The toxic dye pigments, even in small quantities, can damage ecosystems. Removing organic, inorganic, and microbiological contaminants from wastewater via heterogeneous photocatalysis is a promising method. Herein, we report the band structure tuning of ZnO/CuO nanocomposites to enhance photocatalytic activity. The nanocomposites were synthesized by a chemical approach using step-wise implantation of p-type semiconductor CuO to n-type semiconductor ZnO. Various characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and UV spectroscopy were used to investigate the crystal structure, surface morphology, elemental composition and optical properties of the synthesized samples. As the CuO content increased from 10% to 50% in ZnO/CuO nanocomposites, the optical bandgap decreased from 3.36 to 2.14 eV. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated against the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible irradiation. Our study demonstrates a novel p–n junction oxide photocatalyst based on wt. 10% CuO/ZnO with superior photocatalytic activity. Effectively 66.6% increase in degradation rate was achieved for wt. 10% CuO/ZnO nanocomposite compared to pure ZnO nanoparticles.  相似文献

Antibiotic resistance has prompted the search for new agents that can inhibit bacterial growth. We recently reported on the antibiofilm activities of nanosized ZnO and CuO nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized by using sonochemical irradiation. In this study, we examined the antibacterial activity of ZnO and CuO NPs in a powder form and also examined the antibiofilm behavior of teeth surfaces that were coated with ZnO and CuO NPs using sonochemistry. Free ZnO and CuO NPs inhibited biofilm formation of Streptococcus mutans . Furthermore, by using the sonochemical procedure, we were able to coat teeth surfaces that inhibited bacterial colonization.  相似文献

Fiber-shaped cupric oxide (CuO) nanoparticles and flower-shaped ZnO nanoparticles were facilely synthesized by plasma-induced technique directly from copper and zinc electrode pair in water, respectively. The phase composition, morphologies and optical property of nanoparticles have been investigated by energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and UV–vis. The in situ analysis by an optical emission spectroscopy clarified the formation mechanism. Plasma was generated from the discharge between a metal electrode pair in water by a pulse direct current power. CuO and ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via almost the same formation mechanism, which were prepared via the rapid energetic radicals’ bombardment to electrodes’ surface, atom vapour diffusion, plasma expansion, solution medium condensation, and in situ oxygen reaction and further growth. This novel plasma-induced technique will become a potential application in nanomaterials synthesis.  相似文献

In the present investigation, novel poly(amid-imide)/zinc oxide nanocomposites (PAI/ZnO NCs) containing benzoxazole and benzimidazole pendent groups with different amounts of modified zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were successfully prepared via the ex situ method. Poly(amid-imide) (PAI) was prepared by direct polycondensation of 2-[3,5- bis(N-trimellitimidoyl)phenyl]benzoxazole (DCA) with 5-(2-benzimidazole)-1,3-phenylenediamine (DAMI) and provided the polymeric matrix with well-designed groups. The surface of ZnO NPs was functionalized with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS) coupling agent to have a better dispersion and enhancing possible interactions of NPs with functional groups of polymer matrix. The amount of APS bonded to the ZnO surface was determined by thermogravimetric analysis. PAI/ZnO nanocomposites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM analysis showed that the modified ZnO nanoparticles were homogeneously dispersed in polymer matrix. In addition, TGA data indicated an enhancement of thermal stability of the nanocomposite compared with the neat polymer.

At present, inorganic semiconducting materials are the most economical and viable source for the renewable energy industry. The present work deals with the morphological and optical characterization of copper oxide (CuO) and zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films fabricated by layer by layer deposition on nickel oxide (NiO) coated indium tin oxide (ITO) glass by solution processing methods, mainly chemical bath deposition (CBD) and hydrothermal deposition (HTD) processes at room temperature. As a whole, the above inorganic composite materials (NiO/CuO/ZnO) can be applied in photovoltaic cells. An attempt has been made to study structural, morphological and absorption characteristics of NiO/CuO/ZnO heterojunction using state of the art techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV spectroscopy. The energy band gaps of CuO and ZnO have also been calculated and discussed based on the UV spectroscopy measurements.  相似文献

