The most general form of the spectral index method is presented for the analysis of multiple-layered rib and related semiconductor waveguide structures where the ribs have vertical sidewalls and are surrounded by air. The model allows for the presence of loss or gain in any layer and the generalization of the method to such complex problems is described. A detailed account is provided on how to set up the transcendental equation to solve problems for single ribs, and both symmetric and asymmetric couplers. Finally, a polarization filter in the form of an asymmetric coupler with one of its ribs capped with metal is analysed numerically to illustrate the technique for a realistic design problem.  相似文献

利用有限元法(FEM)分析了大横截面SOI(Silicon-on-insulator)脊型波导的本征模式分布,确定了脊型波导的单模条件。在保证单模传输的情况下,模拟了SOI微环谐振器中波导耦合器的耦合长度、功率耦合系数与波导尺寸和间距的关系。模拟结果表明:对于W=1μm,H=2μm的SOI脊型波导耦合器,耦合长度LC随波导间距d的增加而增大,功率耦合系数随之减小。在波导间距d0.8μm的情况下,耦合长度LC随着归一化脊高r的增加而增大,当d0.8μm时,耦合长度LC随r的增加而减小。模拟结果为SOI微环谐振器的设计和应用提供了理论依据。  相似文献

We propose a novel method that, for the first time to our knowledge, makes it possible to tailor the spectral response of an input grating coupler. This method is based on the idea of computer-generated waveguide holography. Grating couplers with different spectral responses have been designed and fabricated, and experimental results are presented that demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

给出一种较为简便的全电极脊形波导的分析方法,即采用有效折射率方法把此金属包层脊形波导化成一个二维等效平板波导,然后利用微分法得到模的有效折射率满足的方程和吸收损耗系数的解析表达式.作为一个特例,用这种方法对SiO2全电极脊形波导光传输特性如光传播常数和损耗进行了计算, 并得到一些有益的结论.  相似文献

聚合物脊形光波导是聚合物集成光电子器件的重要构成单元.利用有效折射率法计算聚合物脊形光波导的横向折射率分布及有效折射率,将各区域中的光场分布近似用分段函数表达.基于导模满足的标量波动方程,利用变分法确定变分参量,以求得准确的横向光场分布.对聚合物脊形多模光波导基模和高阶模的色散特性与横向场分布进行分析,研究了波导结构参数对色散特性的影响,计算出TM基模和高阶模的光场分布,得出了聚合物脊形光波导的单模传输条件.研究表明,该方法计算量小、精度高,对聚合物光电子器件中脊形光波导的理论分析与设计优化提供了简单高效的方法.  相似文献

提出了一种基于级数展开的三维准矢量束传播法(SE-QV-BPM)用以分析由InGaAs/InAlAs多量子阱构成的脊形光波导及定向耦合器.结果表明,刻蚀深度相同时,TM模比TE模在水平方向限制强,且TM模的模场在波导角上出现畸变;波导间距相同时,定向耦合器TM波的耦合长度大于TE波的耦合长度,对偏振态敏感.分析获得了浅/深刻脊形光波导承载的准矢量TE/TM基模、定向耦合器承载的TE/TM偶/奇模的模场分布及其有效折射率,模拟了光场在定向耦合器中的传输演变情况.另外,SE-QV-BPM导出矩阵小,计算效率高 关键词: 级数展开 准矢量束传播法 多量子阱 InGaAs/InAlAs  相似文献

波导耦合器是组成光纤传感系统和光纤通信系统光收发组件及模块的重要元器件,是实现光收发模块一体化光电集成的基础。给出了一种用光纤陀螺系统的X型四端口波导耦合器的工作原理,采用有效折射率法和BPM(Beam propagation method)法建立了耦合器的数学模型,计算并分析了耦合器尺寸在尽可能小的情况下和在满足单模传输的条件下耦合器的耦合系数、有效耦合长度、分光比以及回波损耗等参数之间的关系,并对其关键技术进行了系统的研究。仿真结果表明,所设计的波导耦合器在低损耗情况下分光比可达到50%∶50%,耦合器全长为33.5mm,输入输出波导间距为410μm,芯层截面积为6μm×6μm。  相似文献

For developing large area opto-electronic silicon-on-insulator (SOI) devices, the optical coupler is a basic key device. In this article, the authors design and simulate 1 2 2 directional waveguide coupling and Y-branch coupling optical couplers based on Unibond SOI rib waveguides. The beam propagation method (BPM) is used for light propagation analysis. The simulation results and comparisons of the two kinds of optical couplers are reported. The S-bend waveguide for attaching to the two kinds of SOI optical coupler is also analyzed by BPM. We find that the directional coupler has lower power loss, but the Y-junction coupler is more wavelength insensitive with the same device size and splitting angle. The fabrication tolerance analysis shows Y-junction coupler has better fabrication characteristics.  相似文献

A numerical design model is presented for the polymer waveguide in an electro-optic modulator. The effective index method is used to analyze the height of the core waveguide and rib waveguide, an improved Marcatili method is presented to design the rib waveguide width in order to keep the strong single mode operation and have a good match with the standard fiber. Also, the thickness of the upper cladding layer is discussed through calculating the effective index of the multilayer planar waveguide structure has been obtained by setting the optical loss due to the metallic absorption to an acceptable value (<0.1 dB/cm). As a consequence, we take the EO polymer waveguide structure of UV15:CLD/APC:UFC170 as an example, an optimized design is reported.  相似文献

