In this work, a new flow regime transition model is proposed for two-phase flows in a vertical annulus. Following previous works, the flow regimes considered are bubbly (B), slug (S) or cap-slug (CS), churn (C) and annular (A). The B to CS transition is modeled using the maximum bubble package criteria of small bubbles. The S to C transition takes place for small annulus perimeter flow channels and it is assumed to occur when the mean void fraction over the entire region exceeds that over the slug–bubble section. If the annulus perimeter is larger that the distorted bubble limit the cap-slug flow regime will be considered since in these conditions it is not possible to distinguish between cap and partial-slug bubbles. The CS to C transition is modeled using the maximum bubble package criteria. However, this transition considers the coalescence of cap and spherical bubbles in order to take into account the flow channel geometry. Finally, the C to A transition is modeled assuming two different mechanisms, (a) flow reversal in the liquid film section along large bubbles; (b) destruction on liquid slugs or large waves by entrainment or deformation. In the S to C and C to A flow regime transitions the annulus flow channel is considered as a rectangular flow channel with no side walls. In all the modeled transitions the drift-flux model is used to obtain the final correlations. The final equations for every flow regime transition are easy to be implemented in computational codes and not experimental input is needed. The prediction accuracy of the newly developed model has been checked against air–water as well as boiling flow regime maps. In all the cases, the new developed model shows better predicting capabilities than the existing correlations most used in literature.  相似文献

In this work radial and axial flow regime development in adiabatic upward air-water two-phase flow in a vertical annulus has been investigated. Local flow regimes have been identified using conductivity probes and neural networks techniques. The inner and outer diameters of the annulus are 19.1 mm and 38.1 mm, respectively. The equivalent hydraulic diameter of the flow channel, DH, is 19.0 mm and the total length is 4.37 m. The flow regime map includes 1080 local flow regimes identifications in 72 flow conditions within a range of 0.01 m/s < 〈jg〉 < 30 m/s and 0.2 m/s < 〈jf〉 < 3.5 m/s where 〈jg〉 and 〈jf〉 are, respectively, superficial gas and liquid velocities. The local flow regime has been classified into four categories: bubbly, cap-slug, churn-turbulent and annular flows. In order to study the radial and axial development of flow regime the measurements have been performed at five radial locations. The three axial positions correspond to z/DH = 52, 149 and 230, where z represents the axial position. The flow regime indicator has been chosen as some statistical parameters of local bubble chord length distributions and self-organized neural networks have been used as mapping system. This information has been also used to compare the results given by the existing flow regime transition models. The local flow regime is characterized basically by the void fraction and bubble chord length. The radial development of flow regime shows partial and complete local flow regime combinations. The radial development is controlled by axial location and superficial liquid velocity. The radial flow regime transition is always initiated in the center of the flow channel and it is propagated towards the channel boundaries. The axial development of flow regime is observed in all the flow maps and it is governed by superficial liquid velocity and radial location. The prediction results of the models are compared for each flow regime transition.  相似文献

Flow regime transition criteria are of practical importance for two-phase flow analyses at reduced gravity conditions. Here, flow regime transition criteria which take the frictional pressure loss effect into account were studied in detail. Criteria at reduced gravity conditions were developed by extending an existing model from normal gravity to reduced gravity conditions. A comparison of the newly developed flow regime transition criteria model with various experimental datasets taken at microgravity conditions showed satisfactory agreement. Sample computations of the model were performed at various gravity conditions, such as 0.196, 1.62, 3.71 and 9.81 m/s2 corresponding to micro-gravity and lunar, Martian and Earth surface gravity, respectively. It was found that the effect of gravity on bubbly–slug and slug–annular (churn) transitions in a two-phase flow system was more pronounced at low liquid flow conditions, whereas the gravity effect could be ignored at high mixture volumetric flux conditions. While for the annular flow transitions due to flow reversal and onset of droplet entrainment, higher superficial gas velocity was obtained at higher gravity level.  相似文献

