An one dimensional model for an open system with two kinds of particles which are driven in opposite directions by an external field is suggested. An exact solution for a steady state is given for the low density regime and it is shown that the model possesses what might be considered a phase transition from a gaseous to a liquid state. The relation to models with a fixed number of particles on a ring is discussed.  相似文献

The steady state response of a damped circular plate transversely or rotationally driven at a diameter is determined by the series-type method. With the reaction force or moment acting along a diameter of a circular plate regarded as an unknown harmonic load, the response of the plate to the load is expressed by the Green function. The force or moment distribution along the diameter is expanded into Fourier series with unknown coefficients, and the simultaneous linear equations for the coefficients are derived by the restraint condition on the diameter. The dynamic response of the plate is determined by solving the equations. The method is applied to circular plates driven by a sinusoidally varying transverse deflection or angular rotation at a diameter, and the steady state response of the plates is studied.  相似文献

We consider the dissipative N two-level atom Dicke system driven by a c.w. laser field. In the steady state, the cooperativity among the atoms via the radiation field produces spin squeezing. Even in the absence of dipole-dipole interaction, the system shows spin squeezing which is attributed to strong nonlinear interaction with the driving field.  相似文献

We investigate the dynamics of clusters made of aggregating particles on a membrane which exchanges particles with a reservoir. Exchanges are driven by chemical reactions which supply energy to the system, leading to the establishment of a non-equilibrium steady state. We predict the distribution of cluster size at steady state. We show in particular that in a regime, that cannot exist at equilibrium, the distribution is bimodal: the membrane is mainly populated of single particles and finite-size clusters. This work is motivated by the observations that have revealed the existence of submicrometric clusters of proteins in biological membranes.  相似文献

We have measured the spectrum of velocity fluctuations in a granular system confined to a vertical plane and driven into a homogeneous, steady state by strong vertical vibration. The distribution of horizontal velocities is not Maxwell-Boltzmann and is given by P(v) = Cexp[-beta(|v|/sigma)(alpha)] where alpha = 1.55+/-0.1 at all frequencies and amplitudes investigated, and also for varying boundary conditions. The deviation from Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics occurs in the absence of spatial clustering and does not result from an inhomogeneous average over regions of varying local density. Surprisingly, P(v) has the same shape over a wide range of densities.  相似文献

We present a novel mechanism for thermalizing a system of particles in equilibrium and nonequilibrium situations, based on specifically modeling energy transfer at the boundaries via a microscopic collision process. We apply our method to the periodic Lorentz gas, where a point particle moves diffusively through an ensemble of hard disks arranged on a triangular lattice. First, collision rules are defined for this system in thermal equilibrium. They determine the velocity of the moving particle such that the system is deterministic, time-reversible, and microcanonical. These collision rules can systematically be adapted to the case where one associates arbitrarily many degrees of freedom to the disk, which here acts as a boundary. Subsequently, the system is investigated in nonequilibrium situations by applying an external field. We show that in the limit where the disk is endowed by infinitely many degrees of freedom it acts as a thermal reservoir yielding a well-defined nonequilibrium steady state. The characteristic properties of this state, as obtained from computer simulations, are finally compared to those of the so-called Gaussian thermostated driven Lorentz gas.  相似文献

The steady state out-of-plane response of a Timoshenko curved beam with internal damping to a sinusoidally varying point force or moment is determined by use of the transfer matrix approach. For this purpose, the equations of out-of-plane vibration of a curved beam are written as a coupled set of the first order differential equations by using the transfer matrix of the beam. Once the matrix has been determined by numerical integration of the equations, the steady state response of the beam is obtained. The method is applied to free-clamped non-uniform beams with circular, elliptical, catenary and parabolical neutral axes driven at the free end; the driving point impedance and force or moment transmissibility are calculated numerically and the effects of the slenderness ratio, varying cross-section and the function expressing the neutral axis on them are studied.  相似文献

The steady state out-of-plane response of an internally damped ring supported by springs in some bays to a sinusoidally varying point force or moment is determined by use of the transfer matrix technique. For this purpose, the equations of out-of-plane vibration of a uniform circular ring based upon the Timoshenko beam theory are written as a coupled set of first order differential equations by using the transfer matrix of the ring. The matrix is obtained analytically and the steady state response of the ring is determined by the product of the matrices in free bays and those in supported bays. In this case, the elastic moduli of the ring and springs with internal damping are assumed to be complex quantities. The method is applied to rings supported against deflection and torsion in some bays of the same length located at equal angular intervals; the driving point impedance, transfer impedance and the distributions of the deflection, angular rotation, force and moment are calculated numerically, and the effects of the number, the stiffness and the length of supporting springs on them are studied.  相似文献

We obtain the exact probability exp[-LF([rho(x)])] of finding a macroscopic density profile rho(x) in the stationary nonequilibrium state of an open driven diffusive system, when the size of the system L-->infinity. F, which plays the role of a nonequilibrium free energy, has a very different structure from that found in the purely diffusive case. As there, F is nonlocal, but the shocks and dynamic phase transitions of the driven system are reflected in nonconvexity of F, in discontinuities in its second derivatives, and in non-Gaussian fluctuations in the steady state.  相似文献

We have found, by varying two parameters, several stationary trajectories in a system consisting in many elastically coupled particles that are placed in a periodic ratchet potential on a ring. The system is assumed to be over-damped and driven by an external potential that is periodic both in space and time. The transport properties of these orbits are quite different and their values are quantified. The symmetries allow us to study the orbits with and without the presence of thermal fluctuations and there is found current inversions due to the addition of white Gaussian noise.  相似文献

