This work gives the high accuracy analysis of a rectangular biharmonic element in arbitrarily high-dimensional cases. Given an n-rectangle, we construct the nonconforming finite element and show its explicit standard basis representation. We prove that, if the n-rectangular mesh is uniform, this element can achieve a second order convergence rate in energy norm when applied to biharmonic problems. Numerical examples for n = 3 are also presented.  相似文献

IntroductionLet fi be a unit sqllare domain in the ac-plane and Th = {eij}:j71 be a rectangularpartition of the domain .fi, where us m are two positive illtegers, eij ~ [xi-1 ) xi] x [yi-1, yi]are rectagular elements, and0~ xo < al < ..' < xu = 1, 0 = yo < yi < ... < ac = 1are two one-dimensional partitions on the x-axis and yials, respectively. Define hi =xi - fi-h hi = yi - ie-l, and the mesh size h = ma-c{hi, hi}::,. As usual, Th is said tobe quasi-uniform if there exists a constant c s…  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the construction of nonconforming finite elements for the discretization of fourth order elliptic partial differential operators in three spatial dimensions. The newly constructed elements include two nonconforming tetrahedral finite elements and one quasi-conforming tetrahedral element. These elements are proved to be convergent for a model biharmonic equation in three dimensions. In particular, the quasi-conforming tetrahedron element is a modified Zienkiewicz element, while the nonmodified Zienkiewicz element (a tetrahedral element of Hermite type) is proved to be divergent on a special grid.

In this article, we consider rectangular finite element methods for fourth order elliptic singular perturbation problems. We show that the non‐ C0 rectangular Morley element is uniformly convergent in the energy norm with respect to the perturbation parameter. We also propose a C0 extended high order rectangular Morley element and prove the uniform convergence. Finally, we do some numerical experiments to confirm the theoretical results. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

This paper is devoted to a newly developed weak Galerkin finite element method with the stabilization term for a linear fourth order parabolic equation, where weakly defined Laplacian operator over discontinuous functions is introduced. Priori estimates are developed and analyzed in L2 and an H2 type norm for both semi‐discrete and fully discrete schemes. And finally, numerical examples are provided to confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

The goal of this article is to apply the mortar finite element method to the numerical simulation of (electromagnetic and/or acoustic) waves propagating in an inhomogeneous support. This approach allows us to use meshes well adapted to the local physical parameters of the media without any conformity constraints. A complete mathematical study is supplied providing the expected optimal convergence rate. Numerical performances of such a technique, as well as its advantages, are also discussed. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 15: 637–656, 1999  相似文献

In a recent work, Hiptmair [Mathematisches Institut, M9404, 1994] has constructed and analyzed a family of nonconforming mixed finite elements for second-order elliptic problems. However, his analysis does not work on the lowest order elements. In this article, we show that it is possible to construct a nonconforming mixed finite element for the lowest order case. We prove the convergence and give estimates of optimal order for this finite element. Our proof is based on the use of the properties of the so-called nonconforming bubble function to control the consistency terms introduced by the nonconforming approximation. We further establish an equivalence between this mixed finite element and the nonconforming piecewise quadratic finite element of Fortin and Soulie [J. Numer. Methods Eng., 19, 505–520, 1983]. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 13: 445–457, 1997  相似文献

By using a special interpolation operator developed by Girault and Raviart (finite element methods for Navier‐Stokes Equations, Springer‐Verlag, Berlin, 1986), we prove that optimal error bounds can be obtained for a fourth‐order elliptic problem and a fourth‐order parabolic problem solved by mixed finite element methods on quasi‐uniform rectangular meshes. Optimal convergence is proved for all continuous tensor product elements of order k ≥ 1. A numerical example is provided for solving the fourth‐order elliptic problem using the bilinear element. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2006  相似文献

Numerical schemes are presented for a class of fourth order diffusion problems. These problems arise in lubrication theory for thin films of viscous fluids on surfaces. The equations being in general fourth order degenerate parabolic, additional singular terms of second order may occur to model effects of gravity, molecular interactions or thermocapillarity. Furthermore, we incorporate nonlinear surface tension terms. Finally, in the case of a thin film flow driven by a surface active agent (surfactant), the coupling of the thin film equation with an evolution equation for the surfactant density has to be considered. Discretizing the arising nonlinearities in a subtle way enables us to establish discrete counterparts of the essential integral estimates found in the continuous setting. As a consequence, the resulting algorithms are efficient, and results on convergence and nonnegativity or even strict positivity of discrete solutions follow in a natural way. The paper presents a finite element and a finite volume scheme and compares both approaches. Furthermore, an overview over qualitative properties of solutions is given, and various applications show the potential of the proposed approach.  相似文献

A mixed finite element method for approximating eigenpairs of IV order elliptic eigenvalue problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions has been given. The method can be applied to the vibration analysis of anisotropic/orthotropic/isotropic/biharmonic plates. Computer implementation procedures for this mixed method are given along with the results of numerical experiments.  相似文献

