Cross-sections for the production of neutron-rich nuclei obtained by neutron-induced fission of natural uranium have been measured. The neutrons were generated by bombarding a 13C target with 55 MeV protons. The results, position of the maximum in the (Z, A)-plane, width and magnitude, are very comparable with those where the neutrons are generated by bombardment of natural 12C graphite with 50 MeV deuterons. Depending on the geometry of the converter/target assembly the isotope yields, however, are a factor of 2-3 lower due to less efficient production of neutrons per primary projectile, especially at small forward angles. In the context of a parameter study conducted by several laboratories for future European radioactive beam facilities based on fast-neutron induced fission, in particular for the SPIRAL-II project at GANIL, we have measured the yields of neutron-rich isotopes in the mass range of 88 to 144. These nuclei were obtained as fission products of natural uranium bombarded by neutrons of 20 MeV average energy emitted by a thick carbon target irradiated by 50 MeV deuterons. Yields have been measured using on-line mass separation with the ion-guide method. Compared with proton-induced fission at 25 MeV the magnitude of cross-sections, except for the symmetric region, is similar. Z-distributions of isobars have the same width, 0.7 charge units, but their maxima are shifted by about 0.8 charge units, favouring production of the neutron-richer isobars. Our data allow calculations of absolute cross-sections for fission of natural uranium induced by neutrons of about 20 MeV. Received: 10 July 2000 / Accepted: 27 October 2000  相似文献

Experiments have been performed for studying quaternary fission (QF) in spontaneous fission of 252Cf, on the one hand, and for the neutron-induced fission reactions 233, 235U(nth, f ), on the other hand. In this higher-multiplicity fission mode, by definition, four charged products appear in the final state. In other words, as a generalization of the ternary-fission process, not only one but two light charged particles (LCPs) are accompanying the splitting of an actinide nucleus into the customary pair of fission fragments. In the two sets of measurements, which have used quite different approaches, the yields of several QF reactions with α-particles and tritons as the LCPs have been determined and the corresponding kinetic-energy distributions of the α-particles measured. The QF process can appear in two basically different ways: i) the simultaneous creation of two LCPs in the act of fission (“true” QF) and ii) via a fast sequential decay of a single but particle-unstable LCP in common ternary fission (“pseudo” QF). Experimentally the two varieties of QF have been distinguished by exploiting the different patterns of angular correlations between the two outgoing LCPs. The experiments described in the present paper are the first to demonstrate that both types of reactions, true and pseudo QF, occur with quite comparable probabilities. As a new result also, the kinetic-energy distributions related to the two processes have been shown to be significantly different. For all QF reactions which could be explored, the yields for 252Cf(sf) were found to be roughly by an order of magnitude larger than the yields found in the 233U(nth, f ) and 235U(nth, f ) reactions. An interesting by-product has been the measurement of yields of excited LCPs which allows to deduce nuclear temperatures at scission by comparison to the respective yields in the ground state.  相似文献

For the first time, average angular momenta of the ternary fission fragments 100, 102Zr, 106Mo, 144, 146Ba and 138, 140, 142Xe from the α-accompanied fission of 252Cf were obtained from relative intensities of prompt γ-ray transitions with the use of the statistical model calculation. Average values of the angular momenta were compared with the corresponding values for the same fission fragments from the binary fission of 252Cf. Results indicate the presence of a decreasing trend in the average values of angular momenta induced in ternary fission fragments compared to the same binary fission fragments. On the average, the total angular momentum extracted for ternary fission fragments is ∼1.4 ℏ lower than in binary fission. Consequently, results indicate that the mechanism of the ternary α-particles emission may directly effect an induction of angular momenta of fission fragments, and possible scenarios of such mechanisms are discussed. Further, the dependence of the angular momenta of 106Mo and 140Xe on the number of emitted neutrons from correlated pairs of primary fragments was obtained also showing a decreasing dependence of average angular momenta with increasing number of emitted neutrons. Consequences are briefly discussed.  相似文献

A thin target of ^197Au is bombarded with 29 MeV protons from the cyclotron at Department of Nuclear Research Centre for Agriculture and Medicine. Correlated energies of fission-fragment pairs are measured with silicon surface-barrier detectors and their time of flights is made using a spectrometry pair. The fission cross section, fragment mass distribution, and total kinetic energy distribution of the fission fragments are measured in our experiment. The results are also compared with the previous works and good agreements are found.  相似文献

The most probable charges of secondary fragments, produced after neutron evaporation from primary fragments, have been evaluated using fractional cumulative and mass yields in the 12MeV proton-induced fission of 232Th . The nuclear-charge polarization of primary fragments at scission has been obtained by correcting the most probable charge of secondary fragments for neutron evaporation. The fragment mass dependence of the nuclear-charge polarization at scission shows good agreement with that for thermal neutron-induced fission of 235U , indicating that the nuclear-charge polarization is nearly insensitive to mass and excitation energy of the fissioning nucleus for asymmetric fission in the actinide region.  相似文献

Using available experimental data on fission barriers and ground-state masses, a detailed study of the predictions of different models concerning the isospin dependence of saddle-point masses is performed. Evidence is found that several macroscopic models yield unrealistic saddle-point masses for very neutron-rich nuclei, which are relevant for the r-process nucleosynthesis.  相似文献

