The effect of representing dielectric properties in terms of the complex polarizability c = – i is examined. Loss curves ( and tan ) are shifted towards higher frequencies, revealing the existence of new relaxations and allowing the clarifications of ones already known. We have calculated the shift ratios (at maximum or tan )/ (at maximum or tan ) from the more conventional empirical equations representing the dielectric behavior. Some examples are given.  相似文献

The influence of the volume restriction effect on phase separation in colloidal dispersions consisting of a nonadsorbing polymer has been studied using statistical mechanical cell models and perturbation theories in combination with Monte Carlo experiments. The attractive interparticle potential proposed by Asakura and Oosawa is used to represent the effect of polymer depletion between the particles. The equilibrium properties are determined using the cell model for the solid-like phase (with Monte Carlo simulations for the structure of the solid phase) and a perturbation theory for the liquid-like phase. Both aqueous and nonaqueous dispersions are considered, and the phase separation behavior predicted is compared with available experimental and theoretical results.  相似文献

Two different experimental methods, neutron scattering and nuclear magnetic resonance are used to investigate the random methyl group and segmental rotational jump motions in polydimethylsiloxane. It is shown that nuclear magnetic relaxation and line width experiments are complementary to incoherent neutron scattering fixed-window experiments, the principle of the fixed-window experiments being discussed in somewhat detail. The decomposition rates of potassium persulfate (KPS) in aqueous solutions containing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in the presence of polystyrene or poly(methyl methacrylate) particles as models of emulsion polymerization systems were measured by isotachophoresis. Free SDS molecules dispersed in the monomolecular state had an ability to accelerate the KPS decomposition, but SDS molecules adsorbed onto the polymer particles did not accelerate it.Part CXX of the series of Studies on Suspension and Emulsion  相似文献

Bidimensional miscibility between alpha and beta conformations of polypeptides was investigated at the water-air interface in the 15°–30°C temperature range. The polypeptides were poly--methyl-L-glutamate (PGMG), poly--benzyl-L-glutamate (PGBG) and poly--benzyl-L-aspartate (PBBA). The polypeptide conformations, alpha or beta, were checked by IR spectroscopy using the MIR technique.The spreading isotherms for mixed monolayers alpha-PGMG/alpha-PGBG and beta-PGMG/beta-PBBA showed bidimensional miscibility both for alpha-alpha and beta-beta mixtures.For the alpha-alpha system, attractive interactions among the polypeptide alphahelices were found (Gmix<0) and the driving factor appeared to be the entropic one (packing). Compressibility moduli and surface potential measurements showed a fluidification effect of alpha-PGBG on mixed monolayers. In the case of beta-beta mixed monolayers, ideal behaviour was observed and no fluidification effect detected.Scanning electron micrographs made on collapsed monolayers showed hexagonal structures for alpha-alpha mixtures and no well-defined or characterized features for the beta-beta system.  相似文献

Benzaldehyde-cumene co-oxidation was carried out using biacetyl as a photosensitizer. A co-oxidation mechanism is proposed and the kinetic study allows us to show a higher reactivity towards oxidizable substances of the peroxybenzoyl radicals than that of peroxy-,-dimethylbenzyl radicals, thus explaining the quenching effect of cumene.

