We present an analysis of multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced inZ 0 hadronic decays. The results are based on the analysis of 82941 events collected within 100 MeV of theZ 0 peak energy with the OPAL detector at LEP. The charged particle multiplicity distribution, corrected for initial-state radiation and for detector acceptance and resolution, was found to have a mean n ch=21.40±0.02(stat.)±0.43(syst.) and a dispersionD=6.49±0.02(stat.)±0.20(syst.). The shape is well described by the Lognormal and Gamma distributions. A negative binomial parameterisation was found to describe the shape of the multiplicity distribution less well. A comparison with results obtained at lower energies confirms the validity of KNO(-G) scaling up to LEP energies. A separate analysis of events with low sphericity, typically associated with two-jet final states, shows the presence of features expected for models based on a stochastic production mechanism for particles. In all cases, the features observed in the data are well described by the Lund parton shower model JETSET.deceased 25th March 1991  相似文献

The lifetimes of theB 0 andB + mesons have been measured with theAleph detector at LEP, using approximately 3 million hadronic Z decays collected in the period 1991–1994. In the first of three methods, semileptonic decays ofB 0 andB + mesons were partially reconstructed by identifying events containing a lepton with an associatedD* or meson. The second method used fully reconstructedB 0 andB + mesons. The third method, used to measure theB 0 lifetime, employed a partial reconstruction technique to identifyB 0D* π + X decays.  相似文献

We report on an improved measurement of the mass of theZ 0 boson, its total width and its partial decay widths into hadrons and leptons, as well as the effective axial vector and vector couplings to charged leptons. These measurements are based on a data set of approximately 160 000 hadronicZ 0 decays and 18 000 decays into electrons, muons and taus, recorded by the OPAL experiment at centre of mass energies near the mass of theZ 0. The total width and the partial widths to visible final states, derived from the measured cross sections, are used to extract the invisible width. The effective couplings of theZ 0 to charged leptons are studied using measurements of the lepton pair cross sections and forward-backward asymmetries at the different centre of mass energy points of theZ 0 scan. The implications of our results in the context of the Standard Model are discussed. On leave from Research Institute for Computer Peripherals, Hangzhou, China  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis of the multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced inZ 0 hadronic decays in the DELPHI detector. It is based on a sample of 25364 events. The average multiplicity is n ch>=20.71±0.04(stat)±0.77(syst) and the dispersionD=6.28±0.03(stat)±0.43(syst). The data are compared with the results at lower energies and with the predictions of phenomenological models. The Lund parton shower model describes the data reasonably well. The multiplicity distributions show approximate KNO-scaling. They also show positive forward-backward correlations that are strongest in the central region of rapidity and for particles of opposite charge.  相似文献

In the framework of the Multi-Channel Quantum Defect Theory (MQDT), a theoretical study of the dissociative excitation is presented. Numerical results for the dissociative excitation cross sections of HD +, D 2+, and DT + with electrons of energy between 2 and 12 eV are reported. The contribution of the vibrational continua of the two lowest electronic states as explicit ionization channels has been considered. Within a quasi-diabatic representation of the molecular electronic states, the Born expansion of second order is done in the K-matrix evaluation.  相似文献

Results are reported of a study of neutral vector meson production in multihadronicZ 0 decays in the OPAL experiment at LEP. Pions and kaons have been identified by specific ionisation energy loss andK ± andK + K mass spectra have been fitted, in bins of the scaled momentum variablex p , to combinations of resonance signals and non-resonant backgrounds. Rates are given forK *(892)° and ø(1020), and production cross sections are compared to the predictions of Monte Carlo models. Overall multiplicities have been determined as 0.76±0.07±0.06K *(892)° and 0.086±0.015±0.010 ø(1020) per hadronicZ 0 decay (the quoted errors are respectively statistical and systematic). Momentum dependent distortions of the mass spectra, possibly associated indirectly with Bose-Einstein effects, have prevented reliable measurement of the (770)° cross section in this study.  相似文献

The vibrational, rotational, and centrifugal distortion constants have been calculated for the electronic states A 1Σ u + , B 1Πu, C 1Πu, D 1Σ u + , and E 1Σ u + of the Cs2 molecule. The calculation was performed on the basis of the semiempirical potential energy curves constructed in this paper. The calculated spectroscopic constants are compared with the experimental data. A search for light Higgs bosons was performed using the data sample collected in 1990 by the DELPHI detector at LEP, at centre of mass energies between 88.2 and 94.2 GeV. Using the process e+eH 0+Z 0*,Z 0*ff, it is possible to exclude the existence of the standard model Higgs particle with a mass between 0 and 210 MeV/c2 at the 99% confidence level. Extending this analysis to the minimal supersymmetric standard model restricts the lightest neutral Higgs boson to masses above 28 GeV/c2 irrespective of the value of the mixing angle.  相似文献

