Let Rbe a principal ideal ringRn the ring of n× nmatrices over R, and dk (A) the kth determinantal divisor of Afor 1 ? k? n, where Ais any element of Rn , It is shown that if A,BεRn , det(A) det(B:) ≠ 0, then dk (AB) ≡ 0 mod dk (A) dk (B). If in addition (det(A), det(B)) = 1, then it is also shown that dk (AB) = dk (A) dk (B). This provides a new proof of the multiplicativity of the Smith normal form for matrices with relatively prime determinants.  相似文献

In this paper, we study Gorenstein injective modules over a local Noetherian ring R. For an R-module M, we show that M is Gorenstein injective if and only if Hom R (Ȓ,M) belongs to Auslander category B(Ȓ), M is cotorsion and Ext i R (E,M) = 0 for all injective R-modules E and all i > 0. Davenport—Schinzel sequences are sequences that do not contain forbidden subsequences of alternating symbols. They arise in the computation of the envelope of a set of functions. We obtain almost linear upper bounds on the length λs(n) of Davenport—Schinzel sequences composed ofn symbols in which no alternating subsequence is of length greater thans+1. These bounds are of the formO(nα(n)O(α(n)5-3)), and they generalize and extend the tight bound Θ(nα(n)) obtained by Hart and Sharir for the special cases=3 (α(n) is the functional inverse of Ackermann’s function), and also improve the upper boundO(n log*n) due to Szemerédi. Sunto. Nel presente lavoro viene ripreso in esame il problema dell'esistenza dell'estremo assoluto per una classe di integrali curvilinei dello spazio in forma parametrica dipendenti da elementi differenziali fino all'ordine n (n>3) e invarianti rispetto al parametro. Tale problema viene trattato, oltre che con riferimento alla definizione di intorno (ϱ)n di una curva ordinaria C 0 (n) , considerata in precedenti ricerche dall'A., anche in base a una nuova definizione di intorno {ϱ}n di una curva ordinaria C 0 (n) introdotta recentemente dall'A. Si perviene dapprima a un teorema di esistenza valido con riguardo sia all'una che all'altra delle citate definizioni. In seguito, invece, il problema stesso viene trattato separatamente nei due casi in cui si fa riferimento o all'una o all'altra delle definizioni sopra indicate, e si perviene a teoremi di esistenza dell'estremo assoluto la cui validità è assicurata in classi di curve ordinarie C(n) che sono complete rispettivamente di ordine n-(I) o di ordine n-(II). We consider the width W k (n) and number L k (n) of linear extensions of a random k-dimensional order P k (n). We show that, for each fixed k, almost surely W k (n) lies between (k/2–C)n 1–1/k and 4kn 1-1/k , for some constant C, and L k (n) lies between (e -2 n 1-1/k ) n and (2kn 1-1/k ) n . We study the extremes of a sequence of random variables (Rn) defined by the recurrence Rn=MnRn−1+q, n≥1, where R0 is arbitrary, (Mn) are iid copies of a non-degenerate random variable M, 0≤M≤1, and q>0 is a constant. We show that under mild and natural conditions on M the suitably normalized extremes of (Rn) converge in distribution to a double-exponential random variable. This partially complements a result of de Haan, Resnick, Rootzén, and de Vries who considered extremes of the sequence (Rn) under the assumption that P(M>1)>0.  相似文献

Summary Let A= be an elliptic differential operator inR u, If, for |α|=l, the coefficients aα are ? nearly constant ? and, for |α|<l, they tend to zero at infinity with a certain swiftness, it is proved that A is a Fredholm operator with indexx(A)=0 between a suitable weighted Sobolev space M contained in Wl,p (R n) and Lp(R n, (1+|x|)lp)== . It is shown, by counterexamples, that the above result, holds only if n>l, p>n/(n−l) and that isomorphism results can be obtained, in general only if the coefficients aα(|α|<l) are assumed to be ? sufficiently small ? also on compact sets. Then a Sturm-Liouville type problem is studied and a class of negative and falling off at infinity potentials V(x) is constructed in such a way that the Schr?dinger operator H=−Δ+V(x), in L2(R n), has a zero eigenvalue.

In this work it is shown that certain interesting types of orthogonal system of subalgebras (whose existence cannot be ruled out by the trivial necessary conditions) cannot exist. In particular, it is proved that there is no orthogonal decomposition of Mn(C)⊗Mn(C)Mn2(C) into a number of maximal abelian subalgebras and factors isomorphic to Mn(C) in which the number of factors would be 1 or 3.In addition, some new tools are introduced, too: for example, a quantity c(A,B), which measures “how close” the subalgebras A,BMn(C) are to being orthogonal. It is shown that in the main cases of interest, c(A,B) - where A and B are the commutants of A and B, respectively - can be determined by c(A,B) and the dimensions of A and B. The corresponding formula is used to find some further obstructions regarding orthogonal systems.  相似文献

Summary A constructive procedure of a fundamental solution to a linear ( p n )-hypoelliptic,p=1, …,n, differential operator inR n with constant coefficients is exhibited. Such a fundamental solution satisfies Gevrey conditions in the two half-spaces {x n >0}, {x n <0}.