We present a theoretical investigation of the multiphoton resonance dynamics in the high-order-harmonic generation(HHG) process driven by a strong driving continuous wave(CW) field along with a weak control harmonic field.The Floquet theorem is employed to provide a nonperturbative and exact treatment of the interaction between a quantum system and the combined laser field.Multiple multiphoton-transition paths for the harmonic emission are coherently summed.The phase information about paths can be extracted via the Fourier transform analysis of the harmonic signals which oscillate as a function of the relative phase between driving and control fields.Phase jumps are observed when sweeping across the resonance by varying the frequency or intensity of the driving field.The phase variation as a function of driving frequency at a fixed intensity and as a function of the intensity at a fixed driving frequency allows us to determine the intensity dependence of the transition energy of quantum systems.  相似文献

We investigate the absorption and dispersion properties of a two-level atom driven by a polychromatic field. The driving field is composed of a strong resonant (carrier) frequency component and a large number of symmetrically detuned sideband fields (modulators). A rapid increase in the absorption at the central frequency and the collapse of the response of the system from multiple frequencies to a single frequency are predicted to occur when the Rabi frequency of the modulating fields is equal to the Rabi frequency of the carrier field. These are manifestations of the undressing or a disentanglement of the atomic and driving field states, that leads to a collapse of the atom to its ground state. Our calculation permits consideration of the question of the undressing of the driven atom by a multiple-modulated field and the predicted spectra offer a method of observing undressing. Moreover, we find that the absorption and dispersion spectra split into multiplets whose structures depend on the Rabi frequency of the modulating fields. The spectral features can jump between different resonance frequencies by changing the Rabi frequency of the modulating fields or their initial phases, which can have potential applications as a quantum frequency filter. We study the steady state resulting from instabilities in crystals driven through a dissipative medium, for instance, a colloidal crystal which is steadily sedimenting through a viscous fluid. The problem involves two coupled fields, the density and the tilt; the latter describes the orientation of the mass tensor with respect to the driving field. We map the problem to a one-dimensional lattice model with two coupled species of spins evolving through conserved dynamics. In the steady state of this model each of the two species shows macroscopic phase separation. This phase separation is robust and survives at all temperatures or noise levels- hence the term strong phase separation. This sort of phase separation can be understood in terms of barriers to remixing which grow with system size and result in a logarithmically slow approach to the steady state. In a particular symmetric limit, it is shown that the condition of detailed balance holds with a Hamiltonian which has infinite-ranged interactions, even though the initial model has only local dynamics. The long-ranged character of the interactions is responsible for phase separation, and for the fact that it persists at all temperatures. Possible experimental tests of the phenomenon are discussed.  相似文献

We report a theoretical study on generation of a spin polarized charge current with arbitrary spin polarization, including the fully-spin-polarized current. In a two-terminal mesoscopic ring device, the Rashba spin-orbit coupling (RSOC) is considered as well as a microwave field applied on one of arms of the ring. It is shown that at zero external bias a spin current can be produced in addition to the usual charge current pumped by the microwave field, which is attributed to the the quantum interference effect of the RSOC induced spin precession phase. By varying the system parameters such as the microwave frequency and the RSOC strength, not only the magnitude but also the direction of the spin current can be efficiently controlled, moreover, the spin-polarization degree of the charge current can readily be tuned by these system parameters in the range [-1,1]. Since all the parameters can be controlled electrically in our study, the proposed device may shed light on the possibility of an all-electrical generation and tuning of a spin-polarized current in the field of the spintronics.  相似文献

The dynamical origin of large-scale flows in systems driven by concentrated Archimedean forces is considered. A two-dimensional model of plumes, such as those observed in thermal convection at large Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers, is introduced. From this model, we deduce the onset of mean flow as an instability of a convective state consisting of parallel vertical flow supported by buoyancy forces. The form of the linear equation governing the instability is derived and two modes of instability are discussed, one of which leads to the onset of steady Eulerian mean flow in the system. We are thus able to link the origin of mean flow precisely to the profiles of the unperturbed plumes. The form of the nonlinear partial differential equation governing the Eulerian mean flow, including nonlinear effects, is derived in one special case. The extension to three dimensions is outlined. In this paper, we present the numerical implementation of a sound field model used in urban acoustics. The mathematical model being based on a classic diffusion equation for the sound energy, a simple finite difference scheme is applied. We give also some finite difference equations for simple boundary conditions, like absorption by a wall and at building edges. The two-dimensional numerical scheme is then compared to analytical solutions of the sound field propagation in a rectangular street with a good agreement, both in the steady state and in the time varying state. Finally it is suggested that the adjustment of usual softwares for heat transfer could be an interesting and low cost way to develop powerful acoustic softwares for the prediction of noise in urban areas.  相似文献

We study the fluctuations of work done and dissipated heat of a Brownian particle in a symmetric double well system. The system is driven by two periodic input signals that rock the potential simultaneously. Confinement in one preferred well can be achieved by modulating the relative phase between the drives. We show that in the presence of pumping the stochastic resonance signal is enhanced when analysed in terms of the average work done on the system per cycle. This is in contrast with the case when pumping is achieved by applying an external static bias, which degrades resonance. We analyse the nature of work and heat fluctuations and show that the steady state fluctuation theorem holds in this system.  相似文献
