Formulas of explicit quadratic Liapunov functions for showing asymptotic stability of the system of linear partial differential equations on (0,∞)×Ω, are constructed, where A is an n×n real matrix, u=T(u1,u2,…,un), Ω is a bounded domain in Rk with smooth boundary ∂Ω, and Δ denotes the Laplacian operator on Rk with Δu=Tu1u2,…,Δun). These formulas are also modified and applied to a number of nonautonomous linear and nonlinear systems and models in structural stability, traveling wave, and Navier-Stokes equations.  相似文献

Given any norm u(·) on the space of linear transformations (matrices) over a finite-dimensional complex vector space, and given commuting transformations T, S and any ε > 0, there is a transformation Tε such that u(Tε ? T) < ε and a polynomial pε such that pε(Tε) = S. This result has implications for the theory of the numerical radius and other operator radii. Its proof involves the following fact, of interest in itself: if the Jordan canonical form of S has k blocks, then the transformations with k distinct eigenvalues are dense in the commutant of S.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact abelian group, let μ be a bounded complex-valued Borel measure on G, and let Tμ be the corresponding convolution operator on L1(G). Let X be a Banach space and let S be a continuous linear operator on X. This paper studies the similarity invariants of operators on a class of Gowers-Maurey spaces, Σ dc spaces, where an infinite dimensional Banach space X is called a Σ dc space if for every bounded linear operator on X the spectrum is disconnected unless it is a singleton. It shows that two strongly irreducible operators T 1 and T 2 on a Σ dc space are similar if and only if the K 0-group of the commutant algebra of the direct sum T 1T 2 is isomorphic to the group of integers ?. On a Σ dc space X, it uses the semigroups of the commutant algebras of operators to give a condition that an operator is similar to some operator in (ΣSI)(X), it further gives a necessary and sufficient condition that two operators in (ΣSI)(X) are similar by using the ordered K 0-groups. It also proves that every operator in (ΣSI)(X) has a unique (SI) decomposition up to similarity on a Σ dc space X, where (ΣSI)(X) denotes the class of operators which can be written as a direct sum of finitely many strongly irreducible operators.  相似文献

Suppose (B,β) is an operator ideal, and A is a linear space of operators between Banach spaces X and Y. Modifying the classical notion of hyperreflexivity, we say that A is called B-hyperreflexive if there exists a constant C such that, for any TB(X,Y) with α=supβ(qTi)<∞ (the supremum runs over all isometric embeddings i into X, and all quotient maps of Y, satisfying qAi=0), there exists aA, for which β(Ta)?Cα. In this paper, we give examples of B-hyperreflexive spaces, as well as of spaces failing this property. In the last section, we apply SE-hyperreflexivity of operator algebras (SE is a regular symmetrically normed operator ideal) to constructing operator spaces with prescribed families of completely bounded maps.  相似文献

This article presents a semigroup approach to the mathematical analysis of the inverse parameter problems of identifying the unknown parameters p(t) and q in the linear parabolic equation ut(xt)  = uxx + qux(xt) + p(t)u(xt), with Dirichlet boundary conditions u(0, t) = ψ0, u(1, t) = ψ1. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the distinguishability of the input-output mapping Φ[·]:PH1,2[0,T], via semigroup theory. In this paper, it is shown that if the nullspace of the semigroup T(t) consists of only zero function, then the input-output mapping Φ[·] has the distinguishability property. It is also shown that the types of the boundary conditions and the region on which the problem is defined play an important role in the distinguishability property of the mapping. Moreover, under the light of the measured output data ux(0, t) = f(t) the unknown parameter p(t) at (xt) = (0, 0) and the unknown coefficient q are determined via the input data. Furthermore, it is shown that measured output data f(t) can be determined analytically by an integral representation. Hence the input-output mapping Φ[·]:PH1,2[0,T] is given explicitly interms of the semigroup.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence of multiple positive solutions to some Hamiltonian elliptic systems −Δv=λu+up+εf(x), −Δu=μv+vq+δg(x) in Ω;u,v>0 in Ω; u=v=0 on ∂Ω, where Ω is a bounded domain in RN (N?3); 0?f, g∈L∞(Ω); 1/(p+1)+1/(q+1)=(N−2)/N, p,q>1; λ,μ>0. Using sub- and supersolution method and based on an adaptation of the dual variational approach, we prove the existence of at least two nontrivial positive solutions for all λ,μ∈(0,λ1) and ε,δ∈(0,δ0), where λ1 is the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator −Δ with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions and δ0 is a positive number.  相似文献

