The effects of gamma irradiation in the dose range of 1.0–20.0 Mrad on the etching and optical characteristics of Tuffak polycarbonate (C16H14O3)n nuclear track detector have been studied by using etching and UV–visible spectroscopic techniques. The bulk etch rates increase and the activation energies for bulk etching decrease with the increase in gamma dose. The optical band gaps determined from the UV–visible spectra were found to decrease with the increase in gamma dose. These results have been explained on the basis of scission of the detector due to gamma irradiation.  相似文献

The segmented gamma ray scanning system developed for the assay of plutonium present in 200?L waste drums was modified for the estimation of gram amounts of plutonium in the presence of high beta gamma activity. A multi gamma ray source of 152Eu having?~1?mCi activity was used for the determination of attenuation correction factors for high count rate drums. Dead time corrections were applied to arrive at the corrected count rates for all the gamma rays. Present study has shown that the estimation of?~1?g of 239Pu in a waste drum can be carried out in the presence of 137Cs up to an activity level of 20?mCi.  相似文献

The synergy of the micro FT-IR (Fourier Transform-Infrared) and SEM-EDX (Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray) techniques has been shown to be particularly helpful and effective for the characterization of inorganic compounds in fly ashes. The experimental data obtained by these techniques have been interpreted in comparison with those of other techniques. The presence of calcium carbonate, some sulfates, ammonium nitrate, calcium hydrogen phosphate, some chlorides, some oxides and aluminium silicates have been verified.  相似文献

We derive analytical expressions for the solid angle subtended by a right finite circular cylinder at a point source with cosine angular distribution in the case where the source direction is parallel to the cylinder axis. The wall-jet detector offers a number of advantages in applications to continuous-flow analysis such as in liquid chromatography and flow injection analysis. Among the advantages is the ability to use a simple detector design and the fact that the solution volume in the detector is not constrained. High pressure xenon ionization chamber detectors are possible alternatives to traditional thallium doped sodium iodide [NaI(Tl)] and hyperpure germanium as gamma-spectrometers in certain applications. Xenon detectors incorporating a Frisch grid exhibit energy resolutions comparable to cadmium/zinc/telluride (CZT) (e.g., 2% @ 662 keV) but with far greater sensitive volumes. The Frisch grid reduces the position dependence of the anode pulse rise-times, but it also increases the detector vibration sensitivity, anode capacitance, voltage requirements and mechanical complexity. We have been investigating the possibility of eliminating the grid electrode in high-pressure xenon detectors and preserving the high energy resolution using electronic rise-time compensation methods. A two-electrode cylindrical high pressure xenon gamma-detector coupled to time-to-amplitude conversion electronics was used to characterize the pulse rise-time of deposited gamma-photons. Time discrimination was used to characterize the pulse rise-time versus photo peak position and resolution. These data were collected to investigate the effect of pulse rise-time compensation on resolution and efficiency.  相似文献

The use of the electron-capture detector (ECD) to measure molecular electron affinities and kinetic parameters for reactions of thermal electrons is reviewed. The advances of the past decade are emphasized and include the multistate electron-capture detector model and the use of semi-empirical self-consistent field quantum mechanical calculations and half wave reduction potential values to support gas phase experimental results. A procedure for the evaluation of the adiabatic electron affinities of the main group elements and the homonuclear diatomic molecules is presented. Potential excited states are identified for the magnetron (MGN) values for quinones, thermal charge transfer (TCT) values for CS2, C6F6, SF6 and photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) values for O2, NO, nitromethane, and the nucleic acids. Literature electron affinities are then evaluated. The temperature dependence of the electron-capture detector can be calculated using values for kinetic rate constants and electron affinities to optimize response and temperature sensitivity in analytical procedures. The temperature dependence for adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine are predicted for reactions with thermal electrons. Using the recent advances, the new adiabatic electron affinities are: all in electron volts (eV), 4-F-benzaldehyde (0.57 +/- 0.05) and acetophenones (APs) 4-F-AP (0.52 +/- 0.05); 2-CF3-AP (0.79 +/- 0.05); 3-CF3-AP (0.79 +/- 0.05); 4-CF3-AP (0.89 +/- 0.05); 3-CI-AP (0.67 +/- 0.05); and 4-Cl-AP (0.64 +/- 0.05). The adiabatic electron affinities of chloro and fluorobenzenes range from 0.17 to 1.15 eV and 0.13 to 0.86 eV.  相似文献

The activity concentration of radionuclides, such as 238U, 226Ra and 40K of limestone rocks in northern Iraq was measured using gamma spectroscopy. The radionuclide activities were obtained and discussed. CR-39 nuclear track detector was used to measure the radon exhalation rates as well as the effective radium contents of these samples and are found to correspond with uranium concentration values measured by NaI(Tl) detector in the corresponding limestone rocks samples. The absorbed gamma dose rates in air due to the presence of 238U, 226Ra, 40K and cosmic ray contribution varied between 105.3 and 223.11 nGy/h. The annual effective dose of each sample has been calculated. The correlation between activities of 226Ra, 222Rn exhalation rates and 238U is explained. Results show a symmetrical distribution of activity concentrations of primordial of radionuclides in selected samples. The values of all studied radionuclides are considered to be a typical level of natural background and compared with results of similar investigations carried out else where.  相似文献

