Rod-shape crystals of the LiMgPO4 compound were grown by micro pulling down technique under the different growth conditions. Influence of the different growth rates, thermal setups and gaseous atmospheres on the crystals dosimetric properties was investigated. Samples were irradiated with 90Sr/90Y β particles and optically stimulated luminescence spectra were measured with the automatic Risø TL/OSL-DA20 reader. The sensitivity level, repeatability, dose–response dependence and short-time fading were compared for all grown crystals. It was found that the crystal grown from the iridium crucible was about three times more sensitive to radiation as compared to the crystal grown from the graphite crucible. Also the radio-sensitivity measured for the crystals grown from the graphite crucible was higher in case of higher growth rates. It was also shown that the residual OSL signal measured one and two weeks after the irradiation was higher for the crystals grown with higher growth rates. There was also no correlation observed between the growth conditions and the level of dose–response nonlinearity. Over the studied dose range the response nonlinearity of the studied samples fluctuated around over a dozen percent, regardless of the applied growth parameters. The obtained results tend to suggest that LiMgPO4 crystals may be considered as promising dosimeters in different fields of research.  相似文献

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) in Cu and Eu doped K3Na(SO4)2 is reported for the first time. The Cu-doped sample shows OSL sensitivity which gets enhanced by co-doping with Mg2+ ions. The Cu-doped and quenched sample shows better sensitivity which is almost double than that of the slowly cooled sample, whereas the sensitivity of Mg co-doped sample remains nearly same irrespective of the thermal treatment. The Cu-doped sample shows TL peak around 200 °C and moderate OSL sensitivity. Doping of Mg shifts the TL peak to around 160 °C and is correlated with good OSL sensitivity. Eu-doped sample does not show OSL sensitivity. However, relatively good OSL sensitivity is observed in Aluminium co-doped and slowly cooled sample, which is about 15% of the commercial Al2O3:C(Landuer Inc.). A near fully optically sensitive TL peak around 155 °C is observed. The dose response is linear and practically no OSL fading is observed in first five days of storage in slowly cooled sample. This study on conventional sulphate-based TL phosphors will be useful in developing OSL phosphors for radiation dosimetry.  相似文献

This paper gives a review of recent developments in luminescence measurement facilities on the Risø TL/OSL reader including radio-luminescence (RL), exo-electron and violet stimulation attachments, and a method for characterising and if necessary correcting for beta irradiation source non-uniformity.We first describe improvements to the existing RL option to allow near infra-red detection (NIR) during irradiation by the built-in 90Sr/90Y beta source. The RL optical signal is collected by a liquid light guide through an F34-901 interference filter and detection is based on a dedicated thermoelectrically cooled NIR sensitive PMT (detection window peak at 855 nm, FWHM 27 nm). Software and electronics have been modified to allow standard TL and OSL measurements in the same sequence as RL measurements. Together with a new bleaching source based on a high-power UV LED (395 nm; 700 mW/cm2), this facility has been used to measure natural doses in feldspar using the decaying NIR RL signal.Secondly, we present a method for mapping radiation field of the built-in 90Sr/90Y β-source and estimating grain-location specific dose-rates. This is important for the accuracy of single grain results, when radiation field is spatially non-uniform across the sample area. We document the effect of this correction method and further investigate on the effect of lifting the source to achieve a better dose-rate uniformity.Finally we summarise two recently-developed novel facilities to help investigate (i) the time scales involved in OSL processes (time-resolved exo-electron detection) and (ii) extending the age range (violet stimulated signals from deep quartz OSL traps).  相似文献

Time-Resolved Optically Stimulated Luminescence (TR-OSL) from single crystalline YAlO3:Mn2+ samples was investigated using a green light emitting diode (λ ∼ 525 nm) as stimulation light source. The TR-OSL decay curve of the material can be described with a single exponential decay function with a lifetime about 80 ms that does not depend on irradiation dose in the range from 50 mGy to 1 kGy. This OSL decay is superposed on a photoluminescence signal with a much shorter (3.5 ms) decay lifetime. The Mn2+ photoluminescence decay with a lifetime of 3.5 ms can be easily eliminated by corresponding time resolution using pulsed OSL readout. Dose response and thermal stability of the OSL signal are consistent with the previous thermoluminescent (TL) studies of the material.  相似文献

