Let Mn be a complete hypersurface in Sn+1(1) with constant mean curvature. Assume that Mn has n−1 principal curvatures with the same sign everywhere. We prove that if RicMC(H), either S?S+(H) or RicM?0 or the fundamental group of Mn is infinite, then S is constant, S=S+(H) and Mn is isometric to a Clifford torus with . These rigidity theorems are still valid for compact hypersurface without constancy condition on the mean curvature.  相似文献

Choose n random points in , let Pn be their convex hull, and denote by fi(Pn) the number of i-dimensional faces of Pn. A general method for computing the expectation of fi(Pn), i=0,…,d−1, is presented. This generalizes classical results of Efron (in the case i=0) and Rényi and Sulanke (in the case i=d−1) to arbitrary i. For random points chosen in a smooth convex body a limit law for fi(Pn) is proved as n→∞. For random points chosen in a polytope the expectation of fi(Pn) is determined as n→∞. This implies an extremal property for random points chosen in a simplex.  相似文献

In order to get further insight on the Weyl’s formula for the volume of a tubular hypersurface, we consider the following situation. Letc(t) be a curve in a space formM λ n of sectional curvature λ. LetP 0 be a totally geodesic hypersurface ofM λ n throughc(0) and orthogonal toc(t). LetC 0 be a hypersurface ofP 0. LetC be the hypersurface ofM λ n obtained by a motion ofC 0 alongc(t). We shall denote it byC PorC Fif it is obtained by a parallel or Frenet motion, respectively. We get a formula for volume(C). Among other consequences of this formula we get that, ifc(0) is the centre of mass ofC 0, then volume(C) ≥ volume(C),P),and the equality holds whenC 0 is contained in a geodesic sphere or the motion corresponds to a curve contained in a hyperplane of the Lie algebraO(n−1) (whenn=3, the only motion with these properties is the parallel motion). The authors give a short survey of previous results on generalized normal homogeneous (δ-homogeneous, in other terms) Riemannian manifolds, forming a new proper subclass of geodesic orbit spaces with nonnegative sectional curvature, which properly includes the class of all normal homogeneous Riemannian manifolds. As a continuation and an application of these results, they prove that the family of all compact simply connected indecomposable generalized normal homogeneous Riemannian manifolds with positive Euler characteristic, which are not normal homogeneous, consists exactly of all generalized flag manifolds Sp(l)/U(1)⋅Sp(l−1)=CP2l−1, l?2, supplied with invariant Riemannian metrics of positive sectional curvature with the pinching constants (the ratio of the minimal sectional curvature to the maximal one) in the open interval (1/16,1/4). This implies very unusual geometric properties of the adjoint representation of Sp(l), l?2. Some unsolved questions are suggested.  相似文献

In this paper, we give a definition of weakly complex Berwald metric and prove that, (i) a strongly convex weakly Kähler-Finsler metric F on a complex manifold M is a weakly complex Berwald metric iff F is a real Berwald metric; (ii) assume that a strongly convex weakly Kähler-Finsler metric F is a weakly complex Berwald metric, then the associated real and complex Berwald connections coincide iff a suitable contraction of the curvature components of type (2,0) of the complex Berwald connection vanish; (iii) the complex Wrona metric in Cn is a fundamental example of weakly complex Berwald metric whose holomorphic curvature and Ricci scalar curvature vanish identically. Moreover, the real geodesic of the complex Wrona metric on the Euclidean sphere S2n−1⊂Cn is explicitly obtained.  相似文献

Let (Mn,g), n?3, be a smooth closed Riemannian manifold with positive scalar curvature Rg. There exists a positive constant C=C(M,g) defined by mean curvature of Euclidean isometric immersions, which is a geometric invariant, such that Rg?n(n−1)C. In this paper we prove that Rg=n(n−1)C if and only if (Mn,g) is isometric to the Euclidean sphere Sn(C) with constant sectional curvature C. Also, there exists a Riemannian metric g on Mn such that the scalar curvature satisfies the pinched condition