The electromagnetic radiation from two vibrating fission fragments is classically treated. The rotational and translational motion of the fragments during emission and the interference of the radiation from the two individual fragments are taken into account. It is shown that the angular distribution of the radiation contains valuable information on the fission process and that the spectral distribution depends sensitively on the damping of the shape vibration.Dedicated to Professor P. Within the scission point model the bimodality in fission of actinides is demonstrated to be related to different neighboring charge and mass splittings. This phenomenon is peculiar not only for the fission of heavy nuclei like 256,258Fm and 256,258,262No but also for fission of lighter actinides like 236U, 240Pu and 252Cf. The experiments are suggested to prove our interpretation of bimodality.  相似文献

P-odd asymmetries in binary fission of oriented target nuclei induced by cold polarized neutrons are described for the first time using methods of the quantum theory of fission. A spin matrix of the compound nucleus density is constructed with allowance for the interference of the fission amplitudes of various pairs of neutron resonances excited in the given nucleus during the capture of a cold polarized neutron by the oriented target nucleus. In the differential cross sections for this reaction we obtain not only P-odd T-even correlations with the angular dependence different from that of the earlier investigated correlations in the fission of unoriented target nuclei by polarized neutrons but also P-odd T-odd correlations that do not occur in the fission of unoriented target nuclei by polarized neutrons and oriented target nuclei by unpolarized neutrons.  相似文献

Within the quantum-mechanical theory of the nuclear-fission process, the conditions of the emergence of coherent effects in the angular distributions of fragments originating from the binary and ternary fission of polarized nuclei are analyzed with allowance for the properties of transition fission states. In the case of ternary fission, the coefficients of P-odd asymmetry in the angular distributions of a light particle and a third particle, which is taken here to be an alpha particle, are calculated under the assumption that the third particle and two fragments are produced through a one-step mechanism. In order to confirm the ideas developed here, it is proposed to repeat, at a higher level of statistical accuracy, experiments devoted to seeking P-odd asymmetries for alpha particles in the ternary fission of nuclei.  相似文献

The deuteron break-up process in a suitable converter gives rise to intense neutron beams. A source of neutron-rich nuclei based on the neutron-induced fission can be realised using these beams. A theoretical optimization of such a facility as a function of the incident deuteron energy is reported. The model used to determine the fission products takes into account the excitation energy of the target nucleus and the evaporation of prompt neutrons. Results are presented in connection with a converter-target specific geometry. Received: 1 December 2000 / Accepted: 12 May 2001  相似文献

The possibility of semiclassically describing T-even TRI-type asymmetry in ternary fission induced by polarized neutrons is considered on the basis of employing Coriolis interaction that takes into account the coupling of a light charged particle to the collective rotation of a polarized fissile nucleus. It is shown that allowance for this interaction makes it possible to explain qualitatively the magnitudes of two asymmetry effects observed in light-charge-particle emission both within the semiclassical and within the quantum-mechanical approach. The difference in the relative magnitudes and signs of the effects between different target nuclei is associated with the interference contributions to the cross section from neighboring neutron resonances and therefore cannot be explained within the semiclassical approach.  相似文献

Charge distribution studies for heavy-mass fission products were carried out in the fast-neutron-induced fission of 232Th, 238U, 240Pu and 244Cm using radiochemical and gamma-ray spectrometric techniques. The width parameter( σZA), the most probable charge/mass ( Z P/A P), the charge polarization (ΔZ) and the slope of charge polarization [ δ(ΔZ)/δA ] as a function of the fragment mass (A ) were deduced. The average charge dispersion parameter ( 〈σZ〉) and proton odd-even effect ( δp) were also obtained for these fissioning systems. The 〈σZ〉 and δp values in the fissioning systems 241Pu * and 245Cm * were determined for the first time. The δ(ΔZ)/δA value is also determined for the first time in the fissioning systems 239U * , 241Pu * and 245Cm * . These data along with the literature data for even-Z fissioning systems such as 230Th * , 232Th * , 233U * , 234U * , 236U * , 238U * , 239Pu * , 240Pu*, 242Pu * , 246Cm * , 250Cf * and 252Cf(SF) are discussed in terms of nuclear structure effect and dynamics of descent from the saddle to the scission point. The role of the excitation energy in low-energy fission is also discussed. Heavy 65-70Co, 68-74Ni, 70-76Cu and 74-81Ga isotopes were produced at the LISOL facility by means of 30 MeV proton-induced fission of 238U. Production rates were deduced and compared to two types of cross-section calculations: the empirical model (V. Rubchenya, private communication) and the PROFI code. Comparison with experimental data favors the latter model. Yields using different beam-target combinations and different energies are calculated and discussed. Mass resolved fission fragment angular distribution was measured in the 28.5 MeV alpha induced fission of233U using recoil catcher technique and direct gamma spectrometry. The angular distribution of 8 fission products were obtained. The angular anisotropies of asymmetric fission products were found to be higher than those of symmetric products indicating a correlation between the fragment angular distribution and the mass distribution. The authors are grateful to Dr. S.K.