为提高半导体光放大器与单模光纤耦合效率,建立了半导体放大器的锥形脊结构模型。在该模型下利用有限元数值模拟方法分析,计算了波导区折射率、锥尖宽度、条形波导尺寸、渐变折射率波导层对锥形脊结构模式扩展的影响。通过完善锥形脊结构参量的设计,获得了锥形脊结构半导体光放大器与单模光纤95%的耦合效率。  相似文献

A simple and intuitive effective index method for planar lightwave circuits containing directional couplers is proposed. The optimal cladding refractive index of the effective two-dimensional planar waveguide is found according to the coupling length of the directional coupler involved. Numerical examples indicate that this proposed effective index method gives accurate results while saving significant computation time in simulation and design of planar lightwave circuits containing directional couplers.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate an efficient coupler for compact mode conversion between a fiber and a submicrometer waveguide. The coupler is composed of high-index-contrast materials and is based on a short taper with a nanometer-sized tip. We show that the micrometer-long silicon-on-insulator-based nanotaper coupler is able to efficiently convert both the mode field profile and the effective index, with a total length as short as 40 microm. We measure an enhancement of the coupling efficiency between an optical fiber and a waveguide by 1 order of magnitude due to the coupler.  相似文献

A low-truncation-error scheme for a step-index profile is applied to analysis of a three-dimensional waveguide with the aid of the alternating-direction implicit method. The propagation constants of a single and a coupled rib waveguide are analyzed by use of the imaginary distance procedure. A fast convergence rate, which is not obtainable with the conventional second-order schemes, is realized, leading to highly accurate evaluation of the coupling length. A reduction in discretization error is also demonstrated in the beam-propagation analysis of a tilted rib-waveguide coupler.  相似文献

提出了一种新的等效折射率方法,可以将光波导的两维折射率分布精确等效成一维折射率分布。从波动方程出发,通过严格的数学推导,得到了一维等效折射率分布的表达式。该等效折射率分布由二维光波导的模场分布和折射率分布决定。在此等效过程中,几乎无任何近似,因此具有比传统等效折射率方法(EIM)更高的精度,而且不受波导截止条件的限制,并适用于任意的折射率分布结构。以SOI(silicon-on-insulator)脊型光波导为例,给出新方法的一个具体等效实施过程,比较了新方法与传统等效折射率方法计算得到的等效模场分布及等效折射率,结果显示本文方法的有更高的计算精度。最后,文中给出了一个利用这种等效方法计算弯曲波导损耗的例子。新方法可以使对三维结构(截面为任意折射率分布)的模拟简化成二维模拟。  相似文献

The film mode matching method was used to analyze the inter waveguide coupling losses in a passive asymmetric twin waveguide caused by waveguide width and refractive index variation for both resonant and adiabatic coupling at a wavelength of 1,550 nm. The reasons for power losses are shown. It is demonstrated that tapering the mode beating section of the resonant coupler can increase the fabrication tolerance of resonant coupling without increasing the coupling length.  相似文献

The effective index and the mode profile of rib waveguides are calculated using the vectorial beam-propagation method using the imaginary-distance procedure. Yee's mesh originally developed in the finite-difference time-domain method is employed to discretize a waveguide geometry. The refractive index at the interface between two different media is determined by Ampere's circuital law. The field discontinuities at the interface and singularities at the corners of the waveguide are clearly displayed.  相似文献

有机聚合物光波导近年来成为研究的热点,它为实现下一代的光电集成回路提供了另外一种选择。它所具有的一系列优点如下:(1)与传统的材料相比,有机聚合物光波导容易在各种衬底上制作,其制作成本也得以降低,并且使得与有源器件如激光器、调制器、探测器的单片集成成为可能;(2)有机聚合物波导材料的折射率可以进行调整以满足耦合损耗和弯曲损耗的折中选择;(3)此外,有机聚合物的热光系数比SiO2大一个数量级,而其导热系数却比SiO2和Si小得多。有机聚合物Y分支是强度调制器和光开关等器件的重要组成。光波导器件在和单模光纤一起使用时要求其实现单模传输,这样可以减少耦合损耗。利用变分有效折射率法计算了聚合物Y分支脊形波导的光场分布。变分有效折射率法是变分法(VM)和有效折射率法(EIM)的结合,它结合了两种方法各自的优点,能够很精确地模拟光场分布情况。利用变分有效折射率法验证了满足单模传输的脊形波导结构参数:芯层厚度为1.5μm,脊高为0.2μm,脊宽为5μm。  相似文献

In this Letter, we report on a perpendicular coupler (PC) for whispering-gallery resonators; it is a near field waveguide optimized for high coupling efficiency. The PC provides highly efficient tunneling coupling between the waveguide and microresonator without the need of a phase matching condition, and saves space for integration components. Compared to the Lorentz-shape in the transmission spectrum of the parallel coupler, the reflection spectrum of the PC shows an asymmetric Fano-shape near resonance. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the collection efficiency can be enhanced by near field scatterers, with a maximal efficiency of about 75%. Our simulations show that the PC is not sensitive to most parameters (including the refractive index of the waveguide), which makes the PC optimal for the application of whispering-gallery modes.  相似文献
