Silica-polyimide microcomposite membranes were prepared on γ-alumina-coated α-alumina support tubes, and their gas permeation properties were evaluated with He, N2 and CO2. Smoothing of the substrate surface and hybridization of silica and polyamic acid were both effective to form defect-free thin composite membranes. The CO2 permeance of a membrane with a silica content of 68 wt% was one order of magnitude higher than that of a polyimide membrane having the same thickness. The permselectivity of CO2 to N2 was 30 at 30°C and 13 at 100°C. Contributions of the silica and polyimide phases to permeance of the composite membrane were analyzed with a two-phase permeation model. The effective thickness of the rate-controlling polyimide phase was less than one-tenth of the total thickness of the silica-polyimide membrane.  相似文献

To functionalize poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC) for various applications, monomers containing tertiary amine group are incorporated into PVC via atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) initiated by the labile chlorines in their backbones. The kinetics of synthesis was carefully investigated, and it is proven that the grafting polymerization process can be effectively controlled by regulating the reaction time. The membranes are fabricated using PVC and copolymers by non-solvent induced phase separation(NIPS) process. The hydrophilicity and pore structure of copolymer membranes were enhanced as well, these membranes are endowed with positive charge. When PDMA%(i.e., the PDMA weight percentage in copolymer) is 31.1%, the flux and Victoria blue B rejection are 26.0 L?m?2?h?1(0.5 MPa) and 91.2%, respectively. Thus, the newly synthesized polymer is proven to be a promising material for dye separation with positive charges.  相似文献

A series of copolymers containing ether oxygen groups and amino groups were prepared based on N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMEMA) and polyethylene glycol methyl ether methyl acrylate (PEGMEMA). The effect of PEGMEMA content in the copolymer on density, free volume, mechanical performance, and H2, CO2, N2 and CH4 gas transport properties of the copolymer was determined. Free volume was characterized using the polymer density and group contribution theory. The permeability of the copolymer to CO2 is high, and both the CO2/N2 and CO2/H2 selectivities are high. For example, the permeability coefficient of PDMAEMA–PEGMEMA-90 (“90” represents the weight percent of PEGMEMA) to CO2 is 112 Barrer and the CO2/N2 and CO2/H2 selectivity coefficients are 31 and 7, respectively. The effect of the temperature on gas transport properties was also determined. Finally, the potential application of the copolymer membranes for CO2/light gases separation was explored.  相似文献

N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan (NOCC) composite nanofiltration membranes having a polysulfone (PS) UF membrane as the substrate were prepared using a method of coating and cross-linking, in which a glutaraldehyde (GA) aqueous solution was used as the cross-linking agent. Attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) was employed to characterize the resulting membrane. The effects of the composition of the casting solution of the active layer, the concentration of the cross-linking agent, and the membrane preparation techniques on the performance of the composite membrane were investigated. At 13–15 °C and 0.40 MPa the rejections of the resulting membrane to Na2SO4 and NaCl solutions (1000 mg L−1) were 92.7 and 30.2%, respectively, and the permeate fluxes were 3.0 and 5.1 kg m−2 h−1, respectively. The rejection of this kind of membrane to the electrolyte solutions decreased in the order of Na2SO4, NaCl, MgSO4, and MgCl2. This suggests that the membrane active layer acquires a negative surface charge distribution by the adsorption of anions from the electrolyte solution and this charge distribution mainly determines the membrane performance.  相似文献

In the present work, membranes from commercially available Pebax® MH 1657 and its blends with low molecular weight poly(ethylene glycol) PEG were prepared by using a simple binary solvent (ethanol/water). Dense film membranes show excellent compatibility with PEG system up to 50 wt.% of content. Gas transport properties have been determined for four gases (H2, N2, CH4, CO2) and the obtained permeabilities were correlated with polymer properties and morphology of the membranes. The permeability of CO2 in Pebax®/PEG membrane (50 wt.% of PEG) was increased two fold regarding to the pristine Pebax®. Although CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity remained constant, an enhancement of CO2/H2 selectivity (∼11) was observed. These results were attributed to the presence of EO units which increases CO2 permeability, and to a probable increase of fractional free-volume. Furthermore, for free-volume discussion and permeability of gases, additive and Maxwell models were used.  相似文献

