Highly birefringent elliptical-hole photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with single defect and double defects are proposed, which are supposed to be achieved by extruding normal circular-hole PCFs based on a triangular-lattice photonic crystal structure. Comparative research on the birefringence and the confinement loss of the proposed PCFs with single defect and double defects is presented. Simulation results show that the proposed PCFs with single defect and double defects can be with high birefringence (even up to the order of 10^-2). The confinement loss increases when the ellipticity of the air hole of the PCFs increases, which nevertheless can be overcome bv increasing the ring number or the air holes in the fiber cladding.  相似文献

本文设计了两种具有微结构纤芯的光子晶体光纤(PCFs)——矩形芯和椭圆芯PCFs,利用电磁场散射的多极理论研究了这两种光纤的基本特性.发现在光纤包层气孔不变的情况下,仅通过调节纤芯气孔的大小就可以灵活地调节光纤的双折射、色散和非线性特性.随着纤芯气孔半径r1的增大,两种纤芯结构的PCFs表现出如下特点:双折射度增大且最大双折射度对应的波长发生红移,零色散波长由一个增加到三个,短波段非线性系数增大而长波段非线性系数减小.r1=0.4 μm的椭圆芯PCFs的三个零色 关键词: 微结构纤芯光子晶体光纤 双折射 色散 非线性  相似文献

A kind of highly birefringent quinquangular-core photonic crystal fiber(Q-PCF) structure is proposed and analyzed by full-vector finite element method(FEM) . The modal field,effective index,and birefringence properties are investigated. From the numerical results,it is found that the birefringence of the new polarization-maintaining PCFs is at least five times larger than that of the standard highly birefringent hexagonal PCFs(H-PCFs) with the same hole pitch,hole diameter,and whole hole area as that of the new PCFs at 1 550 nm. Moreover,the modal field of the new PCFs could be better restricted than that of the standard highly birefringent H-PCFs;hence,the loss of fibers could be reduced.  相似文献

Photonic crystal fibres (PCFs) offer new possibilities of realizing highly birefringent fibres due to a higher intrinsic index contrast compared to conventional fibres. In this paper, we analyse theoretically the modal properties of a kind of polarization-maintaining PCF, namely the elliptical hole photonic crystal fibre (EHPCF) with a central small elliptical hole introduced in the core region. We demonstrate the possibility of achieving large birefringence with zero walk-off in the single-mode regime. This PCF also exhibits unusual dispersion properties. Several hundred nanometres of ultra broadband flattened dispersion near the wavelength 1.55μm is achieved in this EHPCF with a central small hole of d_c=0.4Λ.  相似文献

We propose a novel polarization-maintaining index-guiding photonic crystal fiber (PCF). It is composed of a solid silica core and a cladding with squeezed-hexagonal-lattice elliptical air holes. Using a full-vector finite-element method, we study the modal birefringence of the fundamental modes in such PCFs. Numerical result shows that very high modal birefringence with a magnitude of the order of 10(-2) around 1550 nm has been obtained. Furthermore, large normal dispersion appears over a wide range of wavelengths in both orthogonal polarizations.  相似文献

提出了一种在纤芯引入微小椭圆孔实现高双折射光子晶体光纤的方法.采用全矢量有限元方法和完美匹配层条件,依次研究了光子晶体光纤在纤芯中引入单个、双个、三个微小椭圆孔情况下的双折射特性.模拟结果表明,纤芯微小椭圆孔主导了光子晶体光纤的双折射特性,其参量及个数对双折射有着重要的影响,增大椭圆面积、椭圆率可以进一步提高光子晶体光纤的双折射.最后设计和研究了一种采用三环阵列椭圆孔微结构纤芯的光子晶体光纤,其双折射可以达到2.7×10-3.  相似文献

为了实现高双折射光子晶体光纤,提出了一种在纤芯中引入微小圆孔的方法.利用全矢量有限元方法和完美匹配层条件研究了基于圆孔微细结构纤芯的光子晶体光纤的双折射特性.讨论了纤芯圆孔数量、孔径、间隔距离对光纤双折射特性的影响;设计了一种双折射达到10-2量级的光子晶体光纤.模拟结果表明采用三个以上圆孔可以获得较大的双折射,增大外包层数目可以有效减小约束损耗.  相似文献

A new technique to uniformly align liquid crystal molecules is presented. The technique is based on producing an anisotropic surface on the glass substrate coated with photo-polymers by photo-polymerization of linear polarized UV-light. The orientation of liquid crystal molecules is governed by the direction of the polarized vector of UV-light. Using this method, we have studied the photo-polymer PSi-CM aligning LC 6710A molecules. The liquid crystal microscopic texture between crossed polarizers, optical retardation from liquid crystal layers and electro-optical properties of twisted nematic liquid crystal display cell are obtained, which was prepared with one side -photo-alignment and the other side-rebbed substrate.  相似文献

It is proposed to apply the birefringence method to measure the threshold of the light-induced Freedericksz transition and the nonlinearity enhancement factor of nematic liquid crystals by director relaxation dynamics in the light field. A birefringence change is recorded by interference of ordinary and extraordinary components of the light beamaffecting the liquid crystal director orientation. The Freedericksz transition thresholds and nonlinearity enhancement factors are measured for the samples doped with comb-shaped polymers with various degrees of polymerization. The determined thresholds are in agreement with the results obtained by the aberrational self-action method.  相似文献

