The influence of random mass density and velocity fields on the frequencies and amplitudes of the sound waves that propagate along a constant gravity field is examined in the limit of weak random fields, small amplitude oscillations and a weakly stratified medium. Using a perturbative method, we derive dispersion relations from which we conclude that the effect of a space-dependent random mass density field is to attenuate sound waves. Frequencies of these waves are higher than in the case of a coherent medium. A time-dependent random mass density field increases frequencies and amplifies the sounds waves. On the other hand, a space-dependent random flow reduces the wave frequencies and attenuates the sound waves. The time-dependent random flow raises the frequencies of the sound waves and amplifies their amplitudes. In the limit of the gravity-free medium the above results are in an agreement with the former findings.  相似文献

We derive the weakly nonlocal limit of a one-population neuronal field model of the Wilson-Cowan type in one spatial dimension. By transforming this equation to an equation in the firing rate variable, it is shown that stationary periodic solutions exist by appealing to a pseudo-potential analysis. The solutions of the full nonlocal equation obey a uniform bound, and the stationary periodic solutions in the weakly nonlocal limit satisfying the same uniform bound are characterized by finite ranges of pseudo energy constants. The time dependent version of the model is reformulated as a Ginzburg-Landau-Khalatnikov type of equation in the firing rate variable where the maximum (minimum) points correspond stable (unstable) homogeneous solutions of the weakly nonlocal limit. Based on this formulation it is also conjectured that the stationary periodic solutions are unstable. We implement a numerical method for the weakly nonlocal limit of the Wilson-Cowan type of model based on the wavelet-Galerkin approach. We perform some numerical tests to illustrate the stability of homogeneous solutions and the evolution of the bumps.  相似文献

A generalized parametrically driven damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation is used to describe, close to the resonance, the dynamics of weakly dissipative systems, like a harmonically coupled pendula chain or an easy-plane magnetic wire. The combined effects of parametric forcing, spatial coupling, and dissipation allows for the existence of stable non-trivial uniform states as well as homogeneous pattern states. The latter can be regular or chaotic. A new family of localized states that connect asymptotically a non-trivial uniform state with a spatio-temporal chaotic pattern is numerically found. We discuss the parameter range, where these localized structures exist. This article is dedicated to Prof. Helmut R. Brand on the occasion of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

A semiclassical model was developed to predict the frequencies of current self-oscillations in weakly coupled semiconductor superlattices (SLs). The calculated frequency is derived from the classical round trip time in one well and the tunneling probability through the barrier, using the well and barrier width, effective masses and band offsets as well as the resulting energies of the sub- and minibands as input parameters. For all SLs, the measured frequency dependence on the sample parameters can be well described by our model. For weakly (strongly) coupled SLs, the calculated frequencies are somewhat above (below) the observed ones. The changeover from one behavior to the other occurs for SLs with miniband widths of a few meV. Received: 2 August 2000 / Accepted: 27 October 2000 / Published online: 28 February 2001  相似文献

An analytic treatment of localization in a weakly disordered system is presented for the case where the real lattice is approximated by a Cayley tree. Contrary to a recent assertion we find that the mobility edge moves inwards into the band as disorder increases from zero.  相似文献

A strong electric susceptibility is measured as a function of temperature in a molecular dimer which is weakly bound by a pair of hydrogen bonds. This system is a remarkable example where the dominant term in the susceptibility is due to a vibration induced electric dipole. As a consequence, the averaged square of the dipole moment varies linearly with the temperature and the susceptibility does not follow the usual 1/T Curie law. this spectacular effect demonstrates the importance of dynamics to interpret the properties of weakly bound complexes.  相似文献

The formation of granular ripples under liquid shear flow in an annular channel is studied experimentally. The erodible granular bed is subject to weakly turbulent flows without a defined sharp boundary layer close to the granular bed. The flow field and the degree of turbulence is characterized quantitatively by using a particle image velocimeter and a laser-Doppler velocimeter, respectively. A new range of particle Reynolds numbers at the lower limit of the Shields diagram were explored. Quantitative measurements of the granular flow on the surface reveal that the threshold for particle motion coincides within the order of one percent with the threshold for ripple formation. In fully developed ripples it was found that on the leeward side of the ripples regions of low-velocity gradients exist where granular motion is scarce, indicating that the coupling between the ripples is mainly caused by the flow field of the liquid.  相似文献

In this paper, we study weakly symmetric Finsler spaces. We first study an existence theorem of weakly symmetric Finsler spaces. Then we study some geometric properties of these spaces and prove that any such space can be written as a coset space of a Lie group with an invariant Finsler metric. Finally we show that each weakly symmetric Finsler space is of Berwald type.  相似文献

