The NEMO-3 detector has been taking data in the Fréjus underground laboratory (LSM, France) since February 2003 and is devoted to the search for neutrinoless double-beta decay (0νββ). After 389 effective days of data collection from February 2003 until September 2004 (Phase I), no evidence for neutrinoless double-beta decay was found from ∼7 kg of 100Mo and ∼1 kg of 82Se. The corresponding limits for the half-lives are T 1/2(0νββ) > 4.6 × 1023 yr for 100Mo and T 1/2(0νββ) > 1.0 × 1023 yr for 82Se (90% C.L.). They lead to the following limits for the effective Majorana neutrino mass: 〈m ν〉 < 0.7–2.8 eV for 100Mo and 〈m ν〉 < 1.8–4.9 eV for 82Se. An intense 37Ar source was produced by the (n, α) reaction on 40Ca by irradiating 330 kg of calcium oxide in the fast neutron breeder reactor at Zarechny, Russia. The 37Ar was released from the solid target by dissolution in acid, collected from this solution, purified, sealed into a small source, and brought to the Baksan Neutrino Observatory, where it was used to irradiate 13 t of gallium metal in the Russian—American solar neutrino experiment SAGE. Ten exposures of the gallium to the source, whose initial strength was ∼ 409 ± 2kCi, were carried out during the period from April to September 2004. The 71Ge produced by the reaction 71Ga(ν e, e )71Ge was extracted, purified, and counted. The measured production rate was 11.0 −0.9 +1.0 (stat.) ±0.6 (syst.) atoms of 71Ge/d, which is 0.79 −0.10 +0.09 of the theoretically calculated production rate. The possible sources of one-photon radiation as a background for the quasi-elastic reaction ν μ + n → μ + p are considered. They are relevant in experiments on determination of oscillation parameters at low neutrino energies (E ν ∼ 1 GeV). The estimation for the cross section of the reaction ν μ + nμ + p + γ is given at E ν lab = 0.7 GeV as 0.65% of the corresponding cross section of quasielastic reaction. Usually it is supposed that Majorana neutrino produced in the superposition state χ L = ν L + (ν L ) c and then follows the neutrinoless double beta decay. But since the standard weak interactions are chiral invariant then neutrino at production has definite helicity (ν L and (ν L ) c have opposite spirality). Then these neutrinos are separately produced and their superposition state cannot appear. Thus we see that for unsuitable helicity the neutrinoless double β decay is not possible even if it is supposed that neutrino is a Majorana particle (i.e. there is not a lepton number which is conserved). Also transition of Majorana neutrino ν L into antineutrino (ν L ) c at their oscillations is forbidden since helicity in vacuum holds. Transition Majora neutrino ν L into (ν R ) c (i.e., ν L → (ν R ) c ) at oscillations is unobserved since it is supposed that mass of (ν R ) c is very big. If neutrino is a Dirac particle there can be transition of ν L neutrino into (sterile) antineutrino $ \bar v_R $ \bar v_R (i.e., ν L → $ \bar v_R $ \bar v_R ) at neutrino oscillations if there takes place double violation of lepton number. It is necessary also to remark that introducing of a Majorana neutrino implies violation of global and local gauge invariance in the standard weak interactions.  相似文献

