We have developed a metal free synthetic pathway to homopolypeptide rod‐coil block copolymers. The concept was proven for the synthesis of poly(benzyl‐L ‐glutamate‐b‐styrene). A dual initiator containing a primary amine and a nitroxide group was used in a macroinitiation approach with high initiation efficiency. Good control over the molecular weight in the ring opening polymerization of benzyl‐L ‐glutamate N‐carboxyanhydride was obtained in DMF at 0 °C yielding poly(benzyl‐L ‐glutamates) with low polydispersities around 1.1. The almost quantitative incorporation of the dual initiator was confirmed by MALDI‐ToF analysis. Macroinitiation of styrene by nitroxide‐mediated controlled radical polymerization yielded the block copolymer with high structural control. The diblock structure was confirmed by molecular weight increase upon macroinitiation by size exclusion chromatography and retention time comparison with homopolymers using gradient polymer elution chromatography. Both polymerizations were also successfully conducted in one pot without intermediate isolation owing to the high compatibility of both polymerization techniques. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate) macroinitiators, with the chains thus end‐capped by a cobalt complex, were synthesized by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization and used to initiate styrene polymerization at 30 °C. Although the polymerization of the second block was not controlled, poly(vinyl acetate)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers were successfully prepared and converted into amphiphilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers by the methanolysis of the ester functions of the poly(vinyl acetate) block. These poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers self‐associated in water with the formation of nanocups, at least when the poly(vinyl alcohol) content was low enough. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new graft copolymer, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) ‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone), was prepared by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with coordination‐insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was carried out at 60 °C in the presence of 2‐phenylprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate (PPDTB) using AIBN as initiator. The molecular weight of poly (2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) [poly(HEMA‐co‐St)] increased with the monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distribution was in the range of 1.09 ~ 1.39. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ?‐caprolactone was then initiated by the hydroxyl groups of the poly(HEMA‐co‐St) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). GPC and 1H‐NMR data demonstrated the polymerization courses are under control, and nearly all hydroxyl groups took part in the initiation. The efficiency of grafting was very high. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5523–5529, 2004  相似文献

A negative working and chemically amplified photosensitive polymer has been developed, which is based on poly(2,6‐dihydroxy‐1,5‐naphthalene) (PDHN), the crosslinker 4,4′‐methylenebis[2,6‐bis(hydroxymethyl)]phenol, and the photoacid generator (5‐propylsulfonyloxyimino‐5H‐thiophen‐2‐ylidene)‐(2‐methylphenyl)acetonitrile. PDHN, with a number‐average molecular weight of 25,000, was prepared by the oxidative coupling polymerization of 2,6‐dihydroxynaphthalene with di‐μ‐hydroxo‐bis[(N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine)copper(II)] chloride in 2‐methoxyethanol at room temperature. The resulting PDHN showed a 5% weight loss temperature of 440 °C in nitrogen and a low dielectric constant of 2.82. The resist showed a sensitivity of 8.3 mJ cm?2 and a contrast of 11 when it was exposed to 436‐nm light, followed by postexposure baking at 100 °C for 5 min and development with a 2.38 wt % aqueous tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution at 25 °C. A fine negative image featuring 10‐μm line‐and‐space patterns was obtained on a film 3 μm thick exposed to 10 mJ cm?2 of ultraviolet light at 436 nm in the contact‐printed mode. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel class of biomimetic glycopolymer–polypeptide triblock copolymers [poly(L ‐glutamate)–poly(2‐acryloyloxyethyllactoside)–poly(L ‐glutamate)] was synthesized by the sequential atom transfer radical polymerization of a protected lactose‐based glycomonomer and the ring‐opening polymerization of β‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate N‐carboxyanhydride. Gel permeation chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance analyses demonstrated that triblock copolymers with defined architectures, controlled molecular weights, and low polydispersities were successfully obtained. