A measurement of the double-differential π± production cross-section in proton–carbon, proton–copper and proton–tin collisions in the range of pion momentum 100 MeV/c≤p<800 MeV/c and angle 0.35 rad≤θ<2.15 rad is presented. The data were taken with the HARP detector in the T9 beam line of the CERN PS.
The pions were produced by proton beams in a momentum range from 3 GeV/c to 12 GeV/c hitting a target with a thickness of 5% of a nuclear interaction length. The tracking and identification of the produced
particles was done using a small-radius cylindrical time projection chamber (TPC) placed in a solenoidal magnet. An elaborate
system of detectors in the beam line ensured the identification of the incident particles. Results are shown for the double-differential
cross-sections d2σ/dpdθ at four incident proton beam momenta (3 GeV/c, 5 GeV/c, 8 GeV/c and 12 GeV/c).

Coherent reactions were observed among one-, three- and may be five-prong interactions of 37 GeV/c protons in nuclear emulsion. Their cross sections were estimated and compared with other data on coherent production in emulsion. 相似文献

Measurements of the double-differential π± production cross-section in the range of momentum 100 MeV/c≤p< 800 MeV/c and angle 0.35 rad ≤θ< 2.15 rad in proton–beryllium,
proton–aluminium and proton–lead collisions are presented. The data were taken with the HARP detector in the T9 beam line
of the CERN PS. The pions were produced by proton beams in a momentum range from 3 GeV/c to 12.9 GeV/c hitting a target with
a thickness of 5% of a nuclear interaction length. The tracking and identification of the produced particles was performed
using a small-radius cylindrical time projection chamber (TPC) placed inside a solenoidal magnet. Incident particles were
identified by an elaborate system of beam detectors. Results are obtained for the double-differential cross-sections d2σ/dpdθ at six incident proton beam momenta (3 GeV/c, 5 GeV/c, 8 GeV/c, 8.9 GeV/c (Be only), 12 GeV/c and 12.9 GeV/c (Al only))
and compared to previously available data. 相似文献

This paper presents the results on charged particle yields and production ratios as measured by the NA56/SPY experiment for
450 GeV/c proton interactions on beryllium targets. The data cover a secondary momentum range from 7 GeV/c to 135 GeV/c and
values up to 600 MeV/c. An experimental accuracy on the measured yields in the range from 5% to 10%, depending on the beam
momentum, and around 3% for the particle production ratios has been achieved. These measurements are relevant for a precise
evaluation of fluxes and composition of neutrino beams at accelerators. Results on the target thickness and shape dependence
are also reported. Inclusive invariant cross sections in the forward direction have been derived.

Direct photon production has been studied by an experiment performed with the NA3 spectrometer at CERN, using incident negative and positive beams at 200 GeV/c interacting with an isoscalar Carbon target. Two different triggers have been used; one of them requires the photon conversion. The experiment is sensitive to direct photons produced with 3.0≦P T ≦6 GeV/c and center-of-mass rapidity ?0.4≦y *≦1.2. Inclusive cross sections are given for incident π± and protons, and compared with second order QCD predictions; finally an estimation of the gluon structure function of the nucleon is given. 相似文献

We study ΛK~+ pair production in the interaction of protons of 2.83 GeV kinetic energy with C, Cu,Ag, and Au target nuclei in the framework of the nuclear spectral function approach for incoherent primary proton–nucleon and secondary pion–nucleon production processes, and processes associated with the creation of intermediate Σ~0K~+ pairs. The approach accounts for the initial proton and final Λ hyperon absorption, final K~+ meson distortion in nuclei, target nucleon binding, and Fermi motion, as well as nuclear mean-field potential effects on these processes. We calculate the Λ momentum dependence of the absolute ΛK~+ yield from the target nuclei considered, in the kinematical conditions of the ANKE experiment, performed at COSY, within the different scenarios for the Λ-nucleus effective scalar potential. We show that the above observable is appreciably sensitive to this potential in the low-momentum region. Therefore, direct comparison of the results of our calculations with the data from the ANKE-at-COSY experiment can help to determine the above potential at finite momenta. We also demonstrate that the two-step pion–nucleon production channels dominate in the low-momentum ΛK~+ production in the chosen kinematics and, therefore, they have to be taken into account in the analysis of these data. 相似文献

From a study of multimuon events obtained in a high luminosity proton-platinum experiment at 400 GeV/c, we find 5 ± 4ψψ events, which correspond to a production cross section σ(ψψ = 27 ± 10 pb. The observed production is compared to the ψψ events previously found in the same apparatus from incoming π?; a comparison with QCD predictions is performed, giving a good agreement with expectations from gluon-gluon fusion. Finally, using like-sign dimuon, trimuon and quadrimuon events, we give model-dependent upper limits on beauty meson production: 2 nb/nucleon for central models, 20 nb/nucleon for diffractive production. 相似文献

The spallation of copper by 9 GeV/c protons and deuterons has been studied. Cross sections for the production of radionuclides with 24 A 60 were determined from direct gamma-ray counting of irradiated targets with a Ge(Li) — spectrometer. The results were parametrized in terms of a 6-parameter formula which reproduces the measured charge-dispersion and mass-yield distributions. The proton results are compared with previous investigations. We wish to acknowledge with thanks the cooperation of Yu. A. Panebratsev, A. N. Khrenov, V. G. Perevozchikov and the members of the Dubna synchrophasotron staff. Without their assistance the present work would not have been possible. 相似文献

A search for pairs of highp T prompt photons produced in hydrogen by a 280 GeV/c incidentπ - beam has been carried out using a fine-grained electromagnetic calorimeter and the Omega spectrometer at the CERN SPS. Clear evidence for the existence of such events is found with a six standard deviation signal forp T >3.0 GeV/c. The cross-sections are consistent with beyond leading order QCD calculations. A discussion on the determination of α s is also presented. 相似文献

The inclusive production of π+ for 0.4≤pT<1.0 GeV/c in pion-nucleus and proton-nucleus collisions at 4.3 GeV/c was measured. A strong A-dependence of the cross sections at high pT is observed to be persistent in the low energy region. The ratio of the cross sections for proton-nucleus and pion-nucleus collisions is also observed to be compatible with the quark-parton picture, for pT>0.6 GeV/c. 相似文献

The inclusive cross sections for prompt photon production by π? and π+ on protons have been measured with a beam momentum of 280 GeV/c using a fine grained electromagnetic calorimeter and the CERN Omega spectrometer. The transverse momentum and Feynmanx F ranges covered are 4.0<p T <7.0GeV/c and ?0.45<x F <0.55 respectively. A quantitative comparison of the prompt photon cross section with next-to-leading order QCD predictions using Duke and Owens structure functions is performed. 相似文献