In this Investigation, the CuO nanoparticles (NPs) were treated by vitamin B1 as a biomolecule modifier. The CuO NPs were used as an appropriate filler for fabrication of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposites (NCs). Then, NCs with various ratios (3, 5, and 7wt%) of modified CuO were fabricated under ultrasonic irradiation and their properties were compared with pure PVA. Several techniques were used for characterization of NCs. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis indicated that NPs have proper compatibility with the PVA matrix. Thermal gravimetric analysis results confirmed that NCs displayed higher thermal stability than neat PVA. Also, the addition of the NPs into the PVA matrix improved the optical and mechanical behaviors. Finally, the contact angle measurements verified that the hydrophilicity decreased for different ratios of modified NPs loaded in the polymer matrix. Zinc oxide-based ternary heterostructure ZnO/CuO/Eu(1%, 3%, and 5% of Eu) nanoparticles were effectively produced by employing Vigna unguiculata (cowpea)waste skin extract as fuel in a simple one-pot combustion process. The as-synthesized heterostructure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction studies, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, and High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy techniques. Besides, the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of the as-obtained ternary nanocomposite was evaluated under UV light for the degradation of model organic pollutants including methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine-B (RB), and an effluent sample collected from the textile industrial waste. During this study, the effect of a variety of parameters on the photodegradation activity of the photocatalysts has been thoroughly evaluated, such as light source, catalyst dose, irradiation period, dye concentration, solution pH, etc. Under UV irradiation(100 mins), the ternary ZnO/CuO/Eu photocatalyst demonstrated excellent degradation activity of ~99 and ~93% for MB and RB, respectively, while for the industrial effluent, a decent degradation activity of 42% has been recorded. Further experiments have revealed a pH and concentration-dependent photocatalytic behavior of the heterostructure photocatalyst. Therefore, the results suggest that the heterostructure photocatalyst can be potentially applied for wastewater treatment and other environmental applications.  相似文献

Metal oxide frame works along with carbon materials have been attracting tremendous attention of researches as the potential materials for energy and environmental remediation. In the present work heterostructures of (ZnO/CuO)/rGO ternary nanocomposites were synthesized by solid-state method. The crystalline structure of the nanoparticles was obtained from the XRD analysis. Optical band gap of the ZnO nanoparticles (3.1 eV) is tuned to 2.8 eV in the synthesized (ZnO/CuO)/rGO ternary nanocomposites. Field emission scanning electron microscope images of the (ZnO/CuO)/rGO ternary nanocomposites revealed formation of well-developed flowers like morphology of (ZnO/CuO) nanoparticles on rGO sheets. Photoluminescence spectroscopy analysis of (ZnO/CuO)/rGO ternary nanocomposites show enhancement in the electron-hole pair separation and thereby diminishing electron-hole pairs recombination rates effectively. In the present work, the photocatalytic activity of the ZC3G15 ternary nanocomposites show 99% and 93% of degradation efficiency respectively against RhB dye and 4-chlorophenol for 20 min under visible light irradiation. Thus, the simple solid-state method provides the effective ternary nanocomposites heterostructures light harvesting material for energy and environmental remediation.  相似文献

In the present study copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method with ranolazine as a shape-directing agent. Ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs were characterized by various analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The SEM pattern confirmed the morphology of ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs with well-defined rice-like structures. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the interaction between CuO NPs and ranolazine. The XRD analysis indicated that the structure of ranolazine-functionalized CuO NPs was monoclinic crystalline and the size ranged between 9 and 18 nm with an average particle size of 12 nm. The smaller size range of CuO NPs gave a large surface area that enhanced the efficiency of these catalysts employed for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in the H 2 O system. In homogeneous catalysis, results showed that 50 μL of CuO NPs was required in the presence of NaBH4 for 99% reduction of 4-NP in 240 s. On the other hand, for heterogeneous catalysis, 0.5 mg of CuO NPs was used in the presence of NaBH4 for 99% catalytic reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP in 320 s. The rate of reaction for homogeneous catalysis and heterogeneous catalysis was determined from the plots of In(Ct /C0) of 4-NP versus time (s), which showed good linearity with values of 1.3 × 10 -2 and 8.8 × 10 -3 s -1 . respectively. The high-quality catalytic efficiency, good reusability, nontoxic nature, and low cost are favorable properties of the synthesized CuO NPs for use as efficient catalysts for reduction of 4-AP to 4-NP in both homogeneous and heterogeneous media.  相似文献

ZnO nanoparticles(NPs)with different contents of Ag dopants were obtained by one-step solvothermal method. The crystalline structures of the prepared composites were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction(XRD).The morphology and composition of the samples were studied by means of scanning transmission electron microscopy(TEM)5 X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and electron microscopy(SEM).Photoluminescence(PL)spectra have been used to investigate pure ZnO,Ag-ZnO and Ag-ZnO-PVP NPs to determine the effect of composition on PL properties. It was found that the Ag-ZnO samples showed stronger emissions than pure ZnO.The catalytic activity of samples was measured by the degradation rate of R6G,which exhibited that Ag-ZnO nanocomposite demonstrated enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to the pure ZnO NPs.The possible influence factors to the photocatalytic and antibacterial activities of the sample were explored, including Ag contents and dispersion. It was presented that the photocatalytic activity of Ag-ZnO-PVP was better than that of Ag-ZnO and it showed the highest photocatalytic activity with 7%of Ag content. The Ag-ZnO-PVP can kill the Escherichia coli(E.coli)cells.  相似文献

