The influence of operating parameters (solvent type, powder to solvent ratio and temperature) on the ultrasonically assisted extraction of capsaicinoids from dried Capsicum frutescens (fruit) was studied. From the economic perspective, the suitable condition for capsaicinoid extraction by indirect sonication in an ultrasonic bath with a working frequency of 35 kHz was at a ratio of 1g of solid material: 5 ml of 95% (v/v) ethanol, 45 degrees C, where 85% of the capsaicinoids were removed from the raw material in 3h. In an experimental pilot study in 20-l extraction tank at the fixed ultrasonic frequency of 26 kHz and 70 kHz, the recovery of capsaicinoids was 76% and 70%, respectively. It was shown that the ultrasonic extraction produced a significant reduction in extraction time at a lower operational temperature than under a conventional industrial hot maceration process.  相似文献

We investigate sedimentation of model hard-sphere-like colloidal dispersions confined in horizontal capillaries using laser scanning confocal microscopy, dynamical density functional theory, and Brownian dynamics computer simulations. For homogenized initial states we obtain quantitative agreement of the results from the respective approaches for the time evolution of the one-body density distribution and the osmotic pressure on the walls. We demonstrate that single-particle information can be obtained experimentally in systems that were initialized further out of equilibrium such that complex lateral patterns form.  相似文献

A grey-scale display system for ultrasound contact B-scanning has been developed that produces six shades of grey on a high resolution storage oscilloscope. The grey shades are displayed by varying the density distribution of dots of a constant intensity. The system design and clinical results are presented. Advantages of our system are: 1. the non-degraded image is immediately displayed as the scan is performed, 2. the writing speed is faster than most scan converter tube systems so that many closely spaced scans can be rapidly performed in order to improve visualization of small anatomic structures, and 3. images comparable to those of scan converter display systems are produced at a significantly lower equipment cost.  相似文献

We consider two sequential models of deposition and aggregation for particles. The first model (No Diffusion) simulates surface diffusion through a deterministic capture area, while the second (Sequential Diffusion) allows the atoms to diffuse up to ? steps. Therefore the second model incorporates more fluctuations than the first, but still less than usual (Full Diffusion) models of deposition and diffusion on a crystal surface. We study the time dependence of the average densities of atoms and islands and the island size distribution. The Sequential Diffusion model displays a nontrivial steady-state regime where the island density increases and the island size distribution obeys scaling, much in the same way as the standard Full Diffusion model for epitaxial growth. Our results also allow to gain insight into the role of different types of fluctuations.  相似文献

This study considers the acoustic streaming in water produced by a lithotripsy pulse. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) method was employed to visualize the acoustic streaming produced by an electromagnetic shock wave generator using video images of the light scattering particles suspended in water. Visualized streaming features including several local peaks and vortexes around or at the beam focus were easily seen with naked eyes over all settings of the lithotripter from 10 to 18 kV. Magnitudes of the peak streaming velocity measured vary in the range of 10-40 mm s(-1) with charging voltage settings. Since the streaming velocity was estimated on the basis of a series of the video images of particles averaged over 1/60s, the time resolution limited by the video frame rate which is 1-2 orders of magnitude larger than driving acoustic activities, measured velocities are expected to be underestimated and were shown a similar order of magnitude lower than those calculated from a simple theoretical consideration. Despite such an underestimation, it was shown that, as predicted by theory, the magnitude of the streaming velocity measured by the present PIV method was proportional to acoustic intensity. In particular it has almost a linear correlation with peak negative pressures (r=0.98683, p=0.0018).  相似文献

Laser-induced incandescence (LII) is a versatile technique for quantitative soot measurements in flames and exhausts. When used for particle sizing, the time-resolved signals are analysed as these will show a decay rate dependent on the soot particle size. Such an analysis has traditionally been based on the assumption of isolated primary particles. However, soot particles in flames and exhausts are usually aggregated, which implies loss of surface area, less heat conduction and hence errors in estimated particle sizes. In this work we present an experimental investigation aiming to quantify this effect. A soot generator, based on a propane diffusion flame, was used to produce a stable soot stream and the soot was characterised by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and an aerosol particle mass analyzer coupled in series after a differential mobility analyzer (DMA-APM). Despite nearly identical primary particle size distributions for three selected operating conditions, LII measurements resulted in signal decays with significant differences in decay rate. However, the three cases were found to have quite different levels of aggregation as shown both in TEM images and mobility size distributions, and the results agree qualitatively with the expected effect of diminished heat conduction from aggregated particles resulting in longer LII signal decays. In an attempt to explain the differences quantitatively, the LII signal dependence on aggregation was modelled using a heat and mass transfer model for LII given the primary particle and aggregate size distribution data as input. Quantitative agreement was not reached and reasons for this discrepancy are discussed.  相似文献

