The electronic and infrared spectra of 2-fluoropyridine-methanol clusters were observed in a supersonic free jet. The structure of hydrogen-bonded clusters of 2-fluoropyridine with methanol was studied on the basis of the molecular orbital calculations. The IR spectra of 2-fluoropyridine-(CH3OH)n(n = 1-3) clusters were observed with a fluorescence-detected infrared depletion (FDIR) technique in the OH and CH stretching vibrational regions. The structures of the clusters are similar to those observed for 2-fluoropyridine-(H2O)n (n = 1-3) clusters. The existence of weak hydrogen bond interaction through aromatic hydrogen was observed in the IR spectra. The theoretical calculation also supports the result. The vibrational frequencies of CH bonds in CH3 group are affected by hydrogen bond formation although these bonds do not directly relate to the hydrogen bond interaction. The B3LYP/6-311 ++G(d,p) calculations reproduce well the vibrational frequency of the hydrogen-bonded OH stretching vibrations. However, the calculated frequency of CH stretching vibration could not reproduce the IR spectra because of anharmonic interaction with closely lying overtone or combination bands for nu3 and nu9 vibrations. The vibrational shift of nu2 vibration is reproduced well with molecular orbital calculations. The calculation also shows that the frequency shift of nu2 vibration is closely related to the CH bond length at the trans position against the OH bond in hydrogen-bonded methanol.  相似文献

Ab initio and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations have been carried out for zinc-water clusters Zn(n)-(H2O)(m) (n = 1-32 and m = 1-3, where n and m are the numbers of zinc atoms and water molecules, respectively) to elucidate the structure and electronic states of the clusters and the interaction of zinc cluster with water molecules. The binding energies of H2O to zinc clusters were small at n = 2-3 (2.3-4.2 kcal mol(-1)), whereas the energy increased significantly in n = 4 (9.0 kcal mol(-1)). Also, the binding nature of H2O was changed at n = 4. The cluster size dependency of the binding energy of H2O accorded well with that of the natural population of electrons in the 4p orbital of the zinc atom. In the larger clusters (n > 20), it was found that the zinc atoms in surface regions of the zinc cluster have a positive charge, whereas those in the interior region have a negative charge with the large electron population in the 4p orbital. The interaction of H2O with the zinc clusters were discussed on the basis of the theoretical results.  相似文献

The vibrational OH stretch spectra have been measured for Na(H2O)n clusters in the size range from n = 8 to 60. The complete size selection is achieved by coupling the UV radiation of a dye laser below the ionization threshold with the tunable IR radiation of an optical parametric oscillator. The spectra are dominated by intensity peaks around 3400 cm(-1) which we attribute to an increased transition dipole moment of delocalized electrons in this type of doped cluster. Aside from the positions of free (3715 cm(-1)) and double donor (3560 cm(-1)) bonds which are known from pure water clusters, specific transitions are observed at 3640 cm(-1) and in the range of the single donor bonds between 3000 and 3200 cm(-1).  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of protonated methanol-water mixed clusters, H (+)(MeOH) 1(H 2O) n ( n = 1-8), were extensively carried out to analyze the hydrogen bond structures of the clusters. Various structural isomers were energy optimized, and their relative energies with zero point energy corrections and temperature dependence of the free energies were examined. Coexistence of different morphological isomers was suggested. Infrared spectra were simulated on the basis of the optimized structures. The infrared spectra were also experimentally measured for n = 3-9 in the OH stretching vibrational region. The observed broad bands in the hydrogen-bonded OH stretch region were assigned in comparison with the simulations. From the DFT calculations, the preferential proton location was also investigated. Clear correlations between the excess proton location and the cluster morphology were found.  相似文献

Infrared spectra of large-sized protonated methanol-water mixed clusters, H(+)(MeOH)(m)(H(2)O)(n) (m=1-4, n=4-22), were measured in the OH stretch region. The free OH stretch bands of the water moiety converged to a single peak due to the three-coordinated sites at the sizes of m+n=21, which is the magic number of the protonated water cluster. This is a spectroscopic signature for the formation of the three-dimensional cage structure in the mixed cluster, and it demonstrates the compatibility of a small number of methanol molecules with water in the hydrogen-bonded cage formation. Density functional theory calculations were carried out to examine the relative stability and structures of selected isomers of the mixed clusters. The calculation results supported the microscopic compatibility of methanol and water in the hydrogen-bonded cage development. The authors also found that in the magic number clusters, the surface protonated sites are energetically favored over their internal counterparts and the excess proton prefers to take the form of H(3)O(+) despite the fact that the proton affinity of methanol is greater than that of water.  相似文献