Polyaniline (PANI)/zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposite was synthesized by in-situ polymerization. X-ray diffraction patterns, UV?Cvisible spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM were used to characterize the composition and structure of the nanocomposite. Nanostructured PANI/ZnO composite was used as photocatalyst in the photodegradation of methylene blue dye molecules in aqueous solution. The photocatalytic activity of PANI/ZnO nanocomposite under UV and visible light irradiation was evaluated and was compared with that of ZnO nanoparticles. ZnO/PANI core?Cshell nanocomposite had greater photocatalytic activity than ZnO nanoparticles and pristine PANI under visible light irradiation. According to these results, application of PANI as a shell on the surface of ZnO nanoparticles causes the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the PANI/ZnO nanocomposite. Also UV?Cvisible spectroscopy studies showed that the absorption peak for PANI/ZnO nanocomposite has a red shift toward visible wavelengths compared with the ZnO nanoparticles and pristine PANI. The effect of different operating conditions on the photocatalytic performance of PANI/ZnO nanocomposite in the photodegradation of methylene blue dye molecules was investigated in a bath experimental setup.  相似文献

Nanostructured ZnO and CuO, and coupled oxides, i.e., ZnCu, Zn2Cu, and ZnCu2, with ZnO:CuO molar ratios of 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2, respectively, were successfully prepared through a simple, one-step, mi-crowave-assisted urea–nitrate combustion synthesis, without the use of organic solvents or surfac-tants. The prepared samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spec-troscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and photo-luminescence spectroscopy. The optical absorption of ZnO extended into the visible region after CuO loading. The photocatalytic activities of ZnO, CuO, and the coupled oxides were evaluated based on photodegradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol under visible-light irradiation. The coupled metal oxide Zn2Cu showed the best photocatalytic activity;this was mainly attributed to the extended photore-sponsive range and the increased charge separation rate in the nanocomposite. The photocatalytic degradation process obeyed pseudo-first-order kinetics. The results suggest that the coupled metal oxide Zn2Cu has potential applications as an efficient catalytic material with high efficiency and recyclability for the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in aqueous solution under visible-light irradiation.  相似文献

In the present study, montmorillonite (MMT) nanoclay and copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (NPs) reinforced polyvinylchloride (PVC) based flexible nanocomposite films were prepared via solvent casting technique. Using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), the structural, morphological and thermal properties of PVC/MMT/CuO nanocomposite films with various loadings of CuO NPs and MMT were investigated. These studies suggested that by the addition of dual nanofillers in the polymer matrix some structural modifications occurred owing to the homogenous dispersion of MMT and CuO NPs within the PVC matrix. The TGA results reveal that the addition of CuO NPs and MMT considerably improved the thermal stability of the nanocomposites. The EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of nanocomposites was examined in the X-band (8–12 GHz) and Ku-band (12–18 GHz) frequency regions. The EMI SE values were found to be −30 dB (X-band) and −35 dB (Ku-band) for nanocomposites containing 0.3 wt% of CuO NPs and 4.7 wt% of MMT respectively while the shielding was found to be absorption dominant. These results emphasize that PVC/MMT/CuO nanocomposite films can be used as a potential EMI shielding material.  相似文献

Zinc oxide@carbon quantum dots (ZnO@CQDs) nanocomposite was prepared via a facile hydrothermal method. Characterization of the obtained samples was carried out by Scanning electron microscopy-EDX(SEM–EDX), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Photoluminescence (PL), and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). These results revealed that we have prepared ZnO@CQDs nanocomposite successfully. Our study revealed that the antibacterial efficiency (against S.aureus and E.coli) under visible light irradiation of as prepared ZnO@CQDs nanocomposite was higher than pure ZnO nanoparticles. The ZnO@CQDs nanocomposite showed excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria with a minimal inhibitory concentration (6–8 mg/mL) against to E.coli and S.aureus. We also tested the light response of ZnO@CQDs under UV–vis light, by calculating its band gap data, after decorated with CQDs, the band gap of the pure ZnO can significantly decreased from 2.57 eV to 2.50 eV. The ZnO decorated by CQDs can both enhance the light absorption and suppress photogenerated electron–hole's recombination which results in the enhancement of antibacterial properties.  相似文献

