \right\|_{A(\mathbb{T})} = O(1), n ∈ ℤ then φ is linear. It was conjectured by Kahane that the same conclusion about φ is true under the assumption that || einf ||A(\mathbbT) = o( log| n | )\left\| {e^{in\phi } } \right\|_{A(\mathbb{T})} = o\left( {\log \left| n \right|} \right). We show that if $\left\| {e^{in\phi } } \right\|_{A(\mathbb{T})} = o\left( {\left( {{{\log \log \left| n \right|} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\log \log \left| n \right|} {\log \log \log \left| n \right|}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\log \log \log \left| n \right|}}} \right)^{1/12} } \right)$\left\| {e^{in\phi } } \right\|_{A(\mathbb{T})} = o\left( {\left( {{{\log \log \left| n \right|} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\log \log \left| n \right|} {\log \log \log \left| n \right|}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\log \log \log \left| n \right|}}} \right)^{1/12} } \right), then φ is linear.  相似文献

For a resistance form ${(X, \mathcal{D}(\varepsilon),\varepsilon)}For a resistance form (X, D(e),e){(X, \mathcal{D}(\varepsilon),\varepsilon)} and a point x0 ? X{x_0 \in X} as boundary, on the space X0:=X \{x0}{X_0:=X {\setminus}\{x_0\}} we consider the Dirichlet space Dx0:={f ? DX0 \ D{f,g\in\mathcal{D}_{X_0 {\setminus} D}}. The main result is the equivalence between the local property of the resistance form and the sheaf property for the excessive elements on finely open sets.  相似文献

Let ${\mathbb {F}}Let \mathbb F{\mathbb {F}} a finite field. We show that the universal characteristic factor for the Gowers–Host–Kra uniformity seminorm U k (X) for an ergodic action (Tg)g ? \mathbb Fw{(T_{g})_{{g} \in \mathbb {F}^{\omega}}} of the infinite abelian group \mathbb Fw{\mathbb {F}^{\omega}} on a probability space X = (X, B, m){X = (X, \mathcal {B}, \mu)} is generated by phase polynomials f: X ? S1{\phi : X \to S^{1}} of degree less than C(k) on X, where C(k) depends only on k. In the case where k £ char(\mathbb F){k \leq {\rm char}(\mathbb {F})} we obtain the sharp result C(k) = k. This is a finite field counterpart of an analogous result for \mathbb Z{\mathbb {Z}} by Host and Kra [HK]. In a companion paper [TZ] to this paper, we shall combine this result with a correspondence principle to establish the inverse theorem for the Gowers norm in finite fields in the high characteristic case k £ char(\mathbb F){k \leq {\rm char}(\mathbb {F})} , with a partial result in low characteristic.  相似文献

In this work, motivated by non-ideal mechanical systems, we investigate the following O.D.E. [(x)\dot] = f (x) + eg (x, t) + e2[^(g)] (x, t, e){\dot{x} = f (x) + \varepsilon g (x, t) + \varepsilon^{2}\widehat{g} (x, t, \varepsilon)} , where x ? W ì \mathbbRn{x \in \Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n} , g,[^(g)]{g,\widehat{g}} are T periodic functions of t and there is a 0 ∈ Ω such that f ( a 0) = 0 and f ′( a 0) is a nilpotent matrix. When n = 3 and f (x) = (0, q (x 3) , 0) we get results on existence and stability of periodic orbits. We apply these results in a non ideal mechanical system: the Centrifugal Vibrator. We make a stability analysis of this dynamical system and get a characterization of the Sommerfeld Effect as a bifurcation of periodic orbits.  相似文献

We construct an explicit intertwining operator L{\mathcal L} between the Schr?dinger group eit \frac\triangle2{e^{it \frac\triangle2}} and the geodesic flow on certain Hilbert spaces of symbols on the cotangent bundle T*X Γ of a compact hyperbolic surface X Γ = Γ\D. We also define Γ-invariant eigendistributions of the geodesic flow PSj, k, nj,-nk{PS_{j, k, \nu_j,-\nu_k}} (Patterson-Sullivan distributions) out of pairs of \triangle{\triangle} -eigenfunctions, generalizing the diagonal case j = k treated in Anantharaman and Zelditch (Ann. Henri Poincaré 8(2):361–426, 2007). The operator L{\mathcal L} maps PSj, k, nj,-nk{PS_{j, k, \nu_j,-\nu_k}} to the Wigner distribution WGj,k{W^{\Gamma}_{j,k}} studied in quantum chaos. We define Hilbert spaces HPS{\mathcal H_{PS}} (whose dual is spanned by {PSj, k, nj,-nk{PS_{j, k, \nu_j,-\nu_k}}}), resp. HW{\mathcal H_W} (whose dual is spanned by {WGj,k}{\{W^{\Gamma}_{j,k}\}}), and show that L{\mathcal L} is a unitary isomorphism from HW ? HPS.{\mathcal H_{W} \to \mathcal H_{PS}.}  相似文献