The Spectrolite, from the silicate family, a variety of Labradorite, was already studied in relation to its thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) responses, in high-dose gamma radiation fields; the results indicated their good application as gamma radiation detectors. In the present work, the analyses performed to investigate powdered Spectrolite are presented, by means of the XRD, SEM and EDX techniques. The luminescent behavior of Spectrolite + Teflon samples, in the concentration of 1:1, was studied in beta radiation beams (90Sr + 90Y), using the luminescent phenomena of TL and OSL. The results showed adequate TL and OSL reproducibility of the samples; the dose–response curves for both techniques presented a linear behavior in a range from 0.5 Gy to 1 kGy, and the fading showed that after 150 h there were 46.7% and 31.6% of the remaining signal of samples for TL and OSL responses, respectively. Therefore, the Spectrolite + Teflon pellets may be used in beta radiation dosimetry.  相似文献

In the present work policrystals of α − Al2O3 doped with terbium were synthesized using the solvent evaporation method. The samples were prepared using Al(NO3)3·9H2O and Tb(NO3)3·5H2O reagents, with Tb concentrations between 1 and 5 mol% and thermally treated at high temperature above ∼1400 °C. X-ray diffraction measurements showed the α-phase formation of samples. TL glow curve presented an intense peak at ∼190 °C and two other with low intensity at 290 and 350 °C after gamma irradiation. The best doping concentration which presented high luminescence was the sample doped with 3 mol% of Tb. TL spectra and fluorescence measurements showed similar luminescence spectra with lines attribute to Tb3+ ions. A linear behavior to gamma dose between 1 and 20 Gy was observed in TL, using 190 °C peak as well as in OSL signal, this last carried out using 532 nm wavelength stimulation.  相似文献

BaSO4:Eu2+ phosphor has been investigated for its photoluminescence (PL), thermoluminescence (TL), TL kinetics, optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and thermally assisted OSL (TA-OSL) response. PL spectra showed the characteristic emission of Eu2+ ion at 375 nm when excited by 320 nm. The luminescence lifetime has been measured as 40 and 628 μs of fast and slow components respectively. The TL parameters such as trap depth (E), frequency factor (s) and the order of kinetics (b) are determined. The phosphor is found to be 6 and 4 times more sensitive than CaSO4:Dy and α-Al2O3:C, respectively, in TL mode. However, its OSL sensitivity is 75% of α-Al2O3:C. It is found to possess three OSL components having photoionization cross-sections of 1.4 × 10−17, 1.2 × 10−18 and 5.2 × 10−19 cm2 respectively. The temperature dependence of OSL studies showed that integrated TA-OSL signal increases with stimulation temperature between 50 and 250 °C, while between 260 and 450 °C the signal intensity decreases. This behavior is interpreted to arise from competing effects of thermal assistance (activation energy EA = 0.063 ± 0.0012 eV) and depletion of trapped charges. This increase of OSL at elevated temperature can be employed for enhancing the sensitivity of phosphor for radiation dosimetry.  相似文献

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) measurements have been carried out on single crystals of Ag doped Li2B4O7 (LTB:Ag) after exposure to various nuclear radiations. The time integrated OSL intensity is found to be linear in the range from 0.1 Gy to 500 Gy. Fading of the OSL signal was found to be around 36% in 48 h. The presence of 6Li and 10B has been gainfully utilized to measure doses of thermal neutrons. Further, the large difference between the wavelength of the stimulation source (∼460 nm) and emission from the LTB:Ag at 270 nm has enhanced the signal-to-noise ratio in a simple OSL set-up with suitable filters. The high sensitivity of the LTB:Ag to thermal neutrons will be useful in variety of applications including personal dosimetry in mixed-fields and imaging devices for neutron radiography.  相似文献

A new OSL phosphor CaSO4:Eu was developed. The phosphor shows good OSL sensitivity which is about 55% of commercially available Al2O3:C. The phosphor also shows good TL sensitivity and the dosimetric peak, which appears around 186 °C, has sensitivity nearly 50% of Al2O3:C. After OSL readout of the irradiated sample, the TL peak around 250 °C depletes completely, with partial depletion of peak around 186 °C. Since the traps responsible for the high temperature peak are involved for the observed OSL, the sample shows low post-irradiation fading. The OSL decay is similar to Al2O3:C. Thus this phosphor due to its good OSL sensitivity, linear dose response, low fading and simple preparation technique could be useful for radiation dosimetry applications.  相似文献

International recommendations establish that 90Sr + 90Y clinical applicators have to be calibrated in order to determine the absorbed dose rates in the case of the sources that do not have original calibration certificates, or to update the absorbed dose rates presented in the source certificates. Following these recommendations, a postal dosimetric system was developed to calibrate clinical applicators using two luminescent techniques: thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL). In this work, Al2O3:C commercial detectors were characterized and their TL and OSL responses were analyzed. The results showed the efficiency and the optimal behavior of this material in beta radiation beams. After characterization, the system was sent to the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), Brazil, for calibration of five 90Sr + 90Y clinical applicators, where the detectors were irradiated and returned to IPEN, for their evaluation and determination of the absorbed dose rates. A comparison between these absorbed dose rates and those adopted by the UFS as original was made; the differences obtained were within those of other studies, and they demonstrated the usefulness of the system.  相似文献