The present status of the Baikal Neutrino Experiment and the present results of a search for upward going atmospheric neutrinos, WIMPs, and magnetic monopoles obtained with the NT-200 detector are reviewed. The results of a search for very high-energy neutrinos are presented as well. An upper limit on the ν e e τ neutrino diffuse flux of E 2Φ(E)<1.3×10−6 cm−2 s−1 sr−1 GeV within a neutrino energy range of 104–107 GeV is obtained, assumingan E −2 behavior of the neutrino spectrum and a flavor ratio ν e π τ =1:1:1. The results of the search for ν μ ν e oscillations in the NOMAD experiment at CERN are presented. The experiment looked for the appearance of ν e in a predominantly ν μ wideband neutrino beam at the CERN SPS. No evidence for oscillations was found. The 90% confidence limits obtained are Δm 2<0.4 eV2 for maximal mixing and sin2(2θ)<1.4×10−3 for large Δm 2. This result excludes the LSND allowed region of oscillation parameters with Δm 2≳10 eV2. CUORICINO is an array of 62 TeO2 bolometers with a total mass of 40.7 kg (11.2 kg of 130Te), operated at about 10 mK to search for ββ(0ν) of 130Te. The detectors are organized as a 14-story tower and intended as a slightly modified version of one of the 19 towers of the CUORE project, a proposed tightly packed array of 988 TeO2 bolometers (741 kg of total mass of TeO2) for ultralow-background searches on neutrinoless double-beta decay, cold dark matter, solar axions, and rare nuclear decays. Started in April 2003 at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS), CUORICINO data taking was stopped in November 2003 to repair the readout wiring system of the 62 bolometers. Restarted in spring 2004, CUORICINO is presently the most sensitive running experiment on neutrinoless double-beta decay. No evidence for ββ(0ν) decay has been found so far and a new lower limit, T 1 2/0ν ≥ 1.8 × 1024 yr (90% C.L.), is set, corresponding to 〈m ν〉 ≤ 0.2–1.1 eV, depending on the theoretical nuclear matrix elements used in the analysis. Detector performance, operational procedures, and background analysis results are reviewed. The expected performance and sensitivity of CUORE is also discussed. We have obtained IR absorption spectra of a C2F6 gas and a C2F6 cryosolution in Xe (T = 163 K) in the fundamental and overtone ranges. We have interpreted 28 bands of 12C12CF6 and three bands of 13C12CF6. In the spectral ranges that correspond to vibrations that are combinations with ν1, ν7, and ν5, we observe multiplets, which we attribute to interactions of the type of Fermi resonances between the states ν1(A 1g ) ∼ ν6(A 1g ), ν7(E g ) ∼ ν6 + ν11(E g ) ∼ 2ν8(E g ), ν5(A 2u ) ∼ ν8 + ν 11(A 2u ). We reveal an anomalous intensity distribution in the spectrum of an asymmetric isotopologue. For the basic and isotopic configurations of perfluoroethane, we calculate the coefficients of shapes of vibrations and the intensities of absorption bands. We reveal that the behavior of the groups 12CF3 and 13CF3 is indifferent to the excitation of doubly degenerate stretching vibrations ν7(E g ) and ν10(Eu).  相似文献

Neutrinoless double-beta decay (ββ(0ν)) is the most sensitive process in the search for leptonic number violation and its discovery would prove that the neutrino is a Majorana particle. The present status of double-beta-decay experiments (including the search for 2β +, ECβ +, and ECEC processes) are reviewed. The results of the most sensitive experiments are discussed. Average and recommended half-life values for two-neutrino double-beta decay are presented. Conservative upper limits on effective Majorana neutrino mass and the coupling constant of the Majoron to the neutrino are established as 〈m ν 〉 < 0.75 eV and 〈g ee 〉 < 1.9 × 10−4, respectively. Proposals for future double-betadecay experiments with a sensitivity for the 〈m ν 〉 at the level of 0.01–0.1 eV are considered.  相似文献

The MOON (Majorana/Mo Observatory Of Neutrinos) project aims at studies of the Majorana nature of the neutrino (ν) and the ν-mass spectrum by spectroscopic experiments of neutrino-less double beta decays (0νββ) with the ν-mass sensitivity of 〈m ν m 〉 = 100−30 meV. The solid scintillator option of the MOON detector is a super ensemble of multi-layer modules, each being composed by PL scintillator plates and position-sensitive detector planes with good overall energy resolution of σ ≈ 2% at the Q ββ ≈ 3 MeV. Thin ββ source films are interleaved between the detector planes. High localization of the two β tracks enables one to select true signals and reject BG ones. The multi-layer structure of the detector makes it realistic to build a compact ton-scale detector. MOON with detector ≠ ββ source is used for studying 0νββ decays from 100Mo, 82Se and other ββ isotopes with large Q ββ . Real-time exclusive measurements of low energy solar neutrinos can be made by observing inverse β rays from solar-ν captures of 100Mo in delayed coincidence with the subsequent β decay of 100Tc.  相似文献

A new bound of the mixing angle between charged gauge bosons (the standard-model W and the bilepton Y) in the economical 3-3-1 model is given. Possible contributions of the charged bileptons to the neutrinoless double beta ((ββ)) decay are discussed. We show that the (ββ) decay in this model is due to both the Majorana 〈M ν L and Dirac 〈M ν D neutrino masses. If the mixing angle is in the range of the ratio of neutrino masses 〈M ν L /〈M ν D, the Majorana and Dirac masses are comparable to each other and both may give the main contribution to the decay. A search for 2β decay of 136Xe with two high-pressure copper proportional counters was carried out in the Baksan Neutrino Observatory. The experiment is based on comparison of spectra measured with natural and enriched xenon. No evidence was found for 2β(2ν) and 2β(0ν) decay. The decay half-life limit based on data measured for 8000 h is T 1/2 ≥ 8.5 × 1021 yr for 2ν mode and T 1/2 ≥ 3.1 × 1023 yr for 0ν mode (90% C.L.). Neutrino-less double beta decays (0νββ) are sensitive and realistic probes for studying the Majorana nature of neutrinos (ν), the ν-mass spectrum, the absolute ν-mass scale, the Majorana CP phases and other fundamental properties of neutrinos and weak interactions. Current 0νββ experiments, which use detectors with the mass sensitivity of the order of 300 meV, study the ν-mass in that mass region. Future experiments with higher sensitivities of the orders of 100meV and 30 meV, using different nuclei and methods (calorimetric, spectroscopic), are indispensable for establishing 0νββ in the quasi degenerate and the inverted hierarchy mass regions. R&D for ultra-high sensitivity detectors are encouraged for studying the normal hierarchy mass region. Theoretical and experimental studies for evaluating nuclear matrix elements are important for extracting the sensible ν-mass from the 0νββ rate. Charge exchange reactions by means of nuclear, electromagnetic and ν probes provide valuable data which are used to evaluate the nuclear matrix elenments. International collaborations for 0νββ experiments and for the matrix elements are crucial for next generation 0νββ studies.  相似文献

