High-performance dye-sensitized photoelectrodes using ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNTs) and TiO2 quantum dot blocking layers are fabricated. The free-standing TNT membranes with perfect ordered morphology are prepared by three times of anodic oxidation on Ti foils. These TNT membranes can be easily transported to conductive glasses to fabricate front-side illuminated photoelectrodes. By changing anodic oxidation duration, the thickness of TNT membranes can be controlled, which shows significant influence on the UV-Vis reflectance and absorption abilities of TNT-based photoelectrodes and further influence photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) of DSSCs about 6.21 % can be obtained by using TNT membranes prepared with anodic oxidation of 3 h. For further improving photovoltaic performance of DSSCs, TiO2 quantum dot (QDs) blocking layers are inserted between conductive glasses and TNT membranes in the photoelectrodes, which show remarkable effects. The highest PCE of DSSCs with this kind of blocking layers can increase to 8.43 %, producing 35.75 % enhancement compared with that of the counterparts without TiO2 QD blocking layers.  相似文献

A novel polymer gel electrolyte was used to improve the performance and long-term stability in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The polymer gel electrolyte (PGE) was prepared by mixing 5 wt% poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) and 2 % TiO2 nanoparticles. The conductivity of PGE with P25 reached 9.98 × 10?3 S/cm, which increased by 34.9 % compared with 7.40 × 10?3 S/cm of PGE without P25, and the diffusion coefficient was also increased by 19.0 %. Different photoelectrodes were obtained by using three kinds of surfactants (cetylamine, octadecylamine, and P123) as pore-forming materials, and their morphologies were contrasted through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that gel electrolyte can increase the short-circuit current density (J sc) from 11.01 to 12.99 mA/cm2 in DSSCs. Moreover, unlike the liquid electrolyte, the gel electrolyte is more conducive to the TiO2 photoelectrodes with larger pores. In conclusion, the efficiency of DSSC with gel electrolyte and P123 as pore-forming material was 6.73 %, which was 12 % higher than the liquid electrolyte in the same test condition. In addition, the sealed gel electrolyte DSSCs showed better stability than did liquid electrolyte DSSCs during nearly 600 h.  相似文献

The obstacle to realize the large-scale production of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is its long-term stability and reliability problem. One of the main causes of the instability of DSSCs is the use of liquid electrolytes. In addition, exploring nano-sized particles of CdS as an alternative sensitizer for organic dye in dye-sensitized solar cells have attracted great interest due to the high cost and the instability of the organic dye. Our study has found that the CdS-coated TiO2 cell degrades rapidly in the liquid electrolytes even under dark environment. In this work, a solid-state solar cell structure of Glass/FTO/TiO2/CdS:Cu/FTO/glass was successfully made with an efficiency of 0.7%. CdS:Cu served as both the p-type conductor and absorber. No efficiency was obtained for cell structures of glass/FTO/TiO2/CdS/FTO/glass. This indicates the effectiveness of hole conducting behavior of CdS:Cu. This is the first time that this type of solid-state solar cell is reported and improved stability is demonstrated.  相似文献

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have established themselves as an alternative to conventional solar cells owing to their remarkably high power conversion efficiency, longtime stability and low-cost production. DSSCs composed of a dyed oxide semiconductor photoanode, a redox electrolyte and a counter electrode. In these devices, conversion efficiency is achieved by ultra-fast injection of an electron from a photo excited dye into the conduction band of metal oxide followed by subsequent dye regeneration and holes transportation to the counter electrode. The energy conversion efficiency of DSSC is to be dependent on the morphology and structure of the dye adsorbed metal oxide photoanode. Worldwide considerable efforts of DSSCs have been invested in morphology control of photoanode film, synthesis of stable optical sensitizers and improved ionic conductivity electrolytes. In the present investigation, a new composite nano structured photoanodes were prepared using TiO2 nano tubes (TNTs) with TiO2 nano particles (TNPs). TNPs were synthesized by sol–gel method and TNTs were prepared through an alkali hydrothermal transformation. Working photoanodes were prepared using five pastes of TNTs concentrations of 0, 10, 50, 90, and 100 % with TNPs. The DSSCs were fabricated using Indigo carmine dye as photo sensitizer and PMII (1-propyl-3-methylimmidazolium iodide) ionic liquid as electrolyte. The counter electrode was prepared using Copper sulfide. The structure and morphology of TNPs and TNTs were characterized by X-ray diffraction and electron microscopes (TEM and SEM). The photocurrent efficiency is measured using a solar simulator (100 mW/cm2). The prepared composite TNTs/TNPs photoanode could significantly improve the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells owing to its synergic effects, i.e. effective dye adsorption mainly originated from TiO2 nanoparticles and rapid electron transport in one-dimensional TiO2 nanotubes. The results of the present investigation suggested that the DSSC based on 10 % TNTs/TNPs showed better photovoltaic performance than cell made pure TiO2 nanoparticles. The highest energy-conversion efficiency of 2.80 % is achieved by composite TNTs (10 %)/TNPs film, which is 68 % higher than that pure TNPs film and far larger than that formed by bare TNTs film (94 %). The charge transport and charge recombination behaviors of DSSCs were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectra and the results showed that composite TNTs/TNPs film-based cell possessed the lowest transfer resistances and the longest electron lifetime. Hence, it could be concluded that the composite TNTs/TNPs photoanodes facilitate the charge transport and enhancing the efficiencies of DSSCs.  相似文献

