Summary An application in robotics motivates us to characterize the evolution of a subset in state space due to a compact neighborhood of an arbitrary dynamical system—an instance of a differential inclusion. Earlier results of Blagodat·skikh and Filippov (1986) and Butkovskii (1982) characterize the boundary of theattainable set and theforward projection operator of a state. Our first result is a local characterization of the boundary of the forward projection ofa compact regular subset of the state space. Let the collection of states such that the differential inclusion contains an equilibrium point be called asingular invariant set. We show that the fields at the boundary of the forward projection of a singular invariant set are degenerate under some regularity assumptions when the state-wise boundary of the differential inclusion is smooth. Consider instead those differential inclusions such that the state-wise boundary of the problem is a regular convex polytope—a piecewise smooth boundary rather than smooth. Our second result gives conditions for theuniqueness andexistence of the boundary of the forward projection of a singular invariant set. They characterize the bundle of unstable and stable manifolds of such a differential inclusion.  相似文献

For a second-order nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE), a singular Boundary value problem (BVP) is investigated which arises in hydromechanics and nonlinear field theory when static centrally symmetric bubble-type (droplet-type) solutions are sought. The equation, defined on a semi-infinite interval 0 < r < ∞, possesses a regular singular point as r→ 0 and an irregular one as r→ ∞. We give the restrictions to the parameters for a correct mathematical statement of the limit boundary conditions in singular points and their accurate transfer into the neighborhoods of these points using certain results for singular Cauchy problems and stable initial manifolds. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of bubble-type (droplet-type) solutions are discussed (in the form of additional restrictions to the parameters) and some estimates are obtained. A priori detailed analysis of a singular nonlinear BVP leads to efficient shooting methods for solving it approximately. Some results of the numerical experiments are displayed and their physical interpretation is discussed. This article was submitted by the author in English.  相似文献

In this paper we establish the well posedness of the Cauchy problem associated to transport equations with singular cross‐sections (i.e. unbounded collisions frequencies and unbounded collision operators) in L1 spaces for specular reflecting boundary conditions. In addition, we discuss the weak compactness of the second‐order remainder term of the Dyson–Phillips expansion. This allows us to estimate the essential type of the transport semigroup from which the asymptotic behaviour of the solution is derived. The case of singular transport equations with periodic boundary conditions is also discussed. The proofs make use of the Miyadera perturbation theory of positive semigroups on AL‐spaces. In this work we present a singular function boundary integral method for elliptic problems with boundary singularities. In this method, the approximation is constructed from the truncated asymptotic expansion for the solution near the singular point and the Dirichlet boundary conditions are weakly enforced by means of Lagrange multiplier functions. The resulting discrete problem is posed and solved on the boundary of the domain, away from the point of singularity. We are able to show that the method approximates the generalized stress intensity factors, i.e. the coe cients in the asymptotic expansion, at an exponential rate. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We consider an injection of incompressible viscous fluid in a curved pipe with a smooth central curve γ . The one-dimensional model is obtained via singular perturbation of the Navier—Stokes system as ɛ , the ratio between the cross-section area and the length of the pipe, tends to zero. An asymptotic expansion of the flow in powers of ɛ is computed. The first term in the expansion depends only on the tangential injection along the central curve γ of the pipe and the velocity as well as the pressure drop are in the tangential direction. The second term contains the effects of the curvature (flexion) of γ in the direction of the tangent while the effects of torsion appear in the direction of the normal and the binormal to γ . The boundary layers at the ends of the pipe are studied. The error estimate is proved. Accepted 21 March 2001. Online publication 9 August 2001.  相似文献

We derive asymptotics for the quenched probability that a critical branching Brownian motion killed at a small rate ε in Poissonian obstacles exits from a large domain. Results are formulated in terms of the solution to a semilinear partial differential equation with singular boundary conditions. The proofs depend on a quenched homogenization theorem for branching Brownian motion among soft obstacles.  相似文献

