Complex conjugation on complex space permutes the level sets of a real polynomial function and induces involutions on level sets corresponding to real values. For isolated complex hypersurface singularities with real defining equation we show the existence of a monodromy vector field such that complex conjugation intertwines the local monodromy diffeomorphism with its inverse. In particular, it follows that the geometric monodromy is the composition of the involution induced by complex conjugation and another involution. This topological property holds for all isolated complex plane curve singularities. Using real morsifications, we compute the action of complex conjugation and of the other involution on the Milnor fiber of real plane curve singularities.  相似文献

Multivariable Alexander invariants of algebraic links calculated in terms of algebro-geometric invariants (polytopes and ideals of quasiadjunction). The relations with log-canonical divisors, the multiplier ideals and a semicontinuity property of polytopes of quasiadjunction are discussed. Given a positive integer g, we denote by F(g) the set of all numerical semigroups with Frobenius number g. The set (F(g),∩) is a semigroup. In this paper we study the generators of this semigroup.  相似文献

Let S be a closed, connected, orientable surface of genus at least 3, be the complex of curves on S and be the extended mapping class group of S. We prove that a simplicial map, , preserves nondisjointness (i.e. if α and β are two vertices in and i(α,β)≠0, then i(λ(α),λ(β))≠0) iff it is induced by a homeomorphism of S. As a corollary, we prove that if K is a finite index subgroup of and is an injective homomorphism, then f is induced by a homeomorphism of S and f has a unique extension to an automorphism of .  相似文献

With five exceptions, every finite regular permutation group occurs as the automorphism group of a digraph. One of the corollaries: given a finite groupG of ordern, there is a commutative semigroupS of order 2n+2 such that AutSG. The problem whether a latticeL of order Cn with AutLG exists (for some constantC), remains open.  相似文献

From Wajnryb's presentation, we extract a simple presentation of the mapping class group of the genus g surface as a quotient of an Artin group by simple relations among the centers of sub-Artin groups. Topological meanings are given by using deformation of simple singularities. Received: 22 January 1998 / in final form: 16 February 1999  相似文献

Associated with a boundedg-holed (g0) planar domainD are two types of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces of meromorphic functions onD. We give explicit formulas for the reproducing kernel functions of these spaces. The formulas are in terms of theta functions defined on the Jacobian variety of the Schottky double of the regionD. As applications we settle a conjecture of Abrahamse concerning Nevalinna-Pick interpolation on an annulus and obtain explicit formulas for the curvature (in the sense of Cowen and Douglas) of rank 1 bundle shift operators.  相似文献

Galois groups of some explicit equations in characteristic 3 will be computed to be the Mathieu group of degree 12. We use the resolution of singularities of plane curves to get a lower bound for the Galois groups. Also we use factorizations of polynomials over the prime field to sharpen the lower bound. Finally we use the linearization process to get an appropriate upper bound for the Galois groups.Partly supported by PRF grant 690-1395-1920.  相似文献

Using the theory of Witt vectors, we define ring structures on several well-known groups of arithmetic functions, which in another guise are formal Dirichlet series. The set of multiplicative arithmetic functions over a commutative ring R is shown to have a unique functorial ring structure for which the operation of addition is Dirichlet convolution and the operation of multiplication restricted to the completely multiplicative functions coincides with point-wise multiplication. The group of additive arithmetic functions over R also has a functorial ring structure. In analogy with the ghost homomorphism of Witt vectors, there is a functorial ring homomorphism from the ring of multiplicative functions to the ring of additive functions that is an isomorphism if R is a Q-algebra. The group of rational arithmetic functions, that is, the group generated by the completely multiplicative functions, forms a subring of the ring of multiplicative functions. The latter ring has the structure of a Bin(R)-algebra, where Bin(R) is the universal binomial ring equipped with a ring homomorphism to R. We use this algebra structure to study the order of a rational arithmetic function, as well the powersfα for α∈Bin(R) of a multiplicative arithmetic function f. For example, we prove new results about the powers of a given multiplicative arithmetic function that are rational. Finally, we apply our theory to the study of the zeta function of a scheme of finite type over Z.  相似文献

We develop a number of statistical aspects of symmetric groups (mostly dealing with the distribution of cycles in various subsets of Sn), asymptotic properties of (ordinary) characters of symmetric groups, and estimates for the multiplicities of root number functions of these groups. As main applications, we present an estimate for the subgroup growth of an arbitrary Fuchsian group, a finiteness result for the number of Fuchsian presentations of such a group (resolving a long-standing problem of Roger Lyndon), as well as a proof of a well-known conjecture of Roichman concerning the mixing time of random walks on symmetric groups.  相似文献

A relative presentation is a triple where A is a group, X is a set, and R is a set of words in the free product A∗F(X) where F(X) is the free group with basis X. Under certain hypotheses on the relative presentation , we show that (1) the group presented by is locally indicable; (2) the pre-aspherical model for is aspherical; (3) the Freiheitssatz holds for . The result has applications in the computation of cohomology of groups and the field of equations over groups.  相似文献

Let G be a group and H a subgroup of G. It is shown that there exists a partially ordered set (X, ) such that G is isomorphic to the group of all automorphisms of the comparability graph of (X, ) and such that under this isomorphism H is mapped onto the group of all order-automorphisms of (X, ). There also exists a partially ordered set (Y, ) such that G is isomorphic to the group of all automorphisms of the covering graph of (Y, ) and such that under this isomorphism H is mapped onto the group of all order-automorphisms of (Y, ). In this representation X and Y can be taken to be finite if G is finite and of the same cardinality as G if G is infinite.  相似文献

Let M be an irreducible, orientable, closed 3-manifold with fundamental group G. We show that if the pro-p completion of G is infinite then G is either soluble-by-finite or contains a free subgroup of rank 2.
