Highly refractive and transparent polyimides (PIs) based on fluorene‐bridged and sulfur‐containing monomers have been developed. An aromatic dianhydride, 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA), was polymerized with several fluorene‐containing diamines, including commercially available 9,9′‐bis(p‐aminophenyl)fluorene (APF), 9,9′‐bis[4‐(p‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]fluorene (OAPF), and newly synthesized 9,9′‐bis[4‐(p‐aminophenyl)sulfanylphenyl]fluorene (ASPF) to afford series A PIs. Meanwhile, series B PIs were obtained from a new dianhydride, 4,4′‐[(9H‐fluorene‐9‐ylidene)bis(p‐phenylsulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (FPSP) and two aromatic diamines, ASPF and 4,4′‐thiobis[(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline] (3SDA) via a two‐step polycondensation procedure. The PIs exhibit good thermal stabilities, such as relatively high glass transition temperatures in the range of 220–270 °C and high initial thermal decomposition temperatures (T10%) exceeding 490 °C. The 9,9′‐disubstituted fluorene moieties endow the PI films with good optical transparency. The optical transmittances of the PI films at 450 nm are all higher than 80% for the thickness of about 10 μm. Furthermore, the highly aromatic fluorene moiety and flexible thioether linkages in the molecular chains of the PIs provide them with high refractive indices of 1.6951–1.7258 and small birefringence of 0.0056–0.0070. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel polyimides (PIs) ( 3a–d ) were prepared from 3,3′,5,5′‐tetramethyl‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl‐4 ″ ‐isopropyltoluene ( 1 ) with four aromatic dianhydrides via a one‐step high temperature polycondensation procedure. The obtained PIs showed excellent solubility, with most of them dissoluble at a concentration of 10 wt % in amide polar solvents and chlorinated solvents. Their films were nearly colorless and exhibited high‐optical transparency, with the UV cutoff wavelength in the range of 328–353 nm and the transparency at 450 nm >80%. They also showed low‐dielectric constant (2.49–2.94 at 1 MHz) and low‐water absorptions (0.44–0.65%). Moreover, these PIs possessed high‐glass transition temperatures (Tg) beyond 327 °C and excellent thermal stability with 10% weight loss temperatures in the range of 530–555 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. In comparison with some fluorinated poly(ether imide)s derived from the trifluoromethyl‐substituted bis(ether amine)s, the resultant PIs 3a–d showed better solubility, lower cutoff wavelength, and higher Tg. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new triphenylamine‐based aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer, 4‐tert‐butyl‐4′,4″‐dicarboxytriphenylamine ( 2 ), was synthesized from the cesium fluoride mediated N,N‐diarylation reaction of 4‐tert‐butylaniline with 4‐fluorobenzonitrile and subsequent alkaline hydrolysis of the dinitrile intermediate. A series of six aromatic polyamides 4a‐4f with tert‐butyltriphenylamine groups was prepared from the newly synthesized dicarboxylic acid and various aromatic diamines. These polyamides were readily soluble in many organic solvents and could be solution‐cast into flexible and strong films. The glass‐transition temperatures of these polymers were in the range of 274–311 °C. These polymers exhibited strong UV‐vis absorption bands at 356–366 nm in NMP solution. Their photoluminescence spectra showed maximum bands around 433–466 nm in the blue region. Cyclic voltammograms of all the polyamides exhibited reversible oxidation redox couples in acetonitrile. The polyamide 4f, with tert‐butyltriphenylamine segment in both diacid and diamine residues, exhibited stable electrochromic characteristics with a color change from a colorless neutral form, through a green semioxidized form, to a deep purple fully oxidized form. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three series of aromatic polyamides, polyesters, and poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s containing bulky fluorene structures were prepared from 9,9‐bis(4‐carboxyphenyl) fluorene. All of the polymers were readily soluble in many organic solvents and showed useful thermal stability associated with high glass‐transition temperatures in the range of 220–366 °C. These wholly aromatic polymer films were colorless, with high optical transparency, and exhibited UV‐vis absorption bands at 266–348 nm and photoluminescence maximum bands at 368–457 nm within the purple to green region in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) solutions. The poly(amine‐amide) Ic exhibited excellent electrochromic contrast and coloration efficiency, changing color from the colorless neutral form to green and then to the dark blue oxidized forms with good stability of electrochromic characteristics. Almost all of these wholly aromatic polymer films were colorless and showed high optical transparency. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 4352–4363, 2007  相似文献

