Assume that the planar region has aC 1 boundary and is strictly convex in the sense that the tangent angle determines a point on the boundary. The lengths of invariant circles for the billiard ball map (or caustics) accumulate on ||. It follows from direct calculations and from relations between the lengths of invariant circles and the lengths of trajectories of the billiard ball map that under mild assumptions on the lengths of some geodesics the region satisfies the strong noncoincidence condition. This condition plays a role in recovering the lengths of closed geodesics from the spectrum of the Laplacian. Asymptotics for the lengths of invariant circles and an application to ellipses are discussed. In addition; some examples regarding strong non coincidence are given.  相似文献

In a previous paper asymptotic creation and annhilation operatorsa ± # have been constructed by the Kato-Mugibayashi method from the creation and annihilation operatorsa # for spin 1/2 fields with an interaction Hamiltonian density which is an evendegree polynomial in the field with ultra-violet cut-off and its derivatives. For any eigenvector of the total HamiltonianH=H 0+H I partial isometries ± have been defined so thata ± # equal ± a # *± on the ranges ± of ±. Since the existence of a groundstate ofH has been proved, the existence of at least one pair ± follows. The purpose of this paper is to show that for any ± orthogonal to the distribution of spins and momenta of the interacting Schrödinger states exp[–itH]± approaches fort the distributions of spins and momenta of the free state exp[–itH 0] if a wave-amplitude renormalization is carried out in ±. This is achieved by studying the expectation values of the operators in themaximally abelian W*-algebra generated by operators of the form a*a, in terms of whichany information about spins and momenta can be expressed.Supported in part by the National Research Council of Canada.  相似文献

An expression is derived for the anomalous part (T, ) of the soft-mode damping function due to third-order interaction between critical optical phonons and acoustic phonons. It is shown that in crystals with a large elastic viscosity the damping function of critical phonons can have stronger temperature anomalies near phase-transition points. The frequency dispersion of () is investigated; it is found that the damping is a maximum at =o for the soft-mode vibrational dynamics and at =0 for the relaxational dynamics.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 3, pp. 47–49, March, 1982.  相似文献

A conjecture about the nodal line of a second eigenfunction states that the nodal line of a second eigenfunction divides the domain by intersecting with the boundary of transversely, where is a bounded convex domain ofR 2. We prove this conjecture provided has a symmetry. Also, we prove the multiplicity of the second eigenvalue is two at most provided is a bounded convex domain ofR 2.Supported in part by NSF DMS 84-09447Home Institution: Department of Mathematics, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, CA 92093, USA  相似文献

A study is made of instability at frequencies close to the electron cyclotron frequency B and its multiples, subject to the presence of two different groups of electrons. It is shown that a mixture of hot and cold electrons ( ph 2 pc 2 ) in the region of frequencies s B, s2 can be unstable with respect to waves of the flute type (k z=0) with maximum increment max ( ph/pc). B, if there exists an interval of transversal velocities in whichF/ >0. When the curvature of the magnetic field is taken into account, even waves with B can be unstable in such a plasma. The effect of spatial inhomogeneity of the hot component on flute-type instability and on two-beam cyclotron instability is also examined. The author extends his thanks to A. B. Evolution characters of angular velocity H of a Kerr black hole (BH) and distribution characters of angular velocity p of accreting particles near the BH horizon are investigated in the case of thin and thick disks, respectively. It is shown that H evolves in a non-monotonous way in the case of thin-disk-pure-accretion, attaining a maximum at a * 0.994. This evolution character turns out to depend on the radial gradient of p near the BH horizon. It is proved that both quantities, ( dH /dt) ms and ( p /r)r=r H, vanish at the same value of a *: a *0.994, and an explanation for the non-monotonousness of H is provided.  相似文献

