Alternating direction finite element (ADFE) scheme for d-dimensional nonlin-ear system of parabolic integro-differential equations is studied. By using a local approxi-mation based on patches of finite elements to treat the capacity term qi(u), decomposition of the coefficient matrix is realized; by using alternating direction, the multi-dimensional problem is reduced to a family of single space variable problems, calculation work is sim-plified; by using finite element method, high accuracy for space variant is kept; by using inductive hypothesis reasoning, the difficulty coming from the nonlinearity of the coeffi-cients and boundary conditions is treated; by introducing Ritz-Volterra projection, the difficulty coming from the memory term is solved. Finally, by using various techniques for priori estimate for differential equations, the unique resolvability and convergence proper-ties for both FE and ADFE schemes are rigorously demonstrated, and optimal H1 and L2 norm space estimates and O((△t)2) estim  相似文献

A new alternating direction (AD) finite element (FE) scheme for 3-dimensional nonlinear parabolic equation and parabolic integro-differential equation is studied. By using AD, the 3-dimensional problem is reduced to a family of single space variable problems, calculation work is simplified; by using FE, high accuracy is kept; by using various techniques for priori estimate for differential equations such as inductive hypothesis reasoning, the difficulty arising from the nonlinearity is treated. For both FE and ADFE schemes, the convergence properties are rigorously demonstrated, the optimal H1-and L2-norm space estimates and the 0((△t)2) estimate for time variable are obtained.  相似文献

The three-dimensional transition of the wake flow behind a circular cylinder is studied in detail by direct numerical simulations using 3D incompressible N-S equations for Reynolds number ranging from 200 to 300. New features and vortex dynamics of the 3D transition of the wake are found and investigated. At Re = 200, the flow pattern is characterized by mode A instability. A nonlinear parabolic system is derived to describe incompressible nuclear waste-disposal contamination in porous media. A sequential implicit tirne-stepping is defined, in which the pressure and Darcy velocity of the mixture are approximated simultaneously by a mixed finite element method and the brine, radionuclid and heat are treated by a combination of a Galerkin finite element method and the method of characteristics. Optimal-order convergence in L2 is proved. Time-truncation errors of standard procedures are reduced by time stepping along the characteristics of the hyperbolic part of the brine, radionuclide and heal equalios, temporal and spatial error are lossened by direct compulation of the velocity in the mixed method, as opposed to differentiation of the pressure.  相似文献

Compressible miscible displacement of one fluid by another in porous media is modelled by a nonlinear parabolic system. A finite element procedure is introduced to approximate the concentration of one fluid and the pressure of the mixture. The concentration is treated by a Galerkin method while the pressure is treated by a parabolic mixed finite element method. The effect of dispersion, which is neglected in [1], is considered. Optimal order estimates in L2 are derived for the errors in the approximate solutions.  相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with the global existence and convergence rates of the smooth solutions for the compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations without heat conductivity, which is a hyperbolic-parabolic system. The global solutions are obtained by combining the local existence and a priori estimates if H3-norm of the initial perturbation around a constant states is small enough and its L1-norm is bounded. A priori decay-in-time estimates on the pressure, velocity and magnetic field are used to get the uniform bound of entropy. Moreover, the optimal convergence rates are also obtained.  相似文献

A modification of a finite element method of Douglas and Roberts for approximating the solution of the equations describing compressible miscible displacement in a porous medium is proposed and analyzed. The pressure is treated by a parabolic mixed finite element method using a Raviart-Thomas space of index rover a quasiregular partition, An extension of the Darcy velocity along Gauss lines is used in the evaluation of the coefficients in the Galerkin procedure for the concentration. A simple computational procedure allows the superconvergence property of the fluid velocity to be retained in our total algorithm.  相似文献

The transient behavior of a semiconductor device is described by a system of three quasilinear partial differential equations. One is elliptic in form for the electric potential and the other two are parabolic in form for the conservation of electron and hole concentrations. The electric potential equation is discretized by a mixed finite element method. The electron and hole density equations are treated by a Galerkin method that applies a variant of the method of characteristics to the transport terms. In this paper,we study some packings in a cube,namely,how to pack n points in a cube so as to maximize the minimal distance.The distance is induced by the L_1-norm which is analogous to the Hamming distance in coding theory.Two constructions with reasonable parameters are obtained,by using some results from a function field including divisor class group,narrow ray class group,and so on.We also present some asymptotic results of the two packings.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the numerical solution of the three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear tempered fractional integrodifferential equation which is subject to the initial and boundary conditions. The backward Euler (BE) method in association with the first-order convolution quadrature rule is employed to discretize this equation for time, and the Galerkin finite element method is applied for space, which is combined with an alternating direction implicit (ADI) algorithm, in order to reduce the computational cost for solving the three-dimensional nonlocal problem. Then a fully discrete BE ADI Galerkin finite element scheme can be obtained by linearizing the non-linear term. Thereafter we prove a positive-type lemma, from which the stability and convergence of the proposed numerical scheme are derived based on the energy method. Numerical experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.  相似文献

A Petrov–Galerkin method using orthogonal rational functions is proposed for the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation on the half line with initial-boundary values. The nonlinear term and the right-hand side term are treated by Chebyshev rational interpolation explicitly, and the linear terms are computed with the Galerkin method implicitly. Such an approach is applicable using fast algorithms. Numerical results are presented for problems with both exponentially and algebraically decaying solutions, respectively, highlighting the performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

We lay out a program for constructing discontinuous Petrov–Galerkin (DPG) schemes having test function spaces that are automatically computable to guarantee stability. Given a trial space, a DPG discretization using its optimal test space counterpart inherits stability from the well posedness of the undiscretized problem. Although the question of stable test space choice had attracted the attention of many previous authors, the novelty in our approach lies in the fact we identify a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) framework wherein test functions, arbitrarily close to the optimal ones, can be locally computed. It is shown that the limits of Faedo–Galerkin approximations of the Navier–Stokes equations in the three-dimensional torus are suitable weak solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations provided they are constructed using finite-dimensional spaces having a discrete commutator property and satisfying a proper inf–sup condition. Low order mixed finite element spaces appear to be acceptable for this purpose. This question was open since the notion of suitable solution was introduced. To cite this article: J.-L. Guermond, C. A mathematical formulation is presented for solving the three-dimensional nonlinear hydrodynamic equations, using the Galerkin method with an arbitrary set of basis functions.An explicit time splitting method is used to integrate these equations through time. The time splitting method is formulated in such a way that the advective terms, which are computationally expensive to evaluate, are integrated with a longer time step than the linear terms. The length of the time step used to integrate the linear terms is determined by the propagation speed of the gravity waves. The paper demonstrates that using this time splitting method an accurate and computationally economic solution of the full three-dimensional equations is possible.Numerical results are presented for the nonlinear seiche motion in a one-dimensional basin, and for the three-dimensional wind induced flow in a closed rectangular basin, using basis sets of cosine functions, Chebyshev polynomials and Gram-Schmidt orthogonalized polynomials.  相似文献

We present a priori and a posteriori estimates for the error between the Galerkin and a discretized Galerkin method for the boundary integral equation for the single layer potential on the square plate. Using piecewise constant finite elements on a rectangular mesh we study the error coming from numerical integration. The crucial point of our analysis is the estimation of some error constants, and we demonstrate that this is necessary if our methods are to be used. After the determination of these constants we are in the position to prove invertibility and quasioptimal convergence results for our numerical scheme, if the chosen numerical integration formulas are sufficiently precise. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