Several highly soluble polyimides were synthesized from various aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides and an aromatic diamine containing tert‐butyl pendent groups [4,4′‐methylenebis(2‐tert‐butylaniline)]. All the polyimides showed excellent solubility in common solvents such as chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, and dioxane at room temperature. The number‐average molecular weight ranged from 3.6 × 104 to 1.3 × 105 according to gel permeation chromatography relative to a polystyrene standard, and the polydispersity index was between 1.9 and 2.5. The glass‐transition temperatures of the resulting polyimides ranged from 213 to 325 °C, as measured by differential scanning calorimetry, and little weight loss was observed up to 450 °C in N2 by thermogravimetric analysis. These experimental data indicated that the tert‐butyl pendent groups reduced the interactions among polymer chains to improve their solubility in organic solvents without the loss of thermal stability. Transparent and flexible films of these polyimides were obtained via casting from solution. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 229–234, 2002  相似文献

A new triphenylamine‐containing diamine monomer, 4,4′‐diamino‐4″‐tert‐butyltriphenylamine, was successfully synthesized by the cesium fluoride‐mediated N,N‐diarylation of 4‐tert‐butylaniline with 4‐fluoronitrobenzene, followed by the reduction of the nitro group. The obtained diamine monomer was reacted with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids and tetracarboxylic dianhydrides to produce two series of novel triphenylamine‐based polyamides and polyimides with pendent tert‐butyl substituents. Most of the polymers were readily soluble in polar organic solvents, such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone and N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and could be solution cast into tough and flexible polymer films. These polymers showed high glass transition temperatures between 282 and 320 °C, and they were fairly stable up to a temperature above 450 °C (for polyamides) or 500 °C (for polyimides). These polymers exhibited UV absorption maxima around 308 to 361 nm. The photoluminescence spectra of the polyamides in DMAc exhibited a peak emission wavelength in the blue at 421–433 nm. Cyclic voltammograms of polyamides and polyimides showed an oxidation wave at 1.0–1.1 V versus Ag/AgCl in an acetonitrile solution. All the polyamides and polyimides exhibited excellent reversibility of electrochromic characteristics by continuous several cyclic scans between 0.0 and 1.1–1.3 V, with a color change from the original pale yellowish neutral form to the green or blue oxidized forms. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new polyimides (PIs) containing di‐tert‐butyl side groups were synthesized via a polycondensation of 1‐(4‐aminophenoxy)‐4‐(4‐amino‐2‐methylphenyl)‐2,6‐di‐tert‐butylbenzene ( 3 ) with various aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides. The novel unsymmetric PIs exhibited a low dielectric constants (2.78–3.02), low moisture absorption (0.53–1.35%), excellent solubility, and high glass transition temperature (308–450 °C). The PI derived from the new diamine and the very rigid naphthalene‐1,4,5,8‐tetracarboxylic dianhydride (NTDA) was soluble in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, chloroform, m‐cresol, and cyclohexanone. The unsymmetric di‐tert‐butyl pendent groups significantly enhance the rotational barrier of the polymer chains; thus these PIs had high Tgs. The 1H NMR spectrum of the diamine 3 revealed that the protons of 4‐aminophenoxy moiety are not chemical shift equivalent. This is because the steric hindrance of the bulky di‐tert‐butyl groups prevents the benzene ring of 4‐aminophenoxy moiety from rotating freely. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diamine 3,3‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)‐3‐methylphenyl]phthalide (BAMP) was derived from the o‐cresolphthalein, and then it was polycondensated with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids and dianhydrides to synthesize polyamides (PAs) and polyimides (PIs), respectively. PAs have inherent viscosities of 0.78–2.24 dL/g. Most of the PAs are readily soluble in a variety of solvents such as DMF, DMAc, and NMP and afforded transparent and tough films from DMAc solutions. The cast films have tensile strengths of 75–113 MPa as well as initial moduli of 1.71–2.97 GPa. These PAs have glass transition temperatures (Tgs) in the range of 242–325°C, 10% weight loss temperatures occur up to 473°C, and char yields are between 57 and 64% at 800°C in nitrogen. PIs were first synthesized to form polyamic acids (PAAs) by a two‐stage procedure that included a ring‐opening reaction, followed by thermal or chemical conversion to polyimides. Inherent viscosities of PAAs are between 0.71 and 1.63 dL/g. Most of the PIs obtained through the chemical cyclodehydration procedure are soluble in NMP, o‐chlorophenol, m‐cresol, etc., and they have inherent viscosities of 0.58–1.32 dL/g. Tgs of these PIs are in the range of 270–305°C and show 10% weight loss temperatures up to 477°C. PIs obtained through the thermal cyclodehydration procedure have tensile strengths of 72–142 MPa, elongations at break of 8–19%, and initial moduli of 1.80–2.72 GPa. