A DFB laser emitting at a wavelength around 940 nm in a single longitudinal mode up to an output power of 500 mW with a side mode suppression ratio greater than 50 dB is presented. More than 4 nm tuning range was reached by varying the current between 100 and 800 mA. Up to a power of about 300 mW, the lateral far field revealed stable fundamental mode operation.  相似文献

We present laser action in a single crystal fluoride fiber obtained by the micro-pulling-down technique. The 700 μm diameter and 1 cm long Nd:LiYF4 fiber was pumped by a beam shaped diode bar emitting at 806 nm. A peak power of 300 mW was achieved with a slope efficiency of 12%. When considering the pump power fraction absorbed by the laser mode, a slope efficiency of 37% was achieved. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a Nd: LiYF4 fiber laser.  相似文献

Ytterbium-doped self-frequency-doubling lasers offer high efficiency, tunable, visible and near-infrared, cw and pulsed operation from compact devices. We review the performance of ytterbium-doped yttrium aluminium borate (Yb:YAB) self-frequency-doubling lasers. Because of the detailed dynaMisc of the interaction of the nonlinear pulse shaping process for mode-locking or for Q-switching self-frequency-doubled lasers, we observe pulse lengthening in each process when frequency doubling is optimised, with high average output power. However, for continuous wave operation, the self-frequency doubling process may be optimised to give highly efficient, robust, widely-tunable output in the visible as well as fundamental output in the infrared.  相似文献

Compressively strained multiple quantum well lasers in the GaInAsSb/AlGaAsSb material system are reported. Indium concentrations between 40% and 47.5% were chosen for the GaInAsSb quantum wells. Compressive strains varied between 1.16% and 1.43%. The lasers worked continuous wave at room temperature up to a wavelength of 2.81 μm. For a laser with 2.93 μm wavelength continuous wave operation was found up to a temperature of −23°C. This laser worked in pulsed operation at 15°C.  相似文献

We have recently reported 16 new far-infrared laser emissions of CD2Cl2. While the overwhelming majority of the previously known FIR laser emissions of this molecule were polarized parallel to the polarization of the pump CO2 line, 13 of our 16 new lines are polarized perpendicularly to the exciting CO2 radiation. In principle, the presence of perpendicular/parallel emission pairs is extremely important for the assignment of laser transitions. In the present work we discuss the possible assignments of 16 far-infrared (FIR) laser emission pairs of CD2Cl2.  相似文献

A supersonic chemical oxygen-iodine laser of 5 cm long active medium has been operated utilizing a simple sparger-type O2(1Δ) chemical generator and a medium size pumping system. A grid nozzle was used for iodine injection and supersonic expansion. 9 W of cw laser emission at 1315 nm were obtained in the present experiments. The small size and the simple structure of the laser system and its stable operation for long periods make it a convenient tool for studying parameters important for high-power supersonic iodine lasers.  相似文献

We have demonstrated an optically pumped continuous wave Cs vapor laser with an input power to output power slope efficiency of 81%. The laser power was 0.35 W for an input power of 0.57 W, yielding an overall optical efficiency of 63%.  相似文献

We analyze the propagation properties of the beam extracted from a diode pumped ceramic Nd:YAG slab laser adopting a hybrid stable–unstable resonator. Such a resonator produces a beam characterized by an Hermite–Gauss mixture-like distribution in one transverse direction and a hard-edge diffracted distribution on the other transverse direction. The beam propagation parameters Mx2 and My2 are measured for different values of the diodes driving current. We obtain a beam parameter product smaller than 3 mm mrad in both transverse directions and in the whole range of powers, up to an extraction of 220 W in a QCW regime.  相似文献