We present a study of the LHC sensitivity to the W boson mass based on simulation studies. We find that both experimental and phenomenological sources of systematic uncertainties can be strongly constrained with Z measurements: the lineshape, dσ Z /dm, is robustly predicted, and its analysis provides an accurate measurement of the detector resolution and absolute scale, while the differential cross-section analysis, d2 σ Z /dydp T , absorbs the strong interaction uncertainties. A sensitivity δ m W ∼7 MeV for each decay channel (We ν, Wμ ν), and for an integrated luminosity of 10 fb−1, appears as a reasonable goal.  相似文献

The contribution of impurity fluorescence was determined in the water Raman spectra excited by the second harmonic (λ = 532 nm) of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. Water samples prepared by different techniques (tap water (undistilled), distilled water, Milli-Q water, water for injections, and water subjected to cavitation treatment) were investigated. The Raman (bands at ν 2 ∼ 1550 cm−1 and ν 3 ∼ 3400 cm−1) and fluorescence (Stokes shift 2500 cm−1) signals were separated spectrally and according to the differences in the emission kinetics. It was established that all investigated samples, including distilled and specially purified water for injections, exhibit afterglow. The highest sensitivity to the presence of impurities was revealed near ∼ 2500 cm−1. The least contribution to the fluorescence signal was found in the water for injections.  相似文献

The structure of nuclear transition matrix elements (NTMEs) required for the study of neutrinoless double-β decay within light Majorana neutrino mass mechanism is disassembled in the PHFB model. The NTMEs are calculated using a set of HFB intrinsic wave functions, the reliability of which has been previously established by obtaining an overall agreement between the theoretically calculated spectroscopic properties and the available experimental data. Presently, we study the role of short-range correlations, radial evolution of NTMEs and deformation effects due to quadrupolar correlations. In addition, limits on effective light neutrino mass 〈m ν 〉 are extracted from the observed limits on half-lives T 12/0ν of neutrinoless double-β decay.  相似文献

Room temperature operating n-MOSFETs (n-type metal-oxide silicon field effect transistors) used for registration of sub-THz (sub-terahertz) radiation in the frequency range ν = 53−145 GHz are considered. n-MOSFETs were manufactured by 1-μm Si CMOS technology applied to epitaxial Si-layers (d ≈15 μm) deposited on thick Si substrates (d = 640 μm). It was shown that for transistors with the channel width to length ratio W/L = 20/3 μm without any special antennas used for radiation input, the noise equivalent power (NEP) for radiation frequency ν ≈76 GHz can reach NEP ∼6×10−10 W/Hz1/2. With estimated frequency dependent antenna effective area Sest for contact wires considered as antennas, the estimated possible noise equivalent power NEPpos for n-MOSFET structures themselves can be from ∼15 to ∼103 times better in the specral range of ν ∼55–78 GHz reaching NEPpos ≈10−12 W/Hz1/2.  相似文献

In the framework of a left–right model containing mirror fermions with gauge group SU(3) C ⊗SU(2) L ⊗SU(2) R ⊗U(1) Y, we estimate the neutrino masses, which are found to be consistent with their experimental bounds and hierarchy. We evaluate the decay rates of the Lepton Flavor Violation (LFV) processes μ, τμγ and τ. We obtain upper limits for the flavor-changing branching ratios in agreement with their present experimental bounds. We also estimate the decay rates of heavy Majorana neutrinos in the channels NW ± l , N l and N l , which are roughly equal for large values of the heavy neutrino mass. Starting from the most general Majorana neutrino mass matrix, the smallness of active neutrino masses turns out from the interplay of the hierarchy of the involved scales and the double application of seesaw mechanism. An appropriate parameterization on the structure of the neutrino mass matrix imposing a symmetric mixing of electron neutrino with muon and tau neutrinos leads to tri-bimaximal mixing matrix for light neutrinos.  相似文献