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two novel bio‐based diamines are synthesized through introduction of renewable 2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid (2,5‐FDCA), and the corresponding aromatic polyimides (PIs) are then prepared by these diamines with commercially available aromatic dianhydrides via two‐step polycondensation. The partially bio‐based PIs possess high glass transition temperatures (Tgs) in the range from 266 to 364 °C, high thermal stability of 5% weight loss temperatures (T5%s) over 420 °C in nitrogen and outstanding mechanical properties with tensile strengths of 79–138 MPa, tensile moduli of 2.5–5.4 GPa, and elongations at break of 3.0–12.3%. Some colorless PI films (PI‐1‐b and PI‐1‐c) with the transmittances at 450 nm over 85% are prepared. The overall properties of 2,5‐FDCA‐based PIs are comparable with petroleum‐based PI derived from isophthalic acid, displaying the potential for development of innovative bio‐based materials. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of organosoluble aromatic polyimides (PIs) was synthesized from 5,5′‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]‐4,7‐methanohexahydroindan (3) and commercial available aromatic dianhydrides such as 3,3′,4,4′‐biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA), 4,4′‐sulfonyl diphthalic anhydride (SDPA), or 2,2′‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropanic dianhydride (6FDA). PIs (IIIc–f), which were synthesized by direct polymerization in m‐cresol, had inherent viscosities of 0.83–1.05 dL/g. These polymers could easily be dissolved in N,N′‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc), N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), pyridine, m‐cresol, and dichloromethane. Whereas copolymerization was proceeded with equivalent molar ratios of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA)/6FDA, 3,3′,4,4′‐benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA)/6FDA, or BTDA/SDPA, or ½ for PMDA/SDPA, copolyimides (co‐PIs), derived from 3 and mixed dianhydrides, were soluble in NMP. All the soluble PIs could form transparent, flexible, and tough films, and they showed amorphous characteristics. These films had tensile strengths of 88–111 MPa, elongations at break of 5–10% and initial moduli of 2.01–2.67 GPa. The glass transition temperatures of these polymers were in the range of 252–311°C. Except for IIIe, the 10% weight loss temperatures (Td) of PIs were above 500°C, and the amount of carbonized residues of the PIs at 800°C in nitrogen atmosphere were above 50%. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New sulfur‐containing aromatic diamines with methyl groups at the ortho position of amino groups have been developed to prepare highly refractive and transparent aromatic polyimides (PIs) in the visible region. All aromatic PIs derived from 4,4′‐thiobis[2″‐methyl‐4″‐(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline ( 2 ), 4,4′‐thiobis[2,″6″‐dimethyl‐4″‐(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline ( 5 ), and aromatic dianhydride, 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride ( 6 ) were prepared via a two‐step polycondensation. All PIs showed good thermal properties, such as 10% weight loss temperature in the range of 497–500 °C and glass transition temperatures above 196 °C. In addition, the PIs showed good optical properties, such as optical transparency above 75% at 450 nm with a 10‐μm film thickness, high refractive indices ranging from 1.7135 to 1.7301, and small in‐plane/out‐of‐plane birefringences between 0.0066 and 0.0076. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyesters PEs containing high content of fluorene units in their backbones were synthesized from 9,9‐diarene‐substituted fluorene diols ( 1 ) and fluorene‐based diacid chlorides ( 2 ) by high temperature polycondensation at 185 °C in diphenyl ether. The molecular weights of the polyesters PE1‐PE5 were in a range of Mw 25,000–165,000. The polyesters displayed their high thermostability: the glass transition temperatures (Tg) by differential scanning calorimetry analysis ranged from 109 to 217 °C, while the 10% weight loss temperatures (Td10) measured by thermogravimetric analysis were over 400 °C in nitrogen and 395 °C in air. The polyesters had good solubility in most common organic solvents such as chloroform and toluene and gave tough, transparent and flexible cast films. The transmittance of the films was over 80% in the wavelength range from 450 to 700 nm in any PEs . The PEs exhibited high refractive index values around 1.65, while they had very low degree of birefringence. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An aromatic sulfur‐containing diamine 4,4′‐thiobis[(p‐phenylenesulfanyl) aniline] (3SDA) was synthesized and polymerized with a sulfur‐containing dianhydride 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA) and three nonsulfur aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides, respectively to afford four poly(amic acid)s (PAAs) with the inherent viscosities of 0.54–1.04 dL/g. Flexible and tough polyimide (PI) films obtained from the PAA precursors showed good thermal, mechanical, and optical properties. The glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of the PIs ranged from 179.1–227.2 °C determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 173.8–227.3 °C by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), depending on the dianhydride used. The 10% weight loss temperatures were in the range of 500–536 °C, showing high intrinsic thermal‐resistant characteristics of the PI films. The PI films also showed good optical transparency above 500 nm, which agreed well with the calculated absorption spectra using the time‐dependent density functional theory. The average refractive indices (nav) measured at 632.8 nm were 1.7191–1.7482, and the in‐plane/out‐of‐plane birefringences (Δn) were 0.0068–0.0123. The high refractive indices originate from the high sulfur contents, good molecular packing, and the absence of bulky structures. The relatively small birefringence mainly results from the flexible thioether linkages structures of the diamine. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A bis(ether amine) containing the ortho‐substituted phenylene unit and pendant tert‐butyl group, 1,2‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)‐4‐tert‐butylbenzene, was synthesized and used as a monomer to prepare polyimides with six commercial dianhydrides via a conventional two‐stage procedure. The intermediate poly(amic acid)s had inherent viscosities of 0.78–1.44 dL/g, and most of them could be thermally converted into transparent, flexible, and tough polyimide films. The inherent viscosities of the resulting polyimides were in the range of 0.46–0.87 dL/g. All polyimides were noncrystalline, and most of them showed excellent solubility in polar organic solvents. The glass‐transition temperatures of these polyimides were in the range of 222–259 °C in differential scanning calorimetry and 212–282 °C in thermomechanicl analysis. These polyimides showed no appreciable decomposition up to 500 °C in thermogravimetric analysis in air or nitrogen. A comparative study of the properties with the corresponding polyimides without pendant tert‐butyl groups derived from 1,2‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)benzene is also presented. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel bis(ether anhydride) monomer, 9,9‐bis[4‐(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene dianhydride (4), was synthesized from the nitrodisplacement of 4‐nitrophthalonitrile by the bisphenoxide ion of 9,9‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)fluorene (1), followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the intermediate tetranitrile and dehydration of the resulting tetracarboxylic acid. A series of poly(ether imide)s bearing the fluorenylidene group were prepared from the bis(ether anhydride) 4 with various aromatic diamines 5a–i via a conventional two‐stage process that included ring‐opening polyaddition to form the poly(amic acid)s 6a–i followed by thermal cyclodehydration to the polyimides 7a–i. The intermediate poly(amic acid)s had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.39–1.57 dL/g and afforded flexible and tough films by solution‐casting. Except for those derived from p‐phenylenediamine, m‐phenylenediamine, and benzidine, all other poly(amic acid) films could be thermally transformed into flexible and tough polyimide films. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of these poly(ether imide)s were recorded between 238–306°C with the help of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and the softening temperatures (Ts) determined by thermomechanical analysis (TMA) stayed in the range of 231–301°C. Decomposition temperatures for 10% weight loss all occurred above 540°C in an air or a nitrogen atmosphere. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 37: 1403–1412, 1999  相似文献

4,4′‐(1,4‐Phenylenedioxy)dibenzoic acid as well as the 2‐methyl‐, 2‐tert‐butyl‐, or 2‐phenyl‐substituted derivatives of this dicarboxylic acid were synthesized in two main steps from p‐fluorobenzonitrile and hydroquinone or its methyl‐, tert‐butyl‐, or phenyl‐substituted derivatives. Polyhydrazides and poly(amide–hydrazide)s were prepared from these bis(ether benzoic acid)s or their diacyl chlorides with terephthalic dihydrazide, isophthalic dihydrazide, or p‐aminobenzoyl hydrazide by means of the phosphorylation reaction or low‐temperature solution polycondensation. Most of the hydrazide polymers and copolymers are amorphous and readily soluble in various polar solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) and dimethyl sulfoxide. They could be solution‐cast into transparent, flexible, and tough films. These polyhydrazides and poly(amide–hydrazide)s had Tgs in the range of 167–237°C and could be thermally cyclodehydrated into the corresponding poly(1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s and poly(amide–1,3,4‐oxadiazole)s approximately in the region of 250–350°C, as evidenced by the DSC thermograms. All the tert‐butyl‐substituted oxadiazole polymers and those derived from isophthalic dihydrazide were organic soluble. The thermally converted oxadiazole polymers exhibited Tgs in the range of 208–243°C and did not show significant weight loss before 450°C either in nitrogen or in air. