Let n be n-dimensional Euclidean space, and let : [0, L] n and : [0, L] n be closed rectifiable arcs in n of the same total length L which are parametrized via their arc length. is said to be a chord-stretched version of if for each 0s tL, |(t)–(s)| |(t)–(s)|. is said to be convex if is simple and if ([0, L]) is the frontier of some plane convex set. Individual work by Professors G. Choquet and G. T. Sallee demonstrated that if were simple then there existed a convex chord-stretched version of . This result led Professor Yang Lu to conjecture that if were convex and were a chord-stretched version of then and would be congruent, i.e. any chord-stretching map of a convex arc is an isometry. Professor Yang Lu has proved this conjecture in the case where and are C 2 curves. In this paper we prove the conjecture in general.  相似文献

In this paper equivalent classes of the classes M and S pr , p > 1, > 0. r { 0,1,2, ... ,[]} defined by Shuyun [3] are obtained. Then, it is shown that the class S pr , 1 > p 2, 0, r {0,1,2,...,[]} is a subclass of BVC r , where S pr is the equivalent class of the Shuyun's class S pr , BV is the class of null sequences of bounded variation and C r is the extension of the Garrett--Stanojevic class. As a corollary of this result, we have obtained the theorem, proved in [7].  相似文献

Let be a Guelfand measure (cf. [A, B]) on a locally compact groupG DenoteL 1 (G)=*L 1(G)* the commutative Banach algebra associated to . We show thatL 1 (G) is semi-simple and give a characterization of the closed ideals ofL 1 (G). Using the -spherical Fourier transform, we characterize all linear bounded operators inL 1 (G) which are invariants by -translations (i.e. such that 1(( x f) )=( x ((f)) for eachxG andfL 1 (G); where x f(y)=f(xy); x,y G). WhenG is compact, we study the algebraL 1 (G) and obtain results analogous to ones obtained for the commutative case: we show thatL 1 (G) is regular, all closed sets of its Guelfand spectrum are sets of synthesis and establish theorems of harmonic synthesis for functions inL p (G) (p=1,2 or +).

We shall give a further application of Hermite-Mahler polynomials to the consideration ofp-adic exponential function. An effective lower bound is obtained for max {| – | p ,P(e )| p }, where is an algebraic number satisfying || p <p –/(p–1), and 0 is ap-adic number with | | p depending on the degree of the polynomialPZ[y]. For the operator Lv=–(x2ay). x [0, 1], y(0)=y(1)=0 with 0 < 1/2, or ¦y¦ < , y(1)=0 with 1/2 <1, we investigate the effect which the singularity of the Sturm-Liouville operator derived from this self-adjoint expression has on Lp-convergence of expansions in terms of the eigenfunctions of this operator. [1] about the existence of a setA ofk points in general position without a 7-hole (i.e., vertices of a convex 7-gon containing no other points fromA), satisfying . We consider regular and Cantor-like minimal foliations of the (n+1)-dimensional TorusT n+1 whose leaves minimize a given variational integral. Each leaf of such a generalized foliation lies in the universal coveringR n+1 within a finite distance to the affine leaves (z, x+) of fixed R n . We show that the conjugation-functionU (x,), mapping the affine leaves (x, x+) into the leaves(x,U (x,x+)) of the generalized foliation, is itself a minimal solution of an extended degenerate variational problem onT n +1. If R n /Q n the functionU is characterized in a unique way as (discontinuous) limit of the minimal solutions of the corresponding regularized problem.  相似文献

In this paper we show that the local time of the Brownian motion belongs to the Sobolev space for any p2 and 0<<1/p. In order to prove this result we first discuss the smoothness and integrability properties of the composition of the Dirac function with a Wiener integral W(h), and we show that this composition belongs to , for any >0 and p>1 such that +1/p>1.  相似文献

Let be a barreled locally convex space. A continuous operator on is called anequicontinuous generator if { n /n!;n=0,1,2,...} is an equicontinuous family of operators. For each equicontinuous generator a one-parameter group of operators is constructed by means of power series. There is a one-to-one correspondence between the equicontinuous generators and the locally equicontinuous holomorphic one-parameter groups of operators. If two equicontinuous generators 1, 2 satisfy [1,2]=2 for some thena1+b2 is also an equicontinuous generator for anya, b. These general results are applied to a study of operators on white noise functions. In particular, a linear combination of the number operator and the Gross Laplacian, which are natural infinite dimensional analogues of a finite dimensional Laplacian, is always an equicontinuous generator. In this paper we prove that if f C (0, 1 N ) and the function f is of bounded partial variation, then the N-dimensional Walsh-Fourier series of the function f is uniformly (C,–) summable (1 +...+ N < 1, i > 0, i = 1,...,N) in the sense of Pringsheim. Summary This article is concerned with the determination of upper and lower bounds for the lowest eigenvalue 1() of the elastically supported vibrating membrane. The elastic support on the boundary is characterized by which is regarded as a parameter.The classical Rayleigh-Principle gives upper bounds. The use of a convex functionalJ() yields upper and lower bounds for 1(). A method of decomposition leads to a lower bound for 1().

Banach algebras generated by Fourier and Mellin convolution operators with discontinuous presymbols and by discontinuous functions in Lp (IR+, x) spaces with weight are investigated. The Fredholm properties are characterized by a symbol calculus and an index formula for such operators is presented. These results were obtained by H. O. Summary In this paper we give a new and comparatively simple proof of the following theorem by Girard [1]:If x y (x,y) (where the relation is arithmetic and positive in Kleene's ), then there exists a recursive DilatorD such that x <y (x, y).The essential feature of our proof is its very direct definition of the dilatorD. It is shown that if a linearly ordered set B does not contain as subsets sets of order type and * then B can be embedded in 2 . We construct an example of a set satisfying the above conditions which cannot be embedded in any 2 if < .
