PbTiO(3)-based compounds are well-known ferroelectrics that exhibit a negative thermal expansion more or less in the tetragonal phase. The mechanism of negative thermal expansion has been studied by high-temperature neutron powder diffraction performed on two representative compounds, 0.7PbTiO(3)-0.3BiFeO(3) and 0.7PbTiO(3)-0.3Bi(Zn(1/2)Ti(1/2))O(3), whose negative thermal expansion is contrarily enhanced and weakened, respectively. With increasing temperature up to the Curie temperature, the spontaneous polarization displacement of Pb/Bi (δz(Pb/Bi)) is weakened in 0.7PbTiO(3)-0.3BiFeO(3) but well-maintained in 0.7PbTiO(3)-0.3Bi(Zn(1/2)Ti(1/2))O(3). There is an apparent correlation between tetragonality (c/a) and spontaneous polarization. Direct experimental evidence indicates that the spontaneous polarization originating from Pb/Bi-O hybridization is strongly associated with the negative thermal expansion. This mechanism can be used as a guide for the future design of negative thermal expansion of phase-transforming oxides.  相似文献

We synthesized two high-pressure polymorphs PbNiO(3) with different structures, a perovskite-type and a LiNbO(3)-type structure, and investigated their formation behavior, detailed structure, structural transformation, thermal stability, valence state of cations, and magnetic and electronic properties. A perovskite-type PbNiO(3) synthesized at 800 °C under a pressure of 3 GPa crystallizes as an orthorhombic GdFeO(3)-type structure with a space group Pnma. The reaction under high pressure was monitored by an in situ energy dispersive X-ray diffraction experiment, which revealed that a perovskit-type phase was formed even at 400 °C under 3 GPa. The obtained perovskite-type phase irreversibly transforms to a LiNbO(3)-type phase with an acentric space group R3c by heat treatment at ambient pressure. The Rietveld structural refinement using synchrotron X-ray diffraction data and the XPS measurement for both the perovskite- and the LiNbO(3)-type phases reveal that both phases possess the valence state of Pb(4+)Ni(2+)O(3). Perovskite-type PbNiO(3) is the first example of the Pb(4+)M(2+)O(3) series, and the first example of the perovskite containing a tetravalent A-site cation without lone pair electrons. The magnetic susceptibility measurement shows that the perovskite- and LiNbO(3)-type PbNiO(3) undergo antiferromagnetic transition at 225 and 205 K, respectively. Both the perovskite- and LiNbO(3)-type phases exhibit semiconducting behavior.

Isothermal-isobaric ensemble Monte Carlo simulation of adamantane has been carried out with a variable shape simulation cell. The low-temperature crystalline phase and the room-temperature plastic crystalline phases have been studied employing the modified Williams potential. We show that at room temperature, the plastic crystalline phase transforms to the crystalline phase on increase in pressure. Further, we show that this is the same phase as the low-temperature ordered tetragonal phase of adamantane. The high-pressure ordered phase appears to be characterized by a slightly larger shift of the first peak toward a lower value of r in C-C, C-H, and H-H radial distribution functions as compared to the low-temperature tetragonal phase. The coexistence curve between the crystalline and plastic crystalline phase has been obtained approximately up to a pressure of 4 GPa.  相似文献

Direct observations through a microscope and in-situ Raman scattering measurements of synthesized single-crystalline Kr hydrate have been performed at pressures up to 5.2 GPa and 296 K. We have observed that the initial cubic structure II (sII) of Kr hydrate successively transforms to a cubic structure I (sI), a hexagonal structure, and an orthorhombic structure (sO) called "filled ice" at 0.45, 0.75, and 1.8 GPa, respectively. The sO phase exists at least up to 5.2 GPa. In addition to these transformations, we have also found the new phase behavior at 1.0 GPa, which is most likely caused by the change of cage occupancy of host water cages by guest Kr atoms without structural change. Raman scattering measurements for observed phases have shown that the lattice vibrational peak at around 130 cm(-1) disappears in the pressure region of sI, which enables us to distinguish the sI phase from sII and sH phases.  相似文献