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of the triblock copolymers revealed that the α‐helix/β‐sheet ratio increased with the poly(benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) block length. Furthermore, the water‐soluble triblock copolymers self‐assembled into lactose‐installed polymeric aggregates; this was investigated with the hydrophobic dye solubilization method and ultraviolet–visible analysis. Notably, this kind of aggregate may be useful as an artificial polyvalent ligand in the investigation of carbohydrate–protein recognition and for the design of site‐specific drug‐delivery systems. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four generations of new amphiphilic thermoresponsive linear‐dendritic block copolymers (LDBCs) with a linear poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) (PNVCL) block and a dendritic poly(benzyl ether) block are synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of N‐vinylcaprolactam (NVCL) using dendritic poly(benzyl ether) chlorides as initiators. The copolymers have been characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, and GPC showing controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution (PDI ≤ 1.25). Their self‐organization in aqueous media and thermoresponsive property are highly dependent on the generation of dendritic poly(benzyl ether) block. It is observed for the LDBCs that the self‐assembled morphology changes from irregularly spherical micelles, vesicles, rod‐like large compound vesicles (LCVs), to the coexistence of spherical micelles and rod‐like LCVs, as the generation of the dendritic poly(benzyl ether) increases. The results of a cytotoxicity study using an MTT assay method with L929 cells show that the LDBCs are biocompatible. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Proton transfer polymerization through thiol‐epoxy “click” reaction between commercially available and hydrophilic di‐thiol and di‐epoxide monomers is carried out under ambient conditions to furnish water‐soluble polymers. The hydrophilicity of monomers permitted use of aqueous tetrahydrofuran as the reaction medium. A high polarity of this solvent system in turn allowed for using a mild catalyst such as triethylamine for a successful polymerization process. The overall simplicity of the system translated into a simple mixing of monomers and isolation of the reactive polymers in an effortless manner and on any scale required. The structure of the resulting polymers and the extent of di‐sulfide defects are studied with the help of 13C‐ and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. Finally, reactivity of the synthesized polymers is examined through post‐polymerization modification reaction at the backbone sulfur atoms through oxidation reaction. The practicality, modularity, further functionalizability, and water solubility aspects of the described family of new poly(β‐hydroxythio‐ether)s is anticipated to accelerate investigations into their potential utility in bio‐relevant applications. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate‐block‐vinyl acetate) copolymers using a combination of two living radical polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, is reported. The use of two methods is due to the disparity in reactivity of the two monomers, viz. vinyl acetate is difficult to polymerize via ATRP, and a suitable RAFT agent that can control the polymerization of vinyl acetate is typically unable to control the polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate. Thus, ATRP was performed to make poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) containing a bromine end group. This end group was subsequently substituted with a xanthate moiety. Various spectroscopic methods were used to confirm the substitution. The poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) macro‐RAFT agent was then used to produce (tert‐butyl acrylate‐block‐vinyl acetate). