This article deals with a transformation on real sequences and studies under which conditions the new sequence is surely weakly well distributed. Furthermore a condition is presented when the new sequence is surely not well distributed. Both theorems can be generalized to Abelian compact divisible groups with countable base.

The famous needle-problem of Buffon leads — as is well known — to a method to approximate with probability 1 with empirical tests. In this article, the value of approximation is treated in the case when the discrepancy of the basic random sequence is known. Some generalizations of the problem are also considered.

We denote with PC ^m the m-dimensional complex projective space, with U the unitary group acting on it with z _i(j=0, 1,..., m) the homogenous coordinates of a point [z] of PC ^m and assume that the z _i are normalized such that z ₀z₀ +...+z _mz_m=1. Furthermore we denote the U-invariant metric on PC ^m with d. We consider now a uniformly distributed sequence ([z] _k ; k=1,2,...) of points on PC ^m and study the sequence (d ^l([z] _k , [z]₀)), l0, [z]₀ a fixed point. We prove with the help of the theory of uniform distribution properties of this sequence. We consider furthermore a dual sequence suggested by the theory of H. Weyl and L. V. Ahlfors on meromorphic curves.

Lineare Gleichverteilung

In this paper a new concept of uniform distribution is defined which-unlike the usual definitions-does not depend on a measure-theoretical structure, but on a linear metric structure. It is shown that this concept coincides with the classical one in the s-dimensional real space. Furthermore, an explicit example shows that the concept is applicable in infinite-dimensional vector spaces: a sequence {x_k}?c_o is constructed which is linearly uniformly distributed.

Die dabei zu verwendenden Methoden werden natürlich auch außerhalb dieses speziellen Anwendungsgebietes, insbesondere in der Variationsrechnung, von Nutzen sein. Auch für die Theorie der Randwertaufgaben allgemeiner nichtlinearer gewöhnlicher Differentialgleichungen zweiter Ordnung wird sich mancher Beitrag ergeben.