We report the pressure‐induced crystallographic transitions and optical behavior of MAPbI3 (MA=methylammonium) using in situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction and laser‐excited photoluminescence spectroscopy, supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the hybrid functional B3PW91 with spin‐orbit coupling. The tetragonal polymorph determined at ambient pressure transforms to a ReO3‐type cubic phase at 0.3 GPa. Upon continuous compression to 2.7 GPa this cubic polymorph converts into a putative orthorhombic structure. Beyond 4.7 GPa it separates into crystalline and amorphous fractions. During decompression, this phase‐mixed material undergoes distinct restoration pathways depending on the peak pressure. In situ pressure photoluminescence investigation suggests a reduction in band gap with increasing pressure up to ≈0.3 GPa and then an increase in band gap up to a pressure of 2.7 GPa, in excellent agreement with our DFT calculation prediction.  相似文献

An accurate in situ electrical resistivity measurement of cuprous oxide cubes has been conducted in a diamond anvil cell at room temperature with pressures up to 25 GPa. The abnormal electrical resistivity variation found at 0.7-2.2 GPa is attributed to the phase transformation from a cubic to a tetragonal structure. Three other discontinuous changes in the electrical resistivity are observed around 8.5, 10.3, and 21.6 GPa, corresponding to the phase transitions from tetragonal to pseudocubic to hexagonal to another hexagonal phase, respectively. The first-principles calculations illustrate that the electrical resistivity decrease of the tetragonal phase is not related to band-gap shrinkage but related to a higher quantity of electrons excited from strain-induced states increasing in band gap with increasing pressure. The results indicate that the Cu(2)O cubes begin to crush at about 15 GPa and completely transform into nanocrystalline at 25 GPa.  相似文献

We have studied CaWO4 under compression using Ne as pressure-transmitting medium at room temperature by means of synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction. We have found that CaWO4 beyond 8.8 GPa transforms from its low-pressure tetragonal structure (scheelite) into a monoclinic structure (fergusonite). The high-pressure phase remains stable up to 28 GPa and the low-pressure phase is totally recovered after full decompression. The pressure dependence of the unit-cell parameters, as well as the pressure–volume equation of state, has been determined for both phases. Compared with previous studies, we found in our quasi-hydrostatic experiments a different behavior for the unit-cell parameters of the fergusonite phase and a different transition pressure. These facts suggest that deviatoric stresses influence on the high-pressure structural behavior of CaWO4 as previously found in related compounds. The reported experiments also provide information on the pressure dependence of interatomic bond distances, shedding light on the transition mechanisms.  相似文献

The effect of pressure on the crystalline structure and superconducting transition temperature (T(c)) of the 111-type Na(1-x)FeAs system using in situ high-pressure synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction and diamond anvil cell techniques is studied. A pressure-induced tetragonal to tetragonal isostructural phase transition was found. The systematic evolution of the FeAs(4) tetrahedron as a function of pressure based on Rietveld refinements on the powder X-ray diffraction patterns was obtained. The nonmonotonic T(c)(P) behavior of Na(1-x)FeAs is found to correlate with the anomalies of the distance between the anion (As) and the iron layer as well as the bond angle of As-Fe-As for the two tetragonal phases. This behavior provides the key structural information in understanding the origin of the pressure dependence of T(c) for 111-type iron pnictide superconductors. A pressure-induced structural phase transition is also observed at 20 GPa.  相似文献

The high-pressure angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction experiments on the iron-based superconductor Nd(O0.88F0.12)FeAs were performed up to 32.7 GPa at room temperature. An isostructural phase transition starts at approximately 10 GPa. When pressure is higher than 13.5 GPa, Nd(O0.88F0.12)FeAs completely transforms to a high-pressure phase, which remains the same tetragonal structure with a larger a-axis and smaller c-axis than those of the low-pressure phase. The ambient conditions isothermal bulk moduli B0 are derived as 102(2) and 245(9) GPa for the low-pressure phase and high-pressure phase, respectively. The structure analysis based on the Rietveld refinement methods shows the difference of pressure dependence of the Fe-As and Nd-(O, F) bonding distances, as well as As-Fe-As and Nd-(O, F)-Nd angles between the low-pressure phase and high-pressure phase.  相似文献

