Three-dimensional optical measurement of instantaneous pressure   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Local perturbations in material density induced in a material by a compressional wave give rise to local perturbations in refractive index. Accurate, high-resolution, three-dimensional, optical measurements of an instantaneous refractive index perturbation in a homogeneous, optically transparent medium may be obtained from measurements of scattered optical intensity alone. The method of generalized projections allows incorporation of optical intensity measurements into an iterative algorithm for computing the phase of the interrogating optical pulse as the solution of a fixed point equation. The complex optical field amplitude, computed in this manner, is unique up to a constant unit magnitude complex coefficient. The three-dimensional refractive index distribution may be computed via the Fourier slice reconstruction algorithm from the optical phase data under the assumption of weak optical scattering. The refractive index perturbation is related to local instantaneous pressure under a linear, small-displacement model for the mechanical wave. A numerical simulation of the measurement experiment, phase recovery, and reconstruction process for a plane piston ultrasound transducer with a semicircular aperture and center frequency of 1.5 MHz is described and corresponds very well with experiment. Experimental data obtained using an 810-nm laser source are used to reconstruct the three-dimensional pressure field from two elements of a 2.5-MHz linear array. Comparison with a measurement obtained via a 500-microm needle hydrophone shows excellent agreement.  相似文献

对光折变有机聚合物中的双色光空间孤子进行了理论分析,证明双色信号光的两个频率成分相互作用可以在折射率改变为正的光折变有机聚合物中形成暗暗和亮暗空间孤子,在折射率改变为负的光折变有机聚合物中形成亮亮和亮暗空间孤子。与单色光孤子的情况不同,对于双色光孤子情况,通过与一形成暗孤子的频率成分相互作用,另一频率成分在折射率改变为正的有机聚合物中也可形成亮孤子;通过与一形成亮孤子的频率成分相互作用,另一频率成分在折射率改变为负的材料中也可形成暗孤子。  相似文献

A new approach to the steady-state solution of the optical power flow equation in multimode fibres is presented. It takes into account the dependence on the modulation frequency of the optical guided power, starting from a very general trial solution. The steady-state attenuation coefficient and optical power distribution (in amplitude and delay) can be numerically evaluated for any kind of index profile and fibre perturbation.  相似文献

The refractive index profile of buried graded-index planar optical waveguides fabricated by ion migration can be described by a buried secant hyperbolic function. Using such a profile, we have obtained the exact propagation characteristics for such buried optical waveguides. We have also shown that profiles which deviate slightly from the above profile can be treated as perturbations and a first-order perturbation correction gives very accurate results.  相似文献

Silicon-rich SiGe alloys represent a promising platform for the development of large-area single-mode optical waveguides to be integrated in silicon-based optical circuits. We find that SiGe layers epitaxially grown on Si successfully guide radiation with a 1.55 μm wavelength, but, beyond a critical core thickness, their optical properties are strongly affected by the clustering of misfit dislocations at the interface between Si and SiGe, leading to a significant perturbation of the local refractive index. Transmission electron microscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy, together with finite-element simulations, provide a complete analysis of the impact of dislocations on optical propagation.  相似文献

The conditions for the onset of modulation instability of wave packets in an optical waveguide in the presence of the traveling refractive index wave are investigated. An expression governing the growth rate of a small harmonic perturbation at the early development stage of the modulation instability is obtained. Based on numerical analysis, the behavior of the wave packet at the developed modulation instability stage is studied for different parameters of the waveguide and the refractive index wave.  相似文献

A simple perturbation theory has been used to study the characteristics of low-V, step-index optical fibres with a dip in the centre of the refractive index profile. Analytical expressions have been derived for the cut-off frequency and propagation constant of an arbitrary mode on such a fibre. In particular, it has been shown that even when the dip is quite large, the perturbation theory results for the propagation constant of the fundamental mode and cut-off frequency of the second mode are virtually indistinguishable from exact numerical results calculated by series expansion techniques.  相似文献

In this article simultaneous effects of external electric field and spin-orbit interaction on the linear and the nonlinear optical properties of a cubic quantum dot are studied. Based on the non- degenerate perturbation method, energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the system under the influence of spin-orbit interaction are calculated. Furthermore, the linear and the nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes are obtained using the compact density matrix approach and iterative method. Our results show that, due to the spin-orbit interaction, resonant peak values of the optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes decrease and occur at lower values of the incident photon energy. The variation of these optical parameters depend on the spin-orbit interaction strength, dot dimensions and external electric field.  相似文献

