We propose a scheme for giant enhancement of the Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level atomic system in which spontaneously generated coherence is present. The physics mechanism of the enhancement of Kerr nonlinearity is mainly based on the presence of an extra atomic coherence induced by the spontaneously generated coherence. Numerical values obtained by solving the density matrix equations agree well with these exact analytical values.  相似文献

We consider the dynamics of a quantum coherence of two chosen spins in systems of dipolar coupled nuclear spins s=1/2 in solid. With the purpose to study this coherence we suggest two different methods. One of them uses the partial trace technique and reduced density matrix. The second method is based on the calculation the intensity of multiple quantum coherences using two-spin operator and the density matrix of the whole spin system. Results of calculations of the multiple-quantum dynamics in spin clusters of various dimensionalities are presented. It is shown that the whole density matrix method is more informative than the method based on the reduced density matrix.  相似文献

Time-resolved femtosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (fs-CARS) spectroscopy of the nitrogen molecule is used for the measurement of temperature in atmospheric-pressure, near-adiabatic, hydrogen-air diffusion flames. The initial frequency-spread dephasing rate of the Raman coherence induced by the ultrafast (∼85 fs) Stokes and pump beams is used as a measure of gas-phase temperature. This initial frequency-spread dephasing rate of the Raman coherence is completely independent of collisions and depends only on the frequency spread of the Raman transitions at different temperatures. A simple theoretical model based on the assumption of impulsive excitation of Raman coherence is used to extract temperatures from time-resolved fs-CARS experimental signals. The extracted temperatures from fs-CARS signals are in excellent agreement with the theoretical temperatures calculated from an adiabatic equilibrium calculation. The estimated absolute accuracy and the precision of the measurement technique are found to be ±40 K and ±50 K, respectively, over the temperature range 1500-2500 K.  相似文献

A suitably large coherence area is important in coherent X-ray optics, when using techniques such as interferometry or phase contrast imaging (PCI). The work done by Suzuki using a prism interferometer to measure X-ray coherence at 12.4 keV [1] is here extended to consider the use of a diffuser at the bio-medical imaging energy of 25 keV. In order to achieve a broader, more even X-ray field and eliminate speckle, a spinning piece of paper may be used as a rotating random-phase screen to diffuse the hard X-ray beam, but this will concomitantly decrease the magnitude of the complex degree of second-order coherence. We also study the effect of source size and source-to-sample distance on coherence, where imaging area and required flux must be considered. Coherence measurements at the 20XU beamline at the SPring-8 synchrotron are compared to results from wave-optical computer modelling. These show that while the diffuser will decrease the magnitude of the complex degree of coherence, further free-space propagation will lessen this effect. In the design of an experiment, the collimating slit size and use of a diffuser must therefore be balanced with distance from the source, in order to maximise coherence while maintaining the desired field of view and exposure time.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the model which consists of a degenerate Raman process involving two degenerate Rydberg energy levels of an atom interacting with a single-mode cavity field. The influence of the atomic coherence on the von Neumann entropy of the atom and the atomic inversion is investigated. It is shown that the atomic coherence decreases the amount of atom-field entanglement. It is also found that the collapse and revival times are independent of the atomic coherence, while the amplitude of the revivals is sensitive to this coherence. Moreover, the Q function and the entropy squeezing of the field are examined. Some new conclusions can be obtained.  相似文献

We investigate the propagation and interaction of elliptic incoherent spatial solitons (EISS) in strongly nonlocal kerr media with an anisotropic nonlocality based on the coherent density approach. An exact analytical solution of such EISS is obtained; the results show that such EISS can form with both isotropic and anisotropic coherence. Moreover, we find that the interaction properties of EISS are very similar to that of their coherent counterpart. Some numerical examples are presented and pertinent physics features are addressed.  相似文献

