Bell’s theorem has been widely argued to show that some of the predictions of quantum mechanics which are obtained by applying the Born’s rule to a class of entangled states, are not compatible with any local-causal statistical model, via the violation of Bell’s inequalities. On the other hand, in the previous works, we have shown that quantum dynamics and kinematics are emergent from a statistical model that is singled out uniquely by the principle of Locality. Here we shall show that the local-causal model supports entangled states and give the statistical origin of their generation. We then study the Stern-Gerlach experiment to show that the Born’s rule can also be derived as a mathematical theorem in the local-causal model. These results lead us to argue that nonlocality is not responsible for the quantum mechanical and most importantly experimental violation of Bell’s inequalities. The source(s) of violation has to be sought somewhere else.  相似文献

For the formulation of Bell inequalities, it is important to include not just N-site correlation functions, but also (N-n)-site correlation functions. In this article, we focus on a three-qubit Bell inequality, which has been shown to be a good candidate for generalizing Gisin’s theorem to three qubits. The three-qubit Bell inequality can be used to detect the W-type entanglement in a proposed experiment.  相似文献

The parameters at which the maximally entangled two-particle state appears in the system of two ideal electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometers are known. In this work, the operation of nonideal devices with finite scattering in splitters and with reflection in the region of the Coulomb Interaction has been considered. It has been shown that, under the condition of postselection of experimental results, these factors can increase the observed Bell parameter to values exceeding Cirel’son’s (or Tsirelson’s) bound equal to 2√2 up to the mathematical limit equal to 4. A simple postselective measurement scheme providing B = 4 has been described. Although the results of such measurements are not as fundamental as the observation of the violation of Bell’s inequality, they can indirectly indicate the existence of an entangled state in the system. The measurement system is more stable against fluctuations of the phase than a system without postselection. Furthermore, it has been found that the proposed system is optimal for investigation of cross correlations between interferometers in the dc regime (beyond the paradigm of the violation of Bell’s inequality) because they cannot be generated by coordinated fluctuations of Aharonov-Bohm phases.  相似文献

We analyze the dynamics of entanglement in a two-qubit systeminteracting with an initially squeezed thermal environment via aquantum nondemolition system-reservoir interaction, with the systemand reservoir assumed to be initially separable. We compare andcontrast the decoherence of the two-qubit system in the case wherethe qubits are mutually close-by (`collective regime’) or distant(`localized regime’) with respect to the spatial variation of theenvironment. Sudden death of entanglement (as quantified byconcurrence) is shown to occur in the localized case rather than inthe collective case, where entanglement tends to `ring down’.A consequence of the QND character of the interaction is that thetime-evolved fidelity of a Bell state never falls below \(1/\sqrt{2}\),a fact that is useful for quantum communication applicationslike a quantum repeater. Usinga novel quantification of mixed state entanglement, we show thatthere are noise regimes where even though entanglementvanishes, the state is still available forapplications like NMR quantum computation, because of the presenceof a pseudo-pure component.  相似文献

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of two atoms in a double damping Jaynes-Cummings model. The two atoms are initially in the Bell states and each is in a squeezed vacuum cavity field or coherent cavity field. Compared with the case in coherent field, the atomic entanglement in the squeezed vacuum field is stronger under the same conditions. The results show that we can adopt appropriate parameters such as mean photon number, detuning, the atomic spontaneous decay and the cavity decay, to realize better control of atomic entanglement in quantum information processing. What’s worth mentioning is that proper choosing of the last two parameters enables us to decrease disentanglement period and postpone the moment when the entanglement disappears. Finally, the atomic entanglement in double damping and non-identical Jaynes-Cummings model is obtained

It is known that the global state of a composite quantum system can be completely determined by specifying correlations between measurements performed on subsystems only. Despite the fact that the quantum correlations thus suffice to reconstruct the quantum state, we show, using a Bell inequality argument, that they cannot be regarded as objective local properties of the composite system in question. It is well known since the work of Bell, that one cannot have locally preexistent values for all physical quantities, whether they are deterministic or stochastic. The Bell inequality argument we present here shows this is also impossible for correlations among subsystems of an individual isolated composite system. Neither of them can be used to build up a world consisting of some local realistic structure. As a corrolary to the result we argue that entanglement cannot be considered ontologically robust. The Bell inequality argument has an important advantage over others because it does not need perfect correlations but only statistical correlations. It can therefore easily be tested in currently feasible experiments using four particle entanglement.  相似文献

