In many real-life situations, we know the probability distribution of two random variables x1 and x2, but we have no information about the correlation between x1 and x2; what are the possible probability distributions for the sum x1 + x2? This question was originally raised by A.N. Kolmogorov. Algorithms exist that provide best-possible bounds for the distribution of x1 + x2; these algorithms have been implemented as a part of the efficient software for handling probabilistic uncertainty. A natural question is: what if we have several (n > 2) variables with known distribution, we have no information about their correlation, and we are interested in possible probability distribution for the sum y = x1 +  + xn? Known formulas for the case n = 2 can be (and have been) extended to this case. However, as we prove in this paper, not only are these formulas not best-possible anymore, but in general, computing the best-possible bounds for arbitrary n is an NP-hard (computationally intractable) problem.  相似文献

The article presents a mathematical model of nonlinear reaction diffusion equation with fractional time derivative α (0 < α ? 1) in the form of a rapidly convergent series with easily computable components. Fractional reaction diffusion equation is used for modeling of merging travel solutions in nonlinear system for popular dynamics. The fractional derivatives are described in the Caputo sense. The anomalous behaviors of the nonlinear problems in the form of sub- and super-diffusion due to the presence of reaction term are shown graphically for different particular cases.  相似文献

The peristaltic flow of a Jeffrey fluid in a vertical porous stratum with heat transfer is studied under long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. The nonlinear governing equations are solved using perturbation technique. The expressions for velocity, temperature and the pressure rise per one wave length are determined. The effects of different parameters on the velocity, the temperature and the pumping characteristics are discussed. It is observed that the effects of the Jeffrey number λ1, the Grashof number Gr, the perturbation parameter N = EcPr, and the peristaltic wall deformation parameter ϕ are the strongest on the trapping bolus phenomenon. The results obtained for the flow and heat transfer characteristics reveal many interesting behaviors that warrant further study on the non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena. Shear-thinning reduces the wall shear stress.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the nonlinear dispersive K(m, n) equations: ut + (um)x  (un)xxx = 0 which exhibit solutions with solitary patterns. New exact solitary solutions are found. The two special cases, K(2, 2) and K(3, 3), are chosen to illustrate the concrete features of the decomposition method in K(m, n) equations. The nonlinear equations K(m, n) are studied for two different cases, namely when m = n being odd and even integers. General formulas for the solutions of K(m, n) equations are established.  相似文献

Degasperis and Procesi applied the method of asymptotic integrability and obtain Degasperis–Procesi equation. They showed that it has peakon solutions, which has a discontinuous first derivative at the wave peak, but they did not explain the reason that the peakon solution arises. In this paper, we study these non-smooth solutions of the generalized Degasperis–Procesi equation ut  utxx + (b + 1)uux = buxuxx + uuxxx, show the reason that the non-smooth travelling wave arise and investigate global dynamical behavior and obtain the parameter condition under which peakon, compacton and another travelling wave solutions engender. Under some parameter condition, this equation has infinitely many compacton solutions. Finally, we give some explicit expression of peakon and compacton solutions.  相似文献

The Hirota method for generating Hirota’s bilinear equation and constructing soliton solutions of nonlinear evolution equations is discussed and illustrated. Two Maple programs Bilinearization and Multisoliton are presented to automatically calculate Hirota’s bilinear equations for nonlinear evolution equations and to compute their N-soliton solutions for N = 1, 2 or 3, respectively. Different kinds of examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the packages.  相似文献

Duffing–Van der Pol equation with fifth nonlinear-restoring force and two external forcing terms is investigated. The threshold values of existence of chaotic motion are obtained under the periodic perturbation. By second-order averaging method and Melnikov method, we prove the criterion of existence of chaos in averaged system under quasi-periodic perturbation for ω2 = 1 + εσ, n = 1, 3, 5, and cannot prove the criterion of existence of chaos in second-order averaged system under quasi-periodic perturbation for ω2 = 1 + εσ, n = 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, where σ is not rational to ω1, but can show the occurrence of chaos in original system by numerical simulation. Numerical simulations including heteroclinic and homoclinic bifurcation surfaces, bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponent, phase portraits and Poincaré map, not only show the consistence with the theoretical analysis but also exhibit the more new complex dynamical behaviors. We show that cascades of interlocking period-doubling and reverse period-doubling bifurcations from period-2 to -4 and -6 orbits, interleaving occurrence of chaotic behaviors and quasi-periodic orbits, transient chaos with a great abundance of period windows, symmetry-breaking of periodic orbits in chaotic regions, onset of chaos which occurs more than one, chaos suddenly disappearing to period orbits, interior crisis, strange non-chaotic attractor, non-attracting chaotic set and nice chaotic attractors. Our results show many dynamical behaviors and some of them are strictly departure from the behaviors of Duffing–Van der Pol equation with a cubic nonlinear-restoring force and one external forcing.  相似文献