Let x:M→ be an isometric immersion of a hypersurface M into an (n+1)-dimensional Riemannian manifold and let ρ i  (i∈{1,...,n}) be the principal curvatures of M. We denote by E and P the distinguished vector field and the curvature vector field of M, respectively, in the sense of [8].?If M is structured by a P-parallel connection [7], then it is Einsteinian. In this case, all the curvature 2-forms are exact and other properties induced by E and P are stated.?The principal curvatures ρ i are isoparametric functions and the set (ρ1,...,ρ n ) defines an isoparametric system [10].?In the last section, we assume that, in addition, M is endowed with an almost symplectic structure. Then, the dual 1-form π=P of P is symplectic harmonic. If M is compact, then its 2nd Betti number b 2≥1. The aim of this work is to show that a star-shaped hypersurface of constant mean curvature into the Euclidean sphere Sn+1 must be a geodesic sphere. This result extends the one obtained by Jellett in 1853 for such type of surfaces in the Euclidean space R3. In order to do that we will compute a useful formula for the Laplacian of a new support function defined over a hypersurface M of a Riemannian manifold .  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to study compactness of the complex Green operator on CR manifolds of hypersurface type. We introduce (CR-P q ), a potential theoretic condition on (0, q)-forms that generalizes Catlin’s property (P q ) to CR manifolds of arbitrary codimension. We prove that if an embedded CR-manifold of hypersurface type of real dimension at least five satisfies (CR-P q ) and (CR-P n-1-q ), then the complex Green operator is a compact operator on the Sobolev spaces Hs0,q(M){H^s_{0,q}(M)} and Hs0,n-1-q(M){H^s_{0,n-1-q}(M)} , if 1 ≤  q ≤  n−2 and s ≥  0. We use CR-plurisubharmonic functions to build a microlocal norm that controls the totally real direction of the tangent bundle.  相似文献

Suppose that M is a compact orientable hypersurface embedded in a compact n-dimensional orientable Riemannian manifold N. Suppose that the Ricci curvature of N is bounded below by a positive constant k. We show that 2λ1>k−(n−1)maxM|H| where λ1 is the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of M and H is the mean curvature of M.  相似文献

Let D be the characteristic connection of an almost-Hermitian manifold, V D m (r) the volume of a small geodesic ball for the connection D and C C D 1 the first non-trivial term of the Taylor expansion of V D m (r). NK-manifolds are characterized in terms of C C D 1 and a family of Hermitian manifolds for which M C C D 1 dvol is a spectral invariant is given and one proves that C C D 1 and the spectrum of the complex Laplacian, together, determine the class in which a compact Hermitian manifold lines.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that for every Finsler n-sphere (Sn,F) for n?3 with reversibility λ and flag curvature K satisfying , either there exist infinitely many prime closed geodesics or there exists one elliptic closed geodesic whose linearized Poincaré map has at least one eigenvalue which is of the form exp(πiμ) with an irrational μ. Furthermore, there always exist three prime closed geodesics on any (S3,F) satisfying the above pinching condition.  相似文献

We classify spacelike hypersurfaces of the de Sitter space with constant scalar curvature and with two principal curvatures. Moreover, we prove that if Mn is a complete spacelike hypersurface with constant scalar curvature n(n−1)R and with two distinct principal curvatures such that the multiplicity of one of the principal curvatures is n−1, then R<(n−2)c/n. Additionally, we prove several rigidity theorems for such hypersurfaces.  相似文献

Let D be a connected oriented graph. A set SV(D) is convex in D if, for every pair of vertices x,yS, the vertex set of every x-y geodesic (x-y shortest dipath) and y-x geodesic in D is contained in S. The convexity numbercon(D) of a nontrivial oriented graph D is the maximum cardinality of a proper convex set of D. Let G be a graph. We define that SC(G)={con(D):D is an orientation of G} and SSC(G)={con(D):D is a strongly connected orientation of G}. In the paper, we show that, for any n?4, 1?a?n-2, and a≠2, there exists a 2-connected graph G with n vertices such that SC(G)=SSC(G)={a,n-1} and there is no connected graph G of order n?3 with SSC(G)={n-1}. Then, we determine that SC(K3)={1,2}, SC(K4)={1,3}, SSC(K3)=SSC(K4)={1}, SC(K5)={1,3,4}, SC(K6)={1,3,4,5}, SSC(K5)=SSC(K6)={1,3}, SC(Kn)={1,3,5,6,…,n-1}, SSC(Kn)={1,3,5,6,…,n-2} for n?7. Finally, we prove that, for any integers n, m, and k with , 1?k?n-1, and k≠2,4, there exists a strongly connected oriented graph D with n vertices, m edges, and convexity number k.  相似文献