We consider the problem of fitting a subspace of a specified dimension k to a set P of n points in ℝ d . The fit of a subspace F is measured by the L τ norm, that is, it is defined as the τ-root of the sum of the τth powers of the Euclidean distances of the points in P from F, for some τ≥1. Our main result is a randomized algorithm that takes as input P, k, and a parameter 0<ε<1; runs in nd ·2O(\fractk2e log2 \frac ke)nd \cdot2^{O(\frac{\tau k^{2}}{\varepsilon} \log^{2} \frac {k}{\varepsilon})} time, and returns a k-subspace that with probability at least 1/2 has a fit that is at most (1+ε) times that of the optimal k-subspace.  相似文献

We prove an upper bound for the number of representations of a positive integer N as the sum of four kth powers of integers of size at most B, using a new version of the determinant method developed by Heath-Brown, along with recent results by Salberger on the density of integral points on affine surfaces. More generally we consider representations by any integral diagonal form. The upper bound has the form ON(Bc/?k){O_{N}(B^{c/\sqrt{k}})}, whereas earlier versions of the determinant method would produce an exponent for B of order k −1/3 (uniformly in N) in this case. Furthermore, we prove that the number of representations of a positive integer N as a sum of four kth powers of non-negative integers is at most Oe(N1/k+2/k3/2+e){O_{\varepsilon}(N^{1/k+2/k^{3/2}+\varepsilon})} for k ≥ 3, improving upon bounds by Wisdom.  相似文献

A complete Boolean algebra \mathbbB{\mathbb{B}}satisfies property ((h/2p)){(\hbar)}iff each sequence x in \mathbbB{\mathbb{B}}has a subsequence y such that the equality lim sup z n = lim sup y n holds for each subsequence z of y. This property, providing an explicit definition of the a posteriori convergence in complete Boolean algebras with the sequential topology and a characterization of sequential compactness of such spaces, is closely related to the cellularity of Boolean algebras. Here we determine the position of property ((h/2p)){(\hbar)}with respect to the hierarchy of conditions of the form κ-cc. So, answering a question from Kurilić and Pavlović (Ann Pure Appl Logic 148(1–3):49–62, 2007), we show that ${``\mathfrak{h}{\rm -cc}\Rightarrow (\hbar)"}${``\mathfrak{h}{\rm -cc}\Rightarrow (\hbar)"}is not a theorem of ZFC and that there is no cardinal \mathfrakk{\mathfrak{k}}, definable in ZFC, such that ${``\mathfrak{k} {\rm -cc} \Leftrightarrow (\hbar)"}${``\mathfrak{k} {\rm -cc} \Leftrightarrow (\hbar)"}is a theorem of ZFC. Also, we show that the set { k: each k-cc c.B.a. has ((h/2p) ) }{\{ \kappa : {\rm each}\, \kappa{\rm -cc\, c.B.a.\, has}\, (\hbar ) \}}is equal to [0, \mathfrakh){[0, \mathfrak{h})}or [0, \mathfrak h]{[0, {\mathfrak h}]}and that both values are consistent, which, with the known equality {k: each c.B.a. having  ((h/2p) ) has the k-cc } = [\mathfrak s, ¥){{\{\kappa : {\rm each\, c.B.a.\, having }\, (\hbar )\, {\rm has\, the}\, \kappa {\rm -cc } \} =[{\mathfrak s}, \infty )}}completes the picture.  相似文献

We show that for every n \geqq 4, 0 \leqq k \leqq n - 3, p ? (0, 3] n \geqq 4, 0 \leqq k \leqq n - 3, p \in (0, 3] and every origin-symmetric convex body K in \mathbbRn \mathbb{R}^n , the function ||x ||-k2 ||x ||-n+k+pK \parallel x \parallel^{-k}_{2} \parallel x \parallel^{-n+k+p}_{K} represents a positive definite distribution on \mathbbRn \mathbb{R}^n , where ||·||2 \parallel \cdot \parallel_{2} is the Euclidean norm and ||·||K \parallel \cdot \parallel_{K} is the Minkowski functional of K. We apply this fact to prove a result of Busemann-Petty type that the inequalities for the derivatives of order (n - 4) at zero of X-ray functions of two convex bodies imply the inequalities for the volume of average m-dimensional sections of these bodies for all 3 \leqq m \leqq n 3 \leqq m \leqq n . We also prove a sharp lower estimate for the maximal derivative of X-ray functions of the order (n - 4) at zero.  相似文献