We present a simple sol-gel hydrothermal process for the fabrication of a double-layered structure composed of a TiO2 nanorod overlayer and TiO2 nanoparticle-embedded ZnO nanoflower (ZNFs@TNPs-TNRs) underlayer. The ZNFs@TNPs-TNRs was used as a photoanode in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and their photovoltaic performance was analyzed. The ZNFs@TNPs-TNRs can enhance the adsorption of N719 dyes, charge transport, and light scattering. The cell performances can be maximized by optimizing thickness ratio and total thickness of the double-layered photoanode, and the preliminary results demonstrate that a promising power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.01% is determined on the DSSC with ZNFs@TNPs-TNRs anode, yielding a 28.9% enhancement in the PCE in comparison to pristine TiO2–P25 nanoparticle-based DSSC.  相似文献

With urea as nitrogen source, N-doped TiO2 powders were synthesized and fabricated for low-temperature dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by the method of doctor-blade, and the highest temperature of the whole process was 120 °C. SEM, TEM, XRD, DRS, and XPS were used to analyze the microstructure of the N-doped TiO2 powders. EIS, Bode plot, UV–Vis and IV were employed to measure the photovoltaic performance of the DSSCs. The maximum photoelectric conversion efficiency (η) was 5.18 % when the amount of the doped nitrogen was 4 %, and, when compared with the η of 4.22 % for pure TiO2, the short circuit current was increased by 22.2 % and the efficiency was increased by 22.7 %. It has been shown that the doped nitrogen could effectively suppress TiO2 crystal phase transition from anatase to rutile, and decrease the size of particles. Therefore, the increased photoelectric conversion efficiency of the N-doped TiO2-based DSSC was ascribed to the more suitable crystal phase, sizes and inner structure.  相似文献

A TiO2 film was modified by adding light scattering particles and applied to an anode electrode in solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The TiO2 films with 10 wt% (vs. TiO2 weight) light scattering particles showed enhanced performance (28%), compared with nanocrystalline TiO2 films, which were used as the controls. In particular, the photocurrent density (Jsc) reached approximately 12.6 mA/cm2 under a one-sun condition. This was attributed to the light scattering effect and decrease in internal resistance through the macroporous structure with a minor loss of electron transport. However, in the case of a larger concentration of light scattering particles (>10 wt%), there was a decrease in the efficiency of DSSCs, which resulted from the decreased surface area and degraded electron transport and charge recombination properties, as confirmed by the measurement of stepped light-induced photocurrent and photovoltage transients. Furthermore, the diffusion properties and kinetics of the composite polymer electrolyte with the nanoporous and macroporous TiO2 films were compared and evaluated from the electrochemical impedance spectra.  相似文献

Summary Titania-based photocatalytic materials were prepared by sol-gel method using Fe3+ and polyethyleneglycol (PEG600) as additives. Thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and evolved gas analysis (EGA) with MS detection were used to elucidate processes that take place during heating of Fe3+ containing titania gels. The microstructure development of the Fe2O3/TiO2 gel samples with and without PEG600 admixtures was characterized by emanation thermal analysis (ETA) under in situ heating in air. A mathematical model was used for the evaluation of ETA results. Surface area and porosity measurements of the samples dried at 120°C and the samples preheated for 1 h to 300 and 500°C were compared. From the XRD measurements it was confirmed that the crystallization of anatase took place after thermal heating up to 600°C.  相似文献

The inverse‐micellar preparation of Si nanoparticles (Nps) was improved by utilizing sodium naphthalide. The Si Nps were subsequently functionalized with 4‐vinylbenzoic acid for their attachment onto TiO2 films of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The average diameter of the COOH‐functionalized Si (Si? COOH) Nps was 4.6(±1.7) nm. Depth profiling by secondary‐ion mass spectrometry revealed that the Si Nps were uniformly attached onto the TiO2 films. The number of RuII dye molecules adsorbed onto a TiO2 film that was treated with the Si? COOH Nps was 42 % higher than that on the untreated TiO2 film. As a result, DSSCs that incorporated the Si? COOH Nps exhibited higher short‐circuit photocurrent density and an overall energy‐conversion efficiency than the untreated DSSCs by 22 % and 27 %, respectively. This enhanced performance, mostly owing to the intramolecular charge‐transfer to TiO2 from the dye molecules that were anchored to the Si? COOH Nps, was confirmed by comparing the performance with two different RuII–bipyridine dyes (N719 and N749).  相似文献