The hydrogen-bonded clusters of 2-fluoropyridine with water were studied experimentally in a supersonic free jet and analyzed with molecular orbital calculations. The IR spectra of 2-fluoropyridine-(H2O)(n) (n = 1 to 3) clusters were observed with a fluorescence detected infrared depletion (FDIR) technique in the OH and CH stretching vibrational regions. The frequencies of OH stretching vibrations show that water molecules bond to the nitrogen atom of 2-fluoropyridine in the clusters. The hydrogen-bond formation between aromatic CH and O was evidenced in the 1:2 and 1:3 clusters from the experimental and calculated results. The overtone vibrations of the OH bending mode in hydrogen-bonded water molecules appear in the IR spectra, and these frequencies become higher with the increase of the number of water molecules in the clusters. The band structure of the IR spectra in the CH stretching region changes depending on the number of coordinating water molecules.  相似文献

The work presents ab initio results on structure and electronic properties of Br2*-.nH2O(n=1-10) and Br2.nH2O(n=1-8) hydrated clusters to study the effects of an excess electron on the microhydration of the halide dimer. A nonlocal density functional, namely, Becke's half-and-half hybrid exchange-correlation functional is found to perform well on the present systems with a split valence 6-31++G(d,p) basis function. Geometry optimizations for all the clusters are carried out with several initial guess structures and without imposing any symmetry restriction. Br2*-.nH2O clusters prefer to have symmetrical double hydrogen-bonding structures. Results on Br2.nH2O(n>or=2) cluster show that the O atom of one H2O is oriented towards one Br atom and the H atom of another H2O is directed to other Br atom making Br2 to exist as Br+-Br- entity in the cluster. The binding and solvation energies are calculated for the Br2*-.nH2O and Br2.nH2O clusters. Calculations of the vibrational frequencies show that the formation of Br2*- and Br2 water clusters induces significant shifts from the normal modes of isolated water. Excited-state calculations are carried out on Br2*-.nH2O clusters following configuration interaction with single electron excitation procedure and UV-VIS absorption profiles are simulated. There is an excellent agreement between the present theoretical UV-VIS spectra of Br2*-.10H2O cluster and the reported transient optical spectra for Br2*- in aqueous solution.  相似文献

Vibrational predissociation spectra are reported for size-selected NH4+ (H2O)n clusters (n=5-22) in the 2500-3900 cm(-1) region. We concentrate on the sharp free OH stretching bands to deduce the local H-bonding configurations of water molecules on the cluster surface. As in the spectra of the protonated water clusters, the free OH bands in NH4+ (H2O)n evolve from a quartet at small sizes (n<7), to a doublet around n=9, and then to a single peak at the n=20 magic number cluster, before the doublet re-emerges at larger sizes. This spectral simplification at the magic number cluster mirrors that found earlier in the H+(H2O)n clusters. We characterize the likely structures at play for the n=19 and 20 clusters with electronic structure calculations. The most stable form of the n=20 cluster is predicted to have a surface-solvated NH4+ ion that lies considerably lower in energy than isomers with the NH4+ in the interior.  相似文献

We report vibrational predissociation spectra of the (H2O)n- cluster ions in the OH stretching region to determine whether the spectral signature of the electron-binding motif identified in the smaller clusters [Hammer et al. Science 306, 675 (2004)] continues to be important in the intermediate size regime (n = 7-21). This signature consists of a redshifted doublet that dominates the OH stretching region, and has been traced primarily to the excitation of a single water molecule residing in a double H-bond acceptor (AA) binding site, oriented with both of its H atoms pointing toward the excess electron cloud. Strong absorption near the characteristic AA doublet is found to persist in the spectra of the larger clusters, but the pattern evolves into a broadened triplet around n = 11. A single free OH feature associated with dangling hydrogen atoms on the cluster surface is observed to emerge for n > or = 15, in sharp contrast to the multiplet pattern of unbonded OH stretches displayed by the H+(H2O)n clusters throughout the n = 2-29 range. We also explore the vibration-electronic coupling associated with normal-mode displacements of the AA molecule that most strongly interact with the excess electron. Specifically, electronic structure calculations on the hexamer anion indicate that displacement along the -OH2 symmetric stretching mode dramatically distorts the excess electron cloud, thus accounting for the anomalously large oscillator strength of the AA water stretching vibrations. We also discuss these vibronic interactions in the context of a possible relaxation mechanism for the excited electronic states involving the excess electron.  相似文献

