Summary The International Atomic Energy Agency has been providing analytical quality control services (AQCS) to its Member States since the 1960's. The AQCS programme distributes reference materials (RMs), organizes intercomparison runs, and provides training courses for quality assurance in chemical analysis and radioactivity measurements of food, biological, environmental and marine materials. This paper focusses on those aspects of the subject dealing with reference materials and intercomparison runs for the determination of radionuclides. Nineteen natural matrix reference materials are available for the determination of radionuclides. Twelve new intercomparison and reference materials are in preparation or under consideration. The radionuclides of interest include: K-40, Mn-54, Co-60, Sr-90, Tc-99, Ru-106, Ba-133, Cs-134, Cs-137, Pb-210, Ra-226, Th-228, Th-232, Pu-238, Pu-239+240.  相似文献

The IAEA's Marine Environment Laboratory has been assisting laboratories in Analytical Quality Control Services (AQCS) for the analysis of radionuclides in the marine environment since the early seventies. AQCS through world-wide and regional intercomparison exercises and the provision of reference methods and reference materials (RM) have been recognized as an important component of quality assurance/quality control. A total of 43 intercomparison exercises were organized and 37 RM were produced for marine radioactivity studies. All important marine matrices were covered, e.g., seawater, marine sediments of different chemical compositions, fish, shellfish and seaplants. RM were prepared from samples collected at contaminated sites (e.g., the Irish Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Arabian Sea, Mururoa and Bikini Atolls, etc.) as well as from sites affected only by global fallout (e.g., the Pacific Ocean). Available RM are listed in the IAEA biennial catalogue and can be purchased at a minimal price. An overview of prepared RM for radionuclides in marine matrices is presented and discussed in more detail.  相似文献

The International Atomic Energy Agency maintains a database of internationally available certified reference materials (CRM) of natural matrices. This database is periodically updated, and presently documents nearly 25,000 measurands in 1700 materials. The organic constituents are classified in five major groups of analytes – aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons (A), chlorinated hydrocarbons (B), pesticides (C), organometallic compounds (D) and other organic constituents (nutrients, etc.) (E). The matrices include natural materials such as body fluids, food products, soils, and sediments, terrestrial (e.g. plants), and anthropogenic products (e.g. dust, fly ash). These five organic groups of analytes encompass more than 2000 measurands for 420 different analytes in 230 materials. Of these measurands, 1682 (68%) are certified, and 768 (32%) are provided as informational values. Within each major group of analytes, measurands reported as informational values accounted for: A (35%); B (35%); C (26%); D (10%), and E (22%). The high proportion of informational values (i.e. non-certified values) for A, B, and C, compares well with a similar but undesirable situation faced in the nineteen-seventies in the inorganic area when simultaneous multielement techniques became available. In the case of D and E, it appears that mostly targeted analytes are measured, leading to a cohesive certification profile. Although the IAEA database is not equally comprehensive for all groups of analytes cited above, it can still serve as an useful indicator of the status of organic constituents in RMs.  相似文献

COMAR is the international database for certified reference materials. A new user-friendly web-based version, COMAR2, has been developed by BAM and CONET Consulting AG which will be available in December 2002. Particle size distributions in fifteen International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and sixteen National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) reference materials (RMs) were measured with the basic aim to investigate the potential of these materials to be used as reference or quality control materials in analyses where a small sample mass is required (< 100 mg). Most of the investigated materials are commercially available environmental or biological natural matrix RMs with certified values for trace elements, radionuclides, or organometallic compounds. The laser diffraction technique was used in all measurements. From the point of particle size distribution, materials IAEA-390 (Algae, a set of three materials), IAEA-396m (Urban Dust, 3x air jet milled), NIST-SRM 1515 (Apple Leaves), NIST-SRM 1547 (Peach Leaves), NIST-SRM 1566a (Oyster Tissue), NIST-SRM 1570a (Spinach), NIST-SRM 1573a (Tomato Leaves), and NIST-SRM 1648 (Urban Particulate) can be considered appropriate for small sample mass analysis. However, additional analytical tests are needed to confirm the appropriate homogeneous distribution of chemical composition, the level of heterogeneity for individual elements, at this sample mass level.  相似文献

