A laser-ablation molecular-beam Fourier transform microwave (LA-MB-FTMW) spectrometer has been successfully applied to the structural study of alpha-aminobutyric acid. Three neutral conformers have been identified in the gas phase by comparing their experimental rotational and 14N nuclear quadrupole coupling parameters with those predicted by ab initio calculations at the MP2/6-311++G(d,p) level. The most stable conformer is stabilized by a bifurcated amine-to-carbonyl hydrogen bond (N--HO=C) and a cis-COOH group, and the side-chain adopts a configuration with a torsion angle tau(C(gamma)-C(beta)-C(alpha)-C') of about 180 degrees. The second most stable conformer exhibits the same configuration for the amino acid skeleton but adopts a different orientation for the side chain with tau(C(gamma)-C(beta)-C(alpha)-C') approximately -60 degrees. In the third conformer an intramolecular hydrogen bond is established between the hydroxyl group and the nitrogen atom (NH--O), with a side-chain orientation similar to that of the most stable conformer.  相似文献

The neutral form of the unnatural amino acid phenylglycine was vaporized by laser ablation, and the presence of two conformers was detected in a supersonic expansion by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. Both conformers were unequivocally identified by comparison of their experimental rotational and quadrupole coupling constants with those calculated ab initio. The most stable conformer is stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds N-H...O=C, N-H...pi (with the closest C-C bond in the aromatic ring), and a cis-COOH interaction. The other conformer exhibits a O-H...N hydrogen bond between the hydrogen atom of the hydroxyl group and the lone pair at the nitrogen atom.  相似文献

Three conformers of the neutral amino acid N,N-dimethylglycine [(CH3)2NCH2COOH] were detected in a supersonic expansion by a combination of laser ablation (LA) and molecular-beam Fourier transform microwave (MB-FTMW) spectroscopy. A bifurcated methyl-to-carbonyl (C--HO==C) weak intramolecular hydrogen bond might stabilise the most stable conformer of C(s) symmetry. The second most stable conformer of C1 symmetry has a hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group and the lone pair at the nitrogen atom (NH--O). The r(s) and r0 structures were derived for this conformer from the rotational data for the parent and six minor 13C, 15N and OD isotopomers. A third conformer exhibits a cis-carboxyl functional group and C1 symmetry. Ab initio MP2/6-311++G(d,p) predictions of the spectroscopic parameters were useful in analysing the spectra. In particular, the agreement of the nuclear quadrupole coupling constants with those calculated was conclusive in identifying the different conformers.  相似文献

The adsorption of neutral glycine onto amorphous silica was investigated both theoretically and experimentally. DFT calculations were performed at the BLYP-631++G** level using a cluster approach. Several possible configurations involving the formation of H bonds between glycine and one, two, or three silanol groups (SiOH) were considered. The most favorable bonding of glycine with one silanol group (45 kJ mol(-1)) occurs through the COOH moiety, thus forming a cycle in which the CO group is an H-bond acceptor whereas the acidic OH group is an H-bond donor. With two or three silanol groups, additional H bonds are formed between the amine moiety and the silanol groups, which leads to an increased adsorption energy (70 and 80 kJ mol(-1) for two and three silanol groups, respectively). Calculated nu(CO), delta(HNH), and delta(HCH) values are sensitive to the adsorption mode. A bathochromic shift of nu(CO) as compared to the nu(CO) of free glycine (calculated in the 1755-1790 cm(-1) range) is found for glycine in interaction with silanol(s). The more H bonds are formed between the COOH moiety and silanol groups, the higher the bathochromic shift. For delta(HNH), no shift is found for glycine adsorbed on one and two silanol groups (where the amine is either not bound or an H-bond donor), whereas a bathochromic shift is calculated with three silanols when the amine moiety is an H-bond acceptor. Experimental FTIR spectra performed at room temperature for glycine adsorbed at 160 degrees C on Aerosil amorphous silica exhibit bands at 1371, 1423, 1630, and 1699 cm(-1). The experimental/calculated frequencies have their best correspondence for glycine adsorbed on two silanol groups. It is important to note that the forms giving the best correspondence to experimental frequencies are the most stable ones.  相似文献