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of [polystyrene‐b‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine)]n star‐block copolymers with the poly(2‐vinylpyridine) blocks at the periphery. A two‐step living anionic polymerization method was used. Firstly, oligo(styryl)lithium grafted poly(divinylbenzene) cores were used as multifunctional initiators to initiate living anionic polymerization of styrene in benzene at room temperature. Secondly, vinylpyridine was polymerized at the periphery of these living (polystyrene)n stars in tetrahydrofuran at ?78 °C. The resulting copolymers were characterized using size exclusion chromatography, multiangle laser light scattering, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The graft copolymers composed of “Y”‐shaped polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)2 (PS‐b‐PEO2) as side chains and hyperbranched poly(glycerol) (HPG) as core were synthesized by a combination of “click” chemistry and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) via “graft from” and “graft onto” strategies. Firstly, macroinitiators HPG‐Br were obtained by esterification of hydroxyl groups on HPG with bromoisobutyryl bromide, and then by “graft from” strategy, graft copolymers HPG‐g‐(PS‐Br) were synthesized by ATRP of St and further HPG‐g‐(PS‐N3) were prepared by azidation with NaN3. Then, the precursors (Bz‐PEO)2‐alkyne with a single alkyne group at the junction point and an inert benzyl group at each end was synthesized by sequentially ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of EO using 3‐[(1‐ethoxyethyl)‐ethoxyethyl]‐1,2‐propanediol (EEPD) and diphenylmethylpotassium (DPMK) as coinitiator, termination of living polymeric species by benzyl bromide, recovery of protected hydroxyl groups by HCl and modification by propargyl bromide. Finally, the “click” chemistry was conducted between HPG‐g‐(PS‐N3) and (Bz‐PEO)2‐alkyne in the presence of N,N,N′,N″,N”‐pentamethyl diethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr system by “graft onto” strategy, and the graft copolymers were characterized by SEC, 1H NMR and FTIR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The monomer concentration for the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline in N,N‐dimethylacetamide was optimized utilizing high‐throughput experimentation methods. Detailed 1H‐NMR spectroscopic investigations were performed to understand the mechanistic aspects of the observed concentration effects. Finally, the improved polymerization concentration was applied for the synthesis of higher molecular weight (> 10,000 Da) poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline)s. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three linear pentablock quintopolymers (l‐SIDMV), where S is polystyrene (PS), I polyisoprene‐1,4 (PI), D poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), M poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate) (PtBuM), and V poly(2‐vinylpyridine) (P2VP), were synthesized by anionic polymerization high vacuum techniques. The approach involves the following: (a) The synthesis of living triblock terpolymer PS‐b‐PI‐b‐PDMSLi and diblock copolymer P2VP‐b‐PtBuMK by sequential polymerizations of the corresponding monomers with sec‐BuLi and benzyl potassium, respectively; and (b) The selective linking of the living triblock terpolymer with the chlorosilane group of 2‐(chloromethylphenyl)ethyldimethylchlorosilane (CMPDMS), followed by linking of the living block copolymer with the remaining chloromethyl group of CMPDMS. Molecular characterization carried out by size exclusion chromatography, membrane osmometry, solution (in CDCl3 or d8‐toluene) and solid‐state 1H‐NMR spectroscopy indicated a high degree of molecular and compositional homogeneity. Differential scanning calorimetry results on the precursors and final polymers were discussed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 3938–3946, 2008  相似文献

A novel, near‐monodisperse, well‐defined ABA triblock copolymer, poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(propylene oxide)‐b‐poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate], was synthesized via oxyanion‐initiated polymerization. The initiator was a telechelic‐type potassium alcoholate prepared from poly(propylene glycol) and KH in dry tetrahydrofuran. The copolymers produced were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). GPC and 1H NMR analyses showed that the products obtained were the desired copolymers, with narrow molecular weight distributions (ca. 1.09–1.11) very close to that of the original poly(propylene glycol). 1H NMR, surface tension measurements, and dynamic light scattering all indicated that the triblock copolymer led to interesting aqueous solution behaviors, including temperature‐induced micellization and very high surface activity. