A boundary integral equation method for the solution of an important class of crack problems in elasticity is outlined. In this paper, a general solution for three-dimensional static piezothermoelastic problems of crystal class 6mm solids is presented. The general solution involves four piezoelastic potential functions and a piezothermoelastic potential function, of which four piezoelastic potential functions are governed by weighted harmonic differential equations. Compared with the general solution given by Ashida et al., in which seven potential functions are introduced, the general solution proposed in the present paper is more rigorously derived. Moreover, it has a simple form and is convenient for application. As an illustrative example, the problem of a pyroelectric half-space subjected to axisymmetric heating is studied. Numerical results of displacements stresses, electric potential and electric displacements are obtained for a cadmium selenide half-space. Thermally induced displacements and stress distribution are compared with those obtained for the same material without piezoelectric and pyroelectric effects. In this paper, we propose a new methodology for numerically solving elliptic and parabolic equations with discontinuous coefficients and singular source terms. This new scheme is obtained by clubbing a recently developed higher‐order compact methodology with special interface treatment for the points just next to the points of discontinuity. The overall order of accuracy of the scheme is at least second. We first formulate the scheme for one‐dimensional (1D) problems, and then extend it directly to two‐dimensional (2D) problems in polar coordinates. In the process, we also perform convergence and related analysis for both the cases. Finally, we show a new direction of implementing the methodology to 2D problems in cartesian coordinates. We then conduct numerous numerical studies on a number of problems, both for 1D and 2D cases, including the flow past circular cylinder governed by the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. We compare our results with existing numerical and experimental results. In all the cases, our formulation is found to produce better results on coarser grids. For the circular cylinder problem, the scheme used is seen to capture all the flow characteristics including the famous von Kármán vortex street. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Paper concerns the Boussinesq and Reissner-Sagoci contact problems for a rigid punch in contact with the plane face of an isotropic elastic half-space over a circular annulusbra. It is shown that a simple combination of the interior and exterior Dirichlet and Neumann solutions for a circle, when expressed in terms of oblate spheriodal coordinates, yields extremely accurate approximate solutions provided that 0b/a0.8.  相似文献

Given a bounded open subset of R n, we prove the existence of a minimum point for a functional F defined on the family A() of all quasiopen subsets of , under the assumption that F is decreasing with respect to set inclusion and that F is lower semicontinuous on A() with respect to a suitable topology, related to the resolvents of the Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary condition. Applications are given to the existence of sets of prescribed volume with minimal k th eigenvalue (or with minimal capacity) with respect to a given elliptic operator.  相似文献