Liquid film flow due to an unsteady stretching sheet   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have studied two-dimensional flow of a thin liquid film over an impulsively stretching sheet under assumption of uniform initial film thickness. Using singular perturbation technique both momentum and film evolution equations are solved analytically for small Reynolds number and these solutions are verified numerically. Numerical computation for large Reynolds number shows an anomalous behaviour of film thinning rate in different time zone. These results are explained physically and the crucial role-played by viscosity in this case is highlighted. It is found that faster rate of thinning can be obtained if the sheet is stretched impulsively with continuously increasing stretching speed.  相似文献

We present a new discharge coefficient correction method for the orifice equation for R-123 two-phase flows. In this method, an evaporator is mounted after the orifice as a vapor refrigeration cycle, and the evaporator is used to measure the quality of downstream flow through the orifice. Quality is estimated from the measured temperature and pressure of the evaporator inlet and outlet, respectively, instead of by direct measurement of quality. The condition of upstream flow of the orifice is the liquid state at 3 bar and 60 °C. The liquid flow is changed to two-phase flow after passing through the orifice. Orifice diameters of 300, 350, 400, and 450 μm are used for the experiment, and the results are analyzed. Experiments are conducted for various conditions of flow rate between 20 and 70 ml/min and for cooling loads of 60, 80, and 100 W. The results show that the quality of flow downstream from the orifice can be calculated using the enthalpy difference between the inlet and outlet of the evaporator. An equation to determine the discharge coefficient is formulated as a function of quality. We expect that these results can be used to help design a small cooling system.  相似文献

A steady flow problem of a viscous, incompressible fluid through an orifice is widely applicable to many physical phenomena and has been studied previously by many researchers. A problem of such type has been solved by applying LAD method given by Roache [1]. The resulting system of linear equations is solved by Hockney's method [2].  相似文献

Mackay et al. (1995) have presented an approximate technique to determine the elongation viscosity from pressure drop measurements in a simple stagnation flow device. In the present paper we describe experiments using a high viscosity Newtonian oil, aimed at probing some of the assumptions made by Mackay et al. We find that Trouton ratios calculated using the original analysis are well above the value of three expected for Newtonian fluids. Finite element simulations of the flow field show this is due to the net pressure drop having a substantial shear contribution, which should be corrected for before the Trouton ratios are evaluated. Interestingly, most of the shear correction is due to shear on the inside of the orifice near the exit from the central flow region. The shear contribution to the pressure drop occurs for all flow rates, however, at large flow rates there is also an inertial correction to the pressure drop. In this paper we describe an approximate method that corrects for both shear and inertial effects. With these effects recognised and corrected for, the measured Trouton ratios are reduced to around three. Received: 15 December 1997 Accepted: 16 March 1998  相似文献

This paper presents an infinite series solution to the creeping flow equations for the axisymmetric motion of a sphere of arbitrary size rotating in a quiescent fluid around the axis of a circular orifice or a circular disk whose diameters are either larger or smaller than that of the sphere. Numerical tests of the convergence are passed and the comparison with the exact solution and other computational results shows an agreement to five significant figures for the torque coefficients in both cases. The torque coefficients are obtained for the sphere located up to a position tangent to the wall plane containing either the orifice or the disk. It is concluded that the torque coefficients of the sphere and the disk are monotonically increasing with the decrease of the distance from the disk or the orifice plane in both cases.  相似文献