Nanocrystalline Fe-doped TiO2 powders were prepared using TiOSO4, urea, and Fe(NO3)3 · 9H2O as precursors through a hydrothermal method. The as-synthesized yellowish-colored powders are composed of anatase TiO2, identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The grain size ranged from 9.7 to 12.1 nm, calculated by Scherrer’s method. The specific surface area ranged from 141 to 170 m2/g, obtained by the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrograph of the sample shows that the diameter of the grains is uniformly distributed at about 10 nm, which is consistent with that calculated by Scherrer’s method. Fe3+ and Fe2+ have been detected on the surface of TiO2 powders by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The UV–Vis diffuse reflection spectra indicate that the light absorption thresholds of the Fe-doped TiO2 powders have been red-shifted into the visible light region. The photocatalytic activity of the Fe-doped TiO2 was evaluated through the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The Fe-doped TiO2 powders have shown good visible-light photocatalytic activities and the maximum degradation ratio is achieved within 4.5 h.  相似文献

TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) were successfully synthesized from different alkaline media (i.e., NaOH and KOH) by using a microwave hydrothermal process. The effects of different alkaline media on the formation of TiO2 nanotubes and their physicochemical properties were investigated. The phases of different TiO2 nanostructures were studied by using X-ray diffraction patterns. Morphologies of the nanostructures were observed with a transmission electron microscope. The optical properties of the nanostructures were evaluated through the absorption behavior using UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of the TiO2 nanostructures were evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue aqueous dye solution under the simulated solar light irradiation. Similarly, the photovoltaic efficiencies of the prepared samples were investigated by making photo-anode layers in the Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs). The results revealed that in comparison to the single layered TiO2 nanostructures in the DSSC, creation of a double layer structure significantly enhanced the efficiency of DSSC.  相似文献

TiO2 has been widely utilized for various industrial applications such as photochemical cells, photocatalysts, and electrochromic devices. The crystallinity and morphology of TiO2 films play a significant role in determining the overall efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In this study, the preparation of nanostructured TiO2 films by electron beam irradiation and their characterization were investigated for the application of DSSCs. TiO2 films were exposed to 20–100 kGy of electron beam irradiation using 1.14 MeV energy acceleration with a 7.46 mA beam current and 10 kGy/pass dose rates. These samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. After irradiation, each TiO2 film was tested as a DSSC. At low doses of electron beam irradiation (20 kGy), the energy conversion efficiency of the film was approximately 4.0% under illumination of simulated sunlight with AM 1.5 G (100 mW/cm2). We found that electron beam irradiation resulted in surface modification of the TiO2 films, which could explain the observed increase in the conversion efficiency in irradiated versus non-irradiated films.  相似文献

Ti3+ and carbon co-doped TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared hydrothermally to introduce the carbon, and followed by simple vacuum activation to achieve the Ti3+ self-doping. The prepared co-doped photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, TEM, UV–Vis absorption spectra, EPR, and XPS. It was found that the co-doped TiO2 has dispersed nanoparticles and a narrower band-gap compared with the un-doped TiO2 and single-doped TiO2. The experimental results displayed that the coke carbon generated on the surface of co-doped TiO2 acts as a photosensitizer and has the photosensitization effect under solar light irradiation. Except for the carbon sensitization effect, the Ti3+ self-doping modification has a synergistic effect which is the reason for the effective photo-degradation of methyl orange under simulated solar light irradiation.  相似文献

In this paper, by introducing [1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-c]pyridine (PT) as an auxiliary acceptor into the molecular design of organic sensitizers, we have synthesized four new dyes (PT1PT4) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with triphenylamine or N,N-diphenylthiophen-2-amine as the donor units and thiophene or benzene as the π-bridges, respectively. All the structures, optical and electrochemical properties were fully characterized. Nanocrystalline TiO2 dye-sensitized solar cells were also fabricated using these dyes. Among them, PT2-based DSSCs showed the highest overall conversion efficiency of 6.11% with Voc=668 mV, Jsc=12.61 mA cm−2 and a fill factor (FF)=0.74 after a chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) treatment under standard illumination condition (100 mW cm−2 simulated AM 1.5 solar light).  相似文献