Quantum entanglement and quantum nonlocality of N-photon entangled states |\psiN m\rangle =Cm[\cos\gamma|N-m\rangle1|m\rangle2 +\e{\i\θm}\sin\gamma|m\rangle1|N-m\rangle2] and their superpositions are studied. We point out that the relative phase θm affects the quantum nonlocality but not the quantum entanglement for the state |\psiN m\rangle. We show that quantum nonlocality can be controlled and manipulated by adjusting the state parameters of |\psiN m\rangle, superposition coefficients, and the azimuthal angles of the Bell operator. We also show that the violation of the Bell inequality can reach its maximal value under certain conditions. It is found that quantum superpositions based on |\psiN m\rangle can increase the amount of entanglement, and give more ways to reach the maximal violation of the Bell inequality.  相似文献

We introduce a new genuinely 2N qubit state, known as the “mirror state” with interesting entanglement properties. The well known Bell and the cluster states form a special case of these “mirror states”, for N = 1 and N = 2 respectively. It can be experimentally realized using SWAP and multiply controlled phase shift operations. After establishing the general conditions for a state to be useful for various communicational protocols involving quantum and classical information, it is shown that the present state can optimally implement algorithms for the quantum teleportation of an arbitrary N qubit state and achieve quantum information splitting in all possible ways. With regard to superdense coding, one can send 2N classical bits by sending only N qubits and consuming N ebits of entanglement. Explicit comparison of the mirror state with the rearranged N Bell pairs and the linear cluster states is considered for these quantum protocols. We also show that mirror states are more robust than the rearranged Bell pairs with respect to a certain class of collisional decoherence.

We show that the rich structure of multipartite entanglement can be tested following a device-independent approach. Specifically we present Bell inequalities for distinguishing between different types of multipartite entanglement, without placing any assumptions on the measurement devices used in the protocol, in contrast with usual entanglement witnesses. We first address the case of three qubits and present Bell inequalities that can be violated by W states but not by Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, and vice versa. Next, we devise 'subcorrelation Bell inequalities' for any number of parties, which can provably not be violated by a broad class of multipartite entangled states (generalizations of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states), but for which violations can be obtained for W states. Our results give insight into the nonlocality of W states. The simplicity and robustness of our tests make them appealing for experiments.  相似文献

In this review, we introduce some methods for detecting or measuring entanglement. Several nonlinear entanglement witnesses are presented. We derive a series of Bell inequalities whose maximally violations for any multipartite qubit states can be calculated by using our formulas. Both the nonlinear entanglement witnesses and the Bell inequalities can be operated experimentally. Thus they supply an effective way for detecting entanglement. We also introduce some experimental methods to measure the entanglement of formation, and the lower bound of the convex-roof extension of negativity.  相似文献

Particle physics has become an interesting testing ground for fundamental questions of quantum mechanics (QM). The massive meson-antimeson systems are specially suitable as they offer a unique laboratory to test various aspects of particle physics ( violation, violation, ...) as well to test the foundations of QM (local realistic theories versus QM, Bell inequalities, decoherence effects, quantum marking and erasure concepts, ...). We focus here on a surprising connection between the violation of a symmetry in particle physics –the symmetry ( =charge conjugation, =parity)– and non-locality. This is achieved via Bell inequalities which discriminate between local realistic theories and QM. Further we present a decoherence model which can be tested by accelerator experiments at the DAΦNE (Italy) and at the KEK-B machine (Japan). We show that there is a simple connection between a decoherence parameter and different measures of entanglement, i.e., entanglement of formation and concurrence. In this way the very basic mathematical and theoretical concepts about entanglement can be confronted directly with experiments. Similar decoherence models can also be tested for entangled photon systems and single neutrons in an interferometer.  相似文献

We propose an entanglement measure for pure M ? N bipartite quantum states. We obtain the measure by generalizing the equivalent measure for a 2 ? 2 system, via a 2 ? 3 system, to the general bipartite case. The measure emphasizes the role Bell states have, both for forming the measure and for experimentally measuring the entanglement. The form of the measure is similar to the generalized concurrence. In the case of 2 ? 3 systems, we prove that our measure, which is directly measurable, equals the concurrence. It is also shown that, in order to measure the entanglement, it is sufficient to measure the projections of the state onto a maximum of M(M ? 1)N(N ? 1)/2 Bell states.  相似文献