Micron-size monodisperse polystyrene/polydivinylbenzene (PS/PDVB) composite particles having highly crosslinked structures and vinyl groups were prepared as follows. First, 1.9 m-size monodisperse PS seed particles produced by dispersion polymerization were dispersed in ethanol/water (70/30, w/w) solution which dissolved divinylbenzene (DVB) monomer, benzoyl peroxide as an initiator and poly(vinyl alcohol) as a stabilizer. The PS seed particles were swollen with a large amount of DVB monomers to 4.3 m in diameter while keeping good monodispersity by the dynamic swelling method, where water was slowly added, continuously, with a micro feeder into the dispersion. Intrinsic viscosity measurements were carried out on poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and poly(vinyl alcohol) in various solvents and solvent mixtures. The values of, [] andk, the latter two being the fundamental terms in the equationC/ sp =1/kC, were utilized for the determination of the unperturbed dimensions in solution. The value and versatility of evolved gas analysis (EGA) are described by the use of selected recent examples. Three particular attributes of EGA methods are stressed. The first, specificity, reveals the frequent necessity of using EGA to substantiate conclusions based upon other thermal analytical techniques e.g. thermogravimetry (TG) or differential thermal analysis (DTA). To this end, the weaknesses of other thermal analytical techniques for the analysis of asbestos is reveladed by EGA. However, because of EGA's specificity it could be used for this purpose. Second, sensitivity, is demonstrated by use of mass spectrographic EGA techniques to study the kinetics of the early stages for the thermal decomposition of InP. This is further illustrated by qualitative assessments of the effects of various films in contact with the InP upon its thermal decomposition. A third advantage of EGA, insensitivity to experimental perturbations arising from an external magnetic field gradient, allows for its use to study the effects of such field gradients with less ambiguity than occurs with TG or DTA. This is shown for studies of the reduction of NiO, Fe2O3, and Co3O4 by H2.
Zusammenfassung Die Bedeutung und die Vielseitigkeit der EGA wird anhand ausgewählter neuerer Beispiele beschreiben. Drei besondere Merkmale der EGA-Methoden werden hervorgehoben. Die erste, die Spezifität, wird der häufigen Notwendigkeit zur Anwendung der EGA gerecht, um auf andere thermische Analysentechniken, z.B. auf TG oder DTA beruhende Schlussfolgerungen zu stützen. Dies wird demonstriert, indem gezeigt wird, dass die EGA die Unzulänglichkeiten anderer thermischer Verfahren zur Analyse von Asbest in Erscheinung treten lässt und infolge ihrer Spezifität für diesen Zweck geeignet ist. Das zweite Merkmal, die Empfindlichkeit, wird durch Anwendung der massenspektrographischen EGA-Technik zur Untersuchung des frühen Stadiums der thermischen Zersetzung von InP demonstriert. Dies wird weiter durch qualitative Beurteilung der Wirkungen von verschiedenen in Kontakt mit dem InP befindlichen Filmen auf dessen thermische Zersetzung illustriert. Ein dritter Vorteil der EGA is deren Unempfindlichkeit gegenüber von äusseren magnetischen Feldgradienten herrührenden experimentellen Störungen, wodurch diese Methode bei der Untersuchung der Wirkungen solcher Feldgradienten eindeutigere Ergebnisse als die TG oder DTA liefert. Dies wird anhand von Untersuchungen der Reduktion von NiO, Fe2O3 und Co3O4 mit H2 gezeigt.

Micron-size monodisperse crosslinked polymer microspheres having chloromethyl groups were prepared by seeded copolymerization of styrene, divinylbenzene, and chloromethylstyrene in the presence of 2.1- monodisperse polystyrene seed particles produced by dispersion polymerization. The modification reaction of chloromethyl groups on the surfaces with polyamines such as triethylenetetramine and ethylenediamine was carried out. From the measurements of potential and the amount of chloride ion released, the introduction of a large number of cationic groups at the surfaces was confirmed.Part CXXXI of the series Studies on suspension and Emulsion.  相似文献

Anomalous polymer particles with a partial protuberance like octopus ocellatus were produced under alkaline conditions by seeded emulsion copolymerization for styrene and butyl acrylate, with styrene-butyl acrylate-methacrylic acid terpolymer emulsion as seed. The mechanism of production of the polymer particles was studied. By transmission electron microscopic observation of the particles at each conversion, it was observed that the anomalous polymer particles were produced by partial growth of each of the individual seed particles throughout polymerization. Ionization of the carboxyl groups and low viscosity in the growing particles during the process of polymerization were important factors for partial growth.Part CIII of the series Studies on Suspension and Emulsion.  相似文献

Radiation-induced dispersion polymerization of 1-methacryloxybenzotriazole (MABt) in ethyl propionate starts as homogeneous mixture and the resulting polymer precipitates as spherical particles. Formation, size, and shape of polymer particles are strongly dependent on the initial monomer concentration. Three regions can be distinguished: formation of deformed particles at concentrations of 15 w/v-% MABt; formation of spherical particles at concentrations from 18 to 35 w/v-% MABt; no precipitation of polymer at concentrations of 40 w/v-% MABt. The spherical particles at 20 w/v-% MABt had a diameter of 0.54 ± 0.31 m for 3 kGy irradiation and 2.93±0.68 m for 30 kGy. The number distribution of the microspheres shows that the spherical particles with small sizes formed at low irradiation dose (low conversion) disappears with increasing irradiation dose because of multi-coating by newly produced polymer.  相似文献