Cahlon has recently considered finite difference methods for the degenerate Cauchy problem (tu t)t=Δu,u(x, 0)=u 0(x) withu 0 analytic. In this paper existence of a unique solution is shown for a more general class of initial data. A smoothing property of the solution operator is then exhibited. The usual semidiscrete finite element method is considered. The approximation is shown to be stable and superconvergent with orderO(h 2μ?2) inl 2 andl , whereμ?1 is the degree of the polynomials used. OptimalL 2 andL estimates are also derived.  相似文献

The little Grothendieck theorem for Banach spaces says that every bounded linear operator between C(K) and ?2 is 2-summing. However, it is shown in [M. Junge, Embedding of the operator space OH and the logarithmic ‘little Grothendieck inequality’, Invent. Math. 161 (2) (2005) 225-286] that the operator space analogue fails. Not every cb-map is completely 2-summing. In this paper, we show an operator space analogue of Maurey's theorem: every cb-map is (q,cb)-summing for any q>2 and hence admits a factorization ‖v(x)‖?c(q)‖vcbaxbq with a,b in the unit ball of the Schatten class S2q.  相似文献

Let GF(q) be the finite field of order q, let Q(x) be an irreducible polynomial in GF(q)(x), and let h(T)(x) be a linear polynomial in GF(q)[x], where T:xxq. We use properties of the linear operator h(T) to give conditions for Q(h(T)(x)) to have a root of arbitrary degree k over GF(q), and we describe how to count the irreducible factors of Q(h(T)(x)) of degree k over GF(q). The existence of local (in time) solutions of the initial-boundary value problem for the following degenerate parabolic equation: ut(x,t)−Δpu(x,t)−|u|q−2u(x,t)=f(x,t), (x,t)∈Ω×(0,T), where 2?p<q<+∞, Ω is a bounded domain in RN, is given and Δp denotes the so-called p-Laplacian defined by Δpu:=∇⋅(|∇u|p−2u), with initial data u0Lr(Ω) is proved under r>N(qp)/p without imposing any smallness on u0 and f. To this end, the above problem is reduced into the Cauchy problem for an evolution equation governed by the difference of two subdifferential operators in a reflexive Banach space, and the theory of subdifferential operators and potential well method are employed to establish energy estimates. Particularly, Lr-estimates of solutions play a crucial role to construct a time-local solution and reveal the dependence of the time interval [0,T0] in which the problem admits a solution. The functionsu, F ? are Banach space valued, the functionF(t, z) is defined fort≥0 andz∈C 0[r,∞). The main point is that the value ofF(t, z) may depend on the values ofz(s) forrst+σ(t), where σ(t)>0. Simple examples show that without a restriction on the magnitude of the advancement σ(t) there is neither existence nor uniqueness. Our results show that when σ(t) is properly bounded and when the solution is to satisfy a certain growth condition which depends on σ(t), then there exists exactly one solution, and it depends continuously on the given data. In the case of the Nicoletti problem (1), (3) there is convergence to the solution satisfyingu(0)=η if 0≤t iT andT→0 (this holds in infinite-dimensional spaces, too). These results are true ifF satisfies a Lipschitz condition of the form $$\left| {F(t,z) - F(t,y)} \right| \leqslant h(t)\max \left\{ {\left| {z(s) - y(s)} \right|:r \leqslant s \leqslant t + \delta (t)} \right\}.$$ . In the case where (1) is a finite system andF is only continuous, an existence theory is developped based onSchauder's fixed point theorem. In this paper we consider the equationu tt +u xxxx =0 for a vibrating rod supported at its end-points. We study the problem of determining the shape of the rod,u(·,0), knowingu(·,T). We see that the solution is unique ifT belongs to a certain dense subsetS of (0,+∞). IfT belongs toS, u(·,0) does not depend continuously onu(·,T).
