UV spectra of 2-substituted-1-(p-vinylphenyl)cyclopropanes are studied. Based on spectral data, different substituents (—X) are characterized with respect to their effect on the system of conjugated bonds in the molecule      

Electrochemical dissolution of Co<Subscript>3</Subscript>O<Subscript>4</Subscript> in acidic solutions

The cyclic voltammetry method was used to study the regularities of the electrochemical behavior of cobalt cobaltite in an acidic medium. It is shown that cathodic reduction of Co₃O₄ in the studied range of potentials of +1.0 to −0.8 V is a multistage process occurring according to the scheme:      

The binary system PbO - BiVO4

Phase equilibria established in the PbO - BiVO₄ system over the whole component concentration range up to 1000°C have been investigated. A phase diagram has been constructed using DTA and XRD.      

Thermogravimetric study of the dehydration reaction of LiCl·H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O

The dehydration of LiCl·H₂O was studied under inert helium atmosphere by DTA/TG for different heating rates. The dehydration of LiCl·H₂O proceeds through a two step reaction between 99–110 and 160–186°C, respectively. It leads to the formation of LiCl·0.5H₂O as intermediate compound. The proposed mechanism is: and Based on the temperature peak of the DTA signals the activation energies of the two reactions were determined to be 240 kJ mol⁻¹ (step 1) and 137 kJ mol⁻¹ (step 2), respectively.     

Complexation of strontium with triisopropyl ester of dichloromethylene-bis(phosphonic acid) in water and ionic liquids

The complexation of strontium with triisopropyl ester of dichloromethylene-bis(phosphonic acid) (NaL) is examined using ³¹P NMR in water and the hydrophilic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([BMIM][N(CN)₂]):      

Preparation and crystal structure of bis[(dibenzo-18-crown-6)potassium]bis(μ<Subscript>2</Subscript>-chloro)-tetrachlorodicuprate(II)

A new complex compound bis[(dibenzo-18-crown-6)potassium]bis(μ₂-chloro)-tetrachlorodicuprate( II), {[K(Db18c6)]₂Cu₂Cl₆} (I) was prepared and its crystal structure was investigated by XRD analysis. Complex molecule I consist of anion [Cu₂Cl₆]²⁻ located in a crystallographic center of inversion, and two centrosymmetrical to each other complex cations [K(Db18c6)]⁺ of “guest-host” type: the cation K⁺ is located in the cavity of the crown-ligand Db18c6 and is coordinated by all its six O atoms, and also by one Cl atom of anion [Cu₂Cl₆]²⁻. The coordination of this cation K⁺ is enlarged up to hexagonal-bipyramidal due to the formation of unusual coordination bond K⁺ → π(      

ZnO-beta zeolite mediated simple and efficient method for the one-pot synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives at room temperature

A rapid and an efficient one-pot method for the synthesis of quinoxalines catalysed by ZnO-beta zeolite at room temperature is described. This environmentally benign method provides several advantages over methods that are currently employed such as a simple work-up, mild reaction conditions, good to excellent yields, and a process to recover and reuse the catalyst for several cycles with consistent activity.      

Ionic liquid mediated recyclable sulphonimide based organocatalysis for aldol reaction

Sulphonimide based organocatalyst was used to catalyze the aldol reaction in ionic liquid media. On the basis of yield and selectivity the ionic liquid mediated system was found superior in comparison with organic solvents. The added advantages of this ionic liquid mediated organocatalysis are easy recovery of product and the recyclability of the organocatalyst.      

Scolecite as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 2,4,5-triarylimidazoles

Natural scolecite has been found as an effective catalyst for the one-pot synthesis of 2,4,5-triarylimidazole derivatives via a three component reaction using benzil or benzoin, aldehydes and ammonium acetate. This method provides several advantages such as being environmentally benign, reusable, possessing high yields with increased variations of the substituents in the product and preparative simplicity.      

A hydroxyaminophosphane derived from 2-imidazolidone and its unusual structure in solution

A novel hydroxyamino phosphane was synthesised through the reaction of 2-imidazolidinone with ClPPh2 and subsequently reaction of the resulting bisphosphino derivative with the Grignard reagent BrMgC₅H₁₁. The interaction of the pentyl substituent with one of the two phosphino groups and the structure in solution is shown by multinuclear NMR-spectroscopy..      

One step synthesis of Diflunisal using a Pd-diamine complex

Diflunisal and Felbinac, two FDA-approved NSAIDs and other biphenyl carboxylic acids were prepared in one step by a simple and clean Suzuki cross-coupling reaction using an easily synthesized, air and moisture stable, palladium-diamine complex. The yield (93%) for the one-step preparation of Diflunisal is the best reported without using a glovebox and a phoshine-based catalyst.      

Ionic liquid promoted Diels-Alder Reaction between anthrone and maleimides

Ionic liquids (IL) are gaining importance as green solvents. Imidazolium ionic liquid [bmim]⁺[Cl]⁻, an environmentally benign solvent, was found to promote the Diels-Alder reaction between anthrone and maleimides at room temperature with excellent yields. The ionic liquid played a dual role as solvent and catalyst.      

Copper (II) chloride / tetrabutylammonium bromide catalyzed oxidation of 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene and 4,4′-diisopropylbiphenyl

The oxidation processes of 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene and 4,4′-diisopropylbiphenyl with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst, composed of copper(II) chloride and tetrabutylammonium bromide, were investigated. It was found that, in essence, only one isopropyl group undergoes oxidation, and obtained mixtures contained mainly peroxide, alcohol, ketone and only small amounts of hydroperoxide.

Simultaneous displacement of a nitro group during coupling of diazotized <Emphasis Type="Italic">o</Emphasis>-nitroaniline with phenols

During the diazo-coupling reaction, nucleophilic displacement of a nitro group was also observed. This was the main reaction (1→7) when the starting amine bore either a chlorine or methoxy group at the para position (1b–c). The newly prepared compounds (7) might serve as convenient building blocks in synthesis of some heterocycles.      

ZrOCl<Subscript>2</Subscript> · 8H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O: An efficient catalyst for rapid one-pot synthesis of 3-carboxycoumarins under ultrasound irradiation in water

In this report, a rapid, efficient and environmental friendly synthesis of 3-carboxycoumarins under ultrasound irradiation in water media is described. The Knoevenagel condensation of Meldrum’s acid with substituted benzaldehydes in the presence of zirconium oxide chloride (ZrOCl₂·8H₂O) and ultrasonic irradiation in water gave the corresponding 3-carboxycoumarins in good to excellent yields.      

RP-HPLC determination of lipophilicity in series of quinoline derivatives

In the present paper we describe results on the synthesis and lipophilicity determination of a series of biologically active compounds based on their heterocyclic structure. For synthesis of styrylquinoline-based compounds we applied microwave irradiation and solid phase techniques. The correlation between RP-HPLC retention parameter log k (the logarithm of retention factor k) and log P data calculated in various ways is discussed, as well as, the relationships between the lipophilicity and the chemical structure of the studied compounds.      

Analytical methods to differentiate Romanian amber and Baltic amber for archaeological applications

The study aims to establish several definite criteria which will differentiate Romanian amber and Baltic amber to certify the local or Baltic origin of the materials found in archaeological sites on the Romanian territory, by using light microscopy and performing analytical methods, such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-variable angle reflectance and liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection. Experiments especially by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, were applied to a wide range of samples with controlled origin. The methods were optimised and resulted in premises to apply the techniques to analysis of the archaeological material.