By using fixed-point index theory and a new fixed-point theorem in cones, some sufficient conditions for the existence of countably many positive solutions for singular third-order boundary value problem on the half-line are established, which are the complement of previously known results. The interesting point lies in the fact that the nonlinear term is allowed to depend on the first order derivative u′.  相似文献

In this article, we analyze the singular function boundary integral method (SFBIM) for a two‐dimensional biharmonic problem with one boundary singularity, as a model for the Newtonian stick‐slip flow problem. In the SFBIM, the leading terms of the local asymptotic solution expansion near the singular point are used to approximate the solution, and the Dirichlet boundary conditions are weakly enforced by means of Lagrange multiplier functions. By means of Green's theorem, the resulting discretized equations are posed and solved on the boundary of the domain, away from the point where the singularity arises. We analyze the convergence of the method and prove that the coefficients in the local asymptotic expansion, also referred to as stress intensity factors, are approximated at an exponential rate as the number of the employed expansion terms is increased. Our theoretical results are illustrated through a numerical experiment. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

In this paper we are interested in pointwise regularity of solutions to elliptic equations. In a first result, we prove that if the modulus of mean oscillation of Δu at the origin is Dini (in L p average), then the origin is a Lebesgue point of continuity (still in L p average) for the second derivatives D 2 u. We extend this pointwise regularity result to the obstacle problem for the Laplace equation with Dini right hand side at the origin. Under these assumptions, we prove that the solution to the obstacle problem has a Taylor expansion up to the order 2 (in the L p average). Moreover we get a quantitative estimate of the error in this Taylor expansion for regular points of the free boundary. In the case where the right hand side is moreover double Dini at the origin, we also get a quantitative estimate of the error for singular points of the free boundary. Our method of proof is based on some decay estimates obtained by contradiction, using blow-up arguments and Liouville Theorems. In the case of singular points, our method uses moreover a refined monotonicity formula.   相似文献

In the study of differential equations on [ − 1,1] subject to linear homogeneous boundary conditions of finite order, it is often expedient to represent the solution in a Galerkin expansion, that is, as a sum of basis functions, each of which satisfies the given boundary conditions. In order that the functions be maximally distinct, one can use the Gram-Schmidt method to generate a set orthogonal with respect to a particular weight function. Here we consider all such sets associated with the Jacobi weight function, w(x) = (1 − x) α (1 + x) β . However, this procedure is not only cumbersome for sets of large degree, but does not provide any intrinsic means to characterize the functions that result. We show here that each basis function can be written as the sum of a small number of Jacobi polynomials, whose coefficients are found by imposing the boundary conditions and orthogonality to the first few basis functions only. That orthogonality of the entire set follows—a property we term “auto-orthogonality”—is remarkable. Additionally, these basis functions are shown to behave asymptotically like individual Jacobi polynomials and share many of the latter’s useful properties. Of particular note is that these basis sets retain the exponential convergence characteristic of Jacobi expansions for expansion of an arbitrary function satisfying the boundary conditions imposed. Further, the associated error is asymptotically minimized in an L p(α) norm given the appropriate choice of α = β. The rich algebraic structure underlying these properties remains partially obscured by the rather difficult form of the non-standard weighted integrals of Jacobi polynomials upon which our analysis rests. Nevertheless, we are able to prove most of these results in specific cases and certain of the results in the general case. However a proof that such expansions can satisfy linear boundary conditions of arbitrary order and form appears extremely difficult.  相似文献