Polar ordering has been induced by pressure in solid chloroform (trichloromethane), CHCl3, and bromoform (tribromomethane), CHBr3, obtained by isochoric and isothermal freezing in a diamond anvil cell. Structures of these new polymorphs have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, CHCl3 at 0.62 and 0.75 GPa and CHBr3 at 0.20 and 0.35 GPa. Despite different centrosymmetric structures of all low-temperature phases of CHCl3 (space group Pbcn) and CHBr3 (P6(3)/m, P1, and P3), the high-pressure phases are isostructural in space group P6(3). The polar phase of CHBr3 is formed at 295 K, already at the freezing pressure of approximately 0.1 GPa, while CHCl3 transforms from the Pbcn phase into the P6(3) phase between 0.62 and 0.75 GPa. It has been demonstrated that the electrostatic contribution to halogen...halogen and H...halogen interactions in the CHCl3 and CHBr3 molecular crystals is favorable for the polar aggregation and that this effect intensifies with increasing pressure.  相似文献

Single-crystal and polycrystalline urea samples were compressed to 12 GPa in a diamond-anvil cell. Raman-scattering measurements indicate a sequence of four structural phases occurring over this pressure range at room temperature. The transitions to the high-pressure phases take place at pressures near 0.5 GPa (phase I --> II), 5.0 GPa (II --> III), and 8.0 GPa (III --> IV). Lattice parameters in phase I (tetragonal, with 2 molecules per unit cell, space group P42(1)m (D3(2d))) and phase II (orthorhombic, 4 molecules per unit cell, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) (D2(4))) were determined using angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction experiments. For phases III and IV, the combined Raman and diffraction data indicate that the unit cells are likely orthorhombic with four molecules per unit cell. Spatially resolved Raman measurements on single-crystal samples in phases III and IV reveal the coexistence of two domains with distinct spectral features. Physical origins of the spatial domains in phases III and IV are examined and discussed.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of PbVO 3, a PbTiO 3-type perovskite with a large tetragonal distortion ( c/a = 1.229), were investigated. The temperature dependence of the measured magnetization of multidomain single-crystal samples showed a broad maximum centered around 180 K, indicating a two-dimensional antiferromagnetism. muSR measurement revealed the presence of a long-range order below 43 K. The two-dimensional magnetism is due to the ordering of d xy orbitals, which is thought to also be related to the large tetragonal distortion of PbVO 3.  相似文献

In a theoretical study, benzene is compressed up to 300 GPa. The transformations found between molecular phases generally match the experimental findings in the moderate pressure regime (<20 GPa): phase I (Pbca) is found to be stable up to 4 GPa, while phase II (P4(3)2(1)2) is preferred in a narrow pressure range of 4-7 GPa. Phase III (P2(1)/c) is at lowest enthalpy at higher pressures. Above 50 GPa, phase V (P2(1) at 0 GPa; P2(1)/c at high pressure) comes into play, slightly more stable than phase III in the range of 50-80 GP, but unstable to rearrangement to a saturated, four-coordinate (at C), one-dimensional polymer. Actually, throughout the entire pressure range, crystals of graphane possess lower enthalpy than molecular benzene structures; a simple thermochemical argument is given for why this is so. In several of the benzene phases there nevertheless are substantial barriers to rearranging the molecules to a saturated polymer, especially at low temperatures. Even at room temperature these barriers should allow one to study the effect of pressure on the metastable molecular phases. Molecular phase III (P2(1)/c) is one such; it remains metastable to higher pressures up to ~200 GPa, at which point it too rearranges spontaneously to a saturated, tetracoordinate CH polymer. At 300 K the isomerization transition occurs at a lower pressure. Nevertheless, there may be a narrow region of pressure, between P = 180 and 200 GPa, where one could find a metallic, molecular benzene state. We explore several lower dimensional models for such a metallic benzene. We also probe the possible first steps in a localized, nucleated benzene polymerization by studying the dimerization of benzene molecules. Several new (C(6)H(6))(2) dimers are predicted.  相似文献