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. New, water soluble poly(glycidol) (PGl) macroinitiators for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were synthesized. This new class of macroinitiators were prepared in a three‐step process. First, series of well‐defined ω‐hydroxyl functional poly(glycidol acetal)s with different molecular weights was synthesized via anionic polymerization followed by quantitative termination of anionically growing active sites. End capping was achieved by treatment of living chain ends with water. The living nature of the system and termination reaction is discussed. In the second stage, monofunctional poly(glycidol acetal)s were functionalized by esterification with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Finally, selective deprotection (hydrolysis) of acetal protective groups was performed. As simultaneous partial cleavage of ester bond of attached ATRP moieties was unavoidable, the final functionality of macroinitiator calculated from 1H NMR varied in the range 85–95%. The obtained (2‐chloropropionyl) poly(glycidol) macroinitiator with DP = 55 and 90% functionality was successfully used in ATRP polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) at room temperature in the DMF/water mixture. Linear block copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled composition were obtained and characterized with 1H NMR and SEC‐MALLS measurements. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Vinyl acetate and vinyl chloroacetate were copolymerized in the presence of a bis(trifluoro‐2,4‐pentanedionato)cobalt(II) complex and 2,2′‐azobis(4‐methoxy‐2,4‐dimethylvaleronitrile) at 30 °C, forming a cobalt‐capped poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐vinyl chloroacetate). The addition of 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy after a certain degree of copolymerization was reached afforded 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy‐terminated poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐vinyl chloroacetate) (PVOAc–MI; number‐average molecular weight = 31,000, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.24). A 1H NMR study of the resulting PVOAc–MI revealed quantitative terminal 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy functionality and the presence of 5.5 mol % vinyl chloroacetate in the copolymer. The atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St) was studied with ethyl chloroacetate as a model initiator and five different Cu‐based catalysts. Catalysts with bis(2‐pyridylmethyl)octadecylamine (BPMODA) or tris(2‐pyridylmethyl)amine (TPMA) ligands provided the highest initiation efficiency and best control over the polymerization of St. The grafting‐from ATRP of St from PVOAc–MI catalyzed by copper complexes with BPMODA or TPMA ligands provided poly(vinyl acetate)‐graft‐polystyrene copolymers with relatively high polydispersity (>1.5) because of intermolecular coupling between growing polystyrene (PSt) grafts. After the hydrolysis of the graft copolymers, the cleaved PSt side chains had a monomodal molecular weight distribution with some tailing toward the lower number‐average molecular weight region because of termination. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A stereoregular 2‐amino‐glycan composed of a mannosamine residue was prepared by ring‐opening polymerization of anhydro sugars. Two different monomers, 1,6‐anhydro‐2‐azido‐mannose derivative ( 3 ) and 1,6‐anhydro‐2‐(N, N‐dibenzylamino)‐mannose derivative ( 6 ), were synthesized and polymerized. Although 3 gave merely oligomers, 6 was promptly polymerized into high polymers of the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 2.3 × 104 to 2.9 × 104 with 1,6‐α stereoregularity. The differences of polymerizability of 3 and 6 from those of the corresponding glucose homologs were discussed. It was found that an N‐benzyl group is exceedingly suitable for protecting an amino group in the polymerization of anhydro sugars of a mannosamine type. The simultaneous removal of O‐ and N‐benzyl groups of the resulting polymers was achieved by using sodium in liquid ammonia to produce the first 2‐amino‐glycan, poly‐(1→6)‐α‐D ‐mannosamine, having high molecular weight through ring‐opening polymerization of anhydro sugars.