The concept of random lasers exploiting multiple scattering of photons in an amplifying disordered medium in order to generate coherent light without a traditional laser resonator has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. This research area lies at the interface of the fundamental theory of disordered systems and laser science. The idea was originally proposed in the context of astrophysics in the 1960s by V.S. Letokhov, who studied scattering with “negative absorption” of the interstellar molecular clouds. Research on random lasers has since developed into a mature experimental and theoretical field. A simple design of such lasers would be promising for potential applications. However, in traditional random lasers the properties of the output radiation are typically characterized by complex features in the spatial, spectral and time domains, making them less attractive than standard laser systems in terms of practical applications. Recently, an interesting and novel type of one-dimensional random laser that operates in a conventional telecommunication fibre without any pre-designed resonator mirrors–random distributed feedback fibre laser–was demonstrated. The positive feedback required for laser generation in random fibre lasers is provided by the Rayleigh scattering from the inhomogeneities of the refractive index that are naturally present in silica glass. In the proposed laser concept, the randomly backscattered light is amplified through the Raman effect, providing distributed gain over distances up to 100 km. Although an effective reflection due to the Rayleigh scattering is extremely small (∼0.1%), the lasing threshold may be exceeded when a sufficiently large distributed Raman gain is provided. Such a random distributed feedback fibre laser has a number of interesting and attractive features. The fibre waveguide geometry provides transverse confinement, and effectively one-dimensional random distributed feedback leads to the generation of a stationary near-Gaussian beam with a narrow spectrum. A random distributed feedback fibre laser has efficiency and performance that are comparable to and even exceed those of similar conventional fibre lasers. The key features of the generated radiation of random distributed feedback fibre lasers include: a stationary narrow-band continuous modeless spectrum that is free of mode competition, nonlinear power broadening, and an output beam with a Gaussian profile in the fundamental transverse mode (generated both in single mode and multi-mode fibres).  相似文献

We demonstrated four different laser operational states in the same passive fiber ring laser cavity by controlling solely the polarization state in a saturable absorber. The demonstrated laser operational states were continuous wave, mode-locking, Q-switching, and Q-switched mode-locking. The saturable absorber was fabricated by spin-coating a single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT)/polymer composite on a side polished fiber providing enhanced nonlinear interaction with the SWCNT. The wide tuning range of the saturable absorber allows the simple means to generate different forms of laser output from a single laser cavity.  相似文献

Tunable properties of optically pumped FIR lasers have been studied on the basis of sixlevel quantum system approach. The signal flow graph method was used to solve the density matrix equations. Mid-IR type-II interband cascade lasers were demonstrated in pulsed mode at temperatures up to 325 K and in continuous mode up to 200 K. At 80 K, the threshold current density was 8.9 A/cm2 and a continuous wave output power of 140 mW/facet was obtained.  相似文献

The energy exchange between the pumping laser and FIR signal in the optically pumped FIR laser (OPFIRL) system was studied. The iteration method has been used to calculate the power density of the pumping and FIR signals at any point along the optical axis of the sample tube. It was found that the power density of the FIR signal did not always increase along the length of the laser tube. There was a maximum FIR power density at the appropriate point in the sample tube. If the distance of maximum power point from the entrance of the OPFIRL tube was taken as the length of sample tube Zopt, the maximum FIR laser output should be obtained. This was the optimum length of OPFIRL tube. The value of Zopt was closely related to the parameter of OPFIRL such as the pumping power density, the pumping detuning and the frequency of the FIR laser. The energy-exchange and the maximum output of the fir laser were calculated under the ideal condition.  相似文献

Violet, blue, and green lasers were simultaneously generated by nonlinear processes using ultrafast laser inscribed neodymium‐doped yttrium aluminum borate (Nd:YAl3(BO3)4 or Nd:YAB) channel waveguides under pumping at 815 nm. These visible lasers were generated by the frequency doubling, self‐frequency summing, and self‐frequency doubling processes based on a 1062 nm laser radiation that corresponded to the 4F3/24I11/2 transition of Nd3+ ions. Further, the wavelength tunability for the violet and blue lasers was achieved by simply tuning the pump wavelength within the 4I9/24F5/2 transition. Hybridly polarized (HP) vector vortex Raman lasers dramatically extend their applications on optical microscopy, optical communication, and quantum information. Spatial light modulators and waveplates are widely used for generating HP vector vortex lasers, however, the performance and beam quality of HP vector vortex lasers are restricted by diffraction loss and low damage threshold of these optical elements. Here, HP vector vortex Raman microchip lasers constructed with Yb3+:Y3Al5O12 (Yb:YAG) and vanadate (YVO4) crystals is demonstrated. The states of polarization (SoP) of HP vector vortex lasers are combination of radial and anti-radial polarizations (RP-ARP), azimuthal and anti-azimuthal polarizations (AP-AAP). The SoP of HP vector vortex lasers can be controlled by adjusting the length of YVO4 crystal and applying pump power. Maximum output powers are 456 and 586 mW with optical efficiency of 7.1% and 9.2% for HP vector vortex lasers with SoP of RP-ARP and AP-AAP. The HP vector vortex Raman lasers with SoP of RP-ARP and AP-AAP oscillate ≈1076 nm with bandwidths of 11.4 and 10.8 nm. High beam quality is achieved for HP vector vortex lasers with measured M2 nearly equal to theoretical value. The broadband HP vector vortex Raman lasers with high beam quality extend applications on optical trapping, and quantum information processing.  相似文献