设计了一种新型高双折射光子晶体光纤,即其包层引入椭圆形空气孔,且以三角晶格方式周期排列,纤芯引入亚波长尺寸(~0.16 μm)的微型双孔结构阵列.采用全矢量有限元法和各向异性完美匹配层边界条件分析了该型光子晶体光纤的双折射特性和色散特性,详细介绍了该光子晶体光纤在不同的椭圆率、椭圆归一化面积、微型双孔孔径、两小孔之间间距的情况下双折射和限制损耗随波长的变化曲线.模拟结果表明,通过同时在包层和纤芯引入非对称性,获得了较高的双折射(~10-3量级)和极低(~10-4 dB/km)的限制损耗.提供了一种新的光子晶体光纤设计方法,即通过同时在包层和纤芯引入新结构来同时获得高双折射和低损耗.  相似文献

介绍了液晶棱镜盒的制作及利用其测试液晶双折射的实验方法.这种棱镜盒的2片梯形透明导电玻璃的重合部分为等边三角形.不加电场时,液晶盒不是光学各向异性的单轴晶体,没有双折射现象,只能观察到散射现象;在电极上施加电压使液晶垂面排列,液晶盒成双折射单晶,利用三棱镜最小偏向角原理测试液晶双折射率.  相似文献

A versatile phase-stepping speckle shearing interferometer is described that employed a calibrated liquid crystal as its phase modulator, operating at 514 nm. By implementation of an algorithm upon phase-stepped shearographic images it was possible to create a phase map, that provided quantitative data regarding the derivative of any out-of-plane surface displacement. The use of a liquid crystal phase modulator in an optical arrangement had advantages over alternative methods. However, it is normally limited by spatial non-uniformity of the cells birefringence. The birefringence for a nematic liquid crystal cell was determined in several cross-sectional locations, before the cell was successfully integrated into a Michelson speckle shearing interferometer. Such a scheme offers flexibility in the shearing angle, and a measurement system that may operate over an extended range of monitoring wavelengths.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the dispersion and polarization properties of photonic crystal fiber with one ring or more rings of elliptical air-holes using plane-wave expansion (PWE) method. By introducing three rings of elliptical air-holes, PCF with ultra-low and ultra-flattened dispersion is designed and a total dispersion curve between ±0.5 ps/nm/km from 1315 to 1855 nm wavelength range is demonstrated. Furthermore, the polarization property of these elliptical air-hole-containing PCFs is analyzed and the variation of the birefringence with the area and ellipticity of the elliptical air-holes are discussed.  相似文献

Photonic liquid crystal fibers have already been demonstrated as a promising perspective for creation of new classes of dynamically tunable optical fiber devices. By combining different geometries of photonic crystal fibers with a variety of different liquid crystals it is possible to obtain a new generation of fibers with dynamically tunable properties, e.g., transmission spectra, attenuation or dispersion. In this paper, tunable birefringence in a commercially available highly birefringent Blazephotonics PM-1550-01 photonic crystal fiber selectively filled with a low birefringence liquid crystal has been experimentally demonstrated. Theses experimental results have been compared with simulations based on the multipole method.  相似文献

采用全矢量平面波展开法,以聚合物PMMA为基材,研究了椭圆芯非六角对称聚合物光子晶体光纤(Photonic Crystal Fibers,PCFs)的传输模场和偏振特性,从理论上分析了其模式双折射和光纤结构参量的关系.研究结果表明,该PCFs基模的两个正交偏振态不再简并,模场呈现明显的椭圆并具有较强的线偏振特性;另外,该光纤的模式双折射强烈地依赖于光纤的结构参量,通过适当调节光纤的相对孔间距比,有望在给定波长范围内实现更高双折射单模运行.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the surface polarization has been measured for both the planar and homeotropic orientation of a nematic liquid crystal at a solid substrate. A conventional liquid crystal 5CB, pure and doped with an azo-dye, was used in cells with controlled asymmetry for light absorption. The measurements have been made by a pyroelectric technique using short pulses of a YAG laser to create a temperature increment. The latter, in turn, was measured independently by a novel time-resolved “optical thermometer” technique monitoring temperature-dependent birefringence by a He- Ne laser beam. In accordance with the symmetry of the order parameter, the surface polarization has different sign for the two orientations, its magnitude ranges from -4 to +2pC/m. The same technique has been used for the measurement of the flexoelectric polarization in hybrid cells. The sum of the flexoelectric coefficients is e 1 + e 3 = - 13pC/m at 25°C. Experimental results of temperature-, electric field-, and hydrostatic-pressure-induced effects in solid-core highly birefringent photonic liquid crystal fibers are presented. Selective infiltration of the photonic crystal fibers with liquid crystals was found to induce birefringence axes switching resulting in a variety of tunable photonic liquid crystal fibers-based devices.  相似文献

利用多极法对八边形光子晶体光纤的色散补偿特性进行数值模拟,分析了结构参数变化对色散补偿特性的影响;计算了具有相同参数的六边形结构光子晶体光纤的色散系数和非线性系数;研究表明八边形光子晶体光纤比六边形结构的光子晶体光纤的大负色散特性明显提高,非色散系数低,更有利于进行色散补偿.因此,本文设计了一种新型的八边形色散补偿光纤,在λ=1.55μm时色散值为-1434.9ps·nm-1·km-1,色散斜率为-4.6338ps·nm-2· 关键词: 光子晶体光纤 多极法 色散斜率 色散补偿  相似文献

利用有效折射率方法基于标量近似理论对光子晶体光纤的传播模式和色散特性进行了数值模 拟,发现通过调节光纤包层的空气填充率或包层空气穴节距及其有效芯径可以在很宽的波长 范围实现单模传播,可以设计零色散波长小于1.27μm的光子晶体光纤和在较宽的波段接近 于零色散的色散平坦光纤,以及具有较大的正常色散值的色散补偿光纤. 关键词: 光子晶体光纤 有效折射率 标量近似 导波模式  相似文献
