We discuss which groups can be realized as the fundamental groups of compact Hausdorff spaces. In particular, we prove that the claim ``every group can be realized as the fundamental group of a compact Hausdorff space' is consistent with the Zermelo-Fraenkel-Choice set theory.

The permutizer of a subgroup H in a group G is defined as the subgroup generated by all cyclic subgroups of G that permute with H. Call H permuteral in G if the permutizer of H in G coincides with G; H is called strongly permuteral in G if the permutizer of H in U coincides with U for every subgroup U of G containing H. We study the finite groups with given systems of permuteral and strongly permuteral subgroups and find some new characterizations of w-supersoluble and supersoluble groups. 相似文献

Let X be a compact abelian group. A subgroup H of X is called characterized if there exists a sequence u=(un) of characters of X such that H=su(X), where su(X):={x∈X:(un,x)→0 in T}. Every characterized subgroup is an Fσδ-subgroup of X . We show that every Gδ-subgroup of X is characterized. On the other hand, X has non-characterized Fσ-subgroups. 相似文献

AbstractIn this paper, we introduce the concept of sse-embedded subgroups of finite groups and present some new characterizations of solubility of finite groups using the sse-embedding property of subgroups. In this paper, it is proved that the class of all finite supersoluble groups with elementary abelian Sylow subgroups is just the class of all finite groups for which every minimal subgroup is complemented.
