Activity of CaO–CaF2 catalysts in the Claus reaction has been studied as a function of catalyst composition and of the time of catalyst operation in the reaction. Opposite effects of low and high fluoride content on the Claus activity have been found. A new type of reducing centers is suggested to be responsible for the increase in the activity observed in the case of fluorine-rich catalysts.

The catalytic activities of aluminas with different chlorine contents for cumene cracking, o-xylene isomerization, n-hexane isomerization and cracking and methylcyclopentane cracking were studied. The catalytic activity and the acidity increase continuously when the chlorine content increases. Coke formation is only noticiable with methylcyclopentane, increasing with the chlorine content of the alumina.

The thermogravimetric decomposition of anilinum octamolybdate has been studied under non-isothermal conditions to elucidate the chemical reactions taking place in the first step of decomposition of the anhydrous compound.The decomposition products were analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS), infrared spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction.The main decomposition product of aniline turned out to be indole, which is different from the major product in the isothermal decomposition at the same temperature, i.e. N-ethyl-aniline.A dehydrocyclization reaction is suggested as the rate-dependent process. This is probably due to the catalytic effect of the octamolybdate anion.
Zusammenfassung Die thermische Zersetzung von Anilinoctamolybdat wurde unter nicht-isothermen Bedingungen thermogravimetrisch untersucht, um die im ersten Zersetzungsschritt der wasserfreien Verbindung verlaufenden chemischen Reaktionen aufzuklären. Die Zersetzungsprodukte wurden mittels Gas-Flüssigkeits-Chromatographie, Gaschromatographie-Massenspektrometrie (GC/MS), Infrarotspektroskopie und Röntgendiffraktometrie analysiert. Als Hauptprodukt der Zersetzung von Anilin wurde Indol gefunden, während bei isothermer Zersetzung bei gleicher Temperatur vorwiegend N-Äthylanilin entsteht. Es wird angenommen, daß beim nicht-isothermen Prozeß eine wahrscheinlich durch das Octamolybdat katalysierte Dehydrocyclisierungsreaktion verläuft.

The acidic properties of a series of TiO2–SiO2 catalysts with different Ti/Si mole ratios have been studied. In an analysis of the possible mechanism and kinetics of a thermal decomposition reaction with the formation of a solid product, the following features were considered: the collective rearrangement character of the transformation; the formation of a product with a different non-equilibrium defectiveness and free energy; the free energy relationship in the series of processes leading to products with different dispersions; the formation of intermediate structures; and the spinodal character of their decomposition. Relationships are presented between the rate of solid product formation, the process temperature, and the surface area and size of the particles.
Zusammenfassung In einer Analyse des möglichen Mechanismus und der Kinetik einer unter Bildung eines festen Produktes verlaufenden thermischen Zersetzungsreaktion werden folgende Besonderheiten erörtert: der kollektive Umordnungscharakter der Umwandlung, die Bildung eines Produktes mit unterschiedlicher Nichtgleichgewichts-Gitterstörung und unterschiedlicher freier Energie, die Beziehung der freien Energie in zu Produkten unterschiedlicher DispersitÄt führenden Prozessen, die Bildung intermediÄrer Strukturen und der spinodalen Charakter ihrer Zersetzung. Beziehungen zwischen der Bildungsgeschwindigkeit des festen Produktes, der Temperatur des Prozesses und der OberflÄchengrö\e und Grö\e der Partikel werden angegeben.

Interaction of anion-radicals O 2 with adsorbed forms of benzene and toluene at 293–473 K is shown to be described by an equation corresponding to exponential activation energy distribution of O 2 . It has been established that under the same conditions the decay rate of O 2 is higher in the presence of toluene than with benzene.

Relative oxidation rate constants of several normal, iso-, cyclo-and methylcycloalkanes have been measured in Cl2–H2O and Cl2–Hg2+–H2O solutions at 343K. The selectivity of C–H bond dissociation in both systems is the same. HOCl is assumed to be the active species for the two systems.

The octahedral-tetrahedral structural transition of Co(py)2Cl2 was studied by high temperature reflectance spectroscopy and dynamic reflectance spectroscopy. The reversibility of the transition by standing at room temperature for 24 hrs was established.
Zusammenfassung Es wurde durch Hochtemperatur-Reflexions-Spektroskopie und dynamische Reflexions-Spektroskopie bewiesen, daß die strukturelle Umwandlung des oktaedrischen Co(py)2Cl2 in die tetraedrische Form nach 24 stündigem Stehen bei Zimmertemperatur reversibel ist.