 In the field of reference materials, COMAR (Code d'Indexation des Matériaux de Référence) is now internationally known as a reliable directory. In order to improve the quality of COMAR, a document which covers general requirements for the registration of reference material has recently been adopted by the Japanese coding centre, NITE. This paper describes the general requirements for reference materials and the current status of the COMAR database coded by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE), Japan. The concept of the requirements is fundamentally based on the ISO Guides 30, 31, 33, 34 and 35. Certifications of reference materials are divided into the following three categories in the newly adopted document. 1. Certifications based on the results of interlaboratory comparisons 2. Certifications in accordance with the Measurement Law 3. Certifications in accordance with the measurement results of national institutions An example of an uncertainty evaluation is also presented in the paper. The IAEA laboratories have access to both nuclear analytical methods and conventional instrumental methods for trace analysis for the characterisation of its environmental and biological reference materials. A technical concept integrating the homogeneity data, the recommended test portion mass and the uncertainty on the trace element concentrations is explored using a combination of INAA, XRF, ICP-MS, ICP-AES, and AAS. The above approach is illustrated by selected examples of reference materials currently under evaluation for their trace element content. They include some or all of the following elements Al, As, Br, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, Pb, Rb, Se, Sr, Th, U, Zn in environmental biomonitor organisms (lichen, algae) and air dust filters.  相似文献

Radiation processing offers a clean and additive-free method for preparation of value-added novel materials based on renewable, non-toxic, and biodegradable natural polymers. Crosslinked natural polymers can be used as hydrogel wound dressings, face cleaning cosmetic masks, adsorbents of toxins, and non-bedsore mats; while low molecular weight products show antibiotic, antioxidant, and plant-growth promoting properties. Recognizing the potential benefits that radiation technology can offer for processing of natural polymers into useful products, the IAEA implemented a coordinated research project (CRP) on “Development of Radiation-processed products of Natural Polymers for application in Agriculture, Healthcare, Industry and Environment”. This CRP was launched at the end of 2007 with participation of 16 MS to help connecting radiation technology and end-users to derive enhanced benefits from these new value-added products of radiation-processed natural materials. In this paper the results of activities in participating MS related to this work will be presented.  相似文献

Summary A Group of Experts on Standards and Reference Materials (GESREM) has been established by international agencies to improve the availability of standards and reference materials to marine scientists throughout the world. It functions by bringing together the users of such materials with their producers to discuss priorities and to seek resources to meet them. The GESREM has stimulated the production of a global catalog of available reference materials and has defined future actions to promote the availability and proper use of reference materials.  相似文献

The concentration of99Tc in IAEA reference materials has been determined with an ICP-MS as 0.86±0.07 Bq·kg−1 dry for IAEA-373 (grass) and 0.25±0.02 Bq·kg−1 dry for IAEA-375 (soil). These being sufficiently higher than the detection limits of typical measurement methods, both materials can be used as reference materials for determining low-level99Tc in environmental samples.  相似文献

IAEA and NBS biological certified reference materials have been analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis and concentration of 17 elements was determined. The elements determined were either completely missing or their certified values were not given in the original compilations. For quality assurance of our work, a comparison of data on missing trace elements in some of the CRMs has been presented. It seems that second round of analysis for the certification of these elements would be useful.  相似文献

This paper describes the COMAR database for certified reference materials (CRMs). The Web-based version of COMAR is freely accessible via the Internet. COMAR was established to assist laboratories in finding the CRMs needed. The database is maintained in a collaboration of the world’s major CRM producers. The planned changes in the database as agreed at the last COMAR council meeting in Prague in May 2006 are indicated.

Fifty air filters with fine and coarse fractions were prepared from NIST 2710 contaminated soil. Eighteen pairs were made and sent to laboratories of the Coordinated Research Program (CRP) on Applied Research on Air Pollution Using Nuclear-Related Analytical Techniques for elemental determination.