Infrared spectroscopy of large-sized protonated methanol clusters, H(+)(MeOH)(n) (n = 4-15), was carried out in the OH stretch region to characterize the development of the hydrogen bond network with the cluster size, n. The band intensity of the free OH stretching mode decreased with n, and the band finally disappeared at n = 7. On the other hand, the broad absorption band due to hydrogen-bonded OH stretches exhibited a remarkable shift with the cluster size, and it finally converged on 3300 cm(-1) for n >/= approximately 10. The size dependence of the infrared spectra was morphologically interpreted in terms of the formation of the bicyclic hydrogen-bonded structure of the clusters.  相似文献

Electronic properties of water clusters (H2O)(n), with n=2, 4, 8, 10, 15, 20, and 30 molecules were investigated by sequential Monte Carlo/density-functional theory (DFT) calculations. DFT calculations were carried out over uncorrelated configurations generated by Monte Carlo simulations of liquid water with a reparametrized exchange-correlation functional that reproduces the experimental information on the electronic properties (first ionization energy and highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital gap) of the water dimer. The dependence of electronic properties on the cluster size (n) shows that the density of states (DOS) of small water clusters (n>10) exhibits the same basic features that are typical of larger aggregates, such as the mixing of the 3a1 and 1b1 valence bands. When long-ranged polarization effects are taken into account by the introduction of embedding charges, the DOS associated with 3a1 orbitals is significantly enhanced. In agreement with valence-band photoelectron spectra of liquid water, the 1b1, 3a1, and 1b2 electron binding energies in water aggregates are redshifted by approximately 1 eV relative to the isolated molecule. By extrapolating the results for larger clusters the threshold energy for photoelectron emission is 9.6+/-0.15 eV (free clusters) and 10.58+/-0.10 eV (embedded clusters). Our results for the electron affinity (V0=-0.17+/-0.05 eV) and adiabatic band gap (E(G,Ad)=6.83+/-0.05 eV) of liquid water are in excellent agreement with recent information from theoretical and experimental works.  相似文献

Photoelectron spectroscopy is combined with ab initio calculations to study the microsolvation of the dicyanamide anion, N(CN)(2)(-). Photoelectron spectra of [N(CN)(2)(-)](H2O)n (n = 0-12) have been measured at room temperature and also at low temperature for n = 0-4. Vibrationally resolved photoelectron spectra are obtained for N(CN)(2)(-), allowing the electron affinity of the N(CN)2 radical to be determined accurately as 4.135 +/- 0.010 eV. The electron binding energies and the spectral width of the hydrated clusters are observed to increase with the number of water molecules. The first five waters are observed to provide significant stabilization to the solute, whereas the stabilization becomes weaker for n > 5. The spectral width, which carries information about the solvent reorganization upon electron detachment in [N(CN)(2)(-)](H2O)n, levels off for n > 6. Theoretical calculations reveal several close-lying isomers for n = 1 and 2 due to the fact that the N(CN)(2)(-) anion possesses three almost equivalent hydration sites. In all the hydrated clusters, the most stable structures consist of a water cluster solvating one end of the N(CN)(2)(-) anion.  相似文献

The structure and energetics of water-ammonia mixed clusters with an excess electron, [(H2O)n(NH3)m]- with m=1, n=2-6 and m=2, n=2, and also the corresponding neutral clusters are investigated in detail by means of ab initio quantum chemical calculations. The authors focus on the localization structure of the excess electron with respect to its surface versus interiorlike states, its binding to ammonia versus water molecules, the spatial and orientational arrangement of solvent molecules around the excess electron, the changes of the overall hydrogen-bonded structure of the clusters as compared to those of the neutral ones and associated dipole moment changes, vertical detachment energies of the anionic clusters, and also the vertical attachment energies of the neutral clusters. It is found that the hydrogen-bonded structure of the anionic clusters are very different from those of the neutral clusters unlike the case of water-ammonia dimer anion, and these changes in structural arrangements lead to drastically different dipole moments of the anionic and the neutral clusters. The spatial distribution of the singly occupied molecular orbital holding the excess electron shows only surface states for the smaller clusters. However, for n=5 and 6, both surface and interiorlike binding states are found to exist for the excess electron. For the surface states, the excess electron can be bound to the dangling hydrogens of either an ammonia or a water molecule with different degrees of stability and vertical detachment energies. The interiorlike states, wherever they exist, are found to have a higher vertical detachment energy than any of the surface states of the same cluster. Also, for interiorlike states, the ammonia molecule with its dangling hydrogens is always found to stay on top or on a far side of the charge density of the excess electron without participating in the hydrogen bond network of the cluster; the intermolecular hydrogen bonds are formed by the water molecules only which add to the overall stability of these anionic clusters.  相似文献

