Aluminium metal foams are a new type of material that can be used in many lightweight applications. One method to improve their mechanical properties is to coat them with a thin layer of nickel by electrodeposition. A voxel representation of this hybrid foam can be obtained in a straightforward way using a CT scanner. The voxel-based geometry can then be processed and modified with respect to the thickness of the nickel layer in order to investigate its influence on the effective properties. By employing the finite cell method (FCM) we are able to automatically convert the voxel-based geometry into a finite cell grid and to directly perform a homogenization procedure. Classical methods to calculate permeability of porous media have been proposed mainly for high density (e.g. granular) materials. These methods present shortcomings in high porosity, i.e. high permeability media (e.g. metallic foams). While for dense materials permeability seems to be a function of bulk properties and occupancy averaged over the volume, for highly porous materials these parameters fail to predict it. Several authors have attacked the problem by solving the Navier-Stokes equations for the pressure and velocity of a liquid flowing through a small domain (Ωs) of aluminium foam and by comparing the numerical results with experimental values (prediction error approx. 9%). In this article, we present calculations for much larger domains (ΩL) using the Finite Difference (FD) method, solving also for the pressure and velocity of a viscous liquid flowing through the Packed Spheres scenario. The ratio VolL)/Vols) is around 103. The comparison of our results with the Packed Spheres example yields a prediction error of 5% for the intrinsic permeability. Additionally, numerical permeability calculations have been performed for Al foam samples. Our geometric modelling of the porous domain stems from 3D X-ray tomography, yielding voxel information, which is particularly appropriate for FD. Ongoing work concerns the reduction in computing times of the FD method, consideration of other materials and fluids, and comparison with experimental data. (© 2013 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Al/Mg compounds produced by hydrostatic extrusion exhibit unique characteristics regarding high strength and low weight, which are required by safety part applications in lightweight constructions. Between the two materials an interface in form of a brittle intermetallic phase consisting of Al2Mg3 and Al12Mg17 arises during the production process. However, a certain plastic deformability of the semi-finished product is essential for further forming processes. Even under multi-axle load during a radial upsetting process, the interface maintains a full material joint although a fragmentation and a new secondary interface between the fragments can be observed. Due to the evaluations of light microscopy images and Eulerian Hencky strain values at the interface, which are obtained with the help of the Digital Image Correlation, a relation between the strain and the boundary layer's appearance seems reasonable. We show uniqueness for overdetermined elliptic problems defined on topological disks Ω with C2 boundary, i.e., positive solutions u to Δu+f(u)=0 in Ω?(M2,g) so that u=0 and ?u?η=cte along ?Ω, η the unit outward normal along ?Ω under the assumption of the existence of a candidate family. To do so, we adapt the Gálvez–Mira generalized Hopf-type Theorem [19] to the realm of overdetermined elliptic problem.When (M2,g) is the standard sphere S2 and f is a C1 function so that f(x)>0 and f(x)xf(x) for any xR+?, we construct such candidate family considering rotationally symmetric solutions. This proves the Berestycki–Caffarelli–Nirenberg conjecture in S2 for this choice of f. More precisely, this shows that if u is a positive solution to Δu+f(u)=0 on a topological disk Ω?S2 with C2 boundary so that u=0 and ?u?η=cte along ?Ω, then Ω must be a geodesic disk and u is rotationally symmetric. In particular, this gives a positive answer to the Schiffer conjecture D (cf. [33], [35]) for the first Dirichlet eigenvalue and classifies simply-connected harmonic domains (cf. ABSTRACT

Elementary linear first and second order differential equations can always be constructed for twice differentiable functions by explicitly including the function's derivatives in the definition of these equations. If the function also obeys a conventional differential equation, information from this equation can be introduced into the elementary equations to give blended linear equations which are here called hybrid equations. Integration theorems are derived for these hybrid equations and several universal integrals are also derived. The paper presents integrals derived with these methods for cylinder functions, associated Legendre functions, and the Gegenbauer, Chebyshev, Hermite, Jacobi and Laguerre orthogonal polynomials. All the results presented have been checked using Mathematica.  相似文献

In the present paper, we obtain new results on universality as applications of hybrid universality and almost-periodicity in its half-plane of absolute convergence. By using these, we show the universality for Euler products of Igusa type, Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-functions and Tornheim-Hurwitz type of double zeta-functions.  相似文献

Given a simple atomic relation algebra ${\mathcal{A}}$ and a finite n ?? 3, we construct effectively an atomic n-dimensional polyadic equality-type algebra ${\mathcal{P}}$ such that for any subsignature L of the signature of ${\mathcal{P}}$ that contains the boolean operations and cylindrifications, the L-reduct of ${\mathcal{P}}$ is completely representable if and only if ${\mathcal{A}}$ is completely representable. If ${\mathcal{A}}$ is finite then so is ${\mathcal{P}}$ . It follows that there is no algorithm to determine whether a finite n-dimensional cylindric algebra, diagonal-free cylindric algebra, polyadic algebra, or polyadic equality algebra is representable (for diagonal-free algebras this was known). We also obtain a new proof that the classes of completely representable n-dimensional algebras of these types are non-elementary, a result that remains true for infinite dimensions if the diagonals are present, and also for infinite-dimensional diagonal-free cylindric algebras.  相似文献

Transparent conducting ZnO: Al thin films with good adhesion and low resistivity have been prepared on organic substrates and Corning 7059 glass substrates by r.f. magnetron-sputtering technique at low substrate temperature (25–210°C). Structural and photoelectric properties of the deposited films are investigated. The deposited films are polycrystalline with hexagonal structure and a preferred orientation with the c-axis perpendicular to the substrate. Only the (002) peak is observed. High quality films with resistivity as low as 1.0 x 10-3Ω·cm and 8.4 x 10-4Ω·cm, the average transmittance over 74% and 85% in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum have been obtained on different substrates.  相似文献

Warp of cross sections of square section bars in torsion is reduced in Cosserat elasticity in comparison with classical elasticity. Warp is observed experimentally to be substantially reduced, by about a factor of four compared with classical elasticity, in an open-cell polymer foam for which Cosserat elastic constants were previously determined. The observed warp in the foam is consistent with a prediction based on Cosserat elasticity. Concentration of strain in the foam is therefore reduced in comparison with classical elasticity.  相似文献

A new approach for solving the generalized assignment problem (GAP) is proposed that combines the exact branch & bound approach with the heuristic strategy of tabu search (TS) to produce a hybrid algorithm for solving GAP. The algorithm described uses commercial software to solve sub-problems generated by the TS guiding strategy. The TS approach makes use of the concept of referent domain optimisation and introduces novel add/drop strategies. In addition, the linear programming relaxation of GAP that forms part of the branch & bound approach is itself helpful in suggesting which variables might take binary values. Computational results on benchmark test instances are presented and compared with results obtained by the standard branch & bound approach and also several other heuristic approaches from the literature. The results show the new algorithm performs competitively against the alternatives and is able to find some new best solutions for several benchmark instances.  相似文献

Summary G.W. Brown, Yu.V. Prokhorov, L. Bondesson and others have developed characterization results for maximal invariant statistics. Such results show that it is possible to construct tests to distinguish between types of distributions. In this paper, these results are proved for a large number of cases that arise in particular in spatial statistics and directional statistics. The class of n-collected distributions, n3, is introduced. It is proved that if a distribution is n-collected then a sample of size n has sufficient information to distinguish the type of the distribution. In other words, the distribution of the maximal invariant characterizes type.  相似文献
