Summary Let be the difference of a pair of adjacent eigen-values of the differential equation (1) for the spheroidal functions. Until now only the two first terms of the asymptotic expansion (2) of for large *2=–2 had been known. In this note the next term, i. e. the coefficient of *–2, is given, and the way of calculating it is described.

Riassunto I metodi di calcolo presentati daPitts et al. [1] vengono estesi, previa considerazione dei vortici della fusoliera secondoAllen ePerkins [2] e del loro effetto sulle superfici portanti, ad angoli di attacco di media grandezza e applicati ad una serie di razzi in regime supersonico. Il confronto dei risultati teorici con le corrispondenti misurazioni in soffieria mostra che il punto di attacco della forza normale risultante non può essere calcolato con soddisfacente precisione se la fusoliera si estende per un lungo tratto dietro le superfici portanti. Ricerche condotte dall'autore indicano in base ai risultati finora ottenuti, che il calcolo di combinazioni fusoliera-ali può esser migliorato con mezzi relativamente semplici. Una pubblicazione completa è in preparazione.

Summary A mathematical theory of milling processes is developed by deriving and solving a partial integro-differential equation which describes the time-dependent particle size distribution of the milling charge. This basic equation contains a characteristic function of both the mill and the material milled, which is conveniently determined from measurements conducted in accordance with an approximation derived for this purpose from the general theory. This approximation, which can as well be used independently is equally convenient for obtaining experimental evidence of the validity of the general theory. It has been established in a previous paper that this approximation is in agreement with results obtained by experiments.Several approximate solutions of the basic equation as well as the rigorous one are worked out and an analysis of the semi-empirical Rosin-Rammler formula is given from the point of view of the present theory.  相似文献