A low order characteristic‐nonconforming finite element method is proposed for solving a two‐dimensional convection‐dominated transport problem. On the basis of the distinguish property of element, that is, the consistency error can be estimated as order O(h2), one order higher than that of its interpolation error, the superclose result in broken energy norm is derived for the fully discrete scheme. In the process, we use the interpolation operator instead of the so‐called elliptic projection, which is an indispensable tool in the traditional finite element analysis. Furthermore, the global superconvergence is obtained by using the interpolated postprocessing technique. Lastly, some numerical experiments are provided to verify our theoretical analysis. A new quadratic nonconforming finite element on rectangles (or parallelograms) is introduced. The nonconforming element consists of P2 ⊕ Span{x2y,xy2} on a rectangle and eight degrees of freedom. Our element is essentially of seven degrees of freedom since the degree of freedom associated with the integration on rectangle is essentially of bubble‐function nature. Global basis functions are constructed for both Dirichlet and Neumann type of problems; accordingly the corresponding dimensions are counted. The local and global interpolation operators are defined. Error estimates of optimal order are derived in both broken energy and L2(Ω) norms for second‐order of elliptic problems. Brief numerical results are also shown to confirm the optimality of the presented quadratic nonconforming element. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2006  相似文献

In this article, we develop a nonconforming mixed finite element method to solve Biot's consolidation model. In particular, this work has been motivated to overcome nonphysical oscillations in the pressure variable, which is known as locking in poroelasticity. The method is based on a coupling of a nonconforming finite element method for the displacement of the solid phase with a standard mixed finite element method for the pressure and velocity of the fluid phase. The discrete Korn's inequality has been achieved by adding a jump term to the discrete variational formulation. We prove a rigorous proof of a‐priori error estimates for both semidiscrete and fully‐discrete schemes. Optimal error estimates have been derived. In particular, optimality in the pressure, measured in different norms, has been proved for both cases when the constrained specific storage coefficient c0 is strictly positive and when c0 is nonnegative. Numerical results illustrate the accuracy of the method and also show the effectiveness of the method to overcome the nonphysical pressure oscillations. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article we prove uniform convergence estimates for the recently developed Galerkin‐multigrid methods for nonconforming finite elements for second‐order problems with less than full elliptic regularity. These multigrid methods are defined in terms of the “Galerkin approach,” where quadratic forms over coarse grids are constructed using the quadratic form on the finest grid and iterated coarse‐to‐fine intergrid transfer operators. Previously, uniform estimates were obtained for problems with full elliptic regularity, whereas these estimates are derived with less than full elliptic regularity here. Applications to the nonconforming P1, rotated Q1, and Wilson finite elements are analyzed. The result applies to the mixed method based on finite elements that are equivalent to these nonconforming elements. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new numerical method for computing the divergence-free part of the solution of the time-harmonic Maxwell equations is studied in this paper. It is based on a discretization that uses the locally divergence-free Crouzeix-Raviart nonconforming vector fields and includes a consistency term involving the jumps of the vector fields across element boundaries. Optimal convergence rates (up to an arbitrary positive ) in both the energy norm and the norm are established on graded meshes. The theoretical results are confirmed by numerical experiments.

In this paper, we analyze the biharmonic eigenvalue problem by two nonconforming finite elements, Q and E Q. We obtain full order convergence rate of the eigenvalue approximations for the biharmonic eigenvalue problem based on asymptotic error expansions for these two nonconforming finite elements. Using the technique of eigenvalue error expansion, the technique of integral identities, and the extrapolation method, we can improve the accuracy of the eigenvalue approximations. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new nonconforming rectangle element with cubic convergence for the energy norm is introduced. The degrees of freedom (DOFs) are defined by the 12 values at the three Gauss points on each of the four edges. Due to the existence of one linear relation among the above DOFs, it turns out the DOFs are 11. The nonconforming element consists of . We count the corresponding dimension for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary value problems of second‐order elliptic problems. We also present the optimal error estimates in both broken energy and norms. Finally, numerical examples match our theoretical results very well. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 31: 691–705, 2015  相似文献

We obtain a computable a posteriori error bound on the broken energy norm of the error in the Fortin-Soulie finite element approximation of a linear second order elliptic problem with variable permeability. This bound is shown to be efficient in the sense that it also provides a lower bound for the broken energy norm of the error up to a constant and higher order data oscillation terms. The estimator is completely free of unknown constants and provides a guaranteed numerical bound on the error.

This paper is devoted to a new error analysis of nonconforming finite element methods.Compared with the classic error analysis in literature,only weak continuity,the F-E-M-Test for nonconforming finite element spaces,and basic Hm regularity for exact solutions of 2m-th order elliptic problems under consideration are assumed.The analysis is motivated by ideas from a posteriori error estimates and projection average operators.One main ingredient is a novel decomposition for some key average terms on(n.1)-dimensional faces by introducing a piecewise constant projection,which defines the generalization to more general nonconforming finite elements of the results in literature.The analysis and results herein are conjectured to apply for all nonconforming finite elements in literature.  相似文献