An experimental Dalitz plot distribution for the decay ηπ + π π 0 is fitted by the theoretical one obtained in chiral perturbation theory with unitarity corrections taken into account. The fit shows that the difference of light-quark masses is larger than is expected from electromagnetic mass differences of neutral and charged kaons. The production of vector boson tagged heavy quark jets potentially provides new tools to probe the jet quenching effect. In this paper, we present the first theoretical study on the angular correlations (\begin{document}$ \Delta\phi_{bZ} $\end{document}), transverse momentum imbalance (\begin{document}$ x_{bZ} $\end{document}), and nuclear modification factor (\begin{document}$ I_{AA} $\end{document}) of \begin{document}$ Z^0 $\end{document} boson tagged b-jets in heavy-ion collisions, which was performed using a Monte Carlo transport model. We find that the medium modification of the \begin{document}$ \Delta\phi_{bZ} $\end{document} for \begin{document}$ Z^0$\end{document} + b-jet has a weaker dependence on \begin{document}$ \Delta\phi_{bZ} $\end{document} than that for \begin{document}$ Z^0$\end{document} + jet, and the modification patterns are sensitive to the initial jet \begin{document}$ p_T $\end{document} distribution. Additionally, with the high purity of the quark jet in \begin{document}$ Z^0$\end{document} + (b-) jet production, we calculate the momentum imbalance \begin{document}$ x_{bZ} $\end{document} and the nuclear modification factor \begin{document}$ I_{AA} $\end{document} of \begin{document}$ Z^0$\end{document} + b-jet in Pb+Pb collisions. We observe a smaller \begin{document}$ \Delta \langle x_{jZ} \rangle $\end{document} and larger \begin{document}$ I_{AA} $\end{document} of \begin{document}$ Z^0$\end{document} + b-jet in Pb+Pb collisions relative to those of \begin{document}$ Z^0$\end{document} + jet, which may be an indication of the mass effect of jet quenching and can be tested in future measurements.  相似文献

The decayB *B has been observed with the DELPHI detector at LEP, where theB * meson is produced inZ boson decays. The combination of inclusively reconstructedB mesons with well-measured converted photons yields a measurement of the flavour-averagedB *-B mass difference of 45.5±0.3 (stat.) ±0.8 (syst.) MeV/c2. 95% confidence level upper limits at 6 MeV/c2 are placed on both the isospin (i.e.B +-B 0) and theB s -B ud splitting of the mass difference. The production ratio ofB * toB mesons inZ decays is measured to be 0.72±0.03 (stat.) ±0.06 (syst.). Limits on the production cross-section of other hypothetical excitedB hadron states decaying radiatively are established. The differentialB * cross section has been measured to be in good agreement with the averageb fragmentation, yielding an average fractionalB * energy of x E =0.695±0.009 (stat.) ±0.013 (syst.). From the decay angular distribution the relative contribution of longitudinalB * polarisation states is measured to be L/(L + T) = 0.32 ± 0.04 (stat.) ±0.03 (syst.).CICYT_AEN93-0832  相似文献

The absolute frequencies of 39 lines in the 0002-0000, 2001-0000, and 1201-0000 bands of N2O in the range 4300–4800 cm?1 have been measured by heterodyne frequency techniques. The lines were each measured in Doppler-limited absorption, with a color-center laser as a tunable probe of the N2O and two stabilized CO2 lasers as reference frequencies. New rovibrational constants have been fitted to these measurements. Tables of calculated transition frequencies are given, with estimated absolute uncertainties as small as 10?4 cm?1. The pressure shifts of four lines have been measured, and the values fall within the range of 0 to ?2 MHz/kPa (0 to ?0.2 MHz/Torr).  相似文献

Predictions of the model that relies on purely one-pion exchange and which describes well GAMS data on the rearrangement of the S-wave mass spectrum of the π 0 π 0 system in the region of the f 0(980) resonance with increasing −t in the reaction π pπ 0 π 0 n are compared with detailed data that were recently obtained at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) for the m and t distributions of the number of events of the reaction π pπ 0 π 0 n. An analysis revealed that these BNL data disagree with the predictions of this model. This suggests that a different mechanism must be responsible for the phenomenon discovered experimentally. Most likely, this is the a 1-exchange mechanism. __________ Translated from Yadernaya Fizika, Vol. 66, No. 2, 2003, pp. 381–387. The multiplicity distributions of charged particles in restricted rapidity intervals inZ 0 hadronic decays measured by the DELPHI detector are presented. The data reveal a shoulder structure, best visible for intervals of intermediate size, i.e. for rapidity limits around ±1.5. The whole set of distributions including the shoulder structure is reproduced by the Lund Parton Shower model. The structure is found to be due to important contributions from 3-and 4-jet events with a hard gluon jet. A different model, based on the concept of independently produced groups of particles, clans, fluctuating both in number per event and particle content per clan, has also been used to analyse the present data. The results show that for each interval of rapidity the average number of clans per event is approximately the same as at lower energies. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Léon Van Hove  相似文献

The multiplicity distributions of charged particles in full phase space and in restricted rapidity intervals for events with a fixed number of jets measured by the DELPHI detector are presented. The data are well reproduced by the Lund Parton Shower model and can also be well described by fitted negative binomial distributions. The properties of these distributions in terms of the clan model are discussed. In symmetric 3-jet events the candidate gluon jet is found not to be significantly different in average multiplicity than the mean of the other two jets, thus supporting previous results of the HRS and OPAL experiments. Similar results hold for events generated according to the LUND PS and to the HERWIG models, when the jets are defined by the JADE jet finding algorithm. The method seems to be insensitive for measuring the color charge ratio between gluons and quarks.  相似文献