Nanocrystalline TiO2 powders in the anatase, rutile, and mixed phases prepared by hydrolysis of TiCl4 solution were of ultrafine size (<7.2 nm) with high specific surface areas in the range 167 to 388 m2/g. In the photocatalytic degradation of phenol as model reaction, the photocatalytic properties of TiO2 nanoparticles were evaluated by use of UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and total organic carbon (TOC) content. The synthetic mixed-phase TiO2 powder calcined at 400 °C had higher activity than pure anatase or rutile; it degraded more than 90% phenol to CO2 (evaluated by TOC) after irradiation with near UV light for 90 min at a catalyst loading of 0.4 g/L. The TOC results indicated that rutile TiO2 crystallites of particle size 7.2 nm resulted in much better photocatalytic performance than particles of larger size. This result suggested that some intermediates, not determined by UV–vis absorption spectroscopy, existed in the solution after the photocatalytic process over the rutile TiO2 photocatalysts of larger crystallite size.  相似文献

Mesoporous TiO2microsphere(MTM)was synthesized via a simple solution route and then mixed with commercial TiO2(P25)to form highly homogeneous and stable TiO2colloid by simple hydrothermal treatment. The TiO2colloid was coated onto the plastic conductive substrate to prepare mesoporous TiO2film for flexible dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs)by low-temperature heat treatment. The influence of MTM content on the physicochemical properties of the flexible TiO2film was characterized by scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer,N2adsorption-desorption isotherms,UV–vis absorption and diffuse reflectance spectra. It is revealed that with increasing the MTM content, the dye-loading capability of TiO2film and light-harvesting efficiency of flexible DSSCs are improved due to MTM having high surface area and acting as a light scattering center, respectively, resulting in the enhancement of photocurrent of flexible DSSCs.However, more and larger cracks having negative effect on the performances of flexible DSSCs are formed simultaneously.Under the optimal condition with MTM content of 20%,a flexible DSSC with overall light-to-electric energy conversion efficiency of 2.74%is achieved under a simulated solar light irradiation of 100 mW cm 2(AM 1.5),with 26%improvement in comparison with DSSCs based on P25 alone.  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 nanorods with large specific surface areas and high crystallinity have been synthesized by surfactant‐free hydrothermal treatment of water‐soluble peroxotitanium acid (PTA). X‐ray diffraction and TEM analysis showed that all TiO2 nanorods derived from PTA in different hydrothermal processes were in the anatase phase, and high aspect ratio TiO2 nanorods with chain‐shaped structures were formed at 150 °C for 24 h by oriented growth. The nanorods were fabricated as photoanodes for high‐efficiency dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs fabricated from the chain‐shaped TiO2 nanorods gave a highest short‐circuit current density of 14.8 mA cm?2 and a maximum energy conversion efficiency of 7.28 %, as a result of the presence of far fewer surface defects and grain boundaries than are present in commercial P25 TiO2 nanoparticles. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy also confirmed that DSSCs based on the TiO2 nanorods have enhanced electron transport properties and a long electron lifetime.  相似文献

In this work, various TiO2 and TiO2 doped with 0.1, 1.0, and 5.0 mol% of Zn were prepared by the sol–gel method varying different hydrolysis catalysts (HNO3, OHAc, H3PO4) in order to be used as photocatalysts for environmental applications. The X-ray diffraction results showed that the different TiO2 samples have presented the anatase as main phase, However, the acid nature has played an important role in the superficial and optical properties. The N-physisortion analysis has revealed that the specific surface area of calcined TiO2 samples prepared using H3PO4, HOAc, and HNO3 was 245, 100, and 90 m2 g−1, respectively, while the spectroscopic UV analysis, the band gap energy has shifted by 3.3–3.0 eV. In order to improve the optical properties of TiO2, the last preparation was doped with different zinc concentrations. The result showed that, as the Zn concentration increase by 0.1–5.0 mol%, the surface area increased from 90 to 120 m2 g−1. Nevertheless, the E g returned from 3.0 to 3.32. The SEM analyses have not revealed important morphological changes between no doped and doped materials. The catalytic activity of the composite was studied on the photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and the activity results showed that small Zn concentrations decrease the t 1/2 in 28 min.  相似文献

Nanocrystalline porous TiO2 electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC) are modified by adding polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The result shows that large holes are formed in the TiO2 films, and the short circuit photocurrent density and photoelectric conversion efficiency of DSCs are obviously enhanced compared with those without adding the PMMA. The relationship between the photoelectric conversion efficiency and the amount of PMMA is presented. In particular, the highest conversion efficiency was obtained with TiO2 electrode films of adding 7.5 wt% PMMA, increasing the conversion efficiency by 27.5%.  相似文献