Low-temperature and high-pressure experiments were performed on the filled ice Ic structure of hydrogen hydrate at previously unexplored conditions of 5-50 GPa and 30-300 K using diamond anvil cells and a helium-refrigeration cryostat. In situ x-ray diffractometry revealed that the cubic filled ice Ic structure transformed to tetragonal at low temperatures and high pressures; the axis ratio of the tetragonal phase changed depending on the pressure and temperature. These results were consistent with theoretical predictions performed via first principle calculations. The tetragonal phase was determined to be stable above 20 GPa at 300 K, above 15 GPa at 200 K, and above 10 GPa at 100 K. Further changes in the lattice parameters were observed from about 45-50 GPa throughout the temperature region examined, which suggests the transformation to another high-pressure phase above 50 GPa. In our previous x-ray study that was performed up to 80 GPa at room temperature, a similar transformation was observed above 50 GPa. In this study, the observed change in the lattice parameters corresponds to the beginning of that transformation. The reasons for the transformation to the tetragonal structure are briefly discussed: the tetragonal structure might be induced due to changes in the vibrational or rotational modes of the hydrogen molecules under low temperature and high pressure.  相似文献

Among diatomic molecular halogen solids, high pressure structures of solid chlorine (Cl(2)) remain elusive and least studied. We here report first-principles structural search on solid Cl(2) at high pressures through our developed particle-swarm optimization algorithm. We successfully reproduced the known molecular Cmca phase (phase I) at low pressure and found that it remains stable up to a high pressure 142 GPa. At 150 GPa, our structural searches identified several energetically competitive, structurally similar, and modulated structures. Analysis of the structural results and their similarity with those in solid Br(2) and I(2), it was suggested that solid Cl(2) adopts an incommensurate modulated structure with a modulation wave close to 2∕7 in a narrow pressure range 142-157 GPa. Eventually, our simulations at >157 GPa were able to predict the molecular dissociation of solid Cl(2) into monatomic phases having body centered orthorhombic (bco) and face-centered cubic (fcc) structures, respectively. One unique monatomic structural feature of solid Cl(2) is the absence of intermediate body centered tetragonal (bct) structure during the bco → fcc transition, which however has been observed or theoretically predicted in solid Br(2) and I(2). Electron-phonon coupling calculations revealed that solid Cl(2) becomes superconductors within bco and fcc phases possessing a highest superconducting temperature of 13.03 K at 380 GPa. We further probed the molecular Cmca → incommensurate phase transition mechanism and found that the softening of the A(g) vibrational (rotational) Raman mode in the Cmca phase might be the driving force to initiate the transition.  相似文献

The chemical transformation of ammonium cyanate into urea has been of interest to many generations of scientists since its discovery by Friedrich W?hler in 1828. Although widely studied both experimentally and theoretically, several mechanistic aspects of this reaction remain to be understood. In this paper, we apply computational methods to investigate the behavior of ammonium cyanate in the solid state under high pressure, employing a theoretical approach based on the self-consistent-charges density-functional tight-binding method (SCC-DFTB). The ammonium cyanate crystal structure was relaxed under external pressure ranging from 0 to 700 GPa, leading to the identification of five structural phases. Significantly, the phase at highest pressure (above 535 GPa) corresponds to the formation of urea molecules. At ca. 25 GPa, there is a phase transition of ammonium cyanate (from tetragonal P4/nmm to monoclinic P21/m) involving a rearrangement of the ammonium cyanate molecules. This transformation is critical for the subsequent transformation to urea. The crystalline phase of urea obtained above 535 GPa also has P21/m symmetry (Z = 2). This polymorph of urea has never been reported previously. Comparisons to the known (tetragonal) polymorph of urea found experimentally at ambient pressure suggests that the new polymorph is more stable above ca. 8 GPa. Our computational studies show that the transformation of ammonium cyanate into urea is strongly exothermic (enthalpy change -170 kJ mol-1 per formula unit between 530 and 535 GPa). The proposed mechanism for this transformation involves the transfer of two hydrogen atoms of the ammonium cation toward nitrogen atoms of neighboring cyanate anions, and the remaining NH2 group creates a C-NH2 bond with the cyanate unit.  相似文献