This paper studies the presence of the bistable flow activity around inclined cable models. It presents results from wind tunnel test on static original High-Density Polyethylene cable covers in a range of Reynolds numbers from the subcritical to the critical regime, inclined at angles of 90°(vertical), 60°and 45°. It has already been shown that, in the critical regime, turbulent transition in the boundary layers around a circular cylinder exhibits bistable behavior at zero inclination, i.e. the boundary layer on either side is intermittently turbulent or laminar, leading to intermittent asymmetry of the flow and resulting aerodynamic loads. The present wind tunnel tests consist in measuring the pressure patterns around inclined circular cylinders using numerous pressure taps. Bifurcation diagrams are created in order to quantify the occurrence of bistability and Proper Orthogonal Decomposition is used to identify the geometrical flow modes that are governed by the bistability. The results show that the bistable phenomenon is only identified in the Reynolds number range corresponding to the first transition between the TrBL0 and TrBL1 regimes. Furthermore, the inclination angle seems to have a significant impact on the energy of the flow mode related to unsteady asymmetric reattachment. This paper also treats the potential sensitivity of the aerodynamic drag and lift forces to the circularity defect of the covers and presents the positive impact of the helical fillet on controlling the bistable activity at a critical inclination angle of 60°.  相似文献

Flow visualization and LDV measurements are performed on laminar flow in a helical square duct with finite pitch. The experimental observations are compared to results of numerical calculations employing the finite-volume method and assuming a fully developed flow. Good agreement is found between measured and computed velocity profiles. This suggests that the physical velocity components used in the numerical calculations are suitable to describe the flow. It is further demonstrated that the contravariant velocity components employed by some authors may lead to results that are difficult to interpret. Two stable solution branches are detected in the numerical calculations. For Reynolds numbers between the stable branches, unsteady and fully developed computations predict an oscillating flow between a two-vortex and a four-vortex structure. In the experiments, the flow normally retained a stable two-vortex structure in the numerically predicted unstable regime. However, by disturbing the flow at the duct inlet, a four-vortex flow that showed similarities to the computed flow could occasionally be obtained. For Reynolds numbers above 600, unsteady flow behavior was observed both experimentally and numerically, which might be an early sign of transition. In the experiments, Gdrtler-like extra vortices emerged spontaneously from the outer wall without disturbing the flow at the inlet. The same phenomenon was observed in the numerical calculations, assuming an unsteady and fully developed flow, but the extra vortices appeared with a lower frequency than in the experiments.  相似文献

Experiments on an axisymmetric dual-bell nozzle were performed at EDITH nozzle test facility of CNRS in Orléans, France. The main purpose of the study was to explore the possibility of controlling the flow regime transition by a secondary fluidic injection in the dual bell nozzle. The main focus of the present paper is to investigate the impact of the secondary injection parameters on the flow regimes transition in such nozzles. Secondary injection has been found to effectively control the flow regime transition and consequently to increase the propulsive performance of the device. It has also been pointed out that even a very low injected secondary mass flow rate leads to the control of the transition and contributes to reducing the lateral loads which can exist, moreover, when transitions are operated without injection.  相似文献

The influence of the inlet flow formation mode on the steady flow regime in a circular pipe has been investigated experimentally. For a given inlet flow formation mode the Reynolds number Re* at which the transition from laminar to turbulent steady flow occurred was determined. With decrease in the Reynolds number the difference between the resistance coefficients for laminar and turbulent flows decreases. At a Reynolds number approximately equal to 1000 the resistance coefficients calculated from the Hagen-Poiseuille formula for laminar steady flow and from the Prandtl formula for turbulent steady flow are equal. Therefore, we may assume that at Re > 1000 steady pipe flow can only be laminar and in this case it is meaningless to speak of a transition from one steady pipe flow regime to the other. The previously published results [1–9] show that the Reynolds number at which laminar goes over into turbulent steady flow decreases with increase in the intensity of the inlet pulsations. However, at the highest inlet pulsation intensities realized experimentally, turbulent flow was observed only at Reynolds numbers higher than a certain value, which in different experiments varied over the range 1900–2320 [10]. In spite of this scatter, it has been assumed that in the experiments a so-called lower critical Reynolds number was determined, such that at higher Reynolds numbers turbulent flow can be observed and at lower Reynolds numbers for any inlet perturbations only steady laminar flow can be realized. In contrast to the lower critical Reynolds number, the Re* values obtained in the present study, were determined for given (not arbitrary) inlet flow formation modes. In this study, it is experimentally shown that the Re* values depend not only on the pipe inlet pulsation intensity but also on the pulsation flow pattern. This result suggests that in the previous experiments the Re* values were determined and that their scatter is related with the different pulsation flow patterns at the pipe inlet. The experimental data so far obtained are insufficient either to determine the lower critical Reynolds number or even to assert that this number exists for a pipe at all.  相似文献