Fabrication, characterization, and properties of novel poly(benzimidazole‐amide)/functionalized ZnO nanocomposites (PBIA/APS‐ZnO NCs) were investigated. At first, an aromatic PBA containing 3 imidazole units per repeat unit was synthesized by direct polycondensation of 1,3‐bis(5‐carboxylic acid‐2‐benzimidazole)benzene (BCAB) with 5‐(2‐benzimidazole)‐1,3‐phenylenediamine (DAMI) with good yield as a polymeric matrix. The periphery of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) was modified with 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS) to have a better dispersion NPs and enhancing interactions between nanoparticles and PBIA matrix. Different percentages of functionalized NPs (0, 4, 8, and 12 wt.%) were then embedded in PBA matrix through ultrasonic irradiation technique. Fourier transform infrared and thermo‐gravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed that APS was successfully attached on the ZnO NP surface. The obtained NCs were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and TGA. The TGA of the PBIA/APS‐ZnO NCs showed the enhancement in the thermal stability in comparison with the neat PBIA and that this increase is higher when the NP content increases. Scanning electron microscopy analyses of NCs revealed that the dispersion of APS‐ZnO NPs was uniformly done in the PBIA matrix.  相似文献

Green chemistry of nanomaterials from synthesis to diverse biomedical applications is a discussion of town in the current scientific scenario. In this work, Ocimum basilicum leaves extract was utilized as the reducing agent in the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles. Green synthesized ZnO NPs mediated via Ocimum basilicum extract were decorated on the reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheet by the simple one-step method. The prepared green synthesized RGO-ZnO nanocomposites (NCs) were characterized via the X-ray diffractometer. The average crystallite size of ZnO was 25 nm which confirmed the wurtzite hexagonal structure of ZnO. The scanning Electron Microscopy technique confirmed the spherical morphology of particle size of 31 nm. Further, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy confirms the Zn-O bond stretching in the RGO-ZnO NCs. Antioxidant activity of the green synthesized Ocimum basilicum ZnO NPs and RGO-ZnO NCs were performed by DPPH scavenging activities and found the dose-dependent. RGO-ZnO effectively inhibited the α-amylase and α-glucosidase for in vitro antidiabetic activities. Moreover, RGO-ZnO NCs showed the antibacterial potential with increasing concentration against the gram-positive (Cocci) and gram-negative (E. coli) bacterial strains. In Photocatalytic activity, the ZnO NPs and RGO-ZnO NCs were utilized as the catalyst and degraded the Rh-B dye 91.4% and 96.7% under UV–visible light. Overall, RGO-ZnO NCs showed better results in antibacterial, antidiabetic activity as well as photocatalytic activity against the pure ZnO NPs. Hence, RGO-ZnO nanocomposites have demonstrated the opportunity to be an entrancing material for photocatalysis and biological studies.  相似文献

Zirconia based nanocomposites have attracted much research attention in recent years due to their exceptional biomedicinal activities. Rhizome extracts of Corallocarpus epigaeus based ZrO2/CuO–ZnO nanocomposite were green synthesized in a facile synthesis strategy. The nanocomposites were examined with XRD technique for their structural information and FT-IR technique for surface functional group analysis. Electron microscopic images aided to elucidate the CuO and ZnO nanoparticles decorated ZrO2 nanostructures. UV–vis absorption spectroscopic studies of the nanocomposite revealed the characteristic UV absorption of ZrO2 and enhanced visible region absorption for the incorporated nanoparticles. Antibacterial and antifungal studies indicated enhanced activity of nanocomposites over the pristine zirconia nanoparticles. ZrO2/CuO–ZnO nanocomposite had exhibited about 75% of α-amylase inhibition activity, whereas pristine ZrO2 nanoparticles had exhibited only 57% suggesting the worthwhile application in the antidiabetic activity of the nanocomposite.  相似文献

In this work, a high-performance photocatalyst of ZnO/graphene-oxide (ZnO/GO) nanocomposite was synthesized via a facile chemical deposition route and used for the photodegradation of organic dye from water under visible light. The nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller N(2) adsorption-desorption analysis, and UV-Vis diffusion reflectance spectroscopy. The ZnO/GO nanocomposite consisting of flower-like ZnO nanoparticles anchored on graphene-oxide sheets has a high surface area and hierarchical porosity, which is benefit to the adsorption and mass transfer of dye and oxygen species. For the photodegradation of organic dyes under visible light, ZnO/GO nanocomposite exhibited remarkably enhanced photocatalytic efficiency than graphene-oxide sheets and flower-like ZnO particles. Moreover, the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO/GO nanocomposite could be further improved by annealing the product in N(2) atmosphere. The outstanding photocatalytic performance was ascribed to the efficient photosensitized electron injection and repressed charge carriers recombination in the composite with GO as electron collector and transporter, thus leading to continuous generation of reactive oxygen species for the degradation of methylene blue.  相似文献