Composite hollow fibers membranes were prepared by coating poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) and polysulfone (PSf) hollow fibers with high molecular polyvinylamine (PVAm). Two procedures of coating hollow fibers outside and respective inside were investigated with respect to intrinsic PVAm solution properties and hollow fibers geometry and material. The influence of operating mode (sweep or vacuum) on the performances of membranes was investigated. Vacuum operating mode gave better results than using sweep because part of the sweep gas permeated into feed and induced an extra resistance to the most permeable gas the CO2. The composite PVAm/PSf HF membranes having a 0.7–1.5 μm PVAm selective layer, showed CO2/N2 selectivity between 100 and 230. The selectivity was attributed to the CO2 facilitated transport imposed by PVAm selective layer. The CO2 permeance changed from 0.006 to 0.022 m3(STP)/(m2 bar h) in direct correlation with CO2 permeance and separation mechanism of the individual porous supports used for membrane fabrication. The multilayer PVAm/PPO membrane using as support PPO hollow fibers with a 40 nm PPO dense skin layer, surprisingly presented an increase in selectivity with the increase in CO2 partial pressure. This trend was opposite to the facilitated transport characteristic behaviour of PVAm/porous PSf. This indicated that PVAm/PPO membrane represents a new membrane, with new properties and a hybrid mechanism, extremely stable at high pressure ratios. The CO2/N2 selectivity ranged between 20 and 500 and the CO2 permeance from 0.11 to 2.3 m3(STP)/(m2 bar h) depending on the operating conditions. For both PVAm/PSf and PVAm/PPO membranes, the CO2 permeance was similar with the CO2 permeance of uncoated hollow fiber supports, confirming that the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step resides in the properties of the relatively thick support, not at the level of 1.2 μm thin and water swollen PVAm selective layer. A dynamic transfer of the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step between PVAm top layer and PPO support was observed by changing the feed relative humidity (RH%). The CO2 diffusion rate was controlled by the PPO support when using humid feed. At low feed humidity the 1.2 μm PVAm top layer becomes the CO2 diffusion rate limiting step.  相似文献

Pervaporation (PV) separation of water + isopropanol and water + 1,4-dioxane mixtures has been attempted using the blend membranes of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with 5 wt.% of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). These results have been compared with the plain PVA membrane. Both plain PVA and PVA/PMMA blend membranes have been crosslinked with glutaraldehyde in an acidic medium. The membranes were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and universal testing machine. Pervaporation separation experiments have been performed at 30 °C for 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 wt.% of feed water mixtures containing isopropanol as well as 1,4-dioxane. PVA/PMMA blend membrane has shown a selectivity of 400 for 10 wt.% of water in water + isopropanol feed, while for water + 1,4-dioxane feed mixture, membrane selectivity to water was 104 at 30 °C. For both the feed mixtures, selectivity for the blend membrane was higher than that observed for plain PVA membrane, but flux of the blend membrane was lower than that observed for the plain PVA membrane. Membranes of this study are able to remove as much as 98 wt.% of water from the feed mixtures of water + isopropanol, while 92 wt.% of water was removed from water + 1,4-dioxane feed mixtures at 30 °C. Flux of water increased for both the feed mixtures, while the selectivity decreased at higher feed water concentrations. The same trends were observed at 40 and 50 °C for 10, 15 and 20 wt.% of water mixtures containing isopropanol as well as 1,4-dioxane feed mixtures, which also covered their azeotropic composition ranges. Membrane performance was studied by calculating flux (Jp), selectivity (), pervaporation separation index (PSI) and enrichment factor (β). Permeation flux followed the Arrhenius trend over the range of temperatures investigated. It was found that by introducing a hydrophobic PMMA polymer into a hydrophilic PVA, the selectivity increased dramatically, while flux decreased compared to plain PVA, due to a loss in PVA chain relaxation.  相似文献