The stability of the three-dimensional multiple-charged soliton solutions to the nonlinear field equations is studied by Lyapunov's method. It is proved that an absolutely stable soliton solution can not exist in any field model. By imposing the subsidiary condition pQi=0 (fixation of charges) we find a sufficient condition for stability of the stationary soliton which includes the inequality k i (Q i / k <0. An illustrative example is considered.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to a study of cyclotron instability ( e) of two opposite beams of electrons from the aspect of the quasilinear effects. For this case of instability the authors evolve the diffusion equation in the velocity space for an averaged distribution function. They estimate the relaxation times , z of the spreading of the distribution function in the velocity space. At the end of the paper, they compare their results with an experiment described by M. Seidl and P. unka [Phys. Letters11 (1964), 31].  相似文献

In this paper, we study the spectrum of the Dirichlet Laplacian in a bounded (or, more generally, of finite volume) open set R n (n1) with fractal boundary of interior Minkowski dimension (n–1,n]. By means of the technique of tessellation of domains, we give the exact second term of the asymptotic expansion of the counting functionN() (i.e. the number of positive eigenvalues less than ) as +, which is of the form /2 times a negative, bounded and left-continuous function of . This explains the reason why the modified Weyl-Berry conjecture does not hold generally forn2. In addition, we also obtain explicit upper and lower bounds on the second term ofN().  相似文献

Within the framework of the conditions ; » –1 ( –1 is the mean time of momentum relaxation), the coefficient of absorption () of a weak electromagnetic wave by the free carriers of a polar semiconductor is calculated in the presence of a strong wave (of frequency ), for arbitrary values of and . Photon absorption by band electrons is due to these latter interacting with optical phonons (of frequency o). The problem is solved by using an analogous approach to the theory of the linear Kubo reaction. The results are valid in the absence of electron heating, when a strong wave only influences the scattering probability. The appearance of a photostimulated tail of absorption is predicted for < o, including the jump () for ( – o + ) 0T as well as peaks in the function () at the points s=s (s=1, 2, 3,...). The value (1) is determined by the formula for the absorption coefficient for one strong wave.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 7, pp. 105–109, July, 1981.The authors are grateful to É. We investigate the possible shapes of the surface of a rigidly rotating perfect fluid on which is matched the Kerr metric, using the Boyer (1965) surface condition. The solution, given in Figures 1 to 5, depends on three parameters, = qK, q = a/m, - (a/gwc), wherem denotes the mass of the source, a its angular momentum per unit mass, the angular velocity of rotation, andK is an integration constant appearing in Boyer's surface condition. When < 1, as in Figures 1 to 3, there are, for givenq and, two possible surfaces, of which the smaller one touches the ring-singularity at = a, z = 0. When > 1, as in Figures 4 and 5, there is only one possible surface of kidney-shaped tori, which also touch the ring singularity. In the case of a differentially rotating perfect fluid, we find a variety of possible strictly spheroidal surfaces, depending on the choice of an arbitrary integration function() of the angular velocity . If we choose() so that, at each point on the surface, is single-valued, then the resulting distribution exhibits an equatorial acceleration, similar to what is observed on the surface of the sun. This angular velocity distribution turns out to be identical with Thorne's (1971) angular velocity of cumulative dragging.  相似文献

Suppose that n is a bounded, piecewise smooth domain. We prove that the boundary values (Cauchy data) of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on with various boundary conditions are quantum ergodic if the classical billiard map on the ball bundle B*() is ergodic. Our proof is based on the classical observation that the boundary values of an interior eigenfunction , =2 is an eigenfunction of an operator Fh on the boundary of with h=–1. In the case of the Neumann boundary condition, Fh is the boundary integral operator induced by the double layer potential. We show that Fh is a semiclassical Fourier integral operator quantizing the billiard map plus a small remainder; the quantum dynamics defined by Fh can be exploited on the boundary much as the quantum dynamics generated by the wave group were exploited in the interior of domains with corners and ergodic billiards in the work of Zelditch-Zworski (1996). Novelties include the facts that Fh is not unitary and (consequently) the boundary values are equidistributed by measures which are not invariant under and which depend on the boundary conditions. Ergodicity of boundary values of eigenfunctions on domains with ergodic billiards was conjectured by S. Ozawa (1993), and was almost simultaneously proved by Gerard-Leichtnam (1993) in the case of convex C1,1 domains (with continuous tangent planes) and with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Our methods seem to be quite different. Motivation to study piecewise smooth domains comes from the fact that almost all known ergodic domains are of this form. The first author was partially supported by an Australian Research Council Fellowship. The second author was partially supported by NSF grant #DMS-0071358 and DMS-0302518.  相似文献