This paper describes the validation of a multi-technique analytical methodology that uses inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, α-spectrometry, and γ-spectrometry for the routine analysis of samples containing transuranic radionuclides. This methodology is capable of the determination of concentrations of both238Pu and241Pu in the presence of238U and241Am without the need for chemical separations. The relative merits of these three techniques were evaluated as they are applied in a nuclear waste material and spent nuclear fuel testing program by analytical (1) standards and (2) solutions prepared from the dissolution of glasses doped with237Np,239Pu, and241Am. The uncertainty associated with technique was within ±4% for standards and ±10% for doped nuclear waste glasses. The methodology was then used to analyze three fully radioactive waste glasses.  相似文献

Anthropogenic analogues can be used as one of the sources of information about long-term behaviour of engineered barriers, used for geological disposal of radioactive waste. The radiometric emanation method, based on the measurement of radon release from the solid samples, was used in the study of the alteration of anthropogenic glass analogues for radioactive vitrified waste. The samples were labeled at their surface by a solution containing 228Th and 224Ra,serving as source of 220Rn nuclides. The radon 220Rn nuclides were introduced in the uranium glass samples due to the recoil energy of the α-decay of 228Th and 224Ra nuclides. The man-made uranium glass samples from a locality in the Czech Republic were used. The measurement, based on the release of radon atoms from the samples, was applied to characterize the radon diffusion permeability and microstructure changes of weathered and non-weathered uranium glass samples during heat treatments. The radon diffusion characteristics and microstructure stability of the uranium glass analogue samples were evaluated by using a mathematical model.  相似文献

Some radiochemical analytical methods for the determination of important beta-radionuclides for decommissioning are presented. An analytical method is briefly described, which is used for the determination of 3H and 14C in steel and aluminum by combustion using commercial oxidizer. A leaching method was developed for the determination of 3H in the contaminated silica gel. A simple distillation method is presented for the determination of 14C in heavy water and wastewater sample. A method developed for the simultaneous determination of 3H, 14C, 36Cl, 55Fe, 63Ni, 41Ca and 129I in concrete, graphite, aluminium, lead, and steel is presented. The developed methods have been successfully used to analyse various materials for characterization of the waste during the decommissioning of Danish nuclear reactors.  相似文献

As part of an experimental validation of a nuclear forensics methodology for Pu source reactor-type discrimination, destructive analysis has been performed on two irradiated UO2 pellets with different irradiation histories. Analysis has focused on measuring key Sm fission product isotope ratios used in a previously published maximum likelihood methodology to determine the most likely irradiation history of the pellets. A total of 21 Sm isotope ratios were measured within the irradiated pellets, and generally agreed within 20% of the irradiations as simulated using the Monte Carlo Radiation Transport and material depletion code, MCNP6. Results indicate the chosen approach can accurately measure the isotope ratios within 5% experimental error.

Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) are present in the environment and can be concentrated by technical activities, particularly those involving natural resources. These NORM deposits are highly stable and very insoluble under environmental conditions at the earth's surface. However reducing or oxidant conditions or pH changes may enable a fraction of naturally occurring radionuclides to eventually be released to the environment. In this paper the analytical methods to determine the chemical and radiochemical composition of a solid waste generated in an acid phosphoric production plant was shown. The sample, analysed by gamma spectrometry and radiochemical methods, contained 210Pb and 210Po and a high activity concentration of uranium isotopes but it shows a very low quantity of 226Ra. Also a sequential extraction method consisting of five operationally-defined fractions was used to evaluate the leachability of uranium isotopes, 210Pb and 210Po. The average leaching potential observed in the sample is 97.6% for 238U, 93.2% for 210Pb and 82.4% for 210Po. Moreover the results show that 210Pb and 210Po are leachable under only extreme conditions, whereas uranium is very more soluble.  相似文献

Characterization of PEGs with average molecular masses of up to 2000 has been achieved using MEKC with UV detection. A rapid derivatization procedure with phenyl isocyanate using microwave radiation, in order to introduce chromophore groups in PEGs, has been developed involving a reaction time of 60 s. Different optimized conditions in accordance with the molecular weight have been studied to obtain the oligomer separation. The weight‐average molecular mass the number‐average molecular mass and the degree of polydispersity (molecular mass distribution) were calculated for the different PEGs obtaining similar results with those certified for standards. A good precision was obtained for characterizing the different oligomers. Ethylene glycol was used as the internal standard for the analysis of low‐molecular‐weight PEGs. The developed method was satisfactorily applied to the characterization of these polymers in several real samples, such as lubricant eye drops, toothpaste, tap water and eye make‐up remover.  相似文献

In the present study, different procedures are followed to deduce the semi-empirical and the empirical K X-rayX-ray production cross sections induced by alpha ions from the available experimental data and the theoretical results of the ECPSSR model for elements with 20≤Z≤30. The deduced K X-ray production cross sections are compared with predictions from ECPSSR model and with other earlier works. Generally, the deduced K X-ray production cross sections obtained by fitting the available experimental data for each element separately give the most reliable values than those obtained by a global fit.  相似文献

Tables of nuclear data were compiled for the purpose of routine gamma (photon) activation analysis. The tables are arranged in two parts. The first one lists the readionuclides in order of their atomic number. In the second one, the emitted gamma-ray photons are tabulated in order of increasing energy. Tables contain the gamma emitters produced by the following photonuclear reactions: (γ, γ), (γ, n), (γ, p), (γ, p+n), (γ, 2n), (γ, 3n), (γ, 4n), (γ, 2p), (γ, α), (γ, α+n), (γ, α+p). This set corresponds to the maximum energy of the bremsstrahlung of roughly 45 MeV. The program for output of the tabulated data is made such that it is possible to reduce the data as required for specific irradiation and measuring conditions (reaction thresholds, energy and intensity of gamma-rays, half-lives and target elements).  相似文献
