FORMATION OF THE CRYSTALLINE INCLUSION COMPLEX BETWEEN β-CYCLODEXTRIN AND POLYPROPYLENE

PP can be included in the cavities of cyclodextrin (CD). The crystalline inclusion complex between β-CD and lowmolecular weight polypropylene (PP) was obtained and investigated. α-CD and γ-CD did not form crystalline inclusioncomplexes with PP. The FTIR spectra, TGA, X-ray diffraction spectra were studied, ~1H-NMR spectra and ~(13)C CP/MAS NMR spectra were used to characterize the crystalline inclusion complexes.     

FUNCTIONALIZED β-CYCLODEXTRIN POLYMERS FOR THE SORPTION OF BILE SALTS

Poly(β-cyclodextrin) (PCD) resins were prepared by a crosslinking reaction of β-cyclodextrin with different amounts of epichlorhydrin. Some hydroxyl groups of these polymers were functionalized with alkyl quaternary ammonium groups. The polymers were tested for their ability to bind several bile salts (including the sodium salts of cholic acid, glycocholic acid, and chenodeoxycholic acid), individually and competitively, from phosphate buffer solutions. In all cases, the aminated PCD resin had a higher binding capacity for bile salts. The binding of chenodeoxycholate by the resins was much more effective than that of cholate and its conjugate, which indicates the importance of the host cavity size relative to that of the guest molecules. The degree of hydrophobicity of bile acids also plays a role in their binding by PCD resins. The variable temperature studies indicate that the electrostatic interactions become weaker at higher temperatures while the hydrophobic interactions are not as much affected.

THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF TETRATHIOPHENE TCNQ COMPLEX

In the title complex the planes tetra-thiophene and TCNQ are face to face mixed and packed along c axis to form one dimensional column.

THE STUDY OF MANY-BODY THEORY OF VALENCE-ELECTRON STRUCTURE OF METAL COMPLEX

An irreducible tensor method based on M. O. theory for solving many-body Schrodinger equation of valence-electron system of metal complexes has been proposed. Electronic structures of several typical octahedral transition metal complexes have been studied by means of this method. Calculated excitation energies agree with observed ones within several kcm-1.     

STUDY ON THE CHARACTERIZATION OF DISTRIBUTION OF SUBSTITUENTS ALONG THE CHAINOF CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE

Four new paranmeters, and , and have been proposed to describe the average length of the sequence of substituted anhydroglucose units and that of unsubstituted ones respectively along the CMC chain. The methods for determining those parameters have also been presented . Six CMC samples have been characterized in terms of intrinsic viscosity, degree of substitution (DS), index of substitution(SI)_ and . It has been proved experimentally that, not only can describe the sequence distribution along the CMC chain, but also can be used for calculating SI and estimating the average degree of substitution in the substituted glucose rings.

TRANSFER MECHANISM OF QUININE DRUG ACROSS THE OIL/WATER (O/W) INTERFACE

The transfer phenomena of quinine drug at the aqueous 1,2- dichloroethane (DCE)interface have been studied by the current- scanning polarography. The relationships be-tween the wave height and pH of aqueous phase, concentration of quinine as well as therate of water drop are discussed. The effect of supporting electrolyte, buffer solution andthe nature of organic solvent on the polarographic wave is studied. The transfer char-acteristics of quinine in aqueous phase and in organic phase are compared, The mono- pro-tonated and diprotonated quinines can both transfer at the interface so as to produce twopolarographic waves. The transfer process of quinine at the interface is simultaneouslycontrolled by diffusion and reestablishment of the disturbed protonated equilibrium ofquinine. A further investigation is made by chronopotentiometry. On the basis of thetheoretical analysis, the formulae of the limiting current are derived and discussed. Thetheoretical results are in agreement with the experimental ones.

Poly(styrene-co-4-vinylpyridine)-neodymium complexes(NdCl_3·PS4VPY)with variouscontents of the functional group and neodymium have been prepared and characterized.Theinfrared and X-ray photoelectron spectra indicate that uncoordinated 4-vinylpyridine(4VPY)unitsremain in the NdCl_3·PS4VPY complexes.The catalytic behaviour of NdCl_3·PS4VPY was described briefly.

THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF Ba-CROSSLINKED POLYMER ANTI-RADIATION MATERIALS

Crosslinked poly(methyl methacrylate) and polystyrene with barium dimethacrylate [Ba(MA)_2] as crosslinking agent have been synthesized. The relationship between X-ray absorbability and the content of Ba(MA)_2 in polymers was investigated. TGA and DSC results indicated that the crosslinked polymers containing barium dimethacrylate have a much better heat stability than pure PMMA or PS. The mechanical properties of the polymers containing barium are improved in comparison with the pure PMMA.