© 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(m‐phenylene) (PMP), which is poly(1,3‐dibutoxy‐m‐phenylene), was successfully synthesized via Grignard metathesis polymerization. PMP with a reasonably high number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 25,900 and a very low polydispersity index of 1.07 was obtained. The polymerization of a Grignard reagent monomer, 1‐bromo‐2,4‐dibutoxy‐5‐chloromagnesiobenzene, proceeded in a chain‐growth manner, probably due to the meta‐substituted design producing a short distance between the MgCl and Br groups and thereby making a smooth nickel species (? C? Ni? C? ) transfer to the intramolecular chain end (? C? Ni? Br) over a benzene ring. PMP showed a good solubility in the common organic solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran, CH2Cl2, and CHCl3. Furthermore, a new block copolymer comprised of PMP and poly(3‐hexylthiophene) was also prepared. The tapping mode atomic force microscopy image of the surface of the block copolymer thin film on a mica substrate showed a nanofibril morphology with a clear contrast. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of 2‐ethynyl‐9‐substituted carbazole and 3‐ethynyl‐9‐substituted carbazole monomers containing first‐generation chiral and achiral dendritic (i.e., minidendritic) substituents, 2‐ethynyl‐9‐[3,4,5‐tris(dodecan‐1‐yloxy)benzyl]carbazole (2ECz), 3‐ethynyl‐9‐[3,4,5‐tris(dodecan‐1‐yloxy)benzyl]carbazole (3ECz), 2‐ethynyl‐9‐{3,4,5‐tris[(S)‐2‐methylbutan‐1‐yloxy]benzyl}carbazole (2ECz*), and 3‐ethynyl‐9‐{3,4,5‐tris[(S)‐2‐methylbutan‐1‐yloxy]benzyl}carbazole (3ECz*), is presented. All monomers were polymerized and copolymerized by stereospecific polymerization to produce cis‐transoidal soluble stereoisomers. A structural analysis of poly(2ECz), poly(2ECz*), poly(3ECz), poly(3ECz*), poly(2ECz*‐co‐2ECz), and poly(3ECz*‐co‐3ECz) by a combination of techniques, including 1H NMR, ultraviolet–visible, and circular dichroism spectroscopy, thermal optical polarized microscopy, and X‐ray diffraction experiments, demonstrated that these polymers had a helical conformation that produced cylindrical macromolecules exhibiting chiral and achiral nematic phases. Individual chains of these cylindrical macromolecules were visualized by atomic force microscopy. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 3509–3533, 2002  相似文献

A series of novel four‐arm A2B2 and A2BC and five‐arm A2B2C miktoarm star polymers, where A is poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), B is polystyrene (PS), and C is polyisoprene (PI), were successfully synthesized by the combination of chlorosilane and benzyl chloride linking chemistry. This new and general methodology is based on the linking reaction of in‐chain benzyl chloride functionalized poly(dimethylsiloxane) (icBnCl–PDMS) with the in‐chain diphenylalkyl (icD) living centers of PS‐DLi‐PS, PS‐DLi‐PI, or (PS)2‐DLi‐PI. icBnCl–PDMS was synthesized by the selective reaction of lithium PDMS enolate (PDMSOLi) with the chlorosilane groups of dichloro[2‐(chloromethylphenyl)ethyl]methylsilane, leaving the benzyl chloride group intact. The icD living polymers, characterized by the low basicity of DLi to avoid side reactions with PDMS, were prepared by the reaction of the corresponding living chains with the appropriate chloro/bromo derivatives of diphenylethylene, followed by a reaction with BuLi or the living polymer. The combined molecular characterization results of size exclusion chromatography, 1H NMR, and right‐angle laser light scattering revealed a high degree of structural and compositional homogeneity in all miktoarm stars prepared. The power of this general approach was demonstrated by the synthesis of a morphologically interesting complex miktoarm star polymer composed of two triblock terpolymer (PS‐b‐PI‐b‐PDMS) and two diblock copolymer (PS‐b‐PI) arms. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hyperbranched poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized by a combination of cationic ring‐opening polymerization and the oxidation of thiol to disulfide groups. A three‐arm star poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PEtOx) was first synthesized using 1,3,5‐tris(bromomethyl) benzene as an initiator. The star PEtOx was end‐capped with potassium ethyl xanthate. Similarly, a linear PEtOx was synthesized and end‐capped with potassium ethyl xanthate using benzyl bromide as an initiator. Hyperbranched PEtOx was then obtained by in situ cleaving and subsequent oxidation of the star PEtOx and linear PEtOx mixture with n‐butylamine as both a cleaving agent and a base in tetrahydrofuran. The linear PEtOx was used to prevent the formation of gel. The hyperbranched PEtOx can be cleaved with dithiothreitol to trithiol and monothiol polymer. The hyperbranched PEtOx shows no remaining thiols using Ellman's assay. The resulting hyperbranched PEtOx was hydrolyzed to a novel hyperbranched polyethyleneimine with degradable disulfide linkages. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym.