The influence of neodymium content on the catalytic properties of a HNaY zeolite was investigated using the cracking of n-heptane as model reaction. Neodymium zeolites were found to be more active for cracking and hydrogen transfer reactions than zeolites containing lanthanum, cerium or praseodymium.

H2 and O2 uptakes at 296 K on a Pt/Al2O3 catalyst remained constant during repeated H2–O2 titration cycles conducted in a high vacuum adsorption system. Previously reported variations in these uptakes are attributed to adsorption of contaminants during desorption conditions. Also, it was found that nearly 40% of the H2 adsorbed could be removed by degassing at 296 K for 1 hr.

Uning synchrotron radiation, LIII rhenium absorption spectra have been studied for Re/Al2O3 and Re+Pt/Al2O3 catalysts obtained by impregnation. For individual rhenium compounds a linear dependence between the shift of absorption edge and the state of rhenium oxidation has been found. The absorption spectra of reduced catalysts are significantly broadened as compared with those of individual compounds of the same valency. This points to the presence of rhenium compounds in different oxidation states.

The thermal dehydration and decomposition of copper(II) phthalate monohydrate was studied by isothermal and non-isothermal methods. The decomposition process consisted of three steps: two steps of dehydration and the third of decomposition. The kinetics of isothermal dehydration reactions follow (i) a unimolecular law up to the formation of copper(II) phthalate hemihydrate, and (ii) a phase boundary model giving anhydrous copper(II) phthalate, while the kinetics of isothermal decomposition reaction comply with the Erofeev-Avrami equation, [–ln(1–)]1/n =Kt+C. The energies of activation for the formation of the decomposition products were calculated. The decomposition products were characterized by elemental analysis, photomicrographic observations, infrared and reflectance spectra and X-ray powder diffraction data.
Zusammenfassung Die thermische Dehydratisierung und Zersetzung von Kupfer(II)Phthalat Monohydrat wurde durch isotherme und nichtisotherme Methoden untersucht. Der Zersetzungsvorgang bestand aus drei Stufen: zwei Stufen der Dehydratisierung und die dritte der Zersetzung. Die Kinetik der isothermen Dehydratisierungsreaktionen folgt (i) einem unimolekularen Gesetz bis zur Bildung von Kupfer(II)Phthalat Hemihydrat und (ii) einem Grenzflächen modell, das wasserfreies Kupfer(II)Phthalat ergibt, während die Kinetik der isothermen Zersetzungsreaktion der Erofeev-Avrami Gleichung, [–ln(1–)]1/n =Kt+C genügt. Die Aktivierungsenergien für die Bildung der Zersetzungsprodukte wurden berechnet. Die Zersetzungsprodukte wurden durch Elementaranalyse, mikrophotographische Beobachtungen, Infrarot- und Remissionsspektra sowie Röntgen-Pulverdiffraktionsdaten charakterisiert.

Résumé On a étudié, par des méthodes isothermes et non-isothermes, la déshydratation et la décomposition thermique du phtalate de cuivre(II) monohydraté. Le procèssus de décomposition consiste en trois étapes: deux étapes de déshydratation et la troisième de décomposition. La cinétique des réactions de déshydratation isotherme suit (i) une loi unimoléculaire jusqu'à la formation de phtalate de cuivre(II) hémihydraté, et (ii) un modèle de surfaces limites qui donne du phtalate de cuivre(II) anhydre, tandis que la cinétique de la réaction de décomposition isotherme satisfait l'équation d'Eroféev-Avrami: [–ln(1–)]1/n =Kt+C. On a calculé les énergies d'activation de la formation des produits de décomposition. On a caractérisé les produits de décomposition par analyse élementaire, par des observations micrographiques, des spectres infrarouges et d'émission ainsi que par des données de diffraction sur poudre des rayons X.

The 2,3-biquinolyl dianion, when reacting with aryl- and hetaryl halides, forms arylation products at the 4 position, and treatment of these products with alkyl halides or water yields 1-alkyl-4-aryl-1,4-dihydro-2,3-biquinolyls or 4-aryl-1,4-dihydro-2,3-biquinolyls, respectively.