Standard methods of OSL measurements (CW-OSL or LM-OSL) do not allow for the direct determination of optical depth of traps. The variable energy of stimulation optically stimulated luminescence (VES-OSL) method gives such possibility. It consists in optical stimulation with the continuous increase of stimulation light energy and is analogous to the glow curve method in TL measurements. The VES-OSL curve shape and maximum position can be regulated by the stimulation photon flux, the rate of stimulation energy increase and by measurement temperature. This allows for detecting the OSL from very deep traps that give the TL signal overlapping with strong incandescence. The VES-OSL measurements carried out for Al2O3:C showed that traps having the optical depth between 2.0 and 2.8 eV are responsible for the OSL signal related to TL peak at about 200 °C. The OSL signal from the much deeper traps from the range 2.8–3.3 eV was also detected. The TL signal related do these traps cannot be detected below 500 °C.  相似文献

The motivation of this work was to produce crystals of CaSO4 doped with an unusual combination of RE elements such as terbium (Tb) and europium (Eu) in different concentrations, and analyze its thermoluminescent (TL) properties. The crystals were produced by the slow evaporation route using calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as precursor, and incorporating the dopants (Tb2O3 and Eu2O3) in a solution of sulfuric acid, that is evaporated and collected again, leaving just CaSO4:Tb,Eu crystal powder. The terbium and europium ions were incorporated in concentration ratios of 1:1, 2:1 and 5:1 (weight proportions). X-ray diffraction analyses showed that samples of doped CaSO4 exhibit only a single phase corresponding to the crystal structure of anhydrite. The radioluminescence confirmed the presence of Tb3+ and Eu2+ in the crystal matrix. The CaSO4:Tb,Eu crystal powders showed TL emission glow curves with three peaks centered around 170 °C, 270 °C and 340 °C, after irradiation with a 90Sr/90Y source. Thermoluminescent (TL) characteristics such as linearity, reproducibility and fading were evaluated. Samples produced with concentration ratio of 2:1 of Tb and Eu showed the highest TL intensity. The produced CaSO4:Tb,Eu samples present TL properties useful for dosimetric purposes.  相似文献

Quartz extracted from heated bricks has been previously suggested for use in dose estimation in accident dosimetry, but this technique has never been applied before to Japanese quartz which often has unusual OSL characteristics. In this study the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) characteristics of quartz extracted from a Japanese commercial red brick produced by Mishima – Renga – Seizoujyo Co. are studied. These companies are based in the Aichi Prefecture (capital Nagoya), which accounts for about half of the red brick production in Japan. A comparison of TL (thermoluminescence) and OSL signals has been carried out towards identification of common source traps. It is observed that OSL from Japanese brick quartz shows unusual luminescence characteristics; in particular, the initial fast decaying OSL signal contains a dominant (>90%) thermally unstable component related to the 85 °C TL peak, which necessitates a prior heat treatment. A single-aliquot regenerative-dose (SAR) protocol is developed and tested using thermal treatments intended to isolate a stable dosimetric signal. A minimum detection limit of ~65 mGy is then estimated using this protocol. Following irradiation using 60Co and 137Cs, dose–depth profiles were measured on two different commercial brick types (Mishima – Renga – Seizoujyo Co. and Hase – Renga Co.) with 5 Gy and 10 Gy surface doses. The profiles derived from the two sources were readily distinguishable. It is concluded that the OSL signals from the two types of Japanese brick quartz examined here can be used to derive precise estimates of accident dose, and, possibly to distinguish between sources of gamma radiation in a nuclear accident.To our knowledge, this is the first report on the existence of an unstable fast decaying OSL signal in quartz derived from bricks, and demonstrates a way forward with such samples in retrospective dosimetry.  相似文献

Knowledge of the relative luminescence response to alpha and beta radiation is very important in TL and OSL dating. In the present study the relative alpha to beta response is studied in a sedimentary quartz sample, previously fired at 900 °C for 1 h, in the dose region between 1 and 128 Gy, for both thermoluminescence (TL) and linearly modulated optically stimulated luminescence (LM – OSL). The LM – OSL measurements were performed at room temperature and at 125 °C. All OSL signals were deconvolved into their individual components. Comparison of OSL curves after alpha and beta irradiation strongly supports that quartz OSL components follow first order kinetics in both cases. In the case of TL, the relative alpha to beta response is found to be very different for each TL glow-peak, but it does not depend strongly on irradiation dose. In the case of LM – OSL measurements, it is found that the relative behaviour of the alpha to beta response is different for three distinct regions, namely the fast OSL component, the region of medium OSL component originating from the TL glow-peak at 110 °C when stimulation takes place at room temperature and finally the region of slow OSL component. Following stimulation at ambient temperature, the relative alpha to beta response of all components was not observed to depend significantly on dose, with the value of ratio being 0.03 and a tendency to decrease with increasing dose. However, in the case of measurements performed at 125 °C, the relative response of the fast components is much enhanced, and for the remaining components it increases with increasing dose. Special care must be taken to examine the relative alpha to beta response of the fast component at 125 °C which contrasts the relative response of the TL peak at ca. 325 °C. The implications for the dating of annealed quartz are also briefly discussed.  相似文献