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new carbazole‐derived, triphenylamine (TPA)‐containing aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer, 4,4′‐dicarboxy‐4″‐(3,6‐di‐tert‐butylcarbazol‐9‐yl)TPA, was synthesized, and it led to a series of electroactive aromatic polyamides with main‐chain TPA and pendent 3,6‐bis(tert‐butyl)carbazole units by reacting it with various aromatic diamines via the phosphorylation polyamidation technique. The polyamides were amorphous with good solubility in many organic solvents and could be solution‐cast into flexible and strong films. They showed high glass‐transition temperatures (282–335 °C) and high thermal stability (10% weight loss temperatures >480 °C). The electroactive polymer films had well‐defined and reversible redox couples with good cycle stability in acetonitrile solutions. The polymer films also exhibited fluorescent and multielectrochromic behaviors. The anodically electrochromic polyamide films had moderate coloration efficiency (~100 cm2/C) and high optical contrast ratio of transmittance change (Δ%T) up to 47% at 813 nm and 48% at 414 nm for the green coloring. After hundreds of cyclic switches, the polymer films still retained good redox and electrochromic activity. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

High‐refractive‐index (high‐n) polymers (HRIPs) with a high optical transparency are highly needed in advanced optoelectronic devices. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of a series of high‐n, transparent, totally colorless, and high‐sulfur‐containing poly(phenylene sulfide)s (PPSs) bearing a triazine unit. Two new triazine monomers T1 and T2 with hydroxyl and tert‐butyl acetate side chains, respectively, were designed and synthesized to develop PPSs with high‐n and high alkaline solubility. These PPSs were prepared by the single‐phase polycondensation from T1 / T2 and commercial aromatic dithiols such as 4,4′‐thiobisbenzenethiol ( TBT ) and benzene‐1,3‐dithiol ( BDT ), achieving very high‐n up to 1.7530 at 633 nm, a high optical transparency (T% > 90% @400 nm) and low birefringence (Δn = 0.0014–0.0080), and exhibiting high potential on the application of high‐n photoresists. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five‐member cyclic dithiocarbonates were synthesized by the reactions of carbon disulfide with benzoic, p‐anisic, p‐chlorobenzoic, 1‐naphthalenecarboxylic, p‐nitrobenzoic, and p‐(tert‐butyl)benzoic glycidyl esters, and their cationic ring‐opening polymerizations were carried out with methyl trifluoromethane sulfonate and trifluoromethane sulfonic acid as initiators at room temperature to 80 °C. Polymers with number‐average molecular weights of 3400–24,900 were obtained in high yields, and their structures were estimated by NMR and IR spectroscopy. The monomers showed a clear difference in the polymerization rate according to the substituents. The rate of polymerization decreased in the order of p‐chlorobenzoic ≥ benzoic > 1‐naphthalenecarboxylic > p‐nitro‐benzoic > ptert‐butylbenzoic > p‐anisic. The data of the reaction kinetics, NMR studies, and molecular orbital calculations proved a plausible mechanism involving the participation of p‐substituted benzoyloxymethyl groups to stabilize the cationic propagating end. The polymers showed decomposition temperatures with 5% weight loss ranging from 200 to 260 °C. No glass‐transition temperatures for the polymers were observed below 200 °C by differential scanning calorimetry. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The authors describe the synthesis and characterization of the polyimide (PI) series containing a 2,5‐bis(4‐aminophenylenesulfanyl)‐3,4‐ethylenedithiothiophene (APSEDTT) moiety in their main chain. The APSEDTT monomer with high sulfur content was prepared and polymerized with several aromatic dianhydrides such as 4,4′‐[p‐thio bis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA), 4,4′‐biphthalic anhydride (BPDA), and 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) by the traditional two‐step polycondensation procedure. All PIs exhibited high transparency, higher than 75% at 550 nm for a thickness of about 20 μm and good thermal properties such as thermal decomposition temperatures (T10%) in the range of 409–521 °C. In addition, the PIs have extraordinarily excellent optical properties in refractive index and birefringence as originally designed. In particular, the PI derived from APSEDTT and 3SDEA showed a high refractive index (1.7586), and a low birefringence (0.0087) because of their very high sulfur content (27.7%). © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
