Steroid compounds of marine sponges. VII. Preparation of derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol sulfates and structure-activity interrelationships among these compounds

Five new sulfated derivatives of sokotrasterol and halistanol have been obtained: 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate); 24-nor-5-cholane-2,3,6,23-tetraol 2,3,6-tri(sodium sulfate) 23-palmitate; 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 3-(sodium sulfate); 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 6-(sodium sulfate); and 24,25-dimethyl-5-cholestane-2,3,6-triol 2,6-di(sodium sulfate). The inhibiting and membranolytic properties of the polysulfated steroids from sponges and their derivatives have been studied. A differential scanning calorimetric study of some phenol derivatives

Differential scanning calorimetry has been applied to derive the fusion enthalpies and entropies of series of mono and dimethylphenols, mono and dichlorophenols, and mono and dinitrophenols.

Amino acid and peptide derivatives of the indole series

Summary 1. A method for obtaining amino acid and peptide derivatives of -methyltryptamine have been described.2. In respect of their biological activity, the closest to Indopan are glycyl--methyltryptamine and L--glutamyl--methyltryptamine, which, at the same time, possess a weaker action on the peripheral adrenoreactive system.3. Synthesis of α,α′-bisdialkylphosphonoisopropylnitroxyls

Polyhydroxylated steroids from the starfishPatiria pectinifera

By chromatography on Polikhrom-1, silica gel, and Florisil, an ethanolic extract of the digestive organs of the starfishPatiria pectinifera has yielded the steroid polyols 5-cholestan-3,6,8,15,16,26-hexaol and 5-cholestan-3,4,6,7,8,15,16,26-octaol 6-(sodium sulfate). One- and two-dimensional homo- and heteronuclear correlation proton, carbon, proton—proton, and proton—carbon NMR spectra of fifteen drimanic sesquiterpenoids: 11,12-dibromodrima-5,8-dien-7-one, drim-8-en-7-one, 11-hydroxydrim-8-en-7-one, 11,12-dihydroxydrim-8-en-7-one, 11-hydroxy-11,12-epoxydrim-8-en-7-one, 11-hydroxy-11,12-epoxydrim-8-en-7-one, 8,9-epoxydriman-7-one, 8,9-epoxydriman-7-ol, 11,12-diacetoxydrim-8-en-7-ol, drimane-7,8,11-triol, 7,8-isopropylidenedioxydriman-11-al, 9, 11-dihydroxydrim-7-en-6-one, drimane-7,8,9-triol, drimane-7,8,11-triol, and drim-8-ene-7,11,12-triol were studied. Crystallochemical Aspect of Phase Formation in the γ-FeOOH-H2O-NaOH System

Phase transition of metastable -FeOOH into -FeOOH and its chemical transformation into -Fe₂O₃ upon hydrothermal treatment in 0-5 M NaOH solutions at 100-230°C were studied. The regions of formation of the above phases were specified. The probable composition of the crystallizing complexes formed in the solutions and the reactions occurring at their incorporation into various atomically smooth faces of -FeOOH and -Fe₂O₃ were considered.

Zusammenfassung Die Alkoholate einiger Halbäther des Äthylenglykols reagieren mit Trichloräthylen unter Bildung von ,-Dichlorvinyläthern. Diese Äther addieren Chlorwasserstoff unter Bildung von ,,-Trichloräthyläthern, deren Struktur durch Verseifung zu den Chloracetaten der Halbäther des Äthylenglykols bewiesen wird.     

Circular Dichroism Spectra of 5- and 7-Bromo-6-ketosteroids

Circulardichroismspectra of 5- and 7-bromo-6-ketosteroidsof the cholestane and stigmastane serieswere studied. A negative Cotton effect corresponding to the n-* -transition of the ketone was observed in the CD spectra of 5-bromo-6-ketosteroids at 300 nm. The analogous Cotton effect was positive in CD spectra of 7-bromo-6-ketosteroids.     

Triterpene glycosides ofPatrinia scabiosofolia; II

Conclusions The triterpene glycosides scabiosides D, E, F, and G have been isolated from the roots ofPatrinia scabiosofolia Fisch. et Link. It has been established that scabioside D is O--D-glucopyranosyl-(1 4)-O--L-arabopyranosyl-(1 3)-O-oleanoloyl-(28 1)--D-xylopyranose, and scabioside E is O--D-glucopyranosyl-(1 4)-O--L-arabopyranosyl-(1 3)-O-oleanoloyl-(28 1)-O--D-xylopyranosyl-(4 1)--L-rhamnopyranose.     

Analogs of pyrimidine nucleosides

A number of N₁-(-butyrolactono) derivatives of 5-substituted uracils have been synthesized by condensing the sodium derivatives of the corresponding bases with -bromobutyrolactone or by the halogenation of N₁-(-butyrolactono)uracil.For part I, see [1].     