Given many independent and identically-distributed (i.i.d.) copies of a quantum system described either by the state ρ or σ (called null and alternative hypotheses, respectively), what is the optimal measurement to learn the identity of the true state? In asymmetric hypothesis testing one is interested in minimizing the probability of mistakenly identifying ρ instead of σ, while requiring that the probability that σ is identified in the place of ρ is bounded by a small fixed number. Quantum Stein’s Lemma identifies the asymptotic exponential rate at which the specified error probability tends to zero as the quantum relative entropy of ρ and σ. We present a generalization of quantum Stein’s Lemma to the situation in which the alternative hypothesis is formed by a family of states, which can moreover be non-i.i.d. We consider sets of states which satisfy a few natural properties, the most important being the closedness under permutations of the copies. We then determine the error rate function in a very similar fashion to quantum Stein’s Lemma, in terms of the quantum relative entropy. Our result has two applications to entanglement theory. First it gives an operational meaning to an entanglement measure known as regularized relative entropy of entanglement. Second, it shows that this measure is faithful, being strictly positive on every entangled state. This implies, in particular, that whenever a multipartite state can be asymptotically converted into another entangled state by local operations and classical communication, the rate of conversion must be non-zero. Therefore, the operational definition of multipartite entanglement is equivalent to its mathematical definition.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the Gaussian entanglement cascading can be realized unconditionally for any nonzero squeezing in all of the entangled sources. We obtain the upper bound of the Gaussian cascaded entanglement, which cannot be exceeded by any entanglement cascading protocol based on Gaussian local operations and classical communications. We then propose an unconditional entanglement cascading protocol that can produce the cascaded entanglement reaching the upper bound. The protocol, as a generalization of the standard continuous variable teleportation, includes two steps: (i) each repeater site locally implements the Bell measurement and classically sends the results to Bob; (ii) Bob optimally displaces his own mode based on these results.  相似文献

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of the two-qubit entanglement quantum system when they transmitted through the Pauli channels and the depolarizing channel both independently or collectively. Making use of the concurrence we found that the entanglement of a kind of mixed two-qubit system defined in this paper can be preserved in the collective Pauli σ y noise channel, but the entanglement of the other kind of mixed two-qubit system can be preserved in the collective Pauli σ z noise channel. Meanwhile, our quantum systems will undergoing the entanglement sudden death (ESD) in collective depolarizing channel when they return to the maximally entangled Bell states. The reason is the Landblad operators in depolarizing channel are non-commuting operators and this finding is in accord with the previous study.  相似文献

From the work by Perrie et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 54, 1790 (1985)], photon pairs from the 2s 1/2 → 1s 1/2 (two-photon) decay of atomic hydrogen are known to be quantum mechanically correlated. In these experiments, the polarization states of the photons emitted in back-to-back geometry were shown to violate the Bell inequality as a qualitative sign of nonlocality and entanglement. In the present contribution, we analyze how these nonlocal quantum correlations, as given by the violation of the Bell inequality, differ from the concurrence as a true entanglement measure. Results are shown for both quantifiers in dependence of the decay geometry and the initial polarization of the atoms for the 2s 1/2 → 1s 1/2 and 3d 5/2 → 1s 1/2 two-photon decay of atomic hydrogen. These results display the difference between nonlocality and entanglement and, hence, may stimulate further experiments on nonlocal quantum correlations in atomic systems.  相似文献

The study of quantum-mechanical violations of Bell inequalities is motivated by the investigation, and the eventual demonstration, of the nonlocal properties of entanglement. In recent years, Bell inequalities have found a fruitful re-formulation using the language of multiplayer games originating from Computer Science. This paper studies the nonlocal properties of entanglement in the context of the simplest such games, called XOR games. When there are two players, it is well known that the maximum bias—the advantage over random play—of players using entanglement can be at most a constant times greater than that of classical players. Recently, Pérez-García et al. (Commun. Mathe. Phys. 279:455, 2008) showed that no such bound holds when there are three or more players: the use of entanglement can provide an unbounded advantage, and scale with the number of questions in the game. Their proof relies on non-trivial results from operator space theory, and gives a non-explicit existence proof, leading to a game with a very large number of questions and only a loose control over the local dimension of the players’ shared entanglement. We give a new, simple and explicit (though still probabilistic) construction of a family of three-player XOR games which achieve a large quantum-classical gap (QC-gap). This QC-gap is exponentially larger than the one given by Pérez-García et. al. in terms of the size of the game, achieving a QC-gap of order ${\sqrt{N}}$ with N 2 questions per player. In terms of the dimension of the entangled state required, we achieve the same (optimal) QC-gap of ${\sqrt{N}}$ for a state of local dimension N per player. Moreover, the optimal entangled strategy is very simple, involving observables defined by tensor products of the Pauli matrices. Additionally, we give the first upper bound on the maximal QC-gap in terms of the number of questions per player, showing that our construction is only quadratically off in that respect. Our results rely on probabilistic estimates on the norm of random matrices and higher-order tensors which may be of independent interest.  相似文献