Starting axiomatically with a system of finite degrees of freedom whose logic c is an atomic Boolean -algebra, we prove the existence of phase space c, as a separable metric space, and a natural (weak) topology on the set of statesI (all the probability measures on c) such that c, the subspace of pure statesP, the set of atoms of c and the spaceP( c) of all the atomic measures on c, are all homeomorphic. The only physically accessible states are the points of c. This probabilistic formulation is shown to be reducible to a purely deterministic theory.  相似文献

Let be a von Neumann algebra with cyclic and separating vector , and letU(a) be a continuous unitary representation ofR with positive generator and as fixed point. If these unitaries induce for positive arguments endomorphisms of then the modular group act as dilatations on the group of unitaries. Using this it will be shown that every theory of local observables in two dimensions, which is covariant under translation only, can be imbedded into a theory of local observables covariant under the whole Poincaré group. This theory is also covariant under the CPT-transformation.  相似文献

The authors consider from a theoretical standpoint the excitation of shear-Alfven waves in a tokamak in which the plasma contains a fast ion group. It is assumed that the fast ions are formed as a result of fast neutral atoms injected into the tokamak. An expression is derived for the growth rate of the shear-Alfven oscillations, with an arbitrary relationship between the transverse wave length and the dimension of the Larmor and drift orbits. The authors analyse the part played by the finite orbit effect in the case of a longitudinal beam with a small Maxwellian velocity spread and an arbitrary ratio between the directed velocityV 0 and the Alfven velocityc A . It is demonstrated that at a finite ratioV 0/c A two physically different types of oscillations may build up, corresponding to the two signs of the ratio/k ¦ ( is the oscillation frequency,k ¦ is the longitudinal wave number). The growth rate for perturbations with /k¦<0 is greater than for /k>0.  相似文献

We present an algorithm for numerically computing an absolutely continuous invariant measure associated with a piecewiseC 2 expanding mappingS: on a bounded region R N. The method is based on the Galerkin projection principle for solving an operator equation in a Banach space. With the help of the modern notion of functions of bounded variation in multidimension, we prove the convergence of the algorithm.  相似文献

For a bounded open domain with connected complement inR 2 and piecewise smooth boundary, we consider the Dirichlet Laplacian- on and the S-matrix on the complement c . We show that the on-shell S-matricesS k have eigenvalues converging to 1 askk 0 exactly when-- has an eigenvalue at energyk 0 2 . This includes multiplicities, and proves a weak form of transparency atk=k 0. We also show that stronger forms of transparency, such asS k 0 having an eigenvalue 1 are not expected to hold in general.  相似文献

The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) has produced all-sky maps in five frequency bands between 23 and 94 GHz that can be used to study the CMB. We present an overview of the results from an analysis of maps made with one year of data. The highlights are that a) the flat CDM model fits the data remarkably well, an Einstein-deSitter model (tot = 1, =0) does not; b) from the polarization of the CMB there is evidence of the birth of the first generation of stars at z r 20; c) when the WMAP data are combined and compared with other cosmological probes a cosmic consistency emerges: multiple different lines of inquiry lead to the same results. The best-fit flat cosmological model to just the WMAP CMB data shows that the matter density is m h 2 = 0.14 –0.02 +0.02, the baryon density is b h 2 = 0.024 ± 0.001, and n s = 0.99 ± 0.04. WMAP continues to operate, and so results will improve.  相似文献

We study a model in which a closed universe with dust and quintessence matter components may look like an accelerated flat Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) universe at low redshifts. Several quantities relevant to the model are expressed in terms of observed density parameters, M and , and of the associated density parameter Q related to the quintessence scalar field Q.  相似文献
