The switching characteristics of a NOLM demultiplexer are investigated by using an analytic and numerical methods. The results reveal that the switching characteristics of a NOLM demultiplexer depend on parameters such as the power coupling ratio of the coupler,the peak power of control pulses,the walk-off and the initial time delay between signal pulses and control pulses,etc. The efficiency of NOLM is dependent on the peak power of control pulses. However,the switching window profile begins to oscillate as the power exceeds a critical value and this will be detrimental to the demultiplexed signals. The signal-control pulse walk-off can broaden the switching window of NOLM,make the window profile deviate from its central position,and decrease its switching efficiency.  相似文献

波分复用/解复用器件在光纤通信中具有重要的应用。设计了一种自由空间的微闪耀光栅解复用器,通过对其衍射光场的复振幅分布的研究,得到了满足1级闪耀输出的光栅方程,实现了复合波长信号光在空间上的解复用。通过对微闪耀光栅解复用器的衍射效率和串扰进行分析后表明,微闪耀光栅解复用器具有很高的衍射效率,信号间串扰非常小,而且元件尺寸小,结构紧凑,集成度高,在光通信和光信息处理中具有一定的应用价值。  相似文献

1 × 4 and 4 × 4 wavelength demultiplexers using multimode interferometer (MMI) were successfully demonstrated in InP/InGaAsP. Optical transmission characteristics were measured for each input to output for transverse electric (TE)/transverse magnetic (TM) modes. Reduced polarization sensitivity less than 0.3 nm was achieved in 1 × 4 MMI-MZ demultiplexer with –15 dB channel-to-channel cross talk. For 4 × 4 MMI-MZ demultiplexer, the optical crosstalk was well below –16 dB in TM mode for all input to output measurements.  相似文献

We have demonstrated a silicon-on-insulator-based photonic bus with integrated splitters, a demultiplexer, attenuators, and a multiplexer for loop signal routing and multichannel optical wavelength selection. The integrated photonic bus has demonstrated a 33+ dB optical cross talk, a 32+ dB extinction ratio, and a rise time of 7.6 micros with two-stage Mach-Zehnder attenuators.  相似文献

A 16×10-Gb/s optical time-division-multiplexing (OTDM) system was demonstrated experimentally with a well-designed ultrashort pulse source based on an electro-absorption modulator (EAM) and nonlinear fiber compressor. The obtained 10-GHz stable and pedestal-free pulse train has 2-ps width, high extinction ratio, and low timing jitter. An ultrafast demultiplexer based on a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) including a commercially available highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) is employed to demultiplex data signal from 160 to 10 Gb/s. A back-to-back error-free demultiplexing experiment is carried out to verify the system performance.  相似文献

A compact and monolithic four-channel demultiplexer with 20-nm spacing was fabricated by use of a high-spatial-frequency transmission grating buried in a silica waveguide. The grating was successfully buried in a silica slab waveguide by overcladding by plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor deposition. The device's size was approximately 5.1 mm x 9.2 mm. The average insertion loss was 13 dB. The average cross talk was -15 dB for adjacent channels and -19 dB for nonadjacent channels. The polarization-dependent loss was estimated to be as low as 0.7 dB.  相似文献

提出了一种利用非线性光纤环镜的开关特性将连续波同时转化为亮孤子和暗孤子的新方法 ,即让连续波和另一波长的调制脉冲串共同耦合入光纤环镜 ,交叉相位调制使得一部分连续波被环镜透射 ,其余部分被反射 ;再让透射波和反射波分别在反常色散光纤和正常色散光纤中传输 ,自相位调制和群速度色散之间的相互作用使得透射波和反射波分别演化为亮、暗孤子。数值计算表明 ,该方法不仅可产生脉宽比调制脉冲窄、重复频率比调制脉冲高的亮孤子和暗孤子 ,而且几乎可将全部的连续波能量转化为孤子能量。  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a scheme to implement photonic multi-shape ultra-wideband(UWB) signal generation using a semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA) based nonlinear optical loop mirror(NOLM).By employing the cross phase modulation(XPM) effect,cross gain modulation(XGM),or both,multi-shape UWB waveforms are generated including monocycle,doublet,triplet,and quadruplet pulses.Both the shapes and polarities of the generated pulses are flexible to adjust,which may be very useful in UWB pulse shape modulation and pulse polarity modulation.  相似文献

We performed a numerical study of the transmission through a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) of a sequence of solitons generated at the initial stage of the supercontinuum (SC) generation. We found that the NOLM exhibits a selective transmission that critically dependents on the amplitude of the input solitons and on the NOLM loop length. The results demonstrate that by properly selecting these parameters the NOLM behaves as an optically controlled switch that allows the transmission of solitons with similar amplitude and width. The results obtained by employing this method are reasonably good and can be used to analyze the soliton formation at the initial stage of SC generation.  相似文献

分析了高速OCDM系统中基于非线性光学环境(NOLM)和非线性放大(NALM)环境的全光阈值技术。考虑了NOLM环境输入脉冲峰值功率对其阈值判决功能的影响,数值模拟了由高非线性光纤构成的NOLM和NALM环境的脉冲整形和旁瓣抑制功能,并和实验结果进行了比较。结果表明基于NOLM和NALM环境的全光阈值技术都能有效地抑制40 Gbit/s的OCDM系统中的干扰噪声,最优的NOLM环境的脉冲峰值输入功率为2 W,而NALM环境只需要mW量级的脉冲峰值输入功率即能够更好地抑制干扰噪声。  相似文献