The second-order degree of coherence of pseudo-thermal light and coherence time are experimentally studied via the Hanbruy-Brown-Twiss (HBT) scheme. The system consists of two non-photon-number-resolving single- photon-counting modules (SPCMs) operating in the Geiger mode. We investigate the coherence time of the incident beam for different spot sizes on a ground glass a~d speeds of a rotating ground glass. The corresponding coherence time can be obtained from Gaussian fitting for the measured second-order degree of coherence. The results show that the coherence time of measured pseudo-thermal light depends on the spot sizes and the rotating speeds of the ground glass. The maximum value of the second-order degree of coherence is reduced as the rotating speed decreases. This result can be well explained by the model of mixed thermal and coherent fields with different ratios.  相似文献

Based on the extended Huygens-Fresnel principle, the mutual coherence function of quasi-monochromatic electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model (EGSM) beams propagating through turbulent atmosphere is derived analytically. By employing the lateral and the longitudinal coherence length of EGSM beams to characterize the spatial and the temporal coherence of the beams, the behavior of changes in the spatial and the temporal coherence of those beams is studied. The results show that with a fixed set of beam parameters and under particular atmospheric turbulence model, the lateral coherence of an EGSM beam reaches its maximum value as the beam propagates a certain distance in the turbulent atmosphere, then it begins degrading and keeps decreasing along with the further distance. However, the longitudinal coherence length of an EGSM beam keeps unchanging in this propagation. Lastly, a qualitative explanation is given to these results.  相似文献

We study the collective temporal coherence of a small-world network of coupled stochastic Hodgkin-Huxley neurons. Previous reports have shown that network coherence in response to a subthreshold periodic stimulus, thus subthreshold signal encoding, is maximal for a specific range of the fraction of randomly added shortcuts relative to all possible shortcuts, p, added to an initially locally connected network. We investigated this behavior further as a function of channel noise, stimulus frequency and coupling strength. We show that temporal coherence peaks when the frequency of the external stimulus matches that of the intrinsic subthreshold oscillations. We also find that large values of the channel noise, corresponding to small cell sizes, increases coherence for optimal values of the stimulus frequency and the topology parameter p. For smaller values of the channel noise, thus larger cell sizes, network coherence becomes insensitive to these parameters. Finally, the degree of coupling between neurons in the network modulates the sensitivity of coherence to topology, such that for stronger coupling the peak coherence is achieved with fewer added short cuts.  相似文献

We experimentally study two-photon coherence in plasmon-assisted transmission with a two-photon Mach–Zehnder (MZ) interferometer. Two collinear photons of identical or orthogonal polarization are simultaneously incident on one optically thick metal film, perforated with a periodic array of subwavelength holes. Interference fringes with two-photon de Broglie wavelength are observed, which indicates that the quantum coherence of biphoton is preserved in surface plasmon assisted transmission.  相似文献

Four-wave mixing in resonant atomic vapors based on maximum coherence induced by Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage (SCRAP) is investigated theoretically. We show the advantages of a coupling scheme involving maximum coherence and demonstrate how a large atomic coherence between a ground and an highly excited state can be prepared by SCRAP. Full analytic solutions of the field propagation problem taking into account pump field depletion are derived. The solutions are obtained with the help of an Hamiltonian approach which in the adiabatic limit permits to reduce the full set of Maxwell-Bloch equations to simple canonical equations of Hamiltonian mechanics for the field variables. It is found that the conversion efficiency reached is largely enhanced if the phase mismatch induced by linear refraction is compensated. A detailed analysis of the phase matching conditions shows, however, that the phase mismatch contribution from the Kerr effect cannot be compensated simultaneously with linear refraction contribution. Therefore, the conversion efficiency in a coupling scheme involving maximum coherence prepared by SCRAP is high, but not equal to unity. Focusing of Partially Coherent Vortex Beams by an Aperture Lens   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2       下载免费PDF全文
The focusing properties of partially coherent vortex wave fields are studied. Expressions are derived for the intensity distribution and the degree of coherence near the geometrical focus. It is found that the size of coherence vortex dark core in the focal region depends on the topological charges and normalized coherence lengths. It is found that the desired vortex dark core near the geometrical focus can be generated by choosing appropriate values of parameters. The degree of coherence possesses a pair of phase singularities regions in the geometrical focus neighbourhood.  相似文献