To interpolate function, f(x), a ? x ? b, when we have some information about the values of f(x) and their derivatives in separate points on {x0, x1,  , xn} ? [a, b], the Hermit interpolation method is usually used. Here, to solve this kind of problems, extended rational interpolation method is presented and it is shown that the suggested method is more efficient and suitable than the Hermit interpolation method, especially when the function f(x) has singular points in interval [a, b]. Also for implementing the extended rational interpolation method, the direct method and the inverse differences method are presented, and with some examples these arguments are examined numerically.  相似文献

We consider the semilinear elliptic PDE Δu + f(λ, u) = 0 with the zero-Dirichlet boundary condition on a family of regions, namely stadions. Linear problems on such regions have been widely studied in the past. We seek to observe the corresponding phenomena in our nonlinear setting. Using the Gradient Newton Galerkin Algorithm (GNGA) of Neuberger and Swift, we document bifurcation, nodal structure, and symmetry of solutions. This paper provides the first published instance where the GNGA is applied to general regions. Our investigation involves both the dimension of the stadions and the value λ as parameters. We find that the so-called crossings and avoided crossings of eigenvalues as the dimension of the stadions vary influences the symmetry and variational structure of nonlinear solutions in a natural way.  相似文献

Unsteady flow of an incompressible generalized Maxwell fluid between two coaxial circular cylinders is studied by means of the Laplace and finite Hankel transforms. The motion of the fluid is produced by the rotation of cylinders around their common axis. The solutions that have been obtained, written in integral and series form in terms of the generalized Ga,b,c(·, t)-functions, are presented as a sum of the Newtonian solutions and the corresponding non-Newtonian contributions. They satisfy all imposed initial and boundary conditions and for λ  0 reduce to the solutions corresponding to the Newtonian fluids performing the same solution. Furthermore, the corresponding solutions for ordinary Maxwell fluids are also obtained for β = 1. Finally, in order to reveal some relevant physical aspects of the obtained results, the diagrams of the velocity field ω(r, t) have been depicted against r and t for different values of the material and fractional parameters.  相似文献

For the simple linear model Y = θ1 + βx + ? where the error vector follows the elliptically contoured distribution, we consider the unrestricted, restricted, preliminary test and shrinkage estimators for the intercept parameter, θ when it is suspected that the slope parameter β may be βo. The exact bias and MSE expressions are derived and the mean-square relative efficiency is taken to determine the relative dominance properties of the proposed estimators in comparison. In the continuation, the optimal level of significance of the preliminary test estimator is tabulated and some graphical result are also displayed.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the positive definite solutions of nonlinear matrix equation X + AXδA = Q, where δ  (0, 1], which appears for the first time in [S.M. El-Sayed, A.C.M. Ran, On an iteration methods for solving a class of nonlinear matrix equations, SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 23 (2001) 632–645]. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution are derived. An iterative algorithm for obtaining the positive definite solutions of the equation is discussed. The initial-boundary-value problem on the semi-infinite interval and on a finite interval for the Burgers equation ut = uxx + 2uxu is solved using a stream function ? and a linearizing transformation w = e?. The transformation reduces the equation to a heat equation with appropriate initial and homogeneous time-dependent linear boundary conditions. In this paper, we used the concept of (L, M)-fuzzy remote neighborhood system to study and establish the convergence theory of molecular nets. Next, we introduce the Ti-axioms (i = ?1, 0, 1, 2) in (L, M)-fuzzy topological molecular lattices, and discuss some of their characterizations. Finally, we show that the Ti-axioms (i = ?1, 0, 1, 2) are preserved under homeomorphisms.  相似文献

We consider one-dimensional chain of coupled linear and nonlinear oscillators with long-range powerwise interaction defined by a term proportional to 1/∣n  mα+1. Continuous medium equation for this system can be obtained in the so-called infrared limit when the wave number tends to zero. We construct a transform operator that maps the system of large number of ordinary differential equations of motion of the particles into a partial differential equation with the Riesz fractional derivative of order α, when 0 < α < 2. Few models of coupled oscillators are considered and their synchronized states and localized structures are discussed in details. Particularly, we discuss some solutions of time-dependent fractional Ginzburg–Landau (or nonlinear Schrodinger) equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we deal with the existence and asymptotic behavior of traveling waves for nonlocal diffusion systems with delayed monostable reaction terms. We obtain the existence of traveling wave front by using upper-lower solutions method and Schauder’s fixed point theorem for c > c1(τ) and using a limiting argument for c = c1(τ). Moreover, we find a priori asymptotic behavior of traveling waves with the help of Ikehara’s Theorem by constructing a Laplace transform representation of a solution. Especially, the delay can slow the minimal wave speed for ?2f(0, 0) > 0 and the delay is independent of the minimal wave speed for ?2f(0, 0) = 0.  相似文献

Let ut  uxx = h(t) in 0  x  π, t  0. Assume that u(0, t) = v(t), u(π, t) = 0, and u(x, 0) = g(t). The problem is: what extra data determine the three unknown functions {h, v, g} uniquely?