Jet formation was studied in the region of two-dimensional and three-dimensional waves in a heated liquid film flowing down a vertical surface. Jet-to-jet spacings were measured versus the film Reynolds number and the heat flow density. Three-dimensional waves on the film surface were formed naturally or by artificial perturbations. In addition to the thermocapillary mechanism of jet formation, a thermocapillary–wavy mechanism was found to exist.  相似文献

The effect of liquid viscosity on the initiation of slug flow was studied in horizontal 2.52 and 9.53 cm pipelines. The results show the stabilizing effect of viscosity predicted by Lin & Hanratty, and are at variance with analyses which use a long-wavelength inviscid approximation. For very viscous liquids a stability analysis which recognizes that slugs originate from a train of small-wavelength sinusoidal waves seems consistent with the measurements.  相似文献

In this paper, the flow of a visco-elastic liquid between two parallel plates has been studied when one plate is stationary and the other plate suddenly starts oscillating. Both finite Fourier sine transform and Laplace transform technique have been employed to solve the basic differential equations. The flow phenomenon has been characterized by the parameters, and and the effects of these on the flow characteristics have been studied through several graphs.Late professor of the department, who died in an accident on 7th July 1978.  相似文献

In this research, the effect of flow regime change from subsonic to transonic on the air loads of a pitching NACA0012 airfoil is investigated. To do this, the effect of change in flow regime on the lift and pitching moment coefficients hysteresis cycles is studied. The harmonic balance approach is utilized for numerical calculation due to its low computational time. Verifications are also made with previous works and good agreements are observed. The assessment of flow regime change on the aforementioned hysteresis cycles is accomplished in the Mach number range of M=0.65–0.755. The reduced frequency and pitch amplitude also vary from k=0.03 to 0.1 and α0=1–2.51°, respectively. Results show that the effect of increase in Mach number is to increase and decrease the lift coefficient during downstroke and upstroke, respectively, whereas at low reduced frequencies, the effect of increase in Mach number may lead to a reverse manner when airfoil moves toward its extremum angle of attack. Results also reveal that as the pitch amplitude varies, the shape of lift coefficient hysteresis cycle depends more on the pitch amplitude than on the appearance of shock. It is shown that as the Mach number increases, the incidence angles correspond to the extremum pitching moment, and depending on the reduced frequency, lie between zero and extremum angle of attack. These incidence angles shift toward the extremum angle of attack as the reduced frequency decreases. Results also show that the increase in pitch amplitude at low Mach number, in such a way that leads to the formation of shock around the extremum angle of attack, causes the extremum pitching moment to appear around these angles and at high Mach number, depending on the reduced frequency, the extremum pitching moment incidence angles would be between zero and extremum incidence angle.  相似文献