The rotational spectra of several isotopologues of the 1:1 complex between the inhaled anesthetic isoflurane and water have been recorded and analyzed by using Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. The rotational spectrum showed a single rotamer, corresponding to the configuration in which the most stable conformer of isolated isoflurane is linked to the water molecule through an almost linear C?H???O weak hydrogen bond. All transitions display a hyperfine structure due to the 35Cl (or 37Cl) nuclear quadrupole effects.  相似文献

This work describes the use of conformer‐selective laser spectroscopy following supersonic expansion to probe the local folding proclivities of four‐membered ring cyclic β‐amino acid building blocks. Emphasis is placed on stereochemical effects as well as on the structural changes induced by the replacement of a carbon atom of the cycle by a nitrogen atom. The amide A IR spectra are obtained and interpreted with the help of quantum chemistry structure calculations. Results provide evidence that the building block with a trans‐substituted cyclobutane ring has a predilection to form strong C8 hydrogen bonds. Nitrogen‐atom substitution in the ring induces the formation of the hydrazino turn, with a related but distinct hydrogen‐bonding network: the structure is best viewed as a bifurcated C8/C5 bond with the N heteroatom lone electron pair playing a significant acceptor role, which supports recent observations on the hydrazino turn structure in solution. Surprisingly, this study shows that the cis‐substituted cyclobutane ring derivative also gives rise predominantly to a C8 hydrogen bond, although weaker than in the two former cases, a feature that is not often encountered for this building block.  相似文献

The effects of fluorination on the conformational landscape of adrenergic neurotransmitters is exemplified trough the conformation analysis of 2‐(2‐F‐phenyl)ethanamine (2FPEA) carried out by microwave spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Five different conformers of the nine possible stable ones for 2FPEA are observed by molecular‐beam Fourier‐transform microwave spectroscopy. Their unambiguous identification is possible by comparing the experimental rotational constants and the quadrupole coupling constants with those obtained by quantum chemical calculations carried out at the MP2/6‐311++G(d,p) level of theory. The relative abundances of the conformers in the jet are estimated from the relative intensities in the observed spectra. A qualitative agreement between experimental and theoretical energies was found, and the remaining deviations are explained by population transfer taking place during the adiabatic expansion. The energy landscape, which also takes the interconversion barriers between the conformers into consideration, is thus characterized completely by the strong interplay of quantum chemical methods and precise experimental data. Significant changes in energy and structure of the 2FPEA conformers are found compared to those obtained for the prototype molecule 2‐phenylethanamine (PEA).  相似文献

The rotational spectrum of the tropane alkaloid scopine is detected by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy in a pulsed supersonic jet. A nonconventional method for bringing the molecules intact into the gas phase is used in which scopine syrup is mixed with glycine powder and the solid mixture is vaporized with an ultrafast UV laser beam. Laser vaporization prevents the easy isomerization to scopoline previously observed with conventional heating methods. A single conformer is unambiguously observed in the supersonic jet and corresponds to the energetically most stable species according to quantum chemical calculations. Rotational and centrifugal distortion constants are accurately determined. The spectrum shows fine and hyperfine structure due to the hindered rotation of the methyl group and the presence of a quadrupolar nucleus (14N), respectively. This additional information allows the angle of N‐methyl inversion between the N?CH3 bond and the bicyclic C‐N‐C plane to be determined (131.8–137.8°), as well as the internal rotation barrier of the methyl group (6.235(1) kJ mol?1).  相似文献

The simplest non-proteinogenic amino acid α-aminoisobutyric acid (Aib), an analogue of glycine and alanine, has been vaporized by laser ablation and probed by high-resolution Fourier transform microwave spectroscopic techniques. Comparison of the experimental rotational and 14N nuclear quadrupole constants with that predicted ab initio has allowed the identification of three conformers of Aib exhibiting three types of hydrogen-bond interactions I (NH⋅⋅⋅O=C, cis-COOH), II (OH⋅⋅⋅N, trans-COOH), and III (N−H⋅⋅⋅O−H, cis-COOH) within the amino acid backbone. The observation of conformer III, not detected previously for related proteinogenic amino acids with a nonpolar side chain in a supersonic expansion, indicates that the presence of the methyl groups should restrict the conformational relaxation from conformer Aib-III to Aib-I. For conformer Aib-II, the rotational spectra of the 13C isotopomers reveal a tunneling motion arising from the two equivalent methyl groups in the molecule. The observation of a single spectrum at the midpoint between those predicted for the two 13C of the methyl groups has been explained by considering a double-minimum potential function with a low-energy interconversion barrier for a large amplitude internal motion. This singular fact has been corroborated by the anomalous centrifugal distortion effects determined in conformer Aib-II.  相似文献