The ATHENA and ATRAP groups at CERN recently reported the production of weakly bound antihydrogen atoms in a non-neutral positron-antiproton plasma. This Letter derives an equation of motion for weakly bound atoms in the electric and magnetic fields of the plasma and trap. The atoms are polarized by the electric field and can be trapped radially in the edge region of the plasma where the electric field is maximum.  相似文献

This paper investigates Bose-Einstein condensation of an ideal gas of finite-spin bosons in an external magnetic field. We generalize Bogolyubov’s theory of a weakly nonideal Bose gas to the case where the gas of finite-spin bosons is located in an external magnetic field. We find the corresponding quasiparticle spectrum and formulate the superfluidity criterion for the boson gas. The magnetization of the weakly nonideal Bose gas is also determined. Finally, we specify a method of studying kinetic processes that take place in a weakly nonideal Bose gas. Zh. éksp. Teor. Fiz. 113, 918–929 (March 1998)  相似文献

We study equilibrium properties of a cold two-component Fermi gas confined in a quasi-one-dimensional trap of the transverse size l(perpendicular). In the dilute limit (nl(perpendicular)<1, where n is the 1D density) the problem is exactly solvable for an arbitrary 3D fermionic scattering length aF. When l(perpendicular)/aF goes from -infinity to +infinity, the system successively passes three regimes: weakly interacting Fermi gas, hard core Bose gas, and weakly coupled Bose gas. The regimes are separated by two crossovers at aF approximately +/-nl2(perpendicular). In conclusion, we discuss experimental implications of these results.  相似文献

The relaxation properties of a small classical system weakly coupled to a large classical system which acts as a heat bath are described using a generalized Fokker-Planck equation. The Fokker-Planck equation is derived in general using a modification of the elimination of fast variables techniques previously described. The specific example in which the small system is a harmonic oscillator linearly coupled to the heat bath is treated in detail and it is demonstrated that there is a dynamic frequency shift as well as a statistical shift of the oscillator frequency.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we introduce and study rigorously a Hamiltonian structure and soliton solutions for a weakly dissipative and weakly nonlinear medium that governs two Korteweg–de vries (KdV) wave modes. The bounded solution and traveling wave solution such as cnoidal wave and solitary wave are obtained. Subsequently, the equation is numerically solved by Fourier spectral method for its two-soliton solution. These solutions may be useful to explain the nonlinear dynamics of waves for an equation supporting multi-mode weakly dispersive and nonlinear wave medium. In addition, we give an explicit explanation of the mathematics behind the soliton phenomenon for a better understanding of the equation.  相似文献

We present the phase-locking and coherence properties between two weakly coupled lasers. We show how the degree of coherence between the two lasers can be enhanced by nearly 1 order of magnitude after taking into account the effects of coupling on both their phases as well as their amplitudes. Specifically, correlations between synchronized spikes in the amplitude dynamics and the phase dynamics of the lasers allow for an interference pattern with a fringe visibility of 90%, even when the coupling strength is far below the critical value and they are not phase locked.  相似文献

Kinetic eigenmodes of plasma oscillations in a weakly collisional plasma, described by a collision operator of the Fokker-Planck type, are obtained in closed form for initial-value as well as for boundary-value problems. These eigenmodes, which are smooth and compose a complete discrete spectrum, play the same role for weakly collisional plasmas as the Case-Van Kampen modes do for collisionless plasmas.  相似文献

In this study we numerically investigate large scale premixed flames in weakly turbulent flow fields. A large scale flame is classified as such based on a reference hydrodynamic lengthscale being larger than a neutral (cutoff) lengthscale for which the hydrodynamic or Darrieus–Landau (DL) instability is balanced by stabilizing diffusive effects. As a result, DL instability can develop for large scale flames and is inhibited otherwise. Direct numerical simulations of both large scale and small scale three-dimensional, weakly turbulent flames are performed at constant Karlovitz and turbulent Reynolds number, using two paradigmatic configurations, namely a statistically planar flame and a slot Bunsen flame. As expected from linear stability analysis, DL instability induces its characteristic cusp-like corrugation only on large scale flames. We therefore observe significant morphological and topological differences as well as DL-enhanced turbulent flame speeds in large scale flames. Furthermore, we investigate issues related to reaction rate modeling in the context of flame surface density closure. Thicker flame brushes are observed for large scale flames resulting in smaller flame surface densities and overall larger wrinkling factors.  相似文献

Atom-dimer scattering below the three-body breakup threshold is studied for a system of three identical bosons. The atom-dimer scattering length and the energy of the most weakly bound three-body state are shown to be strongly correlated. An appropriate rescaling of the observables reveals the subtlety of the correlation and serves to identify universal trends in the unitary limit of divergent two-body scattering length. The correlation provides a new quantitative measure of the degree of universality in three-body systems with short-ranged interactions, as well as a consistency check of effective field theories and other theoretical models.  相似文献
