Superposition of Fock states via adiabatic passage in a coupled four-level atom-cavity system

We have investigated the behaviour of an atom-cavity system via a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage technique in a four-level system, in which two dark states are present. We find, because of the coherent control field, that a superposition of Fock states can be prepared, even when the cavity is initially not in its vacuum state. This method provides a way to generate arbitrary quantum states of a cavity field. 相似文献

A scheme for creating an arbitrary coherent superposition of two atomic states in serial multi-A-type system is proposed.This technique with the application of a control field is based on the existence of two degenerate dark states and their interaction.The mixing of the dark states can be controlled by changing the relative delay time of the control pulse.One can get any desired superposition by changing the delay time of the control pulse. 相似文献

We propose a flexible way to significantly enhance population transfer efficiency with a train of time-separated pump-Stokes pulse pairs when the non-adiabatic coupling between two degenerate adiabatic states exists in a double Λ-type four-level system, where the pump and Stokes pulses in each pair can be applied in either counterintuitive or intuitive order. It is shown that the needed Rabi frequency for achieving complete population transfer can be reduced dramatically with the increase of number of pump-Stokes pulse pairs, which results from temporal constructive quantum interference between the sequential transitions and subsequent coherent accumulation; moreover, an arbitrary coherent superposition between the two lower states can be realized by suitably tuning the Rabi frequency and the time delay between each pump-Stokes pair. The method may find applications in control of chemical reactions, quantum optics, and quantum information processing. 相似文献

The coherent superposition of two-atomic levels induced by coherent population trapping is employed in the two-level system, the standard three-level Λ type scheme and the four-level N-type systems and a weak probe pulse scans across the system. A theoretical analysis about the response of medium to the probe field is given. It is shown that under different initial conditions, the coherent superposition of the dark state exhibits abundant optical phenomena response to the probe field. It can change the absorption or gain and the dispersion relationship in the medium experienced by the probe. In the embedded three-level scheme, the probe experiences a crossover from absorption to transparent and then to amplification. Consequently the group velocity of the probe pulse can be controlled to propagate either as a subluminal, a standard, a superluminal or even a negative speed. In the embedded four-level N-type system, it can give an enhancement to the Giant Kerr effect and overcome the limitation of two-photon absorption, then make the nonlinear properties of the medium richer than the traditional N-type scheme. 相似文献

We use quantum field entropy to measure the degree of entanglement for a coherent state light field interacting with two atoms that are initially in an arbitrary two-qubit state. The influence of different mean photon number of the coherent field on the entropy of the field is discussed in detail when the two atoms are initially in one superposition state of the Bell states. The results show that the mean photon number of the light field can regulate the quantum entanglement between the atoms and light field. 相似文献

This paper proposes a scheme for generating arbitrary
superpositions of several coherent states along a straight line for
a cavity mode. In the scheme, several atoms are sent through a
cavity initially in a strong coherent state. The superposition of
several coherent states with desired coefficients may be generated
if each atom is detected in the excited state after it exits the
cavity. The scheme is based on resonant atom--cavity interaction and
no classical field is required during and after the atom--cavity
interaction. Thus, the scheme is very simple and the interaction
time is very short, which is important in view of decoherence. 相似文献

从相位分布和Wigner函数两个方面研究了任意两个相干态|β〉 and |mβeiδ〉的叠加态的量子统计性质.结果表明这种叠加态的非经典特性与β2,振幅系数m,相干态间的位相差δ以及叠加系数间的位相差都有关.当参量选择合适,这种叠加态存在着量子效应.计算了两个相干态等几率混合系综的相位分布和Wigner函数,经过与前者比较,结果表明由于相干项的存在,使得叠加态具有很好的量子力学行为. 相似文献

We investigate a new superposition of two coherent states via conditional measurement on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). The resulted output state is obtained by using the superposition of two opposite coherent states with the arbitrary relative phase factors for the a-mode and vacuum state in the b-mode. It is shown that the angle of the phase shifter between the two arms of the MZI is a very important parameter in this new state.

We have studied the steady spontaneous emission spectrum of a four-level Doppler-broadened system driven by three coherent fields. It is found that the fluorescence spectrum is composed of nine contributions. The spectral components have quite different widths and peak heights compared with the case of the standard driven two-level or three-level resonance fluorescence. We provide numerical results in support of our arguments for arbitrary values of the atomic and field parameters. 相似文献

Role of quantum interference in the origin of higher-order nonclassical characteristics of radiation field has been probed vis-à-vis a discrete and a continuous superposition of coherent states. Specifically, the possibilities of observing higher-order nonclassical properties (e.g., higher-order antibunching (HOA), higher-order sub-Poissonian photon statistics (HOSPS), higher-order squeezing (HOS) of Hong-Mandel type and Hillery type) have been investigated using a shifted symmetric cat state that reduces to Yurke-Stoler, even and odd coherent states at various limits. This shifted symmetric cat state which can be viewed as a discrete superposition of coherent states is found to show HOA and HOSPS. Similarly, higher-order nonclassical properties of a one-dimensional continuous superposition of coherent states is also studied here. The investigation has revealed the existence of HOS and HOSPS in the one-dimensional continuous superposition of coherent states studied here. Effect of non-Gaussianity inducing operations (e.g., photon addition and addition followed by subtraction) on these superposition states have also been investigated. Finally, some comparisons have been made between the higher-order nonclassical properties of discrete and continuous superposition of coherent states. 相似文献

The scattering of systems with internal degrees of freedom is studied in the semi-classical approximation. It is found that a special set of states, named coherent internal states, are specially relevant for the semi-classical treatment. A classical trajectory is defined for each coherent internal state. The process of simultaneous absorption of three photons in a medium subjected to a three-photon parametric perturbation is considered. It is shown that in such a medium one can observe the formation of the radiation field states, which are the quantum superposition of three coherent components. One-photon and twophoton absorption processes in the medium also destroy the interference between the components of the superposition state. The states being formed are investigated in both the temporal development (numerically) and the stationary limit (numerically and analytically); the Wigner functions, as well as the quantum entropy, are calculated for a whole series of initial states. It is shown that depending on the initial state of the radiation field, the interference between the three-component superposition states being formed can lead, for example, to the almost total localization of the system in a two-component state or to the destruction of the interference between different coherent components. 相似文献