Neutron diffraction with isotopic H/D substitution on water, augmented by Empirical Potential Structure Refinement has been applied to extract the hydration properties of the osmolyte zwitterionic ectoine at 1.5?M concentration. This has evidenced differences between the hydration of COO? and NH groups, both in terms of number of water molecules involved in the hydration shell and of three-dimensional symmetry. Signatures of ectoine–ectoine contacts, due to hydrogen bonds, have been found, as possible precursors of ectoine aggregation at higher concentrations. The influence of ectoine on the water structure is ascribed to the dipolar electric field generated by the exposed charges of ectoine.  相似文献

Particle image velocimetry was used to investigate ultrasound-induced acoustic streaming in a system for the enhanced uptake of substances from the aquatic medium into fish. Four distinct regions of the induced streaming in the system were observed and measured. One of the regions was identified as an preferential site for substance uptake, where the highest velocities in proximity to the fish surface were measured. A positive linear relationship was found between the ultrasound intensity and the maximum streaming velocity, where a unitless geometric factor, specific to the system, was calculated for correcting the numerical relationship between the two parameters. The results are part of a comprehensive study aimed at improving mass transdermal administrations of substances (e.g. vaccines, hormones) into fish from the aquatic medium.  相似文献

Real-time measurements of acoustic streaming velocities and surface temperature fields using synchronized particle image velocimetry and infrared thermography are reported. Measurements were conducted using a 20 kHz Langevin type acoustic horn mounted vertically in a model sonochemical reactor of either degassed water or a glycerin-water mixture. These dissipative phenomena are found to be sensitive to small variations in the medium viscosity, and a correlation between the heat flux and vorticity was determined for unsteady convective heat transfer.  相似文献

Solid dispersions have been successfully used to enhance the solubility of several poorly water soluble drugs. Solid dispersions are produced by melting hydrophilic carriers and mixing in the poorly water soluble drug. Supersaturation is obtained by quickly cooling the mixture until it solidifies, thereby entrapping the drug. The effects of using ultrasound to homogenize the molten carrier and drug mixture were studied. In particular, the increase in drug solubility for the resulting solid dispersions was analyzed. Piroxicam, which has very low water solubility, was used as a model drug. A full factorial design was used to analyze how sonication parameters affected the solubility and in vitro release of the drug. The results show that the use of ultrasound can significantly increase the solubility and dissolution rate of the piroxicam solid dispersion. Pure piroxicam presented a solubility of 13.3 μg/mL. A maximum fourfold increase in solubility, reaching 53.8 μg/mL, was observed for a solid dispersion sonicated at 19 kHz for 10 min and 475 W. The in vitro dissolution rate test showed the sonicated solid dispersion reached a maximum rate of 18%/min, a sixfold increase over the piroxicam rate of 2.9%/min. Further solid state characterization by thermal, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared analyses also showed that the sonication process, in the described conditions, did not adversely alter the drug or significantly change its polymorphic form. Ultrasound is therefore an interesting technique to homogenize drug/carrier mixtures with the objective of increasing the solubility of drugs with poor water solubility.  相似文献

An interrelation between the properties of the space-time structure near moving particles and their dynamics is discussed. It is suggested that the space-time metric near particles becomes a curved one depending on a random vectorb E =(b 4,b) with a distributionw(b E 2 /l 2); the averaged space-time metric over this distribution gives the general effect on particle behavior. As a result the particle motion in our scheme is described by a nonlinear equation. It turns out that the nonrelativistic limit of this equation gives a simple connection between the space-time structure at small distances and the dynamical behavior of particles. Different types of particle motion (nearly rectilinear, stochastic, and solitonlike) caused by some concrete forms of the averaged conformally flat space-time metric are considered.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the electroless plating of non-conductive substrates under ultrasound at 530 kHz. The ultrasonic irradiation is applied to the activation and to the plating steps. Effects are measured by following the final copper thickness obtained in 1 h of plating time, easily correlated to the average plating rate. It appears that ultrasound has a strong influence on the plating rates enhancement, and assumptions can be made that this increase could be linked to the catalyst cleaning. This is confirmed by XPS measurements.  相似文献