We report vertical detachment energy (VDE) and IR spectra of Br2.-.(H2O)n clusters (n=1-8) based on first principles electronic structure calculations. Cluster structures and IR spectra are calculated at Becke's half-and-half hybrid exchange-correlation functional (BHHLYP) with a triple split valence basis function, 6-311++G(d,p). VDE for the hydrated clusters is calculated based on second order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) theory with the same set of basis function. On full geometry optimization, it is observed that conformers having interwater hydrogen bonding among solvent water molecules are more stable than the structures having double or single hydrogen bonded structures between the anionic solute, Br2.-, and solvent water molecules. Moreover, a conformer having cyclic interwater hydrogen bonded network is predicted to be more stable for each size hydrated cluster. It is also noticed that up to four solvent H2O units can reside around the solute in a cyclic interwater hydrogen bonded network. The excess electron in these hydrated clusters is localized over the solute atoms. Weighted average VDE is calculated for each size (n) cluster based on statistical population of the conformers at 150 K. A linear relationship is obtained for VDE versus (n+3)(-1/3) and bulk VDE of Br2.- aqueous solution is calculated as 10.01 eV at MP2 level of theory. BHHLYP density functional is seen to make a systematic overestimation in VDE values by approximately 0.5 eV compared to MP2 data in all the hydrated clusters. It is observed that hydration increases VDE of bromine dimer anion system by approximately 6.4 eV. Calculated IR spectra show that the formation of Br2.--water clusters induces large shifts from the normal O-H stretching bands of isolated water keeping bending modes rather insensitive. Hydrated clusters, Br2.-.(H2O)n, show characteristic sharp features of O-H stretching bands of water in the small size clusters.  相似文献

In an effort to elucidate their structures, mass-selected Cl--(CH4)n (n = 1-10) clusters are probed using infrared spectroscopy in the CH stretch region (2800-3100 cm(-1)). Accompanying ab initio calculations at the MP2/6-311++G(2df,2p) level for the n = 1-3 clusters suggest that methane molecules prefer to attach to the chloride anion by single linear H-bonds and sit adjacent to one another. These conclusions are supported by the agreement between experimental and calculated vibrational band frequencies and intensities. Infrared spectra in the CH stretch region for Cl--(CH4)n clusters containing up to ten CH4 ligands are remarkably simple, each being dominated by a single narrow peak associated with stretching motion of hydrogen-bonded CH groups. The observations are consistent with cluster structures in which at least ten equivalent methane molecules can be accommodated in the first solvation shell about a chloride anion.  相似文献

Pyridine containing water clusters, H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n), have been studied both experimentally by a quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer and by quantum chemical calculations. In the experiments, H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n) with m = 1-4 and n = 0-80 are observed. For the cluster distributions observed, there are no magic numbers, neither in the abundance spectra, nor in the evaporation spectra from size selected clusters. Experiments with size-selected clusters H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n), with m = 0-3, reacting with D(2)O at a center-of-mass energy of 0.1 eV were also performed. The cross-sections for H/D isotope exchange depend mainly on the number of water molecules in the cluster and not on the number of pyridine molecules. Clusters having only one pyridine molecule undergo D(2)O/H(2)O ligand exchange, while H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n), with m = 2, 3, exhibit significant H/D scrambling. These results are rationalized by quantum chemical calculations (B3LYP and MP2) for H(+)(pyridine)(1)(H(2)O)(n) and H(+)(pyridine)(2)(H(2)O)(n), with n = 1-6. In clusters containing one pyridine, the water molecules form an interconnected network of hydrogen bonds associated with the pyridinium ion via a single hydrogen bond. For clusters containing two pyridines, the two pyridine molecules are completely separated by the water molecules, with each pyridine being positioned diametrically opposite within the cluster. In agreement with experimental observations, these calculations suggest a "see-saw mechanism" for pendular proton transfer between the two pyridines in H(+)(pyridine)(2)(H(2)O)(n) clusters.  相似文献