Two 1:1 adducts of ammonia with ethanol have been characterized by using pulsed‐jet FT microwave spectroscopy. They are formed with two different (trans and gauche), stable conformers of ethanol. Several internal‐dynamics effects are reflected in the features of the rotational spectra. The trans complex shows the tunneling effects owing to internal rotation of both ammonia and the methyl group. The rotational transitions of the gauche species exhibit a small splitting that is related to tunneling through the potential‐energy barrier between the two equivalent minima.  相似文献

The effect of ring fluorination on the structural and dynamical properties of the flexible model molecule 2‐fluorobenzylamine has been studied by rotational spectroscopy in free‐jet expansion and quantum chemical methods. The complete potential energy surface originating from the flexibility of the aminic side chain has been calculated at the B3LYP/6‐311++G** level of theory and the stable geometries were also characterized with MP2/6‐311++G**. The rotational spectra show the presence of two of the predicted four stable conformers: the global minimum (I), in which the side chain’s dihedral angle with the phenyl plane is almost perpendicular, is stabilized by an intramolecular hydrogen bond between the fluorine atom and one hydrogen of the aminic group; and a second conformer II (EII?EI≈5 kJ mol?1) in which the dihedral angle is smaller and the amino group points towards the aromatic ortho hydrogen atom. This conformation is characterized by a tunneling motion between two equivalent positions of the amino group with respect to the phenyl plane, which splits the rotational transition. The ortho fluorination increases, with respect to benzylamine, the tunneling splitting of this motion by four orders of magnitude. The motion is analyzed with a one‐dimensional flexible model, which allows estimation of the energy barrier for the transition state as approximately 8.0 kJ mol?1.  相似文献

Hydration of chiral molecules is a subject of significant current interest in light of recent experimental observations of chirality transfer from chiral solutes to water in solution and the important roles which water plays in biological events. Using a broadband chirped pulse and a cavity based microwave spectrometer, we detected spectroscopic signatures of the mono‐ and dihydrates of methyl lactate, a chiral hydroxy ester. Surprisingly, these small hydration clusters show highly specific binding preferences. Not only do they strongly prefer the insertion H‐bonding topology, but they also favor specific pointing direction(s) for their non‐H‐bonded hydroxy group(s). We observed that the particular dihydrate conformer identified is not the most stable one predicted. This work highlights the superior capability of high‐resolution spectroscopy to identify specific water binding topologies, and provides quantitative data to test state‐of‐the‐art theory.  相似文献

Four conformers of the heterodimer o-anisic acid–formic acid, formed in a supersonic expansion, have been probed by Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. Two of these forms have the typical double intermolecular hydrogen-bond cyclic structure. The other two show the o-anisic acid moiety bearing a trans-COOH arrangement supported by an intramolecular O−H⋅⋅⋅O bond to the neighbor methoxy group. In these conformers, formic acid interacts with o-anisic acid mainly through an intermolecular O−H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bond either to the O−H or to the C=O moieties, reinforced by other weak interactions. Surprisingly, the most abundant conformer in the supersonic expansion is the complex in which the o-anisic acid is in trans arrangement with the formic acid interacting with the O−H group. Such a trans-COOH arrangement in which the intramolecular hydrogen bond dominates over the usually observed double intermolecular hydrogen bond interaction has never been observed previously in an acid–acid dimer.  相似文献

The rotational spectra of four conformers of the acrylic acid—difluoroacetic acid adduct (CH2=CHCOOH–CHF2COOH, AA‐DFA) are reported and information on their internal dynamics is supplied. This represents an unprecedented result for the conformational analysis, with microwave spectroscopy, of such a heavy molecular adduct.  相似文献