The topological properties of the spatial coherence function are investigated rigorously. The phase singular structures (coherence vortices) of coherence function can be naturally deduced from the topological current, which is an abstract mathematical object studied previously. We find that coherence vortices are characterized by the Hopf index and Brouwer degree in topology. The coherence flux quantization and the linking of the closed coherence vortices are also studied from the topological properties of the spatial coherence function.  相似文献

We study the effect of recycled noise, generated by the superposition of a primary Gaussian noise source with a second component of constant delay, in a parameter region below the threshold of supercritical Hopf bifurcation, by focussing on the performance of noise induced oscillations and coherence resonance. For fixed noise intensity, the amplitude and signal-to-noise ratio of the oscillation show periodic dependences on the delay time. The optimal noise intensity for the occurrence of coherence resonance also shows a periodic dependence on the delay. A theoretical analysis based on the stochastic normal form theory is presented, which qualitatively reproduces the simulation results with good agreement. This work presents a possible strategy for controlling noise induced oscillations and coherence resonance by deliberately adjusting the parameters of the recycled noise.  相似文献

A previously developed numerical model based on Maxwell-Bloch equations was modified to simulate optical coherent transient and spectral hole burning processes with noisy laser sources. Random walk phase noise was simulated using laser-phase sequences generated numerically according to the normal distribution of the phase shift. The noise model was tested by comparing the simulated spectral hole burning effect with the analytical solution. The noise effects on a few typical optical coherence transient processes were investigated using this numerical tool. Flicker and random walk frequency noises were considered in accumulation process.  相似文献

The time evolution of entanglement and coherence of two-qutrit states under an XY quantum environment which can exhibit a quantum phase transition has been analyzed. From our results, we find that the quantum phase transition can enhance the entanglement decay and coherence loss when the system is weakly coupled to the environment. Furthermore, the effect of the anisotropy parameter and the size of the environment on entanglement dynamics and coherence has also been discussed.  相似文献

We analyse the coherence properties of two particles trapped in a one-dimensional harmonic potential. This simple model allows us to derive analytic expressions for the first and second order coherence functions. We investigate their properties depending on the particle nature and the temperature of the quantum gas. We find that at zero temperature non-interacting bosons and fermions show very different correlations, while they coincide for higher temperatures. We observe atom bunching for bosons and atom anti-bunching for fermions. When the effect of s-wave scattering between bosons is taken into account, we find that the range of coherence is enhanced or reduced for repulsive or attractive potentials, respectively. Strongly repelling bosons become in some way more “fermion-like" and show anti-bunching. Their first order coherence function, however, differs from that for fermions. Understanding of coherence properties of optical fields is of basic importance both in classical optics and in quantum physics. Coherence properties of electromagnetic laser modes are only now beginning to be explored and have not yet been tested experimentally, except in the simplest cases. In this paper, we first study theoretically the coherence properties of azimuthally polarized laser modes and we clarify the distinction between coherence and correlations in stochastic electromagnetic fields, a distinction which has up to now not been fully understood and has, in fact, been a subject of controversy. Our analysis clearly illustrates the distinction between these two concepts. After elucidating theoretically the coherence properties of radially polarized laser modes, we describe an experimental study of their properties, made by the use of a recently introduced reversed-wavefront Young’s interferometer. A good agreement between theory and experiment has been found.  相似文献

The atomic-scale structure of three nanocrystalline ZrO2 samples obtained by different techniques and possessing a different length of structural coherence has been studied using high-energy X-ray diffraction and the atomic pair distribution function technique. The studies reveal that all samples show a monoclinic-like local atomic ordering. Only when the length of structural coherence exceeds 1 nm the atomic arrangement evolves into a cubic-type one. The result underlines the importance of both the local structural disorder and the length of structural coherence, i.e. the spatial extent of longer-range atomic order, in stabilizing the technologically important cubic zirconia at room temperature.  相似文献