Infrared multiple photon dissociation spectra for size-selected water cluster anions (H2O)(n)(-), n=15-50, are presented covering the frequency range of 560-1820 cm(-1). The cluster ions are trapped and cooled by collisions with ambient He gas at 20 K, with the goal of defining the cluster temperature better than in previous investigations of these species. Signal is seen in two frequency regions centered around 700 and 1500-1650 cm(-1), corresponding to water librational and bending motions, respectively. The bending feature associated with a double-acceptor water molecule binding to the excess electron is clearly seen up to n=35, but above n=25; this feature begins to blueshift and broadens, suggesting a more delocalized electron binding motif for the larger clusters in which the excess electron interacts with multiple water molecules.  相似文献

Structure, stability, and vibrational IR and Raman spectra of I(2)(*-) x nCO(2) clusters (n = 1-10) are reported based on first-principle electronic structure calculations. Several close-lying minimum energy structures are predicted for these solvated clusters following the quasi Newton-Raphson procedure of geometry optimization. Search strategy based on Monte-Carlo simulated annealing is also applied to find out the global minimum energy structures of these clusters. Successive addition of solvent CO(2) molecules to the negatively charged diatomic solute, I(2)(*-), is fairly symmetrical. Energy parameters of these solvated clusters are calculated following second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) as well as coupled cluster theory with 6-311+G(d) set of basis function (I atom is treated with 6-311G(d) set of basis function). The excess electron in these solvated clusters is observed to be localized mainly over the two I atoms. Average interaction energy between the anionic solute, I(2)(*-), and a solvent CO(2) molecule is approximately 129 meV in I(2)(*-) x nCO(2) clusters, and the average interaction energy between two solvent CO(2) molecules is approximately 85 meV in the case of neutral (CO(2))(n) clusters at MP2 level of theory. IR spectra show similar features in all these solvated clusters, depicting a strong band at approximately 2330 cm(-1) for C-O stretching and a weak band at approximately 650 cm(-1) for CO(2) bending modes. Degeneracy of the bending mode of a free solvent CO(2) unit gets lifted when it interacts with the charged solute I(2)(*-) to form a molecular cluster because of the change in structure of solvent CO(2) units. The vibrational band at the bending region of CO(2) in the Raman spectra of these anionic clusters shows a characteristic feature for the formation of I(2)(*-) x nCO(2) clusters showing a Raman band at approximately 650 cm(-1).  相似文献

The gas-phase structure, stability, spectra, and electron density topography of H(-)W(n) clusters (where n = 1-8) have been calculated using coupled-cluster CCSD(T) and M?ller-Plesset second-order perturbation (MP2) theory combined with complete basis set (CBS) approaches. The performance of various density functional theory (DFT) based methods such as B3LYP, M05-2X, M06, M06-L, and M06-2X using 6-311++G(d,p), and aug-cc-pVXZ (aVXZ, where X = D, T, and Q) basis sets has also been assessed by considering values calculated using CCSD(T)/CBS limit as reference. The performance of the functionals has been ranked based on the mean signed/unsigned error. The comparison of geometrical parameters elicits that the geometrical parameters predicted by B3LYP/aVTZ method are in good agreement with those values obtained at MP2/aVTZ level of theory. Results show that M05-2X functional outperform other functionals in predicting the energetics when compared to CCSD(T)/CBS value. On the other hand, values predicted by M06-2X, and M06 methods, are closer to those values obtained from MP2/CBS approach. It is evident from the calculations that H(-)W(n) (where n = 5-8) clusters adopt several interesting structural motifs such as pyramidal, prism, book, Clessidra, cubic, cage, and bag. The important role played by ion-water (O-H···H(-)) and water-water (O-H···O) interactions in determining the stability of the clusters has also been observed. Analysis of the results indicates that the most stable cluster is made up of minimum number of O-H···H(-) interaction in conjugation with the maximum number of O-H···O interactions. The Bader theory of atoms in molecules (AIM) and natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses has also been carried out to characterize the nature of interactions between hydride ion and water molecules. It can be observed from the vibrational spectra of H(-)W(n) clusters, the stretching frequencies involving ion-water interaction always exhibit larger redshift and intensities than that of water-water (inter solvent) interactions.  相似文献