The measurement of the complex dielectric constant ( *=–j) in the dipolar absorption domain of the free water molecule (microwave region) permits us to follow quasi-specifically and precisely the water circulation during the coalescence process of a latex. Weight losses and dielectric constants variations have been simultaneously recorded upon latex drying, in a resonant cavity at 5 and 9 GHz and under controlled atmosphere and temperature. Two different latexes were studied (polybutylacrylate (PBuA) and polystyrene (PS)) from which the glass transition temperature effect was investigated. It is found that the harder the polymer particles, the more clearly evidenced the flocculation and packing points are. This method appears to be quite reliable for discriminating the various steps in the film formation process of latexes.  相似文献

The state of Al3+, Ga3+ and Si4+ in erionites obtained by hydrothermal crystallization from Ga–Al–Si gels has been examined. The results suggest that gallium cations can isomorphously substitute a part of silicon cations in the zeolite framework, to a notable extent in the sites having no aluminium cations in the second coordination sphere of silicon.

Interaction of anion-radicals O 2 with adsorbed forms of benzene and toluene at 293–473 K is shown to be described by an equation corresponding to exponential activation energy distribution of O 2 . It has been established that under the same conditions the decay rate of O 2 is higher in the presence of toluene than with benzene.

The diffusion of six azo and five anthraquinone derivatives through nylon 6, poly(ethylene terephthalate) and secondary cellulose acetate films were studied under high hydrostatic pressures of up to 3000 bar and at temperatures 80–130 °C, by analyzing the diffusion profiles yielded in a stacked multiple film, placed in the solution of the diffusant. It was found that the diffusion coefficient,D, of the diffusant decreased with increasing pressure, giving a linear relationship between InD and the pressure, the slope of which gave the activation volume for the diffusion,V . It was revealedV increased linearly with increasing intrinsic molecular volume of the diffusant,V w , the slopes being different between the azo and the anthraquinone derivatives. The ratio ofV toV w (V /V w ) ranged from 0.13 to 0.93, depending in a sensitive manner on the degree of swelling of the polymer matrix which in turn was varied by the solvent. The overall results could be explained in accordance with the formulation,V f, local +V =V w , whereV f, local represents the free volume contribution. It was proposed thatV w is increased by solvation when the solvent is good for the diffusant.  相似文献

The compressive stress-strain behavior of biaxially oriented polyethylene (PE), obtained by pressing uniaxially oriented samples, is described with the aid of the van der Waals equation of state. Results are discussed in terms of two parameters: the biaxiality (B) and the biaxial draw ratio (), which offer a measure of the strain along the two principal directions and of the average draw ratio on the film plane, respectively. Comparison of experimental and calculated data indicates that after compression up to very large deformations the maximum average strain ( m ), which is proportional to the square root of the chain length of the network, remains constant. This result supports the view that the network of entanglements is not destroyed after compression. Experiments carried out on isotropic melt crystallized PE show the presence of a network having a not very different chain length. Finally, it is shown that the segment length of this network is close to the X-ray long period of the initial structure. This result implies the existence of a high density of entanglements (two entanglements every three adjacent lamellae), which are rejected into the defective layer of the crystals.  相似文献

The chemiadsorption of phenylalkanols onto a porous silica support (d pore 10 nm) viaSi-O-C bonds was studied. The silica support was activated prior to the alcohol adsorption by annealing or by the introduction ofSi-Cl groups. Different reaction conditions were applied, namely time, temperature, solvent and drug-support ratio. The yield of chemiadsorption was dependent on both the reaction conditions and the structure of the alcohols. Long alkyl chains, especially those with an alcohol OH-group positioned in the vicinity of bulky substituents, reduce the yield considerably. Using chlorinated silica, a reasonable yield of chemiadsorption can be obtained even at relatively low reaction temperatures.Dedicated to Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. The capacitance and the dielectric loss tangents of CaCO3 filled polyethylene composites were studied. Composite samples, prepared by polymerizing ethylene on the surfaces of fillers, pre-treated by polymerization catalysts, were compared to normal mechanical mixtures. Dielectric dispersion,, and loss, , proved to be sensitive to heating or vacuum treatment. Investigation of samples under conditions of different relative humidities showed that the dielectric dispersion is due to adsorbed water. Both and increased with decreasing frequency and the ratio of loss and dispersion was nearly constant. Dielectric data measured at different relative humidities could be represented by a single Cole-Cole plot. Samples soaked in water for different periods yielded qualitatively similar but quantitatively different Cole-Cole plots. Composite samples showed higher losses at similar humidities.Possible interpretations in terms of a molecular relaxation model, an interfacial relaxation model, including a charged double layer mechanism, percolation theory and the universal response theory were examined, but none was able to fully explain the observed phenomena.  相似文献