Let X be a finite dimensional compact metrizable space. We study a technique which employs semiprojectivity as a tool to produce approximations of C(X)-algebras by C(X)-subalgebras with controlled complexity. The following applications are given. All unital separable continuous fields of C*-algebras over X with fibers isomorphic to a fixed Cuntz algebra On, n∈{2,3,…,∞}, are locally trivial. They are trivial if n=2 or n=∞. For n?3 finite, such a field is trivial if and only if (n−1)[A1]=0 in K0(A), where A is the C*-algebra of continuous sections of the field. We give a complete list of the Kirchberg algebras D satisfying the UCT and having finitely generated K-theory groups for which every unital separable continuous field over X with fibers isomorphic to D is automatically locally trivial or trivial. In a more general context, we show that a separable unital continuous field over X with fibers isomorphic to a KK-semiprojective Kirchberg C*-algebra is trivial if and only if it satisfies a K-theoretical Fell type condition.  相似文献

The first author and D. Kunszenti-Kovács (2010) [1] proved that if the volume of the intersection of three geodesic balls of a complete connected Riemannian manifold depends only on the center-center distances and the radii of the balls, then the manifold is one of the simply connected spaces of constant curvature. In this paper, we study the geometrical consequences of the analogous condition for pairs of geodesic balls. We show that in a complete, connected and simply connected Riemannian manifold, the volume of the intersection of two small geodesic balls depends only on the distance between the centers and the radii if and only if the space is harmonic. It is also shown that if in a Riemannian manifold the volume of the intersection of two small geodesic balls of equal radii depends only on the distance between the centers and the common value of the radii, then the space is Einstein, and if we assume in addition that the space is symmetric, then it must be Osserman and hence two-point homogeneous.  相似文献

For nN and DN, the distance graph has vertex set {0,1,…,n−1} and edge set {ij∣0≤i,jn−1,|ji|∈D}. Note that the important and very well-studied circulant graphs coincide with the regular distance graphs.A fundamental result concerning circulant graphs is that for these graphs, a simple greatest common divisor condition, their connectivity, and the existence of a Hamiltonian cycle are all equivalent. Our main result suitably extends this equivalence to distance graphs. We prove that for a finite set D of order at least 2, there is a constant cD such that the greatest common divisor of the integers in D is 1 if and only if for every n, has a component of order at least ncD if and only if for every ncD+3, has a cycle of order at least ncD. Furthermore, we discuss some consequences and variants of this result.  相似文献

Given a compact Kähler manifold M of real dimension 2n, let P be either a compact complex hypersurface of M or a compact totally real submanifold of dimension n. Let q\cal q (resp. \Bbb R Pn{\Bbb R} P^n) be the complex hyperquadric (resp. the totally geodesic real projective space) in the complex projective space \Bbb C Pn{\Bbb C} P^n of constant holomorphic sectional curvature 4l \lambda . We prove that if the Ricci and some (n-1)-Ricci curvatures of M (and, when P is complex, the mean absolute curvature of P) are bounded from below by some special constants and volume (P) / volume (M) £\leq volume (q\cal q)/ volume (\Bbb C Pn)({\Bbb C} P^n) (resp. £\leq volume (\Bbb R Pn)({\Bbb R} P^n) / volume (\Bbb C Pn)({\Bbb C} P^n)), then there is a holomorphic isometry between M and \Bbb C Pn{\Bbb C} P^n taking P isometrically onto q\cal q (resp. \Bbb R Pn{\Bbb R} P^n). We also classify the Kähler manifolds with boundary which are tubes of radius r around totally real and totally geodesic submanifolds of half dimension, have the holomorphic sectional and some (n-1)-Ricci curvatures bounded from below by those of the tube \Bbb R Pnr{\Bbb R} P^n_r of radius r around \Bbb R Pn{\Bbb R} P^n in \Bbb C Pn{\Bbb C} P^n and have the first Dirichlet eigenvalue not lower than that of \Bbb R Pnr{\Bbb R} P^n_r.  相似文献

In this paper, the approximation properties of q-Durrmeyer operators Dn,q(f;x) for fC[0,1] are discussed. The exact class of continuous functions satisfying approximation process limnDn,q(f;x)=f(x) is determined. The results of the paper provide an elaboration of the previously-known ones on operators Dn,q.  相似文献