The concurrent upward two-phase flow of air and water in a long vertical large diameter pipe with an inner diameter (D) of 200 mm and a height (z) of 26 m (z/D = 130) was investigated experimentally at low superficial liquid velocities from 0.05009 to 0.3121 m/s and the superficial gas velocities from 0.01779 to 0.5069 m/s. The resultant void fractions range from 0.03579 to 0.4059. According to the observations using a high speed video camera, the flow regimes of bubbly, developing cap bubbly and fully-developed cap bubbly flows prevailed in the flows. The developing cap bubbly flow appeared as a flow regime transition from bubbly to fully-developed cap bubble flow in the vertical large diameter pipe. The developing cap bubbly flow changes gradually and lasts for a long time period and a wide axial region in the flow direction, in contrast to a sudden transition from bubbly to slug flows in a small diameter pipe. The analysis in this study showed that the flow regime transition depends not only on the void fraction but also on the axial distance in the flow and the pipe diameter. The axial flow development brings about the transition to happen in a lower void fraction flow and the increase of pipe diameter causes the transition to happen in a higher void fraction flow. The measured void fraction showed an N-shaped axial changing manner that the void fraction increases monotonously with axial position in the bubbly flow, decreases non-monotonously with axial position in the developing cap bubbly flow, and increases monotonously again with axial position in the fully-developed cap bubbly flow. The temporary void fraction decrease phenomenon in the transition region from bubbly to cap bubbly flow can be attributed to the formation of medium to large cap bubbles and their gradual growth into the maximum size of cap bubble and/or cluster of large cap bubbles in the developing cap bubbly flow. In order to predict the N-shaped axial void fraction changing behaviors in the flow regime transition from bubbly to cap bubbly flow, the existing 12 drift flux correlation sets for large diameter pipes are reviewed and their predictabilities are studied against the present experimental data. Although some drift flux correlation sets, such as those of Clark and Flemmer (1986) and Hibiki and Ishii (2003), can predict the present experimental data with reasonable average relative deviations, no drift flux correlation set for distribution parameter and drift velocity can give a reliable prediction for the observed N-shaped axial void fraction changing behaviors in the region from bubbly to cap bubbly flow in a vertical large diameter pipe.  相似文献

This paper describes flow around a pair of cylinders in tandem arrangement with a downstream cylinder being fixed or forced to oscillate transversely. A sinusoidal parietal velocity is applied to simulate cylinder oscillation. Time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations are solved using finite element method. It is shown that there exist two distinct flow regimes: ‘vortex suppression regime’ and ‘vortex formation regime’. Averaged vortex lengths between the two cylinders, pressure variations at back and front stagnant points as well as circumferential pressure profiles of the downstream cylinder are found completely different in the two regimes and, thus, can be used to identify the flow regimes. It is shown that frequency selection in the wake of the oscillating cylinder is a result of non-linear interaction among vortex wakes upstream and downstream of the second cylinder and its forced oscillation. Increasing cylinder spacing results in a stronger oscillatory incident flow upstream of the second cylinder and, thus, a smaller synchronization zone.  相似文献

A constitutive relationship is developed to characterize the flow of high velocity, compressible, heated gases through concrete. This relationship equates a nondimensional flow parameter with pressure and temperature ratios across the medium. The key premise is that the resistance to flow through a porous medium can be modeled with friction coefficients analogous to the method used for simpler geometries. The utility of a porous media compressible flow parameter is appraised by comparing it with the Forchheimer equation modified for an ideal gas. There is little difference in adiabatic flow rates predicted by the two relationships. The Forchheimer equation does not account for the effects of heating. The flow parameter predicts mass flows through a slab of concrete to decrease by nearly 50% when this medium is heated from 25 to 350C.  相似文献

The governing non-linear high-order, sixth-order in space and third-order in time, differential equation is constructed for the unsteady flow of an incompressible conducting fourth-grade fluid in a semi-infinite domain. The unsteady flow is induced by a periodically oscillating two-dimensional infinite porous plate with suction/blowing, located in a uniform magnetic field. It is shown that by augmenting additional boundary conditions at infinity based on asymptotic structures and transforming the semi-infinite physical space to a bounded computational domain by means of a coordinate transformation, it is possible to obtain numerical solutions of the non-linear magnetohydrodynamic equation. In particular, due to the unsymmetry of the boundary conditions, in numerical simulations non-central difference schemes are constructed and employed to approximate the emerging higher-order spatial derivatives. Effects of material parameters, uniform suction or blowing past the porous plate, exerted magnetic field and oscillation frequency of the plate on the time-dependent flow, especially on the boundary layer structure near the plate, are numerically analysed and discussed. The flow behaviour of the fourth-grade non-Newtonian fluid is also compared with those of the Newtonian fluid.  相似文献