In this paper, a self‐consistent numerical model describing the behaviour of plasma around isolated highly charged dust particles with different shapes of rotation figures is presented. Dust particles in the form of a sphere, oblate ellipsoids (disk‐like particles), and elongated ellipsoids (rod‐like particles) are considered in the presence of an external electric field. Using the developed model, self‐consistent distributions of a space charge and plasma potential are obtained around non‐spherical dust particles. These distributions are carefully analysed by decomposing them in a series of Legendre polynomials. Decompositions of these distributions are compared with particles of different geometry. In addition, for different geometries of dust particles, the dependencies of the charge of a dust particle on geometry in the absence of an external field are investigated.  相似文献

A nonlocal continuum-based model is derived to simulate the dynamic behavior of bridged carbon nanotube-based nano-scale mass detectors. The carbon nanotube (CNT) is modeled as an elastic Euler-Bernoulli beam considering von-Kármán type geometric nonlinearity. In order to achieve better accuracy in characterization of the CNTs, the geometrical properties of an attached nano-scale particle are introduced into the model by its moment of inertia with respect to the central axis of the beam. The inter-atomic long-range interactions within the structure of the CNT are incorporated into the model using Eringen's nonlocal elastic field theory. In this model, the mass can be deposited along an arbitrary length of the CNT. After deriving the full nonlinear equations of motion, the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are extracted based on a linear eigenvalue problem analysis. The results show that the geometry of the attached particle has a significant impact on the dynamic behavior of the CNT-based mechanical resonator, especially, for those with small aspect ratios. The developed model and analysis are beneficial for nano-scale mass identification when a CNT-based mechanical resonator is utilized as a small-scale bio-mass sensor and the deposited particles are those, such as proteins, enzymes, cancer cells, DNA and other nano-scale biological objects with different and complex shapes.  相似文献

This study concerns the effect of soot-particle aggregation on the soot temperature derived from the signal ratio in two-color laser-induced incandescence measurements. The emissivity of aggregated fractal soot particles was calculated using both the commonly used Rayleigh–Debye–Gans fractal-aggregate theory and the generalized Mie-solution method in conjunction with numerically generated fractal aggregates of specified fractal parameters typical of flame-generated soot. The effect of aggregation on soot temperature was first evaluated for monodisperse aggregates of different sizes and for a lognormally distributed aggregate ensemble at given signal ratios between the two wavelengths. Numerical calculations were also conducted to account for the effect of aggregation on both laser heating and thermal emission at the two wavelengths for determining the effective soot temperature of polydisperse soot aggregates. The results show that the effect of aggregation on laser energy absorption is important at low fluences. The effect of aggregation on soot emissivity is relatively unimportant in LII applications to typical laminar diffusion flames at atmospheric pressure, but it can become more important in flames at high pressures due to larger primary particles and wider aggregate distributions associated with enhanced soot loading.  相似文献

The effect of ultrasonic irradiation (40 kHz) on the calcium carbonate deposition on bacterial cellulose membranes was investigated using calcium chloride (CaCl2) and sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as starting reactants. The composite materials containing bacterial cellulose-calcium carbonate were characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and color measurements. The polymorphs of calcium carbonate that were deposited on bacterial cellulose membranes in the presence or in the absence of ultrasonic irradiation were calcite and vaterite. The morphology of the obtained crystals was influenced by the concentration of starting solutions and by the presence of ultrasonic irradiation. In the presence of ultrasonic irradiation the obtained crystals were bigger and in a larger variety of shapes than in the absence of ultrasounds: from cubes of calcite to spherical and flower-like vaterite particles. Bacterial cellulose could be a good matrix for obtaining different types of calcium carbonate crystals.  相似文献

Gas nuclei in water are usually too small to be directly observed. They will grow into bubbles under the negative pressure, which is called cavitation (heterogeneous cavitation). In this study, the gas nuclei in the hydrophilic and hydrophobic silica particle suspension were investigated using the transient cavitation threshold measured by a high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). The transient cavitation bubbles were also observed by a high-speed camera. The results showed that the nuclei only exist on the surface of hydrophobic particles. Furthermore, the aggregation experiments revealed that the aggregates were only formed in the hydrophobic silica suspension by ultrasonic standing waves (USW) at 200 kHz. This distinct difference was mainly due to the formation of gas nuclei on hydrophobic silica particles, which grew and coalesced into stable bubbles under the 200 kHz USW. The aggregation process in suspension was observed by a CCD camera. Moreover, the cavitation thresholds and acoustic radiation forces were analyzed to explain the mechanism of the acoustic aggregation. This study showed a very promising acoustic method for the selective aggregation of hydrophobic particles, which might be efficiently used in the mineral separation industry.  相似文献
