Exact series expressions are obtained for the longitudinal and transverse polarizabilities of a system of two conducting spheres, for arbitrary sphere radii and separation. In the important case of close approach, where the exact series converge slowly, approximate analytical expressions are obtained. These analytical expressions become more accurate as the distance between the spheres gets small compared to the sphere radii, and reduce to the known analytic values at sphere contact. 相似文献

We give exact results for the polarizabilities, longitudinal and transverse, of two parallel cylinders of the same radius. The expressions are infinite sums, which converge rapidly if the cylinders are separated by a radius or more. In close approach the sums converge slowly, but are replaced by equivalent integral expressions, which give simple analytical results in this limit. The contact values of the longitudinal and transverse polarizabilities are π2/6 and π2/12 times the large-separation values. The longitudinal contact value is approached infinitely rapidly as the separation tends to zero, while the approach of the transverse polarizability to its contact value is regular. 相似文献

Using a quasispherical, microwave cavity resonator, we measured the refractive index of helium to deduce its molar polarizability A(epsilon) in the limit of zero density. We obtained (A(epsilon,meas) - A(epsilon,theory))/A(epsilon) = (-1.8 +/- 9.1) x 10(-6), where the standard uncertainty (9.1 ppm) is a factor of 3.3 smaller than that of the best previous measurement. If the theoretical value of A(epsilon) is accepted, these data determine a value for the Boltzmann constant that is only 1.8 +/- 9.1 ppm larger than the accepted value. Our techniques will enable a helium-based pressure standard and measurements of thermodynamic temperatures. 相似文献

Gyrotropic media are anisotropic in two respects: the symmetric part of the permittivity dyadic is uniaxial, and furthermore, there is also antisymmetric part in the permittivity. We use in this paper the variational method to calculate the polarizability of a hydrogenic donor impurity, in the presence of electric field, in a V-groove GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs quantum wire. The carrier ground states are analytically obtained by an effective potential scheme together with a suitable coordinate transformation that allows the decoupling of the two-dimensional Schrodinger equation. According to the results obtained from the present work for polarizability and binding energy reveals that the impurity position and field direction play important roles. 相似文献

Permittivity measurements at a microwave frequency 24 GHz have been made on n-type EuSe at low temperatures 4.2–77 K after various annealing times. Consideration of different models for annealing dependent permittivity leads to the polarizability of Se vacancy defects as the most likely explanation. 从共轭极化出发 ,以共轭极化过程的双极态静电能的平均值与非极态静电能的差值作为共轭极化势(CPP) .用共轭极化势与共轭烯烃紫外吸收最大波长的能量相关 ,用量子化学从头计算得到的前线轨道能量与其紫外吸收最大波长的能量进行相关 ,得到前者与后者相近的结果 .进一步以有效极化效应PEI(ef)来定量烷基极化效应对共轭烯烃双极态的稳定作用 ,并以CPP和PEI(ef)两个变量与共轭烯烃紫外吸收最大波长的能量相关 ,得到具有良好预测能力的定量方程 :ν =1.174 6 +5 .0 187CPP - 0 .4 32 0 4PEI(ef) ,R =0 .9995 ,s =0 .0 4 0 3,F =10 85 3.2 8,n =2 3研究结果还表明 ,依靠增加取代基数量的方法来降低紫外吸收能量不及增加共轭链的长度有效 . 相似文献

The light scattering by three-dimensional clusters supported by a substrate is modelled by representing clusters by truncated
spheroids whose polarizability is calculated via a multipolar development of the potential in the quasi-static limit. The determination of the mean island radius, density
and aspect ratio from the optical response is examined. The strong influence of both the particle-substrate interaction and
the particle shape on the optical behaviour is demonstrated, showing the limits of effective medium and dipolar theories.
The Surface Differential Reflectance spectra of silver on MgO(100) and titanium or aluminium on α-Al2O3(0001) surfaces have then been modelled by using the above model, illustrating the capability of optical means to deal with
various metals, including those belonging to transition series. In all cases, it is highlighted that the aspect ratio is central
in modelling the optical response of supported particles.
