We provide a characterization, based on a splitting property, for the upper bounded-Hausdorff convergence of a net of closed sets. Summary In this paper we give a new definition of a probabilistic normed space. This definition, which is based on a characterization of normed spaces by means of a betweenness relation, includes the earlier definition of A. N. erstnev as a special case and leads naturally to the definition of the principal class of probabilistic normed spaces, the Menger spaces.  相似文献

It is shown that two-dimensional convex structures with certain natural properties are join-hull commutative. The main intermediate step is the computation of the so-called exchange number. We also give two examples of three-dimensional convexities which are not join-hull commutative. The second one has certain additional properties showing that the main theorem is sharp in many other respects. These properties are obtained from a study of convex hyperspaces.  相似文献

We endow families of closed subsets of a metric space with uniformities defined by semi-metrics. Such a structure is determined bytypes, which are semi-metrics defined by canonical functions on the metric space, andclasses, which are families of closed subsets.We obtain a classification of convergences on hyperspace by identifying a convergence to a pair (types, classes).The research of this author was done when he was visiting U.F.R.-M.I.M. of University of Provence in 1992.  相似文献

Let X be a metric continuum and 2x (C(X)) denote the hyperspace of closed subsets (subcontinua) of X. The concept of arc-smoothness, which is a special type of contractibility, is investigated in 2x and C(X). Results are obtained about hyperspaces of locally connected continua, about continua for which C(X) and the cone over X are homeomorphic, about Whitney levels in C(X), and about hyperspaces of hereditarily indecomposable continua. Abstract

The Alexandroff (= zero-set) spaces were introduced in [l] as the “completely normal spaces”, and have been studied in a number of more recent papers. In this paper we unify the theory of Wallman realcompactifications via the Alexandroff bases and introduce the realcompactfine Alexandroff spaces as particularly relevant to their investigation. These latter spaces are defined analogously to the A-c uniform spaces which are based on a construction of A.W. Hager [25].  相似文献

Let X be a limit space, Y a topological space. We show that c(X,Y), the limitierung of continuous convergence on LIM(X,Y), is topological whenever X is basic locally compact. For regular Y, local compactness of X is sufficient. In both cases, c(X,Y) coincides with the compact-open topology. If X satisfies a certain regularity condition, the fact that c(X,Y) is topological implies, conversely, that X is (basic) locally compact.The author would like to thank S. A collection F of proper maps into a locally compact Hausdorff space X fixes the topology of X if the only locally compact Hausdorff topology on X which makes each element of F continuous and proper is the given topology. In I2=[-1, 1]×[-1, 1], neither the collection of analytic paths nor the collection of regular twice differentiable paths fixes the topology. However, in I2, both the collection of C arcs and the collection of regular C1 arcs fix the topology. In I2=[?1,1]×[?1,1], the collection of polynomial rays together with any collection of paths does not fix the topology. Various relations between the dimension and the classical invariants of a topological convex structure have been obtained, leading to an equivalence between Helly's and Carathéodory's theorem, and to the closedness of the hull of compact sets in finite-dimensional convexities. It is also shown that the Radon number of an n-dimensional binary convexity is in most cases equal to the Radon number of the n-cube, and a natural condition is presented under which the invariants are equal to dimension plus one.  相似文献

Denote by σ the subspace of Hilbert space {(xi)?l2:xi=0 for all but finitely many i}. Examples of cell-like decompositions of σ are constructed that have decomposition spaces that are not homeomorphic to σ. At one extreme is a cell-like decomposition G of σ produced using ghastly finite dimensional examples such that the decomposition space σ?G contains no embedded 2-cell but (σ?GR is homeomorphic to σ. At the other extreme is a cell-like decomposition G of σ satisfying: (a) the nondegeneracy set NG={g?G:g≠point} consists of countably many arcs (necessarily tame); (b) the nondegeneracy set NG is a closed subset of the decomposition space σ?G; (c) each map f:B2σ?G of a 2-cell into σ?G can be approximated arbitrarily closely by an embedding; (d) σ?G is not homeomorphic to σ but (σ?GR is homeomorphic to σ. The fact that both conditions (a) and (b) can be satisfied (and have (d) hold) is directly attributable to σ’s incompleteness as a topological space.  相似文献

The complete Boolean homomorphisms from the category algebra C(X) of a complete matrix space X to the category algebra C(Y) of a Baire topological space Y are characterized as those σ-homomorphisms which are induced by continuous maps from dense G8-subsets of Y into X. This result is used to deduce a series of related results in topology and measure theory (some of which are well-known). Finally a similar result for the complete Boolean homomorphisms from the category algebra C(X) of a compact Hausdorff space X tothe category algebra C(Y) of a Baire topological space Y is proved.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of a discrepancy function, as an extended real-valued function that assigns to a pair (A,U) of sets a nonnegative extended real number ω(A,U), satisfying specific properties. The pairs (A,U) are certain pairs of sets such that AU, and for fixed A, the function ω takes on arbitrarily small nonnegative values as U varies. We present natural examples of discrepancy functions and show how they can be used to define traditional pseudo-metrics, quasimetrics and metrics on hyperspaces of topological spaces and measure spaces.  相似文献

Motivated by the observation that both pretopologies and preapproach limits can be characterized as those convergence relations which have a unit for a suitable composition, we introduce the category Algu(T;V) of reflexive and unitary lax algebras, for a symmetric monoidal closed lattice V and a Set-monad T=(T,e,m). For T=U the ultrafilter monad, we characterize exponentiable morphisms in Algu(U;V). Further, we give a sufficient condition for an object to be exponentiable in the category Alg(U;V) of reflexive and transitive lax algebras. This specializes to known and new results for pretopological, preapproach and approach spaces.  相似文献