The time reversibility of optical propagation impedes the definite performance of many optical devices, such as couplers, polarization converters, etc. We suggest a novel concept in which we use media with loss and gain, thus breaking the time-reversal characteristics, to achieve a unidirectional optical mode interference and coupling, which is a desirable feature for light-wave circuits. Using a matched periodic modulation of both the index of refraction and loss (gain) of the medium, we implement a spatially single sideband perturbation, which breaks the symmetry to allow only a unidirectional energy transfer from mode m to mode n of the optical structure. We elaborate on this phenomenon in coupling between two modes of a multimode optical waveguide.  相似文献

将有限元法和传输矩阵法相结合,系统地研究了保偏微结构光纤(PM-MOF)啁啾布拉格光栅的折射率传感特性。仿真研究了光纤空气孔中充入不同折射率被测物时啁啾光栅的反射谱,结果表明随着被测物折射率的增加,反射谱的面积出现明显变化,由此得到了光栅反射谱面积与被测物折射率的关系。分析了中心孔直径、啁啾系数、切趾函数等光栅结构参数对反射谱的影响。分析表明由于光纤两个方向的偏振模对温度、噪声等干扰响应相似,因此利用两个偏振模式反射谱的相对变化进行监测能够有效地降低干扰,提高传感器的稳定性;其次,由于反射谱面积正比于光强,这一方法将光栅的光谱解调转化为光强解调,简化了解调系统,便于现场实时测量。研究结果为保偏微结构光纤光栅在折射率传感器及其生物传感器方面的应用提供了理论依据。  相似文献

本文应用耦合波理论来计算任意渐变折射李光纤的传播常数和模场分布.将无限伸展的抛物型折射率分布光纤作为一个理想波导,任意径向不均匀折射率分布光纤便可以视作该理想波导的微扰,其模场可以展开成一组完备的理想波导模的叠加.然后,模场和传播常数可以通过耦合波方程求得.进一步将一阶微分方程组形式的耦合波方程变换成线性方程组,使计算过程大大简化.文中给出了数值计算结果,并将其与准确值进行了比较.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the spatiotemporal dynamics of left-handed materials that contain nonlinear cavities. These materials, having a negative refractive index, exhibit a nonlinear electromagnetic behavior. The insertion of the left-handed material into an optical cavity results into a variety of branching behavior of optical oscillators that are degenerate. The optical Kerr cavity considered in this work contains a cubic nonlinearity. The objective of this work was to investigate how branching behavior can yield useful information about the relative amount of left-handed and right-handed material controlling the diffraction in cavity. We will apply the reductive perturbation method-based multi-equation bifurcation theory to a scalar nonlinear Schrodinger equation and show how period-doubling occurs during optical wave propagation.  相似文献

We demonstrate electrically pumped InGaAsP two-dimensional Bragg grating (2DBG) lasers with two line defects. The 2DBG structure uses a weak 2D index perturbation surface grating to control the optical modes in the plane of the wafer. Measurements of the 2DBG lasers show that modal control in both the longitudinal and transverse directions is due to the gratings and defects. The 2DBG lasers are promising candidates for single-mode, high power, and high efficiency large-area lasers.  相似文献

We predict that surface optical Bloch oscillations can exist in semi-infinite waveguide arrays with a linear index variation, if the array parameters close to the boundary are appropriately perturbed. The perturbation is such that the surface states obtain the Wannier-Stark ladder eigenvalues of the unperturbed infinite array. The number of waveguides, whose parameters need to be controlled, decreases with increasing ratio of index gradient over coupling. The configuration can find applications as a "matched" termination of waveguide arrays to eliminate the distortion of Bloch oscillations due to reflection on the boundaries.  相似文献

Here we demonstrate a unique optical sensing scheme based on deep-UV photochemical perturbation in combination with difference spectroscopy. Applying a sequence of optical probing, UV-laser-induced perturbation, and repeat optical probing coupled with difference spectroscopy provides a new spectral signature. We show a selective (sevenfold difference) optical response using a fluorescence probe for binary mixtures of organic dyes, and generate complementary spectral information derived from Raman scattering of the dipeptide glycine-glycine. We further extend the methodology to fluorescence-based imaging of an organic matrix.  相似文献

The refractive index (RI) of light propagating in a medium of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is studied. The weakly coupled QGP is studied in the framework of hard-thermal-loop (HTL) perturbation theory, and the strongly coupled one is treated based on the holographic approach. In more realistic setups, the feasibility of observing the optical phenomenon related to the RI of QGP is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper studies the optical soliton perturbation by the aid of soliton perturbation theory. The various perturbation terms, that arise in the study of optical solitons, are exhaustively studied in this paper. The adiabatic parameter dynamics of optical solitons are obtained in presence of these perturbation terms.