The present work suggests an alternative experimental method in order to not only measure the signal of the deep traps in Al2O3:C without heating the sample to temperatures greater than 500 °C, but also use this signal for high dose level dosimetry purposes as well. This method consists of photo transfer OSL measurements performed at elevated temperatures using the blue LEDs (470 nm, FWHM 20 nm) housed at commercial Risø TL/OSL systems, after the sample was previously heated up to 500 °C in order to empty its main TL dosimetric trap. The influence of this procedure on specific features such as glow curve shape and sensitivity of the main TL glow peak was also studied.  相似文献

Natural fluorite (CaF2), a dosimetric material of large usage, presents Thermoluminescence (TL) and Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL). This study examined the behavior of TL and OSL (stimulated with Blue LEDs) signals from the Brazilian natural fluorite pellets with NaCl as binding agent, as well as their correlations, in order to study and optimize the dosimetric process with this material. A series of experiments were conducted, basically with thermal treatments before OSL acquisition, and optical bleaching before TL readout. The role of NaCl in the TL and OSL emission was investigated. It was observed that natural CaF2 TL signal is still ample to be used in dosimetric applications, as dose re-assessment in personal dosimetry after an OSL measurement. Also it was verified that the fluorite OSL signal is extinguished by a 350 °C heating and that NaCl has no contribution to the stable part of the OSL signal.  相似文献

The optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) of LiF:Mg,Ti (TLD-100) following irradiation by beta and alpha particles was investigated by measurement of the excitation and emission spectra of OSL and comparison with thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics. The OSL excitation spectra of all the samples following both beta and alpha irradiation are very similar.Identical emission bands with very similar relative intensities following both beta irradiation and alpha particle irradiation have been recorded in the OSL induced in nominally pure LiF mono and TLD-100 polycrystals. The identical excitation and emission bands in the doped and pure crystals are strong evidence indicating that the observed OSL is due to an intrinsic trapping structure. The OSL has indeed been previously attributed to F2 centers and F3+ centers.The preferential excitation of OSL compared to TL following high ionisation density (HID) alpha irradiation is naturally explained via the identification of OSL with the “two-hit” F2 or F3+ center, whereas the major component of composite TL glow peak 5 is believed to arise from a “one-hit” complex defect. This discovery allows near-total discrimination between HID radiation and low ionisation density (LID) radiation and may have significant potential in mixed-field radiation dosimetry.  相似文献

In this work, the response of the natural material Opal was studied in relation to its thermoluminescence (TL) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), after exposure to the gamma radiation of a 60Co source. The structure of the powdered Opal was verified using the X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. The material, in its stone form, was turned into powder and mixed to Teflon (also in powder) in three different concentrations, and then pellets were manufactured. The aim of this work was to evaluate the response of these pellets in high-doses of gamma radiation beams, and to observe their possible application as dosimeters, using the TL and OSL techniques. The dosimetric properties of the samples were analyzed by means of different tests, as: TL emission curves and OSL signal decay curves, reproducibility of TL and OSL response, minimum detectable dose, TL and OSL dose–response curves (5 Gy–10 kGy), and fading. The results obtained in this work, for the TL and OSL phenomena, demonstrated that the pellets of Opal + Teflon present an adequate performance e possibility of use as dosimeters in beams of high-dose gamma radiation.  相似文献

Lithium magnesium phosphate LiMgPO4 (LMP) doped with Tb and B is one of new materials intended for use in optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimetry. LMP doped with Tb and B luminophors were synthetized at IFJ PAN in Krakow. The investigations were carried out on self-developed dosimeters consisting of a slide with four LMP detectors and a light tight cover. LMP detectors were investigated in regard to their OSL properties using OSL reader named HELIOS adopted to the readouts of dosimetric cards. New LMP detectors showed high sensitivity to the ionizing radiation, good repeatability of OSL signal and good dose response, 25% of fading in the first two weeks after irradiation. Also, the pronounced dependence of OSL response on the energy of the measured radiation requires to apply the compensation filters.  相似文献