Study of cyclohexane conversion on A Pt/Al2O3 catalyst under reforming conditions by a gradientless method

A common type of rate equations for hydrocarbon conversions under reforming conditions has been shown, resulting from the features of the hydrocarbons and hydrogen adsorption on the Pt/Al₂O₃ catalyst. This has been confirmed by variations in the rate of cyclohexane conversion observed upon the introduction of methane into the reaction mixture. Methane does not react but is strongly adsorbed on the catalyst surface.

Synthesis of two peptides of α-bungarotoxin and the participation of the amino acid residue Trp-28 of the neurotoxin in the antigenicity of the molecule

Using the method of solid-phase peptide synthesis, two peptides have been synthesized, one of which corresponds to the central ring structure of -bungarotoxin (-BTX), while the second has in position 28 a Gly residue in place of the Trp in the first peptide, and their interrelationship with antitoxin antibodies has been investigated. It has been shown that the amino acid residue Trp-28 of -BTX, which is the contact residue in binding with the acetylcholine receptor, also participates directly in binding with the active centers of antibodies to -BTX.Translated from Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 4, pp. 628–631, July–August, 1997.     

Excess enthalpies of aqueous solutions of small peptides at 25°C

Heats of dilution of aqueous solutions of the following di-and tripeptides were determined at 25°C over a wide concentration range: -alanyl-glycine, -alanyl--alanine, DL--alanyl-glycine, glycyl-DL--alanine, L--alanyl-L-alanine, DL--alanyl-DL--alanine, DL--alanyl-DL-valine, DL--alanyl--alanine, glycyl--aminobutyric acid, glycyl-L-leucine and DL--alanyl-glycylglycine. The excess enthalpies H^ex and partial molar relative enthalpies L₂ were calculated and enthalpy coefficients of intermolecular interaction were analysed using the additivity principle of Savage and Wood. The concentration dependence of the enthalpic characteristics of peptide-peptide interactions is discussed based on of their hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity. The three-stage model of peptide association is described using enthalpic coefficients of intermolecular interactions.     

Determination of lead and cadmium using a polycyclodextrin-modified carbon paste electrode with anodic stripping voltammetry

This work reports the use of and -cyclodextrin-modified carbon paste electrodes (CPE_-CD and CPE_-CD) to determine simultaneously Pb(II) and Cd(II) by means of the electrochemical technique known as anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). Both modified electrodes displayed good resolution of the oxidation peaks of the said metals. Statistic analysis of the results strongly suggests that the CPE_-CD exhibited a better analytical response that the CPE_-CD, while the detection limits obtained for Pb(II) were 6.3×10^–7 M for the CPE_-CD and 7.14×10^–7 M for the CPE_-CD, whereas for Cd(II) they were 2.51×10^–6 M for the CPE_-CD and 2.03×10^–6 M for the CPE_-CD.     

LLX separation of carrier-free,94,95,97,103Ru,93,94,95,96,99mTc and95,96Nb produced in alpha-particle activated molybdenum by TOA

A radiochemical charged particle activation procedure for the simultaneous production of carrier-free radioisotopes of more than one element in a single target and their subsequent separation through LLX has been demonstrated. The carrier free isotopes,^95,96Nb,^{93,94,95,96,99m}Tc and^94,95,97,103Ru formed through Mo(,pxn), Mo(,pxn) and Mo(,xn) nuclear reactions with 40 MeV -particle as detected by nondestructive -ray spectroscopy, have been effectively separated through LLX using TOA as an anionic extractant. Separation of the bulk matrix of molybdenum from the carrier free products has been monitored radiometrically using isotopic^93,99mMo formed through the Mo(,xn) reaction, as radioindicators for the target element. Purity of the separated carrier free radionuclide has been verified by -ray spectrometry.     

A bifunctional stopcock-winch device in cells for infrared investigations of solids

A simple glass device is described acting as stopcock and winch at the same time. The device is especially suitable for the dislocation of solid sample holders in IR cells.

A novel synthesis of N-acetyl-α-d-fucosamine 1-phosphate and uridine 5"-diphospho-N-acetyl-α-d-fucosamine

In connection with studies on the biosynthesis of capsular polysaccharides from Staphylococcus aureus, a new synthesis of uridine 5"-(2-acetamido-2,6-dideoxy--d-galactopyranosyl diphosphate) (uridine 5"-diphospho-N-acetyl--d-fucosamine) using 2-azido-3,4-di-O-acetyl-2,6-dideoxy--d-galactopyranosyl nitrate as the key intermediate was carried out. The reaction of this product with cesium dibenzyl phosphate smoothly affords the corresponding -glycosyl dibenzyl phosphate, which undergoes anomerization on treatment with BF₃·Et₂O and 2-bromopyridine to give -glycosyl dibenzyl phosphate in high yield. This product was then transformed into 2-amino-3,4-di-O-acetyl-2,6-dideoxy--d-galactopyranosyl phosphate, subsequently converted into 2-acetamido-2,6-dideoxy--d-galactopyranosyl phosphate and the target nucleoside diphosphate sugar.