Let Ω be a bounded circular domain in ℂ N , let M be a submanifold in the boundary of Ω, and let H be a Hilbert space of holomorphic functions in Ω. We show that, under certain conditions stated in terms of the reproducing kernel of the space H, the restriction operator to the submanifold M is well defined for all functions from H. We apply this result to constructing a family of “singular” unitary representations of the groups SO(p,q). The singular representations arise as discrete components of the spectrum in the decomposition of irreducible unitary highest weight representations of the groups U(p,q) restricted to the subgroups SO(p,q). Another property of the singular representations is that they persist in the limit as q→∞. Bibliography: 70 titles. Translated fromZapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov POMI, Vol. 223, 1995, pp. 9–91. We consider a class of structural acoustics models with thermoelastic flexible wall. More precisely, the PDE system consists of a wave equation (within an acoustic chamber) which is coupled to a system of thermoelastic plate equations with rotational inertia; the coupling is strong as it is accomplished via boundary terms. Moreover, the system is subject to boundary thermal control. We show that—under three different sets of coupled (mechanical/thermal) boundary conditions—the overall coupled system inherits some specific regularity properties of its thermoelastic component, as it satisfies the same singular estimates recently established for the thermoelastic system alone. These regularity estimates are of central importance for (i) well-posedness of Differential and Algebraic Riccati equations arising in the associated optimal control problems, and (ii) existence of solutions to the semilinear initial/boundary value problem under nonlinear boundary conditions. The proof given uses as a critical ingredient a sharp trace theorem pertaining to second-order hyperbolic equations with Neumann boundary data.  相似文献

Summary. It is well known that any nonsingular M–matrix admits an LU factorization into M–matrices (with L and U lower and upper triangular respectively) and any singular M–matrix is permutation similar to an M–matrix which admits an LU factorization into M–matrices. Varga and Cai establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a singular M–matrix (without permutation) to allow an LU factorization with L nonsingular. We generalize these results in two directions. First, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an LU factorization of a singular M-matrix where L and U are both permitted to be singular. Second, we establish the minimal block structure that a block LU factorization of a singular M–matrix can have when L and U are M–matrices. Suppose that D is a bounded domain with a piecewise C^1 smooth boundary in C^n. Let ψ∈C^1 α(δD). By using the Hadamard principal value of the higher order singular integral and solid angle coefficient method of points on the boundary, we give the Plemelj formula of the higher order singular integral with the Boehner-Martinelli kernel, which has integral density ψ. Moreover, by means of the Plemelj formula and methods of complex partial differential equations, we discuss the corresponding Cauehy boundary value problem with the Boehner-Martinelli kernel on a closed piecewise smooth manifold and obtain its unique branch complex harmonic solution.  相似文献

We study the obstacle problem in two dimensions. On the one hand we improve a result of L.A. Caffarelli and N.M. Rivière: we state that every connected component of the interior of the coincidence set has at most N 0 singular points, where N 0 is only dependent on some geometric constants. Moreover, if the component is small enough, then this component has at most two singular points. On the other hand, we prove in a simple case a conjecture of D.G. Schaeffer on the generic regularity of the free boundary: for a family of obstacle problems in two dimensions continuously indexed by a parameter λ, the free boundary of the solution uλ is analytic for almost every λ. Finally we present a new monotonicity formula for singular points. Dedicated to Henri Berestycki and Alexis Bonnet.  相似文献

We deal with singular perturbations of nonlinear problems depending on a small parameter ε > 0. First we consider the abstract theory of singular perturbations of variational inequalities involving some nonlinear operators, defined in Banach spaces, and describe the asymptotic behavior of these solutions as ε → 0. Then these abstract results are applied to some boundary value problems. Bibliography: 15 titles.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence, multiplicity and nonexistence of positive solutions for 2p-order and 2q-order systems of singular boundary value problems with integral boundary conditions. The results are based upon the fixed-point theorem of cone expansion and compression type due to Krasnosel’skill. Moreover, it generalizes and includes some known results.  相似文献

We consider a boundary value problem for parabolic equations with nonlocal nonlinearity of such a form that favorably differs from other equations in that it leads to partial differential equations that have important properties of ordinary differential equations. Local solvability and uniqueness theorems are proved, and an analog of the Painlevé singular nonfixed points theorem is proved. In this case, there is an alternative—either a solution exists for all t ≥ 0 or it goes to infinity in a finite time t = T (blowup mode). Sufficient conditions for the existence of a blowup mode are given.  相似文献