Polyallylamine (PAAm) was synthesized by free radical polymerization and characterized by Fourier transform infrared resonance (FT-IR) spectroscopy, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The composite membranes were prepared by using PAAm–poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) blend polymer as the separation layer and polysulfone (PSF) ultrafiltration membranes as the support layer. The surface and cross-section morphology of the membrane was inspected by environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). The gas transport property of the membranes, including gas permeance, flux and selectivity, were investigated by using pure CO2, N2, CH4 gases and CO2/N2 gas mixture (20 vol% CO2 and 80 vol% N2) and CO2/CH4 gas mixture (10 vol% CO2 and 90 vol% CH4). The plots of gas permeance or flux versus feed gas pressure imply that CO2 permeation through the membranes follows facilitated transport mechanism whereas N2 and CH4 permeation follows solution–diffusion mechanism. Effect of PAAm content in the separation layer on gas transport property was investigated by measuring the membranes with 0–50 wt% PAAm content. With increasing PAAm content, gas permeance increases initially, reaches a maximum, and then decreases gradually. For CO2/N2 gas mixture, the membranes with 10 wt% PAAm content show the highest CO2 permeance of about 1.80 × 10−5 cm3 (STP) cm−2 s−1 KPa−1 and CO2/N2 selectivity of 80 at 0.1 MPa feed gas pressure. For CO2/CH4 gas mixture, the membranes with 20 wt% PAAm content display the highest CO2 permeance of about 1.95 × 10−5 cm3 (STP) cm−2 s−1 KPa−1 and CO2/CH4 selectivity of 58 at 0.1 MPa feed gas pressure. In order to explore the possible reason of gas permeance varying with PAAm content, the crystallinity of PVA and PAAm–PVA blend polymers was measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. The experimental results show an inverse relationship between crystallinity and gas permeance, e.g., a minimum crystallinity and a maximum CO2 permeance are obtained at 20 wt% PAAm content, indicating that the possibility of increasing CO2 permeance with PAAm content due to the increase of carrier concentration could be weakened by the increase of crystallinity.  相似文献

Before polymerization, the introduction of double bonds onto the surface of the TiO2 particles was achieved by the treatment of the TiO2 particles with the silane-coupling agent. Via in-situ emulsion polymerization, the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/titanium oxide (TiO2) composite particles were prepared by graft polymerization of MMA from the surface of the modified TiO2 particles. The structure of the obtained PMMA/TiO2 composite particles was characterized using fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and size excluding chromatography (SEC). The morphology of the obtained PMMA/TiO2 composite particles was observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results of FT-IR and TGA measurements show that PMMA is successfully grafted from the surface of the TiO2 particles and that the percentage of grafting and the grafting efficiency can reach 208.3% and 96.6%, respectively. At the same time, the TGA and DSC measurements indicate an enhancement of thermal stability. TEM images demonstrate a better dispersion of the TiO2 particles in the composite latex. In addition, UV-visible absorption measurements show that the PMMA/TiO2 composite particles can absorb over 95% UV light at 210–400 nm wavelength.  相似文献

Capture of CO2 from flue gases produced by the combustion of fossil fuels and biomass in air is referred to as post-combustion capture. Chemisorbent processes are considered to be the most feasible method and are already at an advanced stage of development, but gas separation membranes are attracting more and more attention as a possible alternative. This paper describes a detailed parametric study of mass and energy balances for a simulated single membrane process. Typical operating conditions (CO2 concentration in the flue gas, pressure and temperature, etc.) together with the influence of the membrane quality (permeability, selectivity) and membrane area on membrane performance (CO2 separation degree and CO2 purity) are simulated over a wide range of parameters.  相似文献

Integrally skinned asymmetric polysulfone membranes were prepared from originally dense films inducing asymmetry by the formation of the porous layer adding to one side of the membranes chloroform and supercritical CO2 (SCCO2), and then allowing the SCCO2 expansion to occur. The influence of the chloroform/polysulfone mass ratio (g CH3Cl/g PSF), SCCO2 density and depressurization rate over the thickness of both the porous and the dense skin layers, the morphology of the porous support and the pure O2 and N2 permeability and selectivity performance were studied. The results show that it is possible to induce a very-controlled asymmetry in a dense film following the procedure described in this work and as expected, the thickness of the porous layer increases while the dense skin layer decreases as the chloroform/polysulfone mass ratio increases. Images of the porous layer show that the average-pore size decreases at high SCCO2 densities and slightly decreases with increasing the CO2 depressurization rates. The O2 and N2 permeability coefficients, measured at 35 °C and 2 bar, for the polysulfone asymmetric membranes are practically the same of those determined in dense films, suggesting that the dense skins are essentially defect-free of pinholes.  相似文献