We propose a very simple optical method to reduce the cross talk among the channels of a mode group diversity multiplexing (MGDM) link. MGDM is an intensity modulation, direct detection, multiple-input, multiple-output technique that creates independent communication channels over a multimode fiber (MMF). The cross talk among the channels is mitigated electronically. However, by properly employing a lens between the output of a graded-index MMF and the detectors, we achieve mode-selective spatial filtering (MSSF) and optically reduce the cross talk. The robustness of the link is then increased when compared with an implementation without MSSF. This allows for a larger number of channels.  相似文献

We experimentally analyze the self-starting operation of a figure-eight mode-locked fiber laser. The design is based on a power-balanced nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) with highly twisted low-birefringence fiber and a quarter-wave (QW) retarder in the loop. The NOLM operates by nonlinear polarization rotation. Self-starting mode-locking requires a careful adjustment of the NOLM low-power transmission, which is easily realized with our setup by adjusting the angle of the QW retarder. The laser is capable of generating ∼20 ps pulses at the fundamental repetition frequency of 0.78 MHz.  相似文献

The cross talk of wavelength-multiplexed quasi-infinite (written in polychromatic light) holograms is evaluated. Under plausible conditions this cross talk is negligible. The typical information capacity limit of such holograms is evaluated as 10(12) bits for a 1-cm(3) volume.  相似文献

A new two dimensional photonic crystal demultiplexer of wavelength (WDM) is designed by exploiting two Fabry–Pérot reflectors at the end of the bus waveguides. The results show that the light with different wavelengths can be successfully filtered to different ports by setting different radius of the center defect rods in the drop waveguides and high drop efficiency can be achieved by means of reflection feedbacks. The proposed filter has a cross section equal to 9.7 μm × 5.8 μm. In the designed filter, an improvement of the number of channels has been achieved. The normalized transmission spectra of this component have been studied using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The important parameters consider for this studies are radius of rods used in Fabry–Pérot reflectors, and radius of center defect rods in the drop waveguides. The demultiplexer we designed can easily separate the light with seven different wavelengths simultaneously. The scope of this paper lies on demultiplexer for communication systems around 1.55-μm wavelength.  相似文献

建立了考虑PMD在内的NOLM微波光子开关光波传输方程,给出了基于耦合非线性薛定谔方程的分步傅里叶法,三维庞加莱球理论和琼斯传输矩阵法的数值分析模型.仿真获得在光子开关中微波直接强度调制光载波的传输过程,以及在不同调制带宽下一阶和二阶PMD对光波信号和NOLM功率传输函数的影响.指出PMD造成NOLM开关性能钝化和消光比严重恶化,并引起信号信噪比下降和旁瓣泄漏.当调制带宽大于40GHz时,二阶PMD的影响比一阶PMD更加严重.最后讨论了NOLM中的PMD补偿问题.  相似文献

We theoretically and experimentally analyze the influence of the splitting ratio and the input power on the noise reduction capability of an asymmetric nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) for different input noise levels. An easy method to calculate the optimum parameters for noise reduction is also presented. The best noise reduction is found at NOLM input powers at which the nonlinear transfer function has a slope close to zero. Additionally, the splitting ratio of the NOLM has to be adapted to its input noise level to suppress amplitude fluctuations effectively. Since the noise reduction by the NOLM is due to the Kerr nonlinearity, which has a timescale below a few femtoseconds, the noise reduction is applicable to short pulses in the picosecond and femtosecond range. This makes the NOLM applicable as an optical regenerator in an optical data transmission system at high bit rates, such as 160 GBit/s.  相似文献

We report an experimental demonstration of multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser with adjustable wavelength number exploiting a power-symmetric nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). As the pump power increases from 53?mW to 410?mW, one?Cseven lasing line(s) at fixed wavelength around 1571?nm are obtained. A?theoretical model describing the NOLM and the EDF is established to investigate the effect of the pump power on the lasing characteristics. Numerical results confirm the experiment measurements and indicate that it is the intensity-dependent loss of lasing beams generated in the NOLM that leads to such phenomena.  相似文献

In this paper we show numerically that high-energy pulses can be obtained with a figure-eight Erbium-doped fiber laser with large normal net dispersion, and in which an anomalous-dispersion Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror (NOLM) is used as the effective saturable absorber. One advantage of this configuration over the ring cavity is the possibility to adjust the length of the NOLM loop to avoid overdriving the saturable absorber. The ring section of the laser includes a bandpass filter to balance the combined effects of Kerr nonlinearity and normal dispersion. Strict polarization control is performed in the NOLM as well as in the ring section of the laser. The NOLM is a power-symmetric scheme whose switching relies on nonlinear polarization rotation. This architecture allows a precise control of the low-power NOLM transmission through the orientation of a quarter-wave retarder, whose adjustment is shown to be critical for stable pulsed operation. Pulse formation appears to depend critically on the filter width. If it is wide enough, ps pulses with a large positive linear chirp are produced. After dechirping outside the laser, nearly transform-limited pulses with durations down to 240 fs, energies up to 10 nJ and peak powers beyond 40 kW are predicted.  相似文献