An experimental and theoretical analysis to separate CO2 using facilitated transport membranes immobilized with different aqueous single and mixed amine solutions have been performed. The membranes containing monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), monoprotonated ethylenediamine (EDAH+) and piperazine (PZ), as well as aqueous blends of PZ with MEA, DEA or EDAH+ were considered. The aqueous solution of PZ showed the highest CO2 permeation rate with respect to other single amine solutions. Therefore blends of PZ with MEA, DEA and EDAH+ increased the permeance of carbon dioxide through mixed amine membranes.  相似文献

Poly (N, N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate)-poly (ethylene glycol methyl ether methacrylate) (PDMAEMA-PEGMEMA) and cesium fluoride (CsF) were blended and used as the separation material of composite membranes. Hollow fiber composite membranes were fabricated by coating the blend on polysulfone (PSf) hollow fiber substrate. Introduction of fluorine ion improved the separation performance of the membrane. The concentration of coating solution was adjusted to obtain a membrane with high permeance. The composite membrane showed good performance with the CO2 permeance of 30.4 GPU (1 GPU = 10-6 cm3(STP)/(cm2·s·cmHg)), and selectivities to CO2/N2, CO2/CH4, CO2/H2 and O2/N2 of 47.2, 37.6, 1.75 and 4.70, respectively. Potassium fluoride (KF), due to its low cost, was also used as a substitute of CsF to prepare composite membrane and the permeation data showed that CsF can be replaced by KF. The effect of operating temperature on the permeation properties of the composite membrane was also investigated.  相似文献

The results of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on transport process of CO2 and CH4 gases in poly(ether-b- amide) (PEBAX)/nanosilica membranes are discussed. The diffusion coefficients for CH4 and CO2 gases at 6 cases with different amounts of nanosilica loading in the simulation boxes are presented. The results show that diffusion coefficients for CO2 gas in all cases are larger than those for the CH4 one. Moreover 10% nanosilica loading case shows maximum effects on diffusion coefficients and improves them by more than 68% and 157% for CO2 and CH4 gases, respectively. Additionally, the results of 3-D Cartesian trajectories and displacements curves are presented and the jumping attempt of CO2 is significantly more than that of CH4. Due to the rubbery state of PEBAX membranes in ambient temperature, the results confirm that channel lifetimes are very short and then back diffusion is not observed for this polymer.  相似文献

Chitosan/PTFE composite membranes were prepared from casting a γ-(glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GPTMS)-containing chitosan solution on poly(styrene sulfuric acid) grafted expended poly(tetrafluoroethylene) film surface. The adhesion between the chitosan skin layer and the PTFE substrate was pretty good to warrant the high performance of chitosan/PTFE composite membranes using in pervaporation dehydration processes on isopropanol. The chitosan/PTFE membrane exhibited a permeation flux of 1730 g/m2 h and a separation factor of 775 at 70 °C on pervaporation dehydration of a 70 wt% isopropanol aqueous solution. The membrane also survived after a long-term operation test in 45 days.  相似文献

Composite electrodes of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxithiophene) and manganese oxide (PEDOT/MnO2) have been prepared by electrodeposition of manganese oxide over PEDOT-modified titanium substrate. The PEDOT layers are deposited on titanium by potentiostatic deposition at 1.4 V and at two different temperatures: 5 and 25 °C (named PEDOT(5) and PEDOT(25), respectively). The electrodes are characterized by field emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM) and their electrochemical performances are evaluated by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 1 molL−1 Na2SO4. The results show an improvement in the specific capacitance (Cs) of the oxide due to the presence of the polymer layer. Considering only the MnO2 mass, the Cs values of the electrodes Ti/MnO2, Ti/PEDOT(5)/MnO2 and Ti/PEDOT(25)/MnO2, estimated by the CV technique, are 151, 159 and 199 Fg−1 at 10 mVs−1 respectively. The micrographies of electrodes show that the polymer layer leads to very significant changes in the morphology of the oxide layers, which in turn generates the improvement observed in the capacitive property.  相似文献

Poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers showed high CO2 separation properties and were successfully immobilized in a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) network upon photopolymerization of PEG dimethacrylate. The PAMAM dendrimer incorporation ratio was readily controlled, and a stable self-standing membrane containing up to 75 wt.% PAMAM dendrimer was obtained. The CO2 separation properties over smaller H2 were investigated by changing the PAMAM dendrimer content or generation and CO2 partial pressure (ΔPCO2ΔPCO2) under atmospheric conditions. Especially, a polymeric membrane containing 50 wt.% PAMAM dendrimer (0th generation) exhibited an excellent CO2/H2 selectivity of 500 with CO2 permeability of 2.74 × 10−14 m3(STP)m/(m2 s Pa) or 3.65 × 103 barrer (1 barrer = 7.5 × 10−18 m3(STP)m/(m2 s Pa)) when a mixture gas (CO2/H2: 5/95 by vol.) was fed at 25 °C and 100 kPa with 80% relative humidity. This polymeric materials are promising for a novel CO2 separation membrane.  相似文献

Thin film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis (RO) membranes are semipermeable membranes that are utilized in water purification or water desalination systems. Discarding these membranes after end-of-life leads to environmental problems. Reusing old TFC-RO membranes is one way to solve this problem. For this reason, in this study, used TFC-RO membranes were coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for CO2/N2 gas separation application. Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) was utilized to confirm the crosslinking of coated PDMS. The morphology of PDMS/TFC-RO membranes was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The parameters that can affect performance of prepared membranes (N2 permeance and CO2/N2 selectivity) are concentration of PDMS solution, coating time, solvent evaporation time and curing temperature and time. Given that the used membranes don't have uniform surfaces, the first step of this study was to investigate the effect of the above mentioned factors on virgin membranes using fractional factorial design (FFD) of experiments. The results obtained showed that PDMS concentration is the most significant factor that has a negative effect on N2 permeance and positive effect on CO2/N2 selectivity. The reported CO2/N2 selectivity of PDMS membranes was 11–12, but this selectivity for prepared PDMS/TFC-RO membranes was in the range of 6.7–22.5. After determining optimum conditions, the gas separation performance of PDMS coated used TFC-RO membrane under these conditions was finally determined. The results showed that the used membranes had a better performance than virgin membranes.  相似文献

This paper discusses the gas permeation properties of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based segmented block copolymers containing monodisperse amide segments. These monodisperse segments give rise to a well phase-separated morphology, comprising a continuous PEO phase with dispersed crystallised amide segments. The influence of the polyether phase composition and of the temperature on the permeation properties of various gases (i.e., CO2, N2, He, CH4, O2 and H2) as well as on the pure gas selectivities were studied in the temperature range of −5 °C to 75 °C. The CO2 permeability increased strongly with PEO concentration, and this effect could partly be explained by the dispersed hard segment concentration and partly by the changing chain flexibility. By decreasing the PEO melting temperature the low temperature permeabilities were improved. The gas transport values were dependant on both the dispersed hard segment concentration and the polyether segment length (length between crosslinks). The gas selectivities were dependant on the polyether segment length and thus the chain flexibility.  相似文献

Matrimid/polysulfone (PSf) dual-layer hollow fiber membranes were fabricated by using co-extrusion and dry-jet wet-spinning phase-inversion techniques. The effects of the spinning dope composition, spinneret dimension, spinneret temperature and the air gap distance on the hollow fiber membranes separation performance were studied. Aging phenomenon was also studied. After coated by 3 wt% silicon solution, the hollow fiber membranes have an O2/N2 selectivity of 7.55 at 25 °C, 506.625 kPa which exceeds the intrinsic value of Matrimid. The membranes have an O2 permeance of 9.36 GPU with an apparent dense-layer thickness of 1421 Å calculated from the O2 permeability. SEM images show the high porosity underneath the dense skin. It indicates that non-solvent addition is not necessary in the inner spinning dope to induce the macroviod formation. The binodals of the Matrimid/solvent/H2O and PSf/solvent/H2O indicate that the composition of the spinning dope plays an important role in the structure and the gas separation performance of the dual-layer hollow fiber membranes. The delayed demixing of the inner spinning dope may fabricate low resistance support layers in the dual-layer hollow fiber membranes.  相似文献